My cat died at home on Sunday early morning, and I callled on the same day at 7 am to find out about scheduling a cremation. The after hours staff gave me options to come in Monday or drop off my cat at local vet ER on Sunday evening for pick up by Per Angel on a regular workday. Miraculously I received a call from Lenee around 9 am offering same day drop off by appointment. for an additional cost which I gladly took. I was there by 11:40 am and had my cat in good hands. We were able to order memorial urn vase, necklace charm, and fur clipping which I had picked out in advance on their website. Lenee was super professional and compassionate. I am grateful for the options of paying more for a Sunday appointment so I can get my cat in good hands and not have to call out sick for work tomorrow. Even though I rated them 6/5 stars, I wanted to come back and report about my overall experience here. Should you ever need this service please consider the Shugart family to handle your needs. From the beginning of my loss until now I have seen how they treat their clients as family. I had text messages to me encouraging me to come to the counseling sessions and very warm messages asking if there was anything they could do further. It really felt like family was checking up and helping you versus a business taking your money and delivering a service and it's done. The counseling service and session they provided was great and needed. I got to talk to other pet parents that had to do the same things as I in giving my pet relief and I've been given some sort of peace of mind at this time seeing what others have gone through as well. I lost my cat in a really awful manner right before the pandemic hit, and with the ensuing chaos (and a prolonged mental health crisis) meant that I lost track entirely of what facility the emergency vet had even sent her remains to. You can find Deceased Pet Care Funeral Home and Cremation Services on 4991 Peachtree Rd, Atlanta, GA 30341 - this is the street that cuts across diagonally between Doraville and Chamblee that coins out behind the new Chamblee location of Whole Foods. The building is two-sort brick and a bit difficult to see - look for the porte a cochere on one end where you can drive up to the door. We brought our 20 year-out cat here upon her demise to provide for her cremation. The staff here was wonderful and very professional. Turnaround was about three days. In Jan 2017 I chose to pay full price to use Deceased Petcare over the place the current Veterinary Hospital has been using, based on my prior experience witnessing their excellent work with clients while working as a Vet Tech for an Alpharetta based Veterinary Hospital. However, their services had clearly tanked somewhere in between. Periodically, I pull out the paw print they made of my sweet "once in a lifetime kind of love" girl, who I thought I was going above and beyond to commemorate... and I always think "it can't be as bad as I remember" and.. it's always worse than I remembered. I received something that in my 7 years of Vet Tech work, I would NEVER have sent home with a client, even as a memento for a pet they weren't grieving the loss of. At the time the pain was so fresh and her body had been cremated.. there wasn't a way to do it over, so I let it go. 3 years later, it's still very upsetting to me that I paid $45 for something that breaks my heart more than her memory because of the negligence of their employee. read more

I lost my soul dog on Wednesday, it was my first time losing a pet and I didn't know how to properly handle the situation. I am also new to Georgia so I am unfamiliar with the area. I just have to say how grateful I am to have come across this company. Deceased pet care handled everything with extreme empathy and kindness. Since the first day I received phone calls throughout the week, updating me on the status of my baby (using those exact words "your baby" was such a kind way of showing humanity for those grieving their pets) and asking me how I would like his name to be displayed on the urn. My dog was returned to me in about a week, and I could tell from the presentation of his ashes that he had been handled with extreme care. Everything from his ashes to the ceramic paw print was wrapped in beautiful material with ribbons, and accompanied with a sympathy card from the company as well. The staff was extremely empathetic when I arrived and even set me in a private room to receive him in privacy. In the 60 or so years I have had these unbelievable animals (dobermen) they have become best friends, confidants, proctectors, life savers, heros and most beloved members of my family. I had to put my very best friend to sleep this week. I have had to do this in different countries and several states I have always had two dobermen. I lost my little Girl Cat about a year ago. Her name was Fidget, she was special. Not of this earth, just too wise and good. I wear an urn necklace daily to keep her with me. I am perpetually low on funds so I honestly went for the most affordable option available, but was pleasantly surprised by the work and love put into this family business. Everyone I encountered was professional and sympathetic, nobody pushed me when I said I couldn't afford fancy specialized urns and name plates, and they were just as caring when I picked her up. They had no problem with small special requests, either. I asked to save her whiskers, and they trimmed them and placed them in a gold translucent bag where I could see them without damaging them. I wish I had the experience that other reviewer's did. I had to put down my first pet on 1/2/22. It was completely unexpected and from his ER check in to his euthanasia was less than 12 hours. I was a mess and had no idea what the next steps were having never navigated the process and feel that was taken advantage of. I was contacted my by 'counselor' at Deceased Pet Care Inc. who discussed how to handle my beloved cat's remains. The initial conversation went well and things like the "Tree of Life" box were 'included' which made the process easier. She told me each line of engraving on a plaque was only $30 so I initially planned to have his name added. Immediately she started suggesting additional phrases and lines of text which would up the price and I didn't want them. She told me the total would be near $290, the cheapest option available. I explained I had just paid an expensive ER bill including the euthanasia process and couldn't afford that amount. She told me they had already picked up & transported the remains so I would need to make a decision quickly. I was told they only did private cremations and would have to pay them to transfer his remains to another facility if I wanted to do a group cremation. I hung up and reached out to my mom who has been a veterinarian for over 25 years and handled countless euthanasia cases. When she called every answer was different. They claimed I still wanted the custom engraved Tree of Life box and hadn't expressed any financial constraints which she knew wasn't true. The option for a group cremation for $125 was explained to my mom despite telling me that wasn't a service they offered. The worst part was when I told my 'counselor' that I needed to go for that option having spent all I have on the ER/euthanasia she made multiple comments about how I would "never get part of him back". I was made to feel like I didn't care for my pet because I put all of my money in his life and couldn't afford nicer options after his passing. An already horrible experience was made far more traumatic with intense pressure to decide quickly, lies about what options I had for his remains, and guilt tripping because I wasn't able to bring his ashes home. His passing was hard enough without the unnecessary trauma and sadness of being treated like a bad pet mom because I didn't have money for a flashy urn. read more

