Price wise I believe is different depending on where you start. We alway stick to the return instead of one way. The station itself is pretty big. Lots of terminals so make sure to check the schedule to see where your train is at. Sometimes schedule changes so also be aware. There's a good amount of quick and easy eating places. Coffee shops as well. Right in the heart of the station, you'll find a couple of things to do. Mainly grab a drink if your waiting for your train.... lol... There alway security on hand if you have any questions about anything. The stations where you get on and off the train is pretty long so it could be a walk to exit if you're coming off from the end of train. It's a couple of flights on the escalator till you reach the top. There's an indoor waiting area as well as public restrooms. But if it's your first time, it could be a little intimidating finding your way around. Also a few different ways to enter and exit.

Visitors arriving into Edinburgh generally do so via one of two routes - fly into the city's airport, or disembark from a train at Waverley Station, the largest and most central of the city's two major stations. Waverley offers by far the most dramatic welcome into the city, with visitors emerging right into the heart of Edinburgh, with the castle ahead of you, the Old Town to the left, and the Scott Monument and New Town along to the right: it's kind of overwhelming while exiting. note: they have lift to take you to road level. Fact: it's the world's only railway station named after a work of literature. but prior to the station being named Waverley, it was formerly the North British Railway Station - run by the North British Railway company. There was a time when Scotland was referred to as 'north Britain', which may shed light on some of the country's identity issues!

There…read moreare platforms in either direction and a small waiting room for those like me on my last trip who had missed the train to Edinburgh by one minute since the bus from St Andrews wasn't timed properly to get us there for the train. Therefore, I had to wait 30 min for the next train, which them proceeded to be a slow 1 1/2 hour train to Edinburgh instead of the 50 minute train. Sad day! I was waylaid at the Leuchars station like a beached whale unable to do anything. In short, it's rediculous that St Andrews doesn't have its own station and the Leuchars station is a rather pathetic one.

Well, a word to the wise, this may not be a totally impartial review as I'm local to this station…read more As in, walk to the bottom of my road, turn left and BOOM there it is. It's a nice little station, and it's handy. There's two basic services from here, to Glasgow and to Edinburgh every two hours. Both of these take approximately 45mins, which isn't bad at all. The last train from Edinburgh to Carstairs arrives at midnight - very good for the odd night out. There's also the sleeper service direct to London, which I've also used. Walk from my door, hop on a train, go to sleep and wake up in London! How good is that??? The station itself is very busy for through traffic, with pretty much every Glasgow and further north service heading south at speed through the station. Ideal if you have an anorak and thermos flask,,, The ticket office is manned in the morning, until about 2pm - after that, tickets are available on the trains. The village itself doesn't have much in the way of attractions if you're planning to visit - there's a primary school, a Londis (with a post office!), a hairdresser, a pub and a couple of haulage firms. Oh, and the State Mental Hospital, but I don't use that. Honest. *twitch* You can get a bus from the station into Lanark, which opens up New Lanark and the likes, so you could make a day of it that way. It's my station. I like it. So there.

What else do you need to know? :) Platforms are…read morewell sheltered with a good amount of benches, so fine if you have to wait around in the rain for your train to arrive. The 7 platforms are quite spread out so allow yourself a few minutes for navigation across bridges if you're unfamiliar with the station. Toilets are clean and beyond the barriers so you can leave it right up until the last minute to go - good if you're setting out on a long train journey and would prefer not to have to go on the train. (I don't often mind but as a solo traveller today I'd prefer not to have to haul all my stuff with me to the toilet, and asking someone to get up to let me out.) There's a small kiosk where you can buy snacks - this is before the barriers. Clearly identifiable recycling bins. The departure board can be seen clearly as soon as you walk in the main entrance, you don't have to go hunting for it. I've heard the car park is quite tiny for the amount of footfall this station gets but as a non-driver that's unlikely to affect me. As far as train stations go I'm quite happy with it.
