That's is a designated smoking area and a shelter if its windy or raining. There is no disabled access and the platform is a lot lower than any train station that l have ever seen so caution when boarding or exiting the train. At the end of the road there is no taxi rank, l did observe a bus stop but the busses don't run that frequent.

The 7 platforms are quite spread out so allow yourself a few minutes for navigation across bridges if you're unfamiliar with the station. Toilets are clean and beyond the barriers so you can leave it right up until the last minute to go - good if you're setting out on a long train journey and would prefer not to have to go on the train. (I don't often mind but as a solo traveller today I'd prefer not to have to haul all my stuff with me to the toilet, and asking someone to get up to let me out.) There's a small kiosk where you can buy snacks - this is before the barriers. Clearly identifiable recycling bins. The departure board can be seen clearly as soon as you walk in the main entrance, you don't have to go hunting for it. I've heard the car park is quite tiny for the amount of footfall this station gets but as a non-driver that's unlikely to affect me. As far as train stations go I'm quite happy with it.

There…read moreare platforms in either direction and a small waiting room for those like me on my last trip who had missed the train to Edinburgh by one minute since the bus from St Andrews wasn't timed properly to get us there for the train. Therefore, I had to wait 30 min for the next train, which them proceeded to be a slow 1 1/2 hour train to Edinburgh instead of the 50 minute train. Sad day! I was waylaid at the Leuchars station like a beached whale unable to do anything. In short, it's rediculous that St Andrews doesn't have its own station and the Leuchars station is a rather pathetic one.

Turn to the left and you will find bathrooms. 20 pence to use. There is also limited storage where you can leave your bags for £5 for the largest. That is quite nice. If you have had no luck buying Jacobite tickets you can walk on down and speak to the guard at Coach D. They have a limited number that come open every day.

There aren't many facilities here other than the ticket office and a self service kiosk. Toilets are available free of charge inside the station but still look as if they are from the 1960's be advised that they vary opening times but usually open at 8am. The station is clean and tidy with a seating area inside whilst you wait for your train. Plenty of places to go if you are stuck here for a while. There is a news agents around the corner handy for juice and the daily papers.

The station is not much to look at but it is located centrally and worked out well to take a train to Edinburgh. The train ride to Edinburgh was very enjoyable. The train is clean and the staff really friendly and helpful. The train is efficient and on time. Sometime la it takes a bit to determine the platform but be patient. The first class is a bit more but sometime if booked out in advance it isn't much more and it is more quiet. It is a scenic ride. And nobody has to drive. On the wrong side. Lol. Enjoy!
