My 7 month old puppy got a horrible infection at this kennel. They blamed us saying we brought her there like this. If that's true why would they take her? Why wouldn't they question her condition? Instead they attacked on Google Review saying we were looking for them to pat the vet bill. I want nothing from this company other then to protect other pups. They said we didn't send someone to see her. Why would we when they said she had a "small hot spot?" Honestly prevails always and that's all we needed. I've never personally taken my pet here but had 2 friends who took their dogs here while on vacation. My friend requested a private room ( suite with TV). When they picked him up he was covered in fleas and flea bites. In addition, he had Kennel cough and needed to be on 3 different antibiotics! They never even contacted them to notify them about the severe coughing. My other friends dog has a severe infection on ( and inside) her ear. She's on 2 antibiotics and has to be sedated to clean it because it's so painful. No pet should be treated like these fur babies. This is no retreat for them...it's a risk! Not saying this is the norm but....... I had a sales conference and needed to board my two labs for a couple nights. I found this place online and saw they had good reviews. Decided to have my dogs groomed since they were due for a bath. When I picked my labs up the woman behind the counter said her dog had diarrhea. Nobody said anything about my dogs being in contact or about being sick. The next morning they both had diarrhea. Had to take them to the vet it was so bad. Not only did they get sick but the grooming was poor. Both dogs ears were dirty. Sandy, the owner, called and apologized. Cost me $600.00. I will never bring my dogs there again. read more

I took my dog here for a 4 night stay, I paid for the luxury suit in hopes this would make him feel the most comfortable. I left plenty of NEW toys, his favorite blanket, and his kong with his favorite treats. When I picked him up, his toys still seemed brand new as if they were not given to him. My dog is the type to use all of his toys and even tear a few up so this was very strange. The kong also was not given to him because the treats I put in it were still there when it was given back to me. The lady at the front desk told me they had to switch his room to a lower level room because he was scratching at the door too much in his first room. I believe if they would have actually given him his toys and kong this wouldn't have been an issue. I would not recommend sending your dog here. read more

They r a ripoff quoted me a price charged me 4.00 more per nite had my dog in social play time but they never followed my instructions that he was not to be put with bull mastiffs and they had him with a bull mastiff and he got into an altercation so 3/4 of the way of a stay while we were on vacation. they put him in or he went out alone after 8 days of social out time. He went out alone now, and charged me fir 11 days of alone out time Supposedly the charges five dollars a day more. when you do that if the dog can't go out in a social setting and they charge me for 11 days instead of just four days and now nobody calls me back about that or the fact that I gave them 23 bags of food for him to be fed twice a day I came home with 16 bags so they weren't watching what was going on with him and I called on four days before I got home to find out how he was doing and they changed told me he was great. He was eating a lot getting along with other dogs no problems just a great experience they turned out that that was not the case. As like I said four days prior supposedly had an altercation so now they charge me five dollars a day for 11 days instead of 4+ charging me $40 a day instead of 37 which I was quoted And did not watch his food. Did not listen to my instructions about not letting him go out with any bull mastiffs so they actually don't pay attention. I noticed it all they had was young girls working there when we came to pick him up and even during the day so I don't know what happened all the other people they had working there that I thought were responsible and seem to care about the animals And as I said, I've still not heard back from them and it's been two days. This is the third day pertaining to the over charges so I do not recommend this facility. Plus it smelled and reeked of dog pee when you went in this time and never did before that I ever noticed so it's not being taken care of but I don't think the animals are either. read more

The people behind the desk rude and had poor customer service when I dropped my dog off when I picked my dog up the didn't wash him like I paid for and he was sick which they didn't inform me of the people I spoke with about getting my dog back was also rude and unprofessional I had also paid to have them bathed which was not done I would not recommend this place to anyone who truly wants a good experience for there dogs or anyone who wants what they paid for. Have to stop back and leave this place another review. We took another trip to the Dells and didn't hesitate to bring our dog along instead of boarding him in the confined and expensive kennels around Chicago. This place even has drop-offs on Sunday which is pretty rare! And when we called to make the appointment turns out our dog's shot expired on the day we would be dropping him off. Instead of having to try to fit him into the vet last-minute they were able to give the shot on-site when we arrived for cheaper than our vet would have given it. We will be back again. Twice here and still very pleased. read more

The woman who checked us in was not friendly. She warned us that we would be charged $25 if we did not pick up our dog by 5:30. When we picked her up at 4:30, we found out that we were charged $20 because we picked her up after NOON! The same woman who gave us the "helpful warning" started barking about how it was in the contract that they charged $5 per hour after noon (it's $25 for an entire day) and she did not address the fact that she misled us. Our dog seemed very unhappy. She wouldn't stop whimpering and she's had diarrhea for 3 days, so we now have to take her to the vet. read more

We were in the area for a softball tournament that didn't allow dogs. Therefore, we took our dog here for "daycare". The first day we picked her up, she smelled strongly of vinegar. Her back was wet, so we assumed that she had been sprayed with some vinegar-water mix, which we did not appreciate. When we dropped her off the next day, we asked the workers what the reason was for the vinegar. They said it was for "not behaving well with others" in the play area. They would spray her with it as a disciplinary action. We asked them to not do that to her, and if she misbehaved, just simply put her in an area by herself- and They said they would do so. When we picked her up later that day, she had been sprayed with the vinegar again. This time, it was not only on her back, but on her FACE. We explicitly asked them not to spray her with it, but they did so otherwise, and even more so. I understand dogs misbehave, but vinegar to the face is not the ideal way in my eyes, and I'm sure my dog and her eyes agree. We told them what to do otherwise, and they disobeyed and disrespected us. I investigated their website to see if they had a disclosure about this "vinegar tactic" but all I found was the insistence that it was a "safe and fun" environment. I'm going to have to disagree on that. read more

