The samosas are delicious, and if you're extra hungry get the chicken 65 as an app. The menu has lots of options so it can be a bit overwhelming. If you want a creamy chicken dish, go for the Methi chicken and garlic naan. If you want a ride dish, the chicken or chicken 65 biryani is delicious. Good Indian food. We ordered the lamb samosas, Chicken 65 and 555, Lamb rogan josh and naan bread. The samosas were better than Taj. These seemed home made and not frozen from an Indian market like Taj. The Chicken dishes were excellent. Just enough heat and spice. The chicken was not dry or overcooked like you sometimes get at other places. The rogan josh was ok. Nothing too special. The prices are a bit steep though. Persis Indian Grill offers a chill but modern ambiance with great food. I've been wanting to visit for some time now and so grateful to have had a delightful experience. Our waiter was patient and answered all our questions with no rush. Only fish for me and hubby as we are pescatarians. There were many options for us to choose. The salmon was very flavorful and I smiling from ear to ear from the cute sauce design on the plate. By the way we was there on a Saturday around 7:30 with no wait time. This place is is hidden gem. Located off Washington Road, the color choices are bold and indulgent. We were created and seated right away with the friendliest of service. DO NOT pass on the Taj Mahal beer or the mango lassi. The lassi is the thickest I have ever had and not overly sweet. We had the roti or boring and chili pineapple chicken for appetizers, not only were the flavors spot on, the serving rivaled a main dish! Every dish that came out was better than the previous dish. What's even better...there are both meat and vegetarian offerings on the menu, they also highlight the meals that are gluten free. I ordered the supposedly vegan options on their menu. Gobi 65, vegetable pakora, tandoori roti and dal tadka. When I got there the host noticed those items weren't vegan since they are putting butter on their roti and in their Dal. I have never been to an Indian restaurant where Dal WASN'T vegan. It's a lentil so it's supposed to be vegan. As a matter of fact this restaurant is INCORRECTLY labeling items on their menu as vegan when it's NOT. I will not eat here again!! read more

We celebrated the Mrs.'s birthday here last night. Started with the Lamb Samosas from the appetizer menu. Seasoned lamb wrapped in pastry and fried. I guess you could think of it as an Indian empenada. It comes with two dipping sauces. One is mint. The other is tamarind. Neither is over whelmed with these flavors though. I like the mint better that the tamarind. Another appetizer we tried was their Gobi Manchuria. It's very much like General Tsos Chicken, but made with cauliflower instead of chicken - but no broccolli. The cauliflower is battered and fried and ends up with a meaty texture. At one point, we thought they had given us chicken by mistake. I ordered Biryani. I thought I ordered lamb Biryani, but the online menu does show lamb as a choice. Maybe I got the goat instead? It was good anyway. Biryani is rice and a choice of meat or vegetable cooked with herbs and spices. I took a chance and ordered it spicy instead of mild. It wasn't too spicy for me, but I have a high tolerance for the heat. I have a bottle of 100% Habanero that I made and I like to put a good squeeze of that on sandwiches - so take my advice with that in mind. The Mrs got lamb vindaloo - mild, not spicy. Again, the online menu shows goat vindaloo, but not lamb. Maybe we got goat? I swear I remember lamb being on the menu in the restaurant. Anyway, vindaloo is meat simmered with potatoes in a flavorful curry sauce. Served with long grain (basmati). Tradition vindaloo is very spicy hot. Unless you like hot stuff, you should order it mild. You'll get some of that spicy goodness without regretting ordering it. For dessert, we got the Carrot Halwa. Finely diced carrot simmered in sweet milk with almond and raisins and then garnished with pistachios. It's dessert and a vegetable! It's sweet but not overly sweet. Ours didn't come with raisins, though. I didn't realize that until I started typing up this review. Maybe the raisins are finely diced as well? I don't think I would have likely it if there were whole raisins in this. It would too much like the Southern side dish we know as carrot salad. Over all, this was a very good experience. The service was very good - but that may be because we were the only people there. This place had been open for only 5 days and it has been only that long since restaurants have been allowed to open after the "shelter in place" order by the governor started to be lifted. A lot of people are still afraid to go out. They offer carryout and delivery from all (or most) of the services that do this. They had several pickups while we were there, so I hope that means they are earning enough during this COVID thing to stay afloat. The only negative I have is the prices. Indian restaurants in this area tend to have prices that are higher than I like. Are there some ingredients that are hard for Indian restaurants to get? We'll definitely be back, just not as often as we would like. read more

