Price wise I believe is different depending on where you start. We alway stick to the return instead of one way. The station itself is pretty big. Lots of terminals so make sure to check the schedule to see where your train is at. Sometimes schedule changes so also be aware. There's a good amount of quick and easy eating places. Coffee shops as well. Right in the heart of the station, you'll find a couple of things to do. Mainly grab a drink if your waiting for your train.... lol... There alway security on hand if you have any questions about anything. The stations where you get on and off the train is pretty long so it could be a walk to exit if you're coming off from the end of train. It's a couple of flights on the escalator till you reach the top. There's an indoor waiting area as well as public restrooms. But if it's your first time, it could be a little intimidating finding your way around. Also a few different ways to enter and exit.

Waverley offers by far the most dramatic welcome into the city, with visitors emerging right into the heart of Edinburgh, with the castle ahead of you, the Old Town to the left, and the Scott Monument and New Town along to the right: it's kind of overwhelming while exiting. note: they have lift to take you to road level. Fact: it's the world's only railway station named after a work of literature. but prior to the station being named Waverley, it was formerly the North British Railway Station - run by the North British Railway company. There was a time when Scotland was referred to as 'north Britain', which may shed light on some of the country's identity issues!

The 7 platforms are quite spread out so allow yourself a few minutes for navigation across bridges if you're unfamiliar with the station. Toilets are clean and beyond the barriers so you can leave it right up until the last minute to go - good if you're setting out on a long train journey and would prefer not to have to go on the train. (I don't often mind but as a solo traveller today I'd prefer not to have to haul all my stuff with me to the toilet, and asking someone to get up to let me out.) There's a small kiosk where you can buy snacks - this is before the barriers. Clearly identifiable recycling bins. The departure board can be seen clearly as soon as you walk in the main entrance, you don't have to go hunting for it. I've heard the car park is quite tiny for the amount of footfall this station gets but as a non-driver that's unlikely to affect me. As far as train stations go I'm quite happy with it.

Dunkeld train station is an unmanned train station. There are no facilities available, tickets are…read moreonly available on the train. That's is a designated smoking area and a shelter if its windy or raining. There is no disabled access and the platform is a lot lower than any train station that l have ever seen so caution when boarding or exiting the train. At the end of the road there is no taxi rank, l did observe a bus stop but the busses don't run that frequent.

There's a small waiting room posted in between the main entrance and the restrooms. They have the usual pamphlets and such for those visiting the area. We didn't spend a whole lot of time in the station itself. We were on a tight timeline to walk to Belhaven, and when we returned, we slipped in the front door and kept walking right onto the outbound train. We did stop long enough to notice that it's a clean station, and that the employees we encountered were friendly and helpful for those who had questions along the way.

It wasn't open mind you, but I appreciate the thought - especially at a place that is so bare to begin with. Gotta love a little surprise bookworm find! There are no snackables or coffee to be had, so if you've got an early morning train to catch, grab something in town before you head over.
