The only after-hours emergency vet clinic in Spokane. They are competent, caring, and super goddamn busy. My dog tried shoving his nose up a porcupine's butt and it didn't go well. Actually, the porcupine may have enjoyed it... I'm not sure. In any case, we needed some serious quill removal. We took him in around 10pm on Saturday night and they were pretty slammed. From start to finish it took a good 3-4 hours to get him treated and released. This isn't ideal, but totally understandable given the business they're in and again, the ONLY emergency vet clinic in town. Whatchagunnado? Total cost was around $700 which seems obscene on the face of it, but my wife (in whose opinion I trust like the stone-etched tablets of Moses himself) considered it quite reasonable given their service, skill and professionalism. They gave our dumb beast total wrap-around care, medicating him for pain and removing 50+ quills. My wife is in the medical field and is a pretty harsh judge of vets. She loved the docs here and found them both highly skilled, knowledgeable and efficient. This reaffirmed my own lay impressions. Bottom line? They did a great job and the service is invaluable in emergency cases. Cost is high, but not outlandish for the service. read more

I took my dog there yesterday for symptoms of parvo. We got in and got him tested which came out positive. They refused to do anything with him until they got payment which had to be done over the phone because we had rushed there, and when we asked about hospitalization for him or at home care they wanted almost 10 grand on the spot to treat him. We ended up having to take him home with very minimal items for him, ended up calling our normal vet Deer Park Veterinary Clinic, and they only want two grand down for hospitalization. We brought our dog in for vomiting/pooping blood. We got her triaged and she started dripping blood from her bum. They told us they would get vitals and the doctor would be out to go over our treatment plan. We thought our dog was dying and they couldn't give us an update for over three hours. Not one of them told us they laid eyes on our dog and she was okay. I overheard the front desk gals saying they would gladly take the $200 upfront fee and not do anything for someone's poor animal. We watched our young dog deteriorate over weeks on their treatment helpless to do anything. We sent emails asking for feedback and received no response. I was extremely distraught and the staff did not have any compassion for my Niko or for me. He was in kidney failure and had to be brought to the only good ER in town, Animal Emergency Clinic. They let him die slowly all day. Staff up front were nice and pleasant. But I will not return to this place again. On a Sunday recently I was told my dog was dying. Bleeding internally with really large mass. Took my dog home. We went to his vet on Wed so just a few days later. My vets finding were nothing like this place. My vet doesn't understand how no labs were done, or x-rays, and wondering how they completed an ultrasound as my dog was never shaved. My vet drew blood and completed x-rays and found my dog is NOT bleeding internally, has a mass but MUCH smaller and that's not even the root of his problem. The vet hospital MISSED the real cause of my dog's problem. His pancreas is inflamed. He's now on antibiotics and we now have our dog back. This place scared us so bad the night we visited we called the kids to come say goodbye. SHAME ON YOU!!! read more

Though grateful an emergency clinic for our fur pets exists, I am extremely disappointed with the service we received. Our dog swallowed a toy and it required surgery, we took him to his usual vet. The following Sunday, he ripped opened a few of his stitches which required us to take him to the ER. Initially they told us they wanted to completely redo the surgery for $3700, we could not afford to pay for another surgery. We explained they just did the surgery the day before and it simply wasn't in our budget and asked for other options. They said if we wanted to take the risk, they would just clean what they can and restitch what tore, but they'd really prefer to do it "properly." Feeling like crap, we still went with the cheaper option - $1100. They told us to bring him back to their clinic to get the stitches removed for free in two weeks. I called them this morning to verify that it was in fact free to bring him in, instead of bringing him to his normal vet, the woman confirmed and said to go ahead and bring him in. I asked if I needed to make an appointment, she said no. Upon arrival, my husband was they were short staffed and then given a $498 invoice to pay. He figured it was a mix up, explained that we were told it was free. The woman told him it wasn't free because the same doctor that put them in wasn't working. He then called me, I called the finance department and explained there must be a mix up, I had just called at 8:42 this morning and was told AGAIN it was free. The lady told me that free wasn't an option, and asked what the ladies name was that I spoke to was - well my bad, I didn't get either names. Lesson learned. Husband paid, signed the consent forms, and was told it would be 3-4 hours so he came home (hour drive) for them to call the second he walked in the door saying he was ready for pickup. Upon going back, we had to wait 55 minutes in the waiting room after we signed the release paperwork for them to bring him out. While waiting to pickup our dog, we overheard a man coming in to get a prescription refill and was told that his dog would need an exam because the doctor that prescribed his medicine "wasnt working." Clearly it's a usual tactic they use. Highly recommend finding a different ER vet. They will price gouge you, guilt trip you and lie. read more

