This is a small, 2 platform station servicing Uddingston with trains to Glasgow Central, Edinburgh,…read moreDalmuir, Motherwell and Lanark, as well as other smaller stations. It's quite a nice station. There's a large car park, as well as bike racks and it's staffed but there are ticket machines (although no barriers) available as well. The station has good accessibility and a small coffee shop on platform 1. There are flowers in baskets here and plenty of seating.

It's barely even a station, and more of an lonely,…read moredesolate area with two platforms, a bridge and one small shelter for those "rare" Scottish days of bad weather. This is my local station though, and needs must. I like that trains seem to arrive on time and if the driver sees you running for the train, they'll (mostly) wait for you. I've had some great times standing at this platform, most notably in the snow in negative temperatures and then tramping back home again as the train was a no-show. There's now an extra car park in addition to the one at the station, it's over the road and has a stupidly located exit so you have to go back on yourself to get out and over to the station. Nothing like a mad dash to run for the train first thing in the morning. II'd love it if they upgraded Patterton to make it more like its glamorous neighbour, Whitecraigs. Now this is a fancy station - they even have flower planter boxes and an indoor waiting area. Alas, I don't think that's going to happen any time soon.

The train station is dirty but the coach seat was perfect and clean once on the train. The passengers and workers were extremely friendly and helpful, making for a great, safe and comforting trip. The boarding process was quick and easy, especially with luggage. Although we had to carry our luggage up 1 stair, the train wasn't sold out so there was plenty of room for our many bags.

There are regular express trains from Glasgow going here that only take 12 or 15 minutes. There are of course cancellations and delays like other train stations, but for the most part it is a reliable train station. The staff at the kiosk are notoriously rude. Or maybe they just don't like me?

Motherwell Rail Station and the surrounding roads recently went under a big upgrade. The people of Motherwell probably don't appreciate their luck at being on the West Coast Mainline as there are hardly ever any people who get on here to go south to England.

My wonderful local train station!…read more Hamilton Central is one of Hamilton's 2 train stations, and as the name suggests, the central one. I've never been overly fond of this train station, because it's outside therefore it's always freezing and wet, and on days when the weather is terrible, the 2 small indoor areas are always absolutely mobbed. It's relatively big, with the brand new bus station right next door, and is usually quite clean, so isn't an eyesore, it's just not the friendliest feeling place in the world!

It has a cracking wee deli within walking distance! Allow a wee bit extra for making it to your platform if you have to cross the big bridge, though!

Well it's kind of a mess right now as it's going through some major renovations. From what I've heard is things are being removed and replaced. Hopefully by the next time I've visited, it should be complete. The nice thing about this area, everything is all walking distance from each other. You can start off at a pub, move over to next. Get some shipping done, grab a meal and finish off at another pub. So many good restaurants that's all nearby. Both quick and easy places and sit down dining. Even loads of more upscale bars and restaurants. Just popping into different places and seeing what's there is really great. Major plus, with the train station ending there, it sure brings in loads of people. Daily and especially during the weekend.

Apart from using it a far bit when I was in, and…read morearound the Shawlands area more; my brother has used it an awful lot over the years for various jobs. As he points out - this has an impressive view of the city, especially from a train station. However, it is also a view of some of the more urban areas from the city, which means that you can play 'count the high rise flats' while you wait on your train. It also has two entrances and/or exits and one of these does happen to be particularly ill lit later on in the evening. Therefore, I would urge you to use caution if utilising this train station later on. Though, over all it's not a bad train station and does offer needed public transport. Certainly, if you are living in Glasgow for some time or travelling due to work, it's likely that you'll come across here at some point.

As far as destinations go, if you are leaving here or heading in the opposite direction, you are…read moreheading in the right direction. At Airdrie train station there is not a lot to do or see and as for facilities there is a snack bar on site with limited selection and opening hours. There is an open waiting room that will keep you dry as long as you don't mind the wind. Outside the station within a few minutes walk there is a taxi rank but at most times there are no taxis, for shops in the area are now limited to betting shops, charity and pound lands. In the summer it may be nice but when winter comes it can be depressing.

Why Airdrie council don't take advantage of this in trying to get people from both Airdrie and Edinburgh to come here. The station looks great. Shame, they left the old cabin office. What they were thinking, I'll never know. Get a new building that doesn't stand out like a sorethumb and I'll give you 5 stars.
