The cafe sells alcohol and the toilets are free. What else do you need to know? :) Platforms are well sheltered with a good amount of benches, so fine if you have to wait around in the rain for your train to arrive. The 7 platforms are quite spread out so allow yourself a few minutes for navigation across bridges if you're unfamiliar with the station. Toilets are clean and beyond the barriers so you can leave it right up until the last minute to go - good if you're setting out on a long train journey and would prefer not to have to go on the train. (I don't often mind but as a solo traveller today I'd prefer not to have to haul all my stuff with me to the toilet, and asking someone to get up to let me out.) There's a small kiosk where you can buy snacks - this is before the barriers. Clearly identifiable recycling bins. The departure board can be seen clearly as soon as you walk in the main entrance, you don't have to go hunting for it. I've heard the car park is quite tiny for the amount of footfall this station gets but as a non-driver that's unlikely to affect me. As far as train stations go I'm quite happy with it. read more

Ma hame toon station so I'm a bit biased but it's pretty! Decorated with art on the walls (yes, in a train station!) and barrels in the shape of trains filled with flowers! The cafe does awesome bacon rolls and obviously WHS is vastly overpriced, but hey! There's wee heated shelters to hide from winter winds and the place is always clean and tidy which is a bonus. I slightly favor the perth station because it's my home station. While it doesn't have much in the ways of shops , the architecture and historic feel make it seem almost magical... I know that sounds cheesy but im there three times a week and I should be bored of it by now, but I still love it . The design and layout make me feel as though I'm going on a adventure through time ...I have no idea about historic eras of architecture here in Scotland but if I was to guess I'd say it was built in the Victorian era... There are some cool paintings of trains on the platforms that cover the east side of Scotland . And they have made some cute flower trains out of old barrels . Really the worst part of the station is the lobby that's newer and more sterile feeling but your only in there for a few minutes in passing. The staff have always been really friendly and helpful ! Now if they can just switch the weird little food shop out for a Starbucks and It would be a 5 star ;) (well at least a stronger 4 haha) read more

I've been working in Perth for years and passed through here many times (too many times!). The station itself is huge for a small place like Perth but a lot of lines (going to Aberdeen, Inverness, Glasgow, Edinburgh, etc) seem to pass through here so it serves as an interchange station. Sometimes the station feels very empty because of its size. The facilities are not very good, with just a few vending machines and the cafe providing food and drink. I've never tried the cafe, even when delayed a long time, as it doesn't look very appealing. My experience with the station staff has been mixed. They have recently been quite friendly and apologetic when trains have been delayed. I was even allowed through the barrier without showing my ticket once! I've had problems a few times where the ticket machine wouldn't print all my tickets and the staff were unhelpful, claiming that there was nothing that they could do, this was quickly resolved by asking for help at another station. read more

I've only used Perth train station as a drop of to catch another train to go elsewhere. There are not any shelters that l have noticed so when it's winter it can be very cold. There are vending machine's for drinks and snacks and there is a taxi rank just out side. Perth race course nearby. read more

This is a good station for the most part. The staff are friendly, but this doesn't mean that there are always enough staff here to take ticket purchases. It's pretty common to have issues with the ticket machine which means you have to stand in the queue to collect the tickets that were purchased online. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but there's usually only one person on the desk selling tickets so I normally expect a bit of a wait. Since they installed the ticket barriers last year, the toilets are on the side of the barriers which require ticketed entrance. It's worth noting that there is another entrance and car park on York Place, which has access directly to Platform 7 after the barriers. This can save you as much as 5 minutes if you know your train will depart from there. read more

I had cause to contact Scotrail regarding lost property which was lost in a taxi provided by Perth train station but am very dismayed at getting nowhere and going round in circles telephoning Scotrail numerous times and being passed around different departments and staff all to no avail. I eventually obtained the direct telephone number for Perth train station lost property office and on my phoning a few times i was told initially when i eventually got a reply, that the staff member who deals with lost property was not available and i was to phone back. I telephoned again later only to be met with a message saying there was a problem with the phone ?:i contacted Scotrail customer service again they tried the number and received the same message;i was told a staff member from Perth train station would call me back and after 4 hours of waiting in at home on the phone call no one phoned and i left a message on the answering machine asking them to call me as by then the lost property office was closed at Perth train station. A female staff member named Audrey did telephone me and i could not believe her abusive tone and was appalled at her attitude which was "nothing to do with her" ,i.e. my property being lost in a taxi provided by the train station staff. I attempted to explain to her that i thought the driver of the taxi would have handed my lost property into the lost property office but this abusive woman just kept raising her voice refusing to listen and she then hung up on me;i was very upset and dismayed at her rude,abrupt ,unpleasant manner and her unwillingless to actually listen and help. I really would not like to be a foreign visitor to the Perthshire area and to lose property either at this station or on any Scotrail service as clearly they are not interested in helping, they pass customers around and some staff are rude ,abrupt and extremely unpleasant. I will say that thankfully there are a few staff members at Perth train station who are always willing to assist customers and are pleasant but sadly the lost property staff member is not one of them. read more