My dog was bleeding from the foot from the moment we walked in the door, and I let them know that before coming in, so they instantly put us in a room to "contain the blood" never once put their hands on him to look at him or see how he was doing or to see the severity of the bleeding, and literally let us sit in a waiting room for three hours before coming into tell us that "more important Patients keep coming in" so we suggest you go elsewhere... While I was there, another lady had brought her dog in who got neutered and didn't come out of anesthesia and while she was crying, she was telling me the doctor was not empathetic towards them as a five-year-old heard her say bluntly they don't have many choices and it is what it is , she could definitely use a course on Customer Service cause that was not her strength, shame on you Sarah you could do better!!! read more

I usually don't post reviews because I try not to be a Karen and I also understand that in this situation there are only two emergency pet clinics in Spokane so there aren't many options. But I am just really disappointed in how my visit went and thought I should say something. I have a gerbil who was around 4 years old and I thought he would be passing soon since that is a long life for a gerbil. But in the past couple of days he got pretty sick and looked to be in pain so I didn't want him to be suffering anymore. I called to ask about euthanasia or treatment for him and they said that their urgent care only takes "exotic pets" (which I guess a gerbil is categorized as??) and so they couldn't have him in for an exam but they had a doctor who could put him down and the straight cost would be $170 for euthanizing. I decided that I would take him in that night since he looked like he wouldn't make it til morning and was in pain. When I got there the lady looked confused about my request and so I told her about my phone conversation and she put me in a room. I filled out the paperwork and waited for about 20 minutes before a man came in. I assumed he was the doctor and started telling him about the symptoms Gobi had but I realized soon that this man was just a "comfort person" for people putting their pets down. Which was fine but also kind of awkward since I don't like crying in front of people. He left after a bit. So I waited some more and then a nurse came in (I also thought it might be the doctor but was unfortunately not) and she talked to me for a minute about symptoms and that this was probably the right decision and then said she would take him back. I said goodbye, cried and then she left (I assumed when I saw him next he would be gone.) About another 20 minutes later she came back with him and he was still alive (still suffering) and she said the (one) doctor in the back was busy on a surgery and so she thought he should stay with mewhile we waited. She said it shouldn't be too long and then left. It was about 50 minutes of me holding my dying pet before the man (not the doctor) came in to check again on me. I simply asked about the timeline of things (I heard another nurse telling people in the waiting room that it was going to be a while to be seen) Finally the nurse returned and said that now she would take him (I couldn't go with him because again "exotic pet" whatever the hell that means) so they leave and I'm crying and waiting for a while and then some front person comes in to talk to me about allowing the euthanasia and payment. (So my gerbil was still waiting and in pain) He said that the exam fee would be $150 and the euthanizing would be $170... I was confused because no one had looked at or examined him or even picked him up and there was no "exotic pet" doctor in? He said he would come back after checking with the doctor. He came back and said that the total was $320 and I was like "but no one even looked at him!? The nurse just took him back to be put down!" He was very kind and took the charge off and said that the doctor had just said to keep the exam fee on there?! I was fuming because if I hadn't said anything they would have charged me $320 to put down my 4 y old gerbil. After another 20 minutes of waiting (total time now around 2.25 hours) they brought him back to me. In his cage in a little bag. All in all it was a pretty bad experience having to wait so long when my pet was already suffering and with not much compassion and then to try and charge me almost double without even checking if that was correct! I would go somewhere else honestly and all Therese reviews say the same how they just want your money. Big bummer and at least my poor gobi is now in a better place :( read more

Petty thieves. I have color-coordinated locking carabiners for each of my dogs' leashes. When my dog was taken in back for some imaging and bloodwork, someone removed the carabiner from the leash. I didn't notice until I got home. I called and asked about it and yes, they have my carabiner. But they're refusing to return it unless I spend the gas driving 50 miles round trip to retrieve it. They will not mail it and also threatened me with a deadline of 14 days. After which I guess they'll just add it to their collection -- the lady on the phone mentioned having so many carabiners in back she didn't know which was mine. The gas to go get it would cost more than the carabiner itself, so I guess the thieves win this round. I shouldn't have to pay a damn cent to get my property back (or replaced) which they STOLE. read more

