Stirling Railway Station

Stirling Railway Station

This is one of the smaller stations we traveled in and out of on our most recent UK trip. While…read moreit's clean and relatively easy to navigate, you don't really have much to choose from while inside the station itself. There are stairs that lead from one platform to the next, and the signs can be a bit confusing (indeed, our first time through Stirling was on our trip from Inverness to Edinburgh, and I mistakenly read the signs as "up one flight to platform 2". Thank goodness my husband realized my mistake before we hauled all our luggage up and over for no reason!) The trains ran on schedule here, as well, the three times we had occasion to pop on and off. It got to be a bit of a push on our Edinburgh return train, as the train only had 3 cars and there were quite a few people looking to get on, but we managed to find good seats facing the right direction without an issue.

I often head to Stirling on days off, with regular trains to and from Glasgow…read more There is not a lot here to offer in the station a cafe with out of order toilets and a WH smith I have never noticed the AMT coffee but will look out for it when I'm here next time. I like that there is a heated waiting room where other stations don't and a toilet that is free to use and when they do they charge you for the facilities. When l was heading back to Glasgow I had to use the rest room where a couple where getting jiggly in one of the cubicles, I knew this as her legs half way out the door, either that the guy was showing his cd collection and she was impressed but doubt that very much. Anyway to cut the story short l announced to the now full waiting room the goings on in the cubicle and for everyone to look at the door when they walked out, they had no shame, hope it wasn't a first date. This train station well deserved the 4 stars given for pure entertainment that l get every time l visit this station. P.s the couple sat at the seats across from me and got of at queen st.

I enjoy cycling to work. 15-20 minutes of pure pedal power and I've arrived at my 9-5. That back…read moreagain in the evening and, heck, I've just about nailed my 30 minutes of movement for the day! Although, there are some days when I don't cycle. - We'll call them 'yuck' days since that's the reaction they provoke when you open your curtains in the morning. Rain, hail, snow...YUCK; well and truly YUCK. If you cycle to work on such a day, you're going to arrive unhappy. Unhappy and wet. I'm not a frequent traveller from Bridge of Allan train station but, today, I'm grateful for its existence. Today was not a day for cycling, and so, I hopped on the train from Stirling to Bridge of Allan. Travelling via train rather than bus is a lot more cost effective and the journey takes just 5 minutes, with trains going between Stirling and B of A every half hour. A lot of people think that Stirling's a wee, wee place. And it is. But Bridge of Allan is such a tiny teeny wee place within an already wee place that the presence of a train station is a pleasant surprise. It'd be really convenient to get to Glasgow or Edinburgh if you lived in Bridge of Allan thanks to this station. And Dunblane and Stirling are both just a stop away. Also, there are really large shelters on both sides. - Hurray for staying dry while you wait for your train! No more ghastly bus fares! And no more unhappy faces on gloomy days, for I can get to work (relatively) dry!

The Bridge of Allan station is very useful, there's no doubt about that. It's the closest train…read morestation to the University of Stirling and has trains that lead to Stirling, Glasgow, and Edinburgh. It's my pathway to learning and back to home and for it I'm extremely grateful. That being said, it's the bare minimal requirement to be a station. There are some coverings to stand under, machines to buy tickets, and a sign saying which trains are coming next. This isn't bad, it's not really a station where you'd want to go when not travelling. It's not even one with a public toilet you can use in an emergency. It's just a place to wait for trains... and that's A-OK (thus the three star rating)
