a variety of indian food items

If you plan on dining here, I would suggest against that. I think there's a reason why this place was one of the first restaurants to pop up on Yelp's Take Out category. There's two tables for dining in this restaurant with no table service. Any who, I ordered my meal to-go. I placed the order over the phone and it was ready when I got there. The older gentlemen who cashed me out was very nice. The portion could be a little more generous, especially the rice. Normally you would get a 2.1 ratio between rice and entrée of choice but this place has it half and half. Also the spinach in the Saab is blended, it's much better chunky in my opinion. Also they don't have garlic naan at all or Kabobs on the weekdays.

Let me say this before I start this review...I AM NOT AN ADVENTUROUS EATER!!! I can eat the same thing every day for the rest of my life, if it's tasty. A friend of mine coerced me into trying Indian cuisine for the first time here since he had been here before and raved about it. I had my reservations but decided to give it a go!! The owners welcomed me with open arms and explained all the menu items I had questions about. A suggestion about the menu to the owners from me is, that they should give a detailed description of each item on the menu so they won't have to explain the menu each time to new customers or maybe that's a way to interact with the customers. I ended up settling for the Chicken Biryani and Nann. It was a big portion but I did not like this dish at all. It was sweet and the spices wasn't pleasing to my taste buds. I did enjoy the Nann though, I order 3 extra portions. The owner did let me try something else off of the menu at no charge. He even let me keep the original order. I tried the Chicken Marsala the next time. It was better but I wasn't a big fan of it. I had to slowly eat the food because the smell and the taste of the spices made me so nauseous. I'm usually a person that loves worldly spices and ethnic food but I guess I can scratch Indian cuisine off that list. I do want to try the lamb dish they offer here but it's only available on the weekend. I gave this place 4 stars even though I didn't enjoy the food because of the customer service and the owners willing to please their customers at all costs. That's what great business is all about!!!

This place, for my room mates and me, has become the comfort food and special occasion dessert place that we all try to make up reasons to return too. It was a birthday? Oh, we definitely have to go here. Someone passed a class they were taking, we need to go. It is a Wednesday night? We have to go back. Yes, this restaurant really isn't a sit down place but there are two small tables inside (probably reserved for waiting for you food for carry out) and each time we've gone we have been lucky enough to commandeer the table on the left. We share food and get different things each time and, even though I couldn't tell you all that we've tried, everything that we have had from here is delicious. The family that runs and owns Lahore Express is super sweet. They put up with us sitting there and eating and being loud (the only way laughter can be) and even sometimes celebrate whatever brought us there along with us. There is one dessert that you must try, Shiraz Delight. If my ending the review with that sentence could express to you the sheer greatness of this dessert I would. However, I feel like the point wouldn't make it and you might be left thinking, "Well, what made it so good?" Everything. Everything makes it good. It melts in your mouth and really I can't tell you what it is made of. Just try it, ask for it warm--if you get it just out of the oven... shoot. This is a hidden gem in Augusta.

Veggie samosas

I had sort of written off all Indian food in the area on account of being served lasagna at one, having really awful mild greasy food at another and mediocre service to top it all off. Thankfully my desire to eat Indian/Pakistani food is so strong, I forced myself to try this one last place in the area and I'm so glad I did! This is strictly a takeout place so take that into account when planning your meal. They do have some stools in the waiting area but I really don't recommend trying to eat on the thin crooked pieces of wood they have against the wall and take it home instead. I called in an order and showed up promptly at the agreed upon time but they needed a few extra minutes to I got a chance to take in the tiny waiting room and listen to the pots getting scraped and the beeping of the staff's cellphones going off. I took comfort in knowing that they weren't responding 'cause I could hear the reminders to check their phones going off as well. Now that being said, I was so impressed with what we ordered. In an effort to get a good feel for what this place offered, we ordered: 1. dum gosht roll 2. aloo masala roll 3. veggie samosas 4. chicken biryani The first thing my hubby said was, "Wow, those are big for samosas" so right off the bat, it looked like we were on a path to something good. They were big, flaky, spiced just right and fell apart in your mouth. I was so happy to see that they were too greasy or even needed sauce to mask some mediocre flavor like I usually did in the past. The dum gosht roll was not at all what I was expecting and that's a good thing. The meat was braised, spiced well, complemented the yogurt, and veggie mix and was oh so plentiful. With each bite I took out of the sandwich, more beef fell out 'cause it was just packed in there. The aloo masala roll had to be have been my favorite entree by far. I'm not a vegetarian and actually stay far away from most veggie dishes but oh my gosh, I would order this again and again any day. It's spiced potatoes and veggies which doesn't sound that great or special but when the right combination of spices and tender potatoes just kick your taste buds awake, you listen. I haven't had good potatoes like this since living in on the west coast and it made me feel nostalgic for a nanosecond. I have yet to try the biryani in its entirety yet but I did try a few bites and I'm impressed with the large chunks of chicken that got in the way of my saffron rice. The rice was plentiful, meat was tender, and there was a good ratio of rice to chicken and I'm happy to say that even on day 2, the rice didn't try out. :-) This is clearly a place that takes pride in their food and stick to what they know instead of spreading themselves too thin. I'd come back for a wrap and would feel good knowing it's healthier than most fast food options out there. 60/2014

Chicken Biranyi. Nom nom

Great, friendly service and decent prices for what you get. I got chicken biranyi. Very good proportion. I loved the rice. The chicken was a little dry but not bad. It came with a good yogurt sauce. My friends both got wraps. They were very messy but both liked them a lot. It was like $23 for all three of us so that was awesome :)

Chicken tikka masala, naan and palak paneer
Kevin S.