would not recommend. My cat had a sudden seizure and we rushed here at like 9pm, they immediately took him back upon arrival as he was in critical condition. I was required to pay an $800 deposit before they would do ANYTHING to help him. after they made sure the payment went through the receptionist called the vet/tech and told them that the deposit was paid and they could help him. That felt absolutely wild/unethical to me, sure it's a business but my baby was in a very unstable condition and it took upwards of 5 minutes to get thru the freaking paperwork and payments, I'm not vet, but i feel like every second/minute counts the receptionists had no care when talking to us about him and were very dismissive. We went into the room to talk with the vet and after a ten minute spiel of...honestly not sure what, but it took TEN MINUTES for the vet to tell me he was stable. she also kept comparing my cat's situation to a dog's, "if he was a dog he would have a better prognosis" ....ummm OKAY?!? he's not?!? idc about how dogs fare in this situation while I'm freaking out about my CAT. completely inappropriate I also wasn't given any instructions on discharge, he went home with steroids and a pill. Yes, I know how to administer the medications to my cat, but to not mention how to or offer instructions? that's absurd My cat was able to go home that night after six hours of...?? not sure, no info on that. he was unable to stand or support his head at time of discharge, no mention of how to care for him or what to expect. Had to call later to check because he wasn't improving, unhelpful again. he did ultimately pass 24 hours later when i took him into Garland Animal Clinic (HIGHLY recommend there, they took the kindest care with my baby and my family) The vet grossly overestimated how long he would live, noting a month or so. I got 24 hours. also when discussing treatment options the vet informed us it would be very expensive and we would have to travel a lot for the care....Garland Clinic does everything recommended. For sure felt like she was trying to make that option sound bad SURE she can't know the exact length, but a month is much different than one day. We went to the vet ER and I waited for 4 hours in the lobby waiting for my cat get to an x-ray to see if there was anything in his intestines. I brought my dog in at 2:00 am on January 3rd. She was suffering from an intestinal infection that we had no idea about. We noticed a problem earlier Thursday the 2nd and promptly made an appointment with our regular vet for the first appointment in the morning on January 3rd. As the night progressed the diarrhea became worse and turned bloody. By that time our AWESOME vet clinic was closed. We watched her in shifts and things suddenly went from bad to worse. We ended up rushing her to this emergency pet hospital at 2:00 am FRIDAY MORNING JANUARY 3rd. They REFUSED to do anything until they had an $800 deposit. Thank GOD WE HAD IT or they would have let her die! Their financial assistance options are a joke. We are hard workers but because of unfortunate circumstances have lost part of our income over the past year. But our baby is our priority! The desk clerk was helpful, but the veterinarian on staff was the most unsympathetic person I have ever come in contact with! This clinic wants money . Your pet is not important. I have access to 401 k money, but not at 2:00 am in the morning. She is skilled, she stabilized my puppy, but her empathy and compassion need a LOT of work. What pisses me off the most is that this review will NOT be seen. The one I wrote last night disappeared! I will forever be grateful that my dog survived, but investigate more compassionate clinics that have a better way to create a payment plan. I felt compelled to post this review after recently hearing the situation a friend of mine went thru at PEC. I personally have 2 previous experiences with PEC, and I am sorry I kept quiet about those experiences. The basis of my experiences at PEC boiled down to what I felt to be drastic overcharges for services, and being taken advantage of during a time when I was vulnerable with 2 different cats that had emergencies. It was absolutely disgraceful what I went thru, and to hear these same practices are still occurring within PEC makes me literally sick. My friend ended up with an $18,000 bill at the end of her few day incident, and there was actually no surgery involved, just treatments that were done primarily w/o her knowledge, as she was making her way back to the U.S. from being out of the country for a few days. To hear the entirety of the story from my friend not only broke my heart, but made me furious, because in the end, the vets at PEC never did come up with a diagnosis for her pet. It would be my recommendation for anyone needing after hours or emergency pet services, to do your due diligence before an emergency occurs and find another option for a pet emergency. Finally there are more pet ER options, so there are places you can investigate before your need may arise. All I can say to PEC is - shame on you! read more

I am inclined to give a 1 star rating, but I do want to give credit to the doctor for showing kindness and compassion and taking the time to answer our questions. That said, we were there overnight (8-9 hours total) and they really did nothing to actually help our cat. We weren't allowed to be with him when he was being examined, creating more stress for him and for us, at a time that was already difficult. We were also given bad information. We were told that our cat was blind and that his prognosis (for presumed heart disease) "was not good" and that we would be "just waiting for the other shoe to drop." We felt that we were being strongly steered towards putting him to sleep. We wanted to get more information before making this decision and took him home and then to our vet a day and a half later. Our vet agreed that heart disease was possible but said it did not seem likely. He also said that our cat was not blind and proved this by dropping cotton balls in front of him which he easily tracked. This all happened over a year ago and as of now, the cat is still doing fine. He plays and cuddles and jumps and climbs. He lets our other cat know who is boss. He enjoys his treats and his catnip toys. He had a medical incident, which we still don't have an explanation for, but has gone on to have a year and counting of happy cat life. We are SO thankful we did not put him to sleep. One other thing that we disliked about this practice was that they kept wanting to charge us throughout the process (not just at the end) and if you pay with a credit card there is a charge for that each time. That seems unnecessarily greedy when they are already charging *at least* hundreds. We've had one additional cat emergency since this event and went to the pet emergency in Coeur d'Alene (on Kathleen). They were wonderful and also let us go into the exam room with the cat, which is a big deal to us. We would strongly recommend going there instead. read more

