I brought my two dogs to pet de lite for a full groom and will never use them again. I dropped my pups off and several hours later I was called for pickup. At the front desk, the woman told me that one of my dogs had sustained a small cut on her hind leg because she sat down while the groomer was clipping her. The woman said she wasn't charging me for that groom since it was my first time at their business and my dog had gotten a small cut. I thanked them but wanted to see the cut. When they brought Cali out, she had a cut the size of a quarter on the upper/inner part of her hind leg. I said I would have to take her to the vet and asked if they're going to cover the vet bill. I was discouraged from taking her to the vet and was told to put Neosporin on it. I said I was going to take her to the vet because it was a large cut and again the woman minimized the situation saying it was a small cut. At the end she said if I would take her to the vet, they would deduct the cost of the grooming ($78) and reimburse the rest. I told them that they were correct not to charge me for a grooming where they injured my dog, but now if I took her to the vet due to an injury they caused, I was now responsible for the cost of the groom? I told them I didn't agree and I would contact them about the bill. I took my dog to the vet and they had to shave around it, clean the wound, and ended up stapling the cut. My dog was prescribed antibiotics as well. I forwarded the bill to pet de lite where this time the manager/owner wrote back apologizing for the experience but again stating they would deduct the cost of the grooming from the bill and reimburse the rest. She said the cut was due to matting my dog had, and there's not much vets can due in this instance. Then she offered me 20% off my next groom. I told her that wasn't the story I was given as to why Cali was cut and Cali was not matted when I brought her to their business. I told her that she must have insurance for this sort of thing so if she wasn't willing to reimburse me the entire vet bill, I'd prefer to go through her business insurance. Wouldn't you know, those were the magic words that finally compelled her to reimburse me for the full vet amount. She said it wasn't worth it to go through insurance. read more

Pet de Lite caused my 8 month old Shih Tzu to have PTSD. This was my first experience with them and I'll never go back! On July 22, 2023 I took her in to be groomed. I asked for the "puppy cut" , a very common cut for Shih Tzu's. Upon returning 4 hrs later to pick her up I was speechless when she came out! She had been scalped! Not only was her hair way to short I discovered later in the day they had scalped her bottom and vulva area. This caused Lilly, my puppy server pain for about a week plus. Her vulva was severely swollen, She couldn't sit, licked herself nonstop, refused to walk, play or eat. I could barley touch her. To this day I'm still working with Lilly to regain her trust. Moving forward getting her groomed isn't going to be easy. I know she's was traumatized, she has anxiety when I leave and has bouts of depression. She hasn't been the same since took her here. They are completely unaware of how to deal with a dog with a curly coat. This was our first and last time there. I've had my Mini Aussie, Arlo, for about almost six months now, and have been taking him randomly to different large chain groomers once a month. The last we decided on was the PetCo in Dale City, and only because they did a sugar cookie shampoo. But, for over $50 for a 11lb dog, I decided to look around. Now, I am not saying Pet De Lite was much cheaper (it was under $50, tho), but it was MUCH BETTER!!!!!!!! Arlo used to walk out of PetCo SHAKING, and whimpering. And the whole time, their groomers would say he was well behaved. Arlo walked out of the back room at Pet De Lite just as wiggly, happy and playful as ever! And everyone there seemed to love him! When I initially walked in, no one was in the front office area, and I looked at the walls for a minute before I decided to stick my head back through the door to the grooming area, and I was completely surprised -- it was spa -like!! With water features, dog art work, and very soothing colors. It was incredibly clean, and smelled CLEAN - not antiseptic. All and all, it was a GREAT experience, for my wallet, and most importantly, for Arlo. I've never seen him so fluffy, cute, and happy. So we've been there twice, the second time being the last ever. Where do I start? Good news first: the hair cut the first time was not bad. The second time around they just did whatever the groomer arbitrarily decided to do. We have a cocker spaniel and his fur was quite long, and at some parts tangled (matted) -not extremely bad, but let's just say he needed some grooming, which is why we took him to, well, the groomer. I guess like previous reviewers indicated, communication is a little challenging with the staff. They did tell us that they would shave his fur, because it was too long (what? imagine going to the hair salon for an