friendly welcome, good food and set in a nice quiet village. Old coaching in so no two rooms are the same which adds to the interest. We had a room at the front and expected traffic noise but that wasn't a problem. read more

The only staff member that has helped us is Ashlee the front desk, girl. When I first called about my son who got a bug bite and it was swelling up really bad and we needed help. The concierge told me that there was no one here to help us and that we could attempt to take him to the emergency room but because we were from out of the country, they probably wouldn't see us. I am so glad I called back and got Ashlee the front desk girl because she is actually a nurse. She came to our room, examined the bites, cleaned them and then wrapped them and sent us to the emergency room where we were completely taken care of without any charge! I do not know why the concierge would have not helped us and gave us more to worry about when we were already stressed out. We also received a $250 smoking charge letter because the housekeeping saw My Husband's cigars and smoking stuff out when he was leaving to go play golf he got his stuff out to take his cigars with him. I took my two year-old son for breakfast and came back to only my bed being made in my room and with a letter under my door stating that we had smoked in our room and we were being charged $250. I called the front desk, asked to speak to a manager and was told that they would call me right back. I had to call three times and wait for two hours before anyone even called me. I am now in my room, waiting for the management to contact housekeeping to see if the charge will be reversed. I find this extremely frustrating, considering how much money we have paid to stay here. I also feel that the rooms are outdated and rundown compared to all the other Fairmont I have stayed in.!

Overall would recommend, but next time I would definitely look at the other options nearby.

I would absolutely recommend the Bein Inn Hotel. It is charming and welcoming, fabulous service and great food, perfect for everyone! Will definitely be returning. Service was good. We had a server who had just graduated from the University of St. Andrews. She was friendly and welcoming which was a nice change having just spent 2 nights in Edinburg. The wine list was not very impressive and my date ended up ordering a bottle of wine that resembled Capri-sun. I couldn't even drink it. We started with the oyster pair (HUGE oysters, very creamy), deer tartare - couldn't get through one bite of it and Pig's Head on Toast. Appetizers were not a good sign for the rest of the dinner. However the tomahawk steak was pretty good, lobster was overcooked. Soufflé was pretty good. Would give it a higher rating if not for the food. I think you really come here for the views, the putting green overlooking the 18th on the balcony, some gorgeous views vs. the food.

As I drove up the beautifully manicured drive to Eden Mansion Hotel, I just had that feeling that this was going to be somewhere special... The welcome was warm, the interiors were sumptuous, and the service was second to none. I had afternoon tea at Eden Mansion. This beautiful house really does offer the perfect setting for afternoon tea. The cake stands adorned with delicate sandwiches, scones, cakes, and other treats looked beautiful and tasted delicious. The stars of the afternoon tea selection for me were the Guardbridge plum fool and the ginger cake with wild brambles. Eden Mansion is simply stunning, and would make the most beautiful wedding venue. In a world where my other half and I actually get an opportunity for a child-free night or two, this would most definitely be on my list of locations for a romantic break.

I just returned from a November visit to this resort. I read before my trip some negative reviews…read moreon some other review sites, so I want to provide a different perspective. I majority of the reviews I read about this resort concerned the drafty cottages and the cost of electricity. Obviously November gave us our share of cold weather, and I am happy to say that our cottage was very comfortable. The cottage was freezing when we arrived, but the staff member who showed us around showed us where the radiators were and how to control them as well as providing advice on running them economically. The unit heated up very quickly. The extra cost for electricity at the end of the week was about £50 which was much less than the amounts suggested by other reviewers. We ate at the cottage at least 1 cooked meal per day and kept the cottage comfortably warm. The furniture and layout of the cottage was very nice and provides good accommodation for up to 3 couples. We only ate at the Linsey room 1 night but the experience was very good and I will enjoy memories of that evening for a long time to come. When we made reservations for the meal we were told that we would be seated at a table with other people. When we got there it was a banquet table with about 25 others. The atmosphere was good and we were encouraged to meet other guests. The food was good and then to our surprise an entertainer showed up. The person was a very good singer, singing traditional Scottish tunes as well as being quite the comedian. I may not have signed up for this event if I had known all that was involved, but I can tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Over all this resort was wonderful, and provided us with an extremely relaxing holiday. If I could change anything I would ask that the resort provide a few condiments in the kitchen. Overall I highly recommend this resort.

This hotel is in Kirkcaldy, which ended up being 2 hours outside of Edinburgh. Even though the site stated a 2 room suite, when we got there we got a single room with a double and a child's bed and were told this was what we reserved. The Washer/dryer was strictly for the hotel only, we had to find a laundromat nearby. Additionally, the menus provided showed dinner was from 6:30 pm to 9pm. Whenever we arrived, may it have been 6:45pm or 7pm, we were told dinner was already shutdown. We also had trouble getting back to Kirkcaldy after 7pm. As the city apparently shuts down around 6:30pm. However, if you are going to Scotland to explore and experience the country, do not stay at this hotel. Kirkcaldy is a quiet out of the way town. Be sure that the hotel you choose is actually centered in Edinburgh or the city you want to explore. Scotland was amazing and I do plan on returning.

What a good decision that turned out to be, and what a treat! In addition to excellent, attentive service, we found that the small portions of the entrées still gave us plenty of food. One of us got the small Steak Pie (£6.95), another chose the Lasagne Al Forno (£7.95), and the third chose the evening special (sorry, I don't remember what it was, but it was £6.95). For £21.85, we had a dinner that was delicious and far surpassed the quality of the food we ate at many other restaurants on our trip to the U.K. The value of the food and the service were so good. If I lived anywhere near Edinburgh, I would visit the good people at the Victoria Hotel any time I needed a night away from the kitchen.
