I was quoted $450 for a surgical procedure on my cat weeks before going into my pre-operative appointment today. I was required to pay over the phone a $65 non-refundable fee. No issues until I walk in and there are two ladies at the desk that let me stand there forever without acknowledging me or saying someone will be right with you. I let it go and finally a nice lady named Tiffany helped me. I waited 20 min after being admitted to the exam room. Even this, although irritating I was fine with letting go. The doctor was nice and explained the procedure asking me after to wait for the vet tech. Another 15-20 min go by me sitting in the exam room and I decide to check with Tiffany at front desk to find out what I need before I can go. My cat's surgical appt. was scheduled for two days later. She says he is likely putting in the codes for my bill. He eventually comes back with an invoice that has two additional charges to the $450 (which they didn't credit me my $65 deposit) for. One charge is $140 extra because my cat is over 10 pounds and requires additional meds and another is a boarding fee of $65 because they scheduled me for Thursday surgery and have to keep him for two days for observation/meds, and aren't open for weekend. When I inquire about why I show additional charges of appx. $200 when I was quoted $450, Vet Tech Dexter says our receptionists don't really know the prices. I said well that shouldn't be my issue. I was quoted $450, not $650ish and thats what I am prepared to pay. Then he says he will get the office manager. The gal who wouldn't acknowledge me when I came into the office at the beginning got snarky and said that is just the starting rate for that surgery... and I said okay well I feel that should have been communicated to me over the phone. She says Im just letting you know. Well I reply, Im just letting you know I don't think that is right to charge me extra when it wasn't previously communicated. Then Tiffany says the $65 is for today's exam. I said but I already paid that so Im confused. Dexter came back and said office manager would be out after she okayed it with the doctor...that I wouldn't be getting charged the extra fees since I was quoted $450 because that wouldn't be fair to me. Then the office manager sits me down in front of other customers and explains the $65 is a boarding fee and that we can move the appointment out to a day I work and can't bring the cat in, which I was going to work with her on... but that she wouldn't be waving my $140 fee because of a miscommunication. I said okay you need to refund me my $65 deposit for today's visit because you only had this has a wellness check for the surgery you lied to me about the price on. She says she wasn't going to do that because the doctor's time is worth something. What about my time they just wasted and lied to me about. Not to mention they never credited me $65 off the $450 bill for my down payment. I told her I would be leaving now and she said thats fine. I told her I would be leaving a bad review about their poor business practices and she said that was fine too. When I called Prairie Vet in Rathdrum they said they dont charge a boarding fee, as it is complimentary, no deposit required, and the surgery is a flat fee of $532. They dont charge extra for weight. Guess who I took my business to? I have an appointment with Prairie because I told them about my experience with Rathdrum Animal Clinic and how they lied and tried to up charge me, lacked transparency and poor customer service. Save yourself the headache and skip this place altogether. Go to Prairie Vet in Rathdrum. read more

Worst customer service experience in my life. Ladies at the front desk have condescending attitudes and helping patients is not a priority at all. Told me to schedule an appointment for next week. I tried and they said no all booked up call back on Tuesday and try to get a urgent care spot. Huh? That's why I'm calling...you said to schedule and now sorry we can't schedule you. When I asked for a supervisor was told to call back in a week, she is out of the office. Heard the other lady snickering....completely unprofessional. Go somewhere else. Front desk staff and decor you'll appreciate Along with a pretty decent value of a rate Smiling Dr. Gable Thorough and able But their popularity with pet owners means you'll have to wait Black and white portrait pictures adorn the white walls to the high ceiling and one might first think they've entered a lodge or inn as the scent is closer to spa than animal. Diplomas dot the wall spaces between the framed faces of people with their pets and look down upon a pair of desk staff. Ample seating to separate some confused canines is immediately outside one of four exam rooms as indicated by the number of painted paw prints on the wood doors. Audrey our vet tech was quite friendly and explaining the impending kitty package and even apologizing openly when getting one minor thing out of order, a gesture which gives this consumer a greater degree of confidence. Dr. Gable recalled the pattern of disease on our kitten's face so to confirm what we thought was an impressive response to her earlier prescribed therapy. In addition, her precision with detail implored us to return without an appointment for a quick weigh-in of our feline friend to assure the accuracy of her recommended medication dosage. Although the package price was found fair, the touch of checkout chaos had us waiting longer to pay the bill than to get seen. Perhaps a victim of their own success, this place is teeming by ten on a Monday so it's no longer a secret that the Rathdrum Animal Clinic will be one doctor's visit you and your companion won't regret. read more