overdue haircut and them telling you that they would shave your head either you like it or not), to which we responded, please don't shave to the skin, because it is still very cold outside and plus he looks bizarre once shaved. But they insisted that, nope, they needed to shave him. OK. So we go to pick him up and they are like "it's gonna be $10 more" (original price already high enough at $60, if you ask me) because his hair was so long and it is "very dangerous to groom them." And why weren't we told of this earlier on? Again, I DON'T get this! This is your job; this is your business...Would you rather me bring my dog already groomed for you? And how does one determine in an objective way what is considered to be "too much hair?" You certainly did not determine this by looking at him, as you did not advance the "extra fee" proposition when we brought him in! So paid $70 for a shave down we did, although I think we should have paid a little extra for the wonderful yellow Gold's Gym bandana (classy) you tied around his neck.But coming back, we will not do again. Oh, and another interesting observation. Our dog was there for about 7-8 hours. Once he gets out he immediately squats and takes the biggest poop. Guessing they keep the pets in the tiny cage for the whole time, without consideration for their pet needs, as other groomers we have taken him before have. I dropped my son (a pomeranian) osito off. And i didnt know i was going to get a tour. I felt special. And then they opened a cage. And i explained to the lady my baby hates cages. So then she showed me the playpen. I was sooooo happy when i saw that!!! Osito didn't cry at all when i left. And that has never happened before. Sucks that im leaving lorton. Customer service is not this difficult, so it really blows my mind when you as a business essentially are doing nothing more than just inviting customers in. Having just moved to the Fort Belvoir area, I priced several groomers around and they were all pretty pricey. Pet De Lite was the cheapest and I waited until I had used them a few times before I reviewed them. One of my dogs doesn't need grooming but gets his nails clipped for $10. They also trim the hair around his paws and under his belly with the clippers, spritz him with a nice smelling spray, and give him his cute little bandana. Just $10. Nice! My other dog is a cockapoo and we like him groomed really short so that he can grow into his curls and the maintenance isn't so much. The first time they did it perfectly, the second time it was a bit longer even though I had reminded them to make it short. He still looks great, though. The ladies are very nice there and let you come in the back for the nail cutting. The place looks clean and neat and there are bags and a trash can outside in case you need to pick up after your pet (my old groomer didn't have this which was a pain so I thought I'd mention it). read more

She is 40lb, not aggressive (never has been) and was denied solely of the fact that she is a pit bull mix. Do not waste your time or money on this disgusting business. Our previous groomer went out of business due to Covid 19 and I was nervous about finding a new groomer for our 85lb Goldendoodle. We dropped Beckham off and the staff was friendly. I spoke to 3 other customers and they gave rave reviews. That made me feel more comfortable. I picked up my dog 5 hours after I dropped him off and they had done an amazing job. His cut was even and smooth. Nails were perfectly done and he smelled very good. Not overly perfumed but clean smelling. I paid $100 and I have found that to be a fair price. This review is solely based on my experience. I opted not to leave my babygirl with them due to the reasons below: I called the Tuesday before Thanksgiving to see if they had any availability for Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving. I knew it was a long shot but I'm new to the area and am still trying to find vendors and businesses for everything that I knew comparable to my last home (NYC). She actually said they had space available so I pushed one more time to see if there was a better time for us to come in, as my dog has not been groomed by any one else in all of her 8 years and she gets very scared around a lot of other dogs, especially barking dogs. The woman on the phone assured me we could come in at 9:30 the next morning. The next morning, we drive up to Lorton, I walk inside and there is no one at the front. I did yell out a few 'hellos' before I noticed the sign on the door that said "If we're not at the front desk, feel free to come on back". I opened that door and was greeted by 2 little fluffy dogs in an open playpen grate. I still see no body, not one human. I look around and see 2 grooming tables, one full of hair (I assumed they had just finished shaving one) and the other was full of disorganized, disheveled papers. I yell out hello a few more times and finally a woman pops out from the back through another door that says "Keep closed". She tells me to come on back and enter. Ummm, first of