As he points out - this has an impressive view of the city, especially from a train station. However, it is also a view of some of the more urban areas from the city, which means that you can play 'count the high rise flats' while you wait on your train. It also has two entrances and/or exits and one of these does happen to be particularly ill lit later on in the evening. Therefore, I would urge you to use caution if utilising this train station later on. Though, over all it's not a bad train station and does offer needed public transport. Certainly, if you are living in Glasgow for some time or travelling due to work, it's likely that you'll come across here at some point.

Undoubtedly an indication of the level of car ownership in this neck of the woods (somehow I doubt there are many Rangers and Celtic players who jump on a train to Murray Park and Lennoxtown) , Giffnock Railway Station offers two platforms with half hourly services to East Kilbride and Glasgow. With limited sheltered area and a ticket office which was completely closed up when I visited at 5pm on a Wednesday, it's not a particularly pleasant place to wait for a train although fair play to staff who'd thoroughly salted the platforms as a result of icy conditions. Having seen my girlfriend take a quite spectacular tumble at another train station, I can vouch for the fact that not all take quite so much care of their passengers.

The ticket office appears to be boarded up which means commuters have to wait until they are on the train before buying a ticket. It's on the East Kilbride line and has services about every 30 minutes into town or East Kilbride. I like the trains on this line as they tend to be quite comfortable, a bit better than the basic ones on the Neilston line (but then, a train's a train and it's not that long of a journey). The trip into Glasgow is a short 17 minute journey and is £2.90 for a single or £3.10 for an off-peak return. If you're travelling to Giffnock, you'll find a lovely village-style town with some really great shops worth visiting - Whole Foods Market is the big draw card, but there's some other places worth stopping along the way as well as a couple of nice restaurants and the Orchard Park Hotel if you want a drink.

It's is a relatively busy little station always choc-a-block with commutors heading to work. Once stepping out of this train station you will find yourself on Fenwick Road which homes a whole host of independant shops from stationary, card shops, restaurants to delis and larger grocery stores. It is a bustling little street and particularly nice to stroll down on a nice summers day.

They've recently built a new waiting shelter for when the ticket office is closed, complete with metal seats and a tiny little heater, I guess it's better than nothing.

However, a trip to the 1901 bar and restaurant is easily within walking distance and will certainly improve any visit here. Likewise, you can enjoy a short stroll along Pollokshaws Road into the heart of Shawlands with all it's bustle and hustle. So, all in all this is a useful train station, for certain purposes, that provides a relatively good service of four trains an hour into the City Centre at a reasonable price.

The service is always quick and efficent and their prices i would have to say are good as well. The taxi depot you can go in and order a tax and wait in the small waiting area. I always use this company over the other one "compass taxis" no particular reason just always been delighted with the service and the number i never forget so always give them a ring. If you are getting a taxi at the weekend you can be waiting a while so book if you know when you are going out or coming back this saves for dissapointment and lots of waiting.

So, the morning comes and I am waiting for my taxi and literally 2 mins before it was supposed to arrive I got a text saying "No taxis in your area, try another company" ... Highly unprofessional, very rude and made me late for work. I wouldn't waste your time or money when there are much better, faster, more reliable friendlier taxi companies all over the Barrhead, Paisley, Renfrew area. Will never use this company again.