Unfortunately, this is not a good review. I've been bringing my dogs (4 dogs and 1 cat) to this clinic over a span of 18 years, and until yesterday was pretty satisfied, even with the change of ownership a few years back. However, I was 20 minutes late yesterday, my fault, but when I called from the parking lot and asked if I could be squeezed in, Kelly replied with a very curt "no, we have a 5 minute rule now". I then asked how soon could they get me in, it was just an annual check up and vaccinations. Kelly, said "second week of March". I again asked, "wow, you're out that far for just a check up? No way to get me in?". She said "no"...no apology, just a flat "no". I half-jokingly said "well, maybe I need to find another vet" and she very curtly said "just let me know where to forward your records". I was shocked, no attempt to try to assist me at all. Not ONE BIT of kindness in her voice. I went into the office in person and spoke her and she very happily printed out my records. Then I asked to speak to the manager, and after a 5 minute wait, she came and took me to an exam room to talk in private. I explained I'd been coming 18 years, my husband just died last month, and yes, totally my fault for being late. However, I have NEVER in 18 years had them call me in for an exam ON TIME and we've always arrived at least 10 minutes early (except for this time yesterday) I explained my mind was in a fog still over the death of my husband....we have ALWAYS waited a MINIMUM of 15 minutes, without complaint. I told her I don't understand how, just 20 minutes late, my spot is simply "gone". She offered nothing to me, just their "5 minute rule". I asked her how she could so cavalierly allow the front desk to just be fine with letting a long time customer go. I suggested she have some re-training done with Kelly before she loses more clients. She really offered no apologies or explanations, she was almost as bad as Kelly. I told her they "must be doing so well financially that they can treat longstanding (18 years) customers this way". Again, not much of a response, I think she may have muttered an "I'm sorry" once. I did not raise my voice, but was firm in my feelings. 18 years, but it should not matter if I was only a 1 year customer! The doctors need to know how their front desk treats people, 5 minute rule???!! If they are 5 minutes late seeing you do you get a discount? Heck no! read more

Our cat wasn't feeling well, and I called the clinic. No appointments available, but they said we could drop our kitty off and they would evaluate him during the day. Dr. Gable called to inquire if we would be okay with tests before they were performed and took the time to explain the tests and why she was recommending them. When we went to pick up our kitty, Dr. Gable answered all our questions. Staff are all very professional and friendly, and we were very comfortable leaving our kitty in their care. My mother took her 5 year old schnauzer to this place to have a regular dental cleaning.....she was quoted $200 for the cleaning and $25 for any extractions. When my mom came to pick up her dog, they had pulled 5 teeth and said the dog needed 11 more pulled! Talk about taking advantage of my elderly mother and her dog! She was then given a bill for $700! When she requested to have someone go over the ridiculously high bill, she was told "we don't have time for that"! These people are horrible! Never take your animals here! read more

The staff and vets have taken real good care of my dogs. They have gone thru the trouble of calling other institutions to get more info and even recommend me to specialists. They study up on your pet, and research any treatment that may be available, even if not offered by them. I can not say enough good things about them. I even feel they have spent more time with me and my dogs or researching treatments than I have paid them to do. read more

Ridiculous wait times! The last two appointments I waited nearly a hour to see the veterinarian, and that's with an appointment! The ladies at the front desk tried NOT to make eye contact with me as I waited and waited and waited. When I finally got called into a room, the technician apologized for the wait time and told me there had been a mix up on their end, and that it would be only a few minutes more until my dog would be seen by the vet. After waiting another 15 minutes in the room, I took my dog and left. It was not a busy time at all. In fact, no one was in the lobby. Perhaps everyone decided to go to lunch together? Apparently they don't respect my time and my dog, as he became stressed waiting, too. We will NOT be returning to this clinic. read more

This post isn't really for me but for my mom... A couple of weeks ago my moms two Great Danes got into a terrible dominance fight. It was a scary and horrible thing to witness. We couldn't separate them until animal control arrived and took the oldest one to Kootenai Humane Society. While he was there we took the youngest Dane over to Prairie Animal Hospital as it was an emergency and they were located about two blocks from us. The service we received there was absolutely terrible! We waited for 45min while our dog was bleeding out, and then they handed us a nearly $1000 bill to get him cleaned and stitched up...We get it, he's a big dog. But that was beyond what we could afford. So we gave Rathdrum a call and they were more than happy to help us with a more affordable approach. As they were treating Jax (the youngest) we unfortunately had to bring the oldest Dane over to be euthanized or else he would have to sit at the pound for a few days for them to do it there. It was an awful experience, but we were so lucky to have such compassionate and professional doctors at Rathdrum Animal Clinic there to help in anyway they could. So thank you RAC for helping out. gave them one star because I could not give them zero. something happened in the last few years where money got more important than taking care of animals. I have worked same job for 8 years but work paycheck to paycheck but I pay my bills. Had a 14 year old cat that was dying this weekend. Something burst and his eye was red and he could not walk by Saturday. I called them and explained to them the situation. That he was suffering and in pain and asked them if they could put them to sleep and hold the check until Wednesday when I got paid. There answer was No. Max died in a hole in the ground and a bullet to his head to end his suffering and pain. Thank you for your heartless money hungry uncaring selfish practice that made the person that loved this cat hold him, not in a calming go to sleep manner but in a hold down instant bullet to the brain death.