Our beloved cat Jimi passed suddenly on Tuesday (4/18/2017) and our vet recommended DPC. We were able to get in before 5 in the evening and sat with a senior funeral director to go over what we would like. We opted for basic cremation services but request a hair clipping be collected. Additionally we opted to get an embellished paw print plaque as well. We left with the expectation of receiving a call sometime late this week or early next week. On Friday (4/21/2017) we received a call that Jimi was ready to be picked up, so we went on over. We were pleased with the tin they'd chosen for him, and the plaque was beautiful (I am half laughing through my sorrow because his claws were never really retracted and so they left little pinpricks in the clay as well), but the clipping was missing. The woman assisting us went to go find out where it was--it was apparently supposed to be in the box with his cremains and plaque--only to come back and say the technician missed the notation regarding a hair clipping so none was taken. We must have looked devastated--and I honestly felt that way--because she went to speak with the director we'd visited with on Tuesday and came back with the offer to place his ashes in a different urn. They did this, and apologized profusely for the "oversight," but it's still not okay. I give DPC three stars because they did everything else they promised us, but they lose two stars for lack of reading comprehension. read more

I've debated between 2 and 3 stars for this review since yesterday. I'm ultimately going with 3 because the majority of the interactions I had with the staff here was positive... except for one major, major issue. My cat Jimi passed away very unexpectedly this week. Our vet recommended Deceased Pet Care, and so that was what we went with. The director was the one who guided us through what we would like done with his remains, and he was very courteous and understanding of our grief. He is the one who recommended we get a hair clipping from him to remember him by, and after some debate, we decided for it. We got the call a few days later to pick him up. The urn was small and tasteful. The plaque was beautifully done. But the hair clipping was missing. The woman helping us this time went to check for it, but it turned out that they had forgotten to do it. Someone had missed the note to do the clipping. They upgraded his urn for free, but it doesn't change that we wanted that hair clipping to remember him by. I didn't find the woman to be kind or sympathetic, not like the original man we spoke to. If I had to hazard a guess, I think she was more concerned with us threatening to sue or something. All I could think was that, in a human funeral home, wouldn't this be like neglecting the family's instructions about how a deceased family member wanted to be remembered, like dressing grandma in someone else's clothes for the funeral. Others may have had good experiences with this company, but they have given me no reason to trust them right out the gate. read more

My husband's dog of 14 yrs passed away a couple of days after Christmas. Happy lived a good life. He was well loved by his family and very well treated. We were all so sad to see him go so suddenly. Trust Dale...but no more! Our beloved dog died in April of 2013 and we decided to go with DPC. They told us we could have a paw print done before cremation but when we called to accept, we were told they were "sorry" but she'd already been cremated. They were rude when we went to pick up her ashes. Manager came at us like he was ready for a fight. No offer to discount an urn, said it was the fault of a woman working at a different location, refused to take responsibility for the mistake. Was more interested in defending his business than anything else. Frankly I can't believe they are still "Dale Certified" ... fancy place that is more about maintaining a false façade and reputation than working with grieving pet owners. Shameful. read more

I just received my beloved Lovebug's Pet ashes in a tin can that probably cost $1.00. Not a paw print, not some of his fur. It is the cheapest I have ever gotten back from any other crematory service. They blamed it on the clinic were we had to put him to sleep. They never called to make sure that this was the very cheapest route we wanted. Now it is too late. He was my beloved companion and all they could say was "sorry" and blame it all on the clinic. The least they could have done is saved some of his fur and do an ink paw print (if the are so concerned about the buck). This was not just a dog for me. He was the most sweet, kind and gentle dog I have ever owned. Now all I have is his ashes in this cheap tin box. If you want something where your dog is treated more like your Beloved special companion use another place and save the wrenching heart ache I now feel. read more

Our vet referred us to Loving Care in Douglasville. Apparently they use Deceased Pet for the actual cremation. I have no issue with the service and the flowered tin is nice, especially since I thought we would just be receiving a bag inside a box. We opted for the Clay Pawprint only because apparently the vet's office had marked the request on the form and when Loving Care called to confirm, we opted to go with it. I would not recommend it. It is listed as "Terra Cotta Pawprint" on the invoice and it cost $45. It is pretty plain and basic and I wouldn't pay more than $10 to $20 for something like this. In fact, with our previous pet, our vet sent us a nice ink pawprint on cardstock which was free and I liked it a lot more! read more

These people are absolutely incredible. They took such great care of our sweet boy. They made little clay paw prints & paw & nose impressions on a prayer sheet as wonderful keepsakes. The director made sure to take extra care of us & our boy. He said a prayer over him before the cremation, as has been tradition with the home, & even stayed half an hour past closing when we were running behind to pick up the ashes. In these hard times, you always wanna make sure you & your beloved are well cared for. & Shugart's absolutely does just that. Many sympathies to those who find themselves in the unfortunate spot of being in need of such services. But Shugart's even goes the extra mile to provide information on a support group who gathers at the home on the first Tues of every month.