Better than what I expected! The place appears clean. And I'm glad because my husband will not go inside any restaurant that appears dirty or dingy. The food tasted amazing!! Even my hubby who does not eat anything without beef it in enjoyed the food I ordered. Mind you, I am not an expert on Indian food. I went out of my box of the usual tandoori chicken to their grilled lamb chops and goat basmati rice. They were delicious! Of course, I always order garlic naan and it passed my tastebuds. The lamb samosa was too gamey tasting for me. It's good they have that tasty green sauce and sweet dark sauce to hide its gaminess. All the spices blended well with a glass of Pinot Noir. My husband liked the Indian beer and the mango smoothie which I ordered for myself. It was too sweet for me. And the new chicken dish I tried was to die for! I now have a replacement to my usual chicken tandoori:) The price of Indian food is never cheap. So expect to spend some money. It is worth the price! read more

First time trying this particular location. I am very versed in Indian food. Nice setting inside & clean. The servers were prompt. Very large menu from appetizers to vegetarian to meat meals. All halal. We had the lamb samosas which were very tasty & then had the aloo(potato) chaat...basically potato & chickpea dish & an order of lamb Biryani & vindaloo chicken & an order of garlic Naan. The flavors of everything g was really good. The rice was made very well I think my only complaint is the food was not served hot...like off the stove hot...only warm. Otherwise everything was good. Needed to ask for ice for my water & the toilet seat in the female latrine was broken...almost fell otherwise I would eat here again. read more

My wife and I lived in the UK for 13 years and got used to extremely good Indian food. It was everywhere, in every town and village (the UK national dish when we were there was Chicken Tikka Masala, after all - true story!) Since moving back to US in 2008, it's been a challenge to find a good Indian place on a par to what we had become accustomed. Northern Virginia, DC, Baltimore, Atlanta, all have fine Indian restaurants but there was always something missing or out of kilter. So, while buying atta flour next door to the restaurant a couple of days ago, we learned Persis was actually open. Tonight we have it a shot (dining in to boot!). We were not disappointed. At. All. I could find no fault in anything at Persis. The decor was colorful and bright, the service was outstanding, decent bar with good Indian beer and the food was fantastic. Some of the best I had in the US and a welcomed addition to the area IMHO. Let's face it: I love heat and when the staff knows what "India Hot" is, chances are we're going to get on. That said, even though they knew this time was different. This heat seemed to be layered atop a symphony of spices that normally get destroyed when going crazy with the chilies and peppers for the sake of making the dish hotter. This tells me the folks in the kitchen know what they're doing. Absolutely fabulous in my book. So looking forward to going again. read more

Persis is our go-to place for Indian food ever since we tried it in the past year. The thing that brings us back is the korma. We lived in the UK for a number of years and really enjoyed the korma we got over there. When we returned to Augusta and tried the local Indian places, the korma was weird at all of them. Then there was Persis...and the korma was just like we remembered. Delicious. That being said, I'm the only one in the family who doesn't order korma, as I prefer more savory and spicy Indian food. I can confirm that the vindaloo is equally good. To be fair, we've never gotten anything we didn't like at this place. The only negative I can say has to do with our takeout orders. We've had container lids at the bottom of the bag bust open on us a few times now. I'm not taking off points from my rating, though--the food and service is just too good! read more

Apparently a few Indian restaurants still exist, Persis was new. We tried it... never again! We figured Persis must be Persian-Indian restaurant --a bit bland, a bit spicy... Wrong! It was peptic ulcer spicy... I have eaten better... same dishes as the previous Indian restaurants, nothing new... it is boring... I mean how much can you eat lamb biryani... the vegetable biryani had no potatoes but paneer vindaloo--I wonder if they gave us the left overs.. sorry Persis you get 2 stars from me. Looking at the other reviews, apparently our experience is unique. The restaurant was almost to capacity when we arrived. The man who seated us was also our server, but he didn't really seem like a server, maybe the manager? We ordered an appetizer and our two entrees, and it took 30 minutes for just our appetizer to arrive. Another ten for our food. The server did not talk to us or check in on us for the entire 30 minutes. I would have given one star if it weren't for the food. The food did taste very good, we ordered korma and Rohan Josh. As advice to the restaurant, please check on your tables and let them know when there is a long wait. read more

HOWEVER, the servers kept ADDING dairy on vegan items and we had to send food back to the kitchen so you need to tell the servers that you want a vegan dish served vegan. Omg I don't even know where to begin...The food is amazing very authentic. The ambience of the restraunt is very beautiful. Walking in you smell a very nice scent of Incense or aroma of herbs and spices of the food being cooked. Everyone is very friendly the food is always delicious.