We've taken our dog to Pet Retreat a few times now. The price is very reasonable, and the location and hours are perfect for most needs. Unfortunately, upon picking up our dog, there isn't much information provided. Since my pup can't speak for herself, I cannot exactly ask how her experience was, but we made a long three hour drive home with the window open, in 30 degree weather, as she and her bed we brought, both reeked when we picked her up. It makes me question the cleanliness of the facility. Additionally, the minute we got her out the door, she had to potty right away, and she seemed both starving and thirsty. We had brought enough food for four meals, though she was only there for two, yet, we brought home enough food for over three. It would just be nice to have some sort of follow up when we pick up our pets. Tell us they had fun, slept well, ate and went potty. Petsmart does that. To top it off, we paid by credit card, and the slip has a room for tip. When we filled out nothing, they gave us a dirty look!! I've ever tipped for a regular service that I'm already paying for!! It's not a restaurant or hair cutting. Plus they didn't do anything special to deserve a tip. We likely won't return. read more

Very disappointed. My older female (2 1/2 years old) came home covered in scabs with no explanation from the staff. She had 3 on her face and 1 on her front leg. My youngest (5 months old) came home jittery/anxious and wouldn't let me touch his feet even though I've been trimming his nails myself every other week since he was 8 weeks old. None of the staff I spoke to very friendly at all and a couple I would describe as downright rude. I will never bring my dogs here again. read more

We had our 2 goldendoodles boarded here since our hotel did not accommodate dogs. We dropped them off late in the afternoon and took them back to set up their kennel. I liked that they are open to showing the facilities and was impressed by the cleanliness. They also had no problem with us picking them up for a little bit during the afternoons but required us to not pick up before 10 or drop off after 7. Neither times were an issue. We called the morning we were supposed to leave and asked if we could pick up a little later since we didn't take full advantage of the first day (since drop off was at 8 am.) - we thought this was a fair arrangement but they insisted on charging us $20.00 for the extra hour and a half. We picked up at 1:30 and our dogs seemed happy and healthy. Overall, I'm happy with the experience, just not the price, especially the outrageous amount for an extra 1.5 hours. read more

This place was AWFUL!!! My normal vet/groomer was booked 3 weeks out and so I was desperate. Apparently my dog missed his rabies shot and the groomer sat and huffed and puffed for 5 minutes instead of simply telling me she wasn't comfortable grooming him. Then, after 4 hours of not hearing anything I called THEM only to have the receptionist tell me that they had absolutely no record of my dog being there. WHAT?! I don't know about anyone else but I have no children and my dog is my cub...at this point they were messing with mama bear. I finally just drove out there and the rudeness continued. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Besides the point that my dog looked hideous, wen I got home his nails were bleeding everywhere meaning they were cut too short. So now I'm out even more money to get this all straightened out and never even received an apology. The customer service at this place disgusted me down to the core. If they treat humans like this, how the hell did they treat my dog?!?!?! read more

For all outward appearances this is a great place. It seems clean, the staff is appropriately attentive, etc. I must say however that I am very disappointed in their follow up. We brought our very spoiled 3 yr old Boxer to daycare beginning August 14th for 5 days. He had all the requisite vaccinations necessary to attend daycare. On Monday evening when we came to pick him up his harness was not properly put on and he was able to slide from it with little effort. Because of this, we attached his leash to his collar and continued to transport him to and from the facility by collared leash the remainder of the week. I will say- he is a puller. Tuesday evening he began to cough hoarsely. We thought it was simply an issue of irritating his throat from pulling. The attendant the following morning even asked "has he always had this cough?" To which I responded- "not until he came here". Fast forward a few days (5 to be exact) we are back home and he still has the cough. We took him to our vet who conducted swabs to test for Bordatella (kennel cough). After 5 days- the test came back positive for kennel cough, respiratory coronavirus and mycoplasma. Apparently vaccinations are not fool proof and with the right combination of viruses can penetrate the "firewall" of the vaccine. I called Yesterday morning very early to inform Pet Retreat that my dog, who is an only dog and never encounters other dogs outside of his experience here,had a highly contagious series of viruses and that they should take necessary precautions to eliminate it from their kennel. Never once did I ask for any compensation for a virus that was contracted from their facility. I was told by the employee that answered the phone that "they'd had a couple cases of kennel cough in May/June of this year" but they were working with a veterinarian there in Wisconsin and thought that they had it eradicated. She assured me that she would have someone follow up with me later that day. Guess what...never heard from anyone. And that is what irritates me more than anything. Not even a phone call to say they are sorry for our troubles or to check on how he's doing. Folks- do your homework- ask if a daycare/kennel has had communicable diseases and when and what they have done to eradicate them. I made the mistake of not asking those questions and I can assure you it will never happen again. Granted there is no guarantee that the facility will answer honestly, but at least you do your due diligence and are making them aware that you hold them accountable. read more