This was the most worst experience I've ever had in a pet emergency clinic ever every single time I come here there's something wrong with this place. The staff are absolutely rude. They don't do their job correctly can't diagnose a dog or a cat correctly as previously before (About 2 years ago) I bring my cat that was dying of a bladder infection and they let her die two hours within taking her out of the waiting room, then charged me $700 in total for that. And then in the middle of the night, I took my dog to the clinic and she was dying and they tried doing CPR on her after they already told me she was dead charged me 350 for the CPR on my dead dog, also charged me another 150 for exam fees, they didn't even care or take at the time enough to put my name correctly in the system to match up with my pet. And then they also charged me another fee for having to wrap up an arm that was disabled that she's had since she was born so told him my visit was about $1000 for no work done. It is hard enough to make the decision at the end of a pets life. We took our pet in only for them to tell us the reason wasn't good enough. That there are treatments which could work. Despite the cost the decision is a personal one and one that we didn't enter into lightly. It isn't their decision to tell us how the end will happen. They turned us away as we already cried the entire trip there and while we waited. The vet was not compassionate for the impact of the dogs condition or the fact that the quality of life wasn't going to be what it was. Our little 10 month old bully has surgery yesterday to remove saccuals and nars from an elongated soft pallet. The surgeon said there was a small mass at the back of the throat so she removed some of to be checked since she thought it was scar tissue. Our lil fur baby was having a hard time breathing after surgery so she inserted the tub back in and told us she would be transferring her to this pet emergency clinic to be monitored for the inflammation and to better see what the mass was. Needless to say when we got here they were rude when we arrived. The dr said she had a mass they were going to look at. Then came back and said we could only do a temporary trach on her and they would have to keep her for 7 days there . That they would need to do a permanent trach and gave us no options .. not costs or explain what was wrong. They hadn't even had her enough time to do tests or see what they could do for us. The dr came in a drew a circle with 2 lines and said that is the larynx it's paralyzed and needs a trach and to pull part of it up by the ear. Then came back in and drew us another picture with 2 lines a circle and squiggles. When do doctors drawn pictures with markers instead of bringing imaging in to show us that we were charged for. Still no answer or solutions just pushing for a trach and massive money. They didn't offer to monitor our dog or see when the inflammation was to go down, they did nothing! The worst part is she knew we don't live in Spokane and drove 5 hours here for the surgery and said we couldn't take our dog with us and would have to leave her there and said no options but to euthanize her. Now the worst part is she had imaging before surgery and at the surgery center no paralyzing larynx or mass. The larynx also worked before and after surgery before she arrived at this pet emergency to blatant lie to us!!! I would never recommend this place they will kill your animals not save them or protect them and only care to charge the highest amount they can get trying to keep her 7 days and these crazy surgeries for no reason! The sad part is money is no option for us when it comes to our dog. So now we had to drive home without our baby because they euthanized her. read more

Communication. Care. Critical sense of urgency. These three things are essential for running an effective operation in emergency services. These essential attributes are severely lacking at this place. - They do not communicate with you - the customer. (Didn't loop me in with updates about my dog's status. Kept me waiting for 4 and a half hours. Even when I asked they didn't have any idea). - They do not communicate with each other (they mixed up my payment method). - They do not care to explain professional opinions on how your dog was injured. They do not care to engage with you the customer, they do not care to help you feel heard. - They work as though nothing is urgent. (Taking frequent smoke breaks. Cross-talking about their newest neck tats and nose rings). Bottom line: professionalism and excellence are values that this clinic do NOT have. Poorly run, and disrespectful business. Do not come here if you expect to be treated with respect, concern, or with any sense of expediency. My wife waited in their lobby for 3 hours and was never seen by a vet, even after being lied to over and over that our animal would be seen "soon". A simple script and we could have been out of the door in 15 minutes. But instead our time, money and patience were completely wasted. After calling them with these same concerns I was patronized and disrespected on the phone as well. Drive to the hospital in the valley, it's worth it. read more