all, there was hair, debris and stuff everywhere, about 15 dogs (big and small) in crates/cages. Further, the room was very warm and you can see this is evident as they had 3 or 4 fans placed throughout the room. I didn't know or feel comfortable what I was stepping into. On top of that, you have no clue who I am-I'm sure we have paperwork to fill out, confirming she is up to date on all shots, right?? My babygirl is Chihuahua/Yorkie mix (Chorkie). She gets very scared easily and I felt her start to shake as I held her. The two other techs in the room were not working on dogs and just seemed very frazzled and overwhelmed. They all kept telling me-sorry, it's a very busy day. Finally, one of the women brings me back up front to the area by the front door where I came in. She sits down and says-oh ok, yes you have a 9:30 appt, here's the paperwork to fill out. So before I started filling it out, I said-I asked for this time of morning, which you said would be quiet but clearly it is not. She just kept saying "Very busy day." So I stopped, b/c as a new customer, I felt remarkably uncomfortable and I knew that translated to my babygirl. I did ask her at 9:37, if they were able to take her in right away, I will wait in the lobby so you do not have to cage or crate her-she doesn't like it, She told me they wouldn't be done until noon. So what did I do? Promptly put the pen down and stopped filling in my name, and said thank you, but no thank you. I was under the impression you arrive for an appt, you are seen right away, give or take 1 off situation. On top of it all, I tell her no and that my baby was shaking. She said they all shake and then once we take them in the back, they stop and they're fine. I asked if I could see it happening from a window or something-OMG no, it was like I asked if I could borrow one of the bigger dogs to use in a show or something. So, unfortunately, with all of that detailed above, I chose not to and did not get my babygirl's grooming today. Sigh, still on the hunt for a great groomer. Online reviews only go but so far, you've got to actually visit the place and form an opinion for yourself-lesson learned. I'm glad those of you who rave abut your positive experiences were able to see this place on perhaps a good day. But, from what I saw today...no-go. I love my baby too much. read more

I took my 3 year old staffordshire terrier mix to get her nails clipped recently at Pet De Lite. Nala is a sweetheart and doesn't have an aggressive bone in her body, but does require a second person to hold her when getting her nails clipped since she is bigger and tends to pull her paw away when clipping. The woman clipping appeared frightened of Nala and asked me to come back with her and the employee helping. That is okay by me, since her seeing me and petting her calms her a bit. The clip job was not the greatest she has gotten, but also not the worst, so it's not the reason I only give 2 stars. Nala is a rescue dog, and she tends to get a bit anxious with loud noises and when there is a lot going on around her. The room where they were clipping her nails had multiple hair dryers on, dogs barking, and a large vacuum running. I understand the need to clean and do what they have to do, but I could tell she felt very anxious the whole time there. When finished, they left her tied to the table to go find a bandana which is a nice gesture, but it made her even more anxious waiting there tied up. A little treat after all that would have been ideal, and is what most place give once finished clipping. I don't think this was necessarily a bad experience, but if you do have a larger dog, or one that is a rescue, I'd think twice. read more

Love this place! They are so polite and sweet. I own a pretty large pit bull mix and they have no problem trimming her nails as some places are a bit hesitant. They are very quick and gentle with her, which is nice because my girl gets nervous and scared. They also put cute little scarves on her neck afterward :] Prices are very, very reasonable. So I went to check this place out before taking my Pomeranian. They showed me around and felt good, I schedule an appointment and was going to bring two of my babies. Fortunately one of my babies got sick and I only took my Pomeranian she looked great but than I notice excessive licking in her private parts. We have been taking our Yorkie, Ali, to Pet De Lite since we moved here in April 2010. Ali always looks beautiful after her grooming. I want her ears rounded, not tipped, and they understood and always do it for us. We have her hair cut short in the summer and then grow it longer in the winter. It is always done very well. I book her an appointment every four weeks and she always trots right in and happily comes back out after only about three hours. On occasion, I have had to get her in earlier or at the last minute cancel, but they are always accommodating. Grace is Ali's usual groomer. Ali is nearly twelve years old and we have had numerous groomers over those years and we are very happy with Pet De Lite.