Pretty good take out indian food. We ordered the palak paneer, chicken tikka masala and a side of naan (the order came with two sides of rice). The paneer and masala sauces were a little soupier than I have had, been still solid. Will definitely go back.

The saag paneer was runny like a sauce with no flavor. I've had better off of Trader Joe's frozen entry.

Good, reliable Pakistani food for when we're missing home. I feel like we always end up crazing it on Mondays when they're closed!

This is going to be long winded. Hang in there!…read more Absolutely the best meal I've had in several years and likely the best piece of fish I've ever eaten in my life!!!! I'll get back to that! Ok, so I'm in town all week installing a new CNC fiber laser cutting machine tool at Stoll Fireplace. I'm a foodie, but I nearly never write reviews. I almost didn't come to meet Danish and experience his food because of the two bad Yelp reviews. (In spite of all the great ones) I'd like to address those bad reviews before I make MY actual review. First, that review about people dressed casual? Bullshhh. Excuse my language. I'm covered (literally) head to toe in oil, grease, and grime. Wearing a dirty Moog synthesizer T shirt that says "presets are for the weak", torn up Carhartt pants, and steel toe work boots. I was apprehensive showing up like this. Worked too late to go to the hotel and shower/change, but was really craving Indian food. Saw the sign on the door mentioning attire and was slightly apprehensive about going in. Maybe it's because I haven't shaved in over a year, maybe it's because it's his place and he can do what he wants. My opinion is that this reviewer had something else going on other than their attire. Maybe already drinking, maybe just douchy? Who knows. It's irrelevant. My server seated me immediately and treated me no different than if I was wearing a $5000 suit. I can not for sure say you won't be denied service if you come in looking rough as hell, but bottom line is I got served looking like a coal miner that just got off work. And at the very end of their posted hours. Second, the lady that said her food was cold?? Again, hogwash. No doubt in my mind that this person obviously has not experienced the world outside of Greenwood SC and isn't accustomed to how other cultures communicate. Have a little humility in your verbal/body language and Danish will treat you like royalty!! I'm certain she got offended by his tone or something he said. I'll cover more of that in my review. So here it is: Clean upscale atmosphere. Smells like heaven when you walk in the door. (He grinds his own spices!!) Server greeted me immediately when I walked in and escorted me to a table. We discussed wines and I tried a new Cab that I haven't had that was delicious. Danish came to my table and asked my what kind of food I liked. This started a long conversation about samosas, world travel, and more, ending in Danish not letting me order extra Samosas since one came free with the meal. I'll admit I was initially a touch put off that he outright wouldn't let me order two extras, but I'm so glad he didn't. (He ended up giving me an extra one free! I've never had beef in Samosas, but holy cow are they good and a lot of food! I would have been full before my entree had he let me order two extras and eat 3. Ordered the special on the servers recommendation. Crispy flounder (or tilapia, I got flounder) with breaded and fried eggplant and chicken curry. (Beef curry option) Plus an order of garlic naan. I am not kidding when I say this is best meal I've had in years! I've eaten at a lot of nice places and have paid 3 times as much for dinners that didn't hold a candle to tonights. They give you a knife, but there was nothing in the meal that didn't give easily to the side of my fork. The beef Samosas were fried crunchy and served with an excellent chutney with a decent kick! They went very well together. Like a party in my mouth! I could have eaten three, but wouldn't have had room for all the other deliciousness!! (Thank you Danish for refusing to let me order 2 more as appetizers and for throwing a second one on my plate!) The fish was just right. Lightly breaded, flaky, and seriously flavorful!! Best piece of fish I think I've ever eaten in my life! I do not have words for how good that tasted. The eggplant was equally amazing. The sauce on the plate went perfectly with everything. I enjoyed every bite. The garlic naan was good, but the onion chutney that came with it was better than anything I've ever had at any other Indian place!! So full of flavor! The curry was great. Very traditional with a little less kick than some places. (Perfect for people that think most Indian food is too spicy) Danish is going to make it mildish/medium spicy unless you request otherwise. I could have taken it a lot hotter, but certainly understand trying to avoid having food sent back for being too spicy. I am eager to return now that he knows me and ask him to kick it up a few notches!! It was still delicious. Their rice is also very traditional but like the rest of his food, with a hint extra. Danish is beyond passionate about his food. As I said to him, it's an art form. He is an artist. If I lived closer, I'd probably eat here every week and invite him to my wedding. If you like good food, tuck in your ego for two seconds and come try some of the best food you've had in your life! A million stars

Was pleasantly surprised at the atmosphere and had a relaxing and quiet evening. If planning dinner it is a must to call ahead and make reservations and see what is available. I was sadly disappointed that most of the food was out. So we had a couple of drinks an a few appetizers... which as you can figure where great since we were starving... Chalked it up to an off night but would return to give this one another chance... If you enjoy Indo / PAC cuisine.. you will enjoy this pleasantly quiet and romantic location.... Also be advised that Italian food is no longer on the menu...
