It is staffed pretty much all the time and has two large buildings either side of the tracks, with a underground corridor that connects the two! The one on the side of the line that runs south is the main building with a glass roof. It has a ticket office as well as a good sized waiting room area upstairs. This is the more modern building, and was built to accommodate the amount of people using the station. There is also a large car park, so don't worry you will not need to park your car on some dodgy street when you are away!

As I am and elderly lady, not very savvy with ticket machines I went to the counter with my details and Credit Card. The ticket man shouted "Next" and I went up to the counter. Without me even getting to ask anything he said "Thurs a ticket machine ower thur". I meekly went back over to the machine where a young girl was able to assist me and retrieve my tickets. There are plenty of signs throughout the airport indicating where you need to go to get the Tram (though, heads-up, depending on what gate you're coming from/going to, it could be a very long walk). Pass the enormous E D I N B U R G H letters outside the airport, and you'll see the ticket kiosks (pricing is currently £7.50 for a single, or £9.50 for an open return - the better value! I think you also save 50p if you pre-purchase online). Trams to the city from the airport run every seven to ten minutes, it takes about thirty to thirty-five minutes from the airport to either the Princes St or St Andrews Square stop (admittedly, I've never traveled beyond these two stops). There's spacious luggage racks to store your bags, plenty of seats for everyone, and it's noticeably clean as well. Make sure you have your ticket on you so they can check it (because they will). This is definitely the least stressful way to travel to/from the airport!

That cleared up very quickly once I was directed to the Lothian office near Waverley Bridge. A friendly and helpful clerk (who must deal with people like me day-in and day-out) was able to explain the day ticket (£3? All day? Yes.) and provide me with a map of the bus routes. Five minutes later, I was waiting at my stop and five minutes after that, I was in the front row of a double-decker on the way to my destination. The bus ticket is surprisingly simple and very clever. I purchased three, as I'm here three days. Each one has a series of scratch offs for the day, month and year. You just scratch off the right date and you're good to go. Nice. The buses I've ridden have been clean and prompt. While the ride may be speedy, the roads are a little bumpy. I think my driver yesterday actually missed one of the drains! They also have an iPhone app (jeez, there's an app for everything!) so you can find the nearest stop and when the bus is due to arrive.

There's no attempt at any artistic merit at the platform level; however that is redeemed largely by the fantastic Alasdair Gray mural on the entrance concourse wall. I feel they have missed a trick with the refurbishment by not taking the opportunity to install LED lighting and incorporate more design elements on the platforms. It's hard to maintain the sense of individuality that the stations used to have when they are all bright white tiles. Some design motifs would have helped, and with LED lighting they would not only be more eco-friendly, they could change the mood of the lighting to suit the occasion. The best it can be described as is functional and utilitarian. But I do love the mural upstairs.

It has both staffed and self-service ticket…read moresales points and it has plenty of space in the main entrance and six turnstiles for its hundreds of customers - Hillhead is one of the busiest subway stops in the city. It also has that cool Alastair Grey tiled mural and a coffee shop. This stop is especially handy for Byres Road, the Botanic Gardens and the University of Glasgow which goes some way to explaining why its one of the busier stops on the Clockwork Orange. It's definitely a bit crowded at peak times but the regular rate of trains passing through mean that this isn't normally an issue. It has just reopened following works to modernise the subway in (summer 2016). However, since these works were necessary for sections of track at the depot, rather than for the stations themselves, it looks more or less the same as it did before.

There's a staffed ticket office but there are machines to buy tickets from as well. The station also has bike racks, a small car park, a coffee kiosk, waiting rooms and free WiFi via the Cloud. You can reach Milngavie centre via an underpass just outside the station. Also right outside the station is a small but pretty little square with a couple of benches - possibly a nicer place to sit in sunny weather. It's a well kept station with baskets of flowers and plants around and is apparently a grade B listed building.

One of the slicker stations offered on the local line, Milngavie is well maintained and relatively…read moreaesthetically pleasing. Unsurprising, I guess, given the affluence of the area. With an elaborately decorated underpass leading into the town centre, it's a nice way to welcome the abudance of visitors the town gets who are preparing to start the West Highland Way. Indeed, it gets an extra star for the provision of bike lockers, which is obviously particularly handy in this location.
