We arrived early at the train station for our train so we decided to look for a spot to grab a bite to eat. What a gem of a place. We had a wonderful meal and was able to sit and catch our breath after a long day of walking. It was perfect. The restaurant was dimly lit, very romantic and the food was delicious. I had the NY strip with a serving of veggies, it was cooked perfectly. The veggies were delicious, seasoned and cooked well. My girlfriend was in the mood for a burger and she really enjoyed it. The burger came with Gruyère cheese, bacon, avocado and some aioli sauce. Our server was excellent, perfectly attentive and took care of all our needs. I highly recommend this spot. read more

Honestly really unimpressed. The portions are small, the food itself isn't that great, and everything is so overpriced simply because it's near grand central station/times square. Went here for lunch, and the cheapest entree was $22 and the portions are not adequate as I was still rather hungry afterwards. We got the chicken pot pie and the cavatelli with burrata. The chicken pot pie was too soupy for my taste and could have used more actual stuff along with more seasoning. The cavatelli with burrata wasn't bad but i cannot say the price of $26 for a meal without any protein is good whatsoever. Spacious down to earth restaurant located across from one of the Grand Central Terminal exits. Prices seemed reasonable as a group of us colleagues came after a weekend work event. Everyone loved the coffee and enjoyed their meals. Loved the options and portion sizes! Some of us felt that the check took a while, but sometimes servers observe us deep in convo and try not to disturb us. I did notice that at a table of mostly women, some of us asked for the check in the middle of the table and the server provided the check at the end of the table, but towards the only male. Service is terrible. General manager speaks to whoever, however he wants. I ordered a salad at 11:45, they didn't tell me the kitchen is closed and transitioning over and that orders won't be put in til 12 when kitchen starts lunch. When I canceled my salad bc I was in a rush to hop on a train to Islip, the gm came and started shouting the conversation he wanted to have with me from 15+ ft walking towards me interrupting multiple guests dining experience. It seems like you don't have your staff communicating kitchen transitions. That is a leadership problem, that is a front of house problem. As a restaurant owner (In Texas) where hospitality is king, I wouldn't even hire this GM to wash my dishes. read more

Food was surprisingly good. We got blueberry pancakes, omelet, potatoes, & toast. The blueberry pancakes were prob the best blueberry pancakes I've ever had. Long story short. PLEASE BE AWARE that: **everyone is required to order a breakfast plate by restaurant policy*, which I was told by my server. MOST IMPORTANT: This policy was not printed or listed on the menu at all. It was a super unpleasant experience at my first diner experience in New York. I walked in with my friend and she was craving pancakes because she was travelling to America but I am not. I usually skip breakfast so I decided to get a cup of hot chocolate to start my day. My friend ordered her plate of pancakes. We did not plan to share, nor we did not. I told the server that I only wanted a cup of hot chocolate. The server told me that, *"by restaurant policy, everyone is required to order a breakfast."* I was like what the, there is NO written minimum amount to spend nor this "policy" was not listed on the meum at all. I told him that I do not eat breakfast and that I was not hungry at all. I just need a cup of hot chocolate. He insisted on telling me this was company policy. I asked if a side of house salad counts. He said "ok , but I am not your server", and he would ask if he could do it. I was like, what the, you aren't even my server and you trying to place the order for me? I have never experienced this situation happening in any American dining place before. This place made me, "Wow"? Anyway, he came back and told me that he could place an order for an (overpriced) side of house salad and a cup of chocolate for me. The only positive about this experience was that my friend truly enjoyed her overpriced pancakes, that's it. I was not happy that the menu did not even list the minimum amount to spend, nor the policy of minimum order for each person. Shamed of you guys for having over 4 stars on Google review. And this place deserves less than 3 stars on Yelp as well. I will never recommend this place to any of my friends traveling to New York until they fix their menu. My friends, please avoid this place and find a better place for a dining experience, until they clarify their policy on their menu. Stop making your customers feel trapped or tourist trapped, or confusing, or what so ever. read more

The older women at the host stand made me extremely uncomfortable and awkward because she got an attitude and tried to have a mug off. I asked to be seated and she told us to wait. I saw tables opened but assumed they didn't have enough staff, that was until someone else walked in and got seated immediately. I asked how long the wait was after 15 minutes and she stared at me, mocked my voice and made me feel like I was being weird - asking for a table at the host stand. We've been coming here for years: it's such a convenient location, the service and food are excellent; and everyone can enjoy its classic New York vibe. Today we met our Norwegian nieces for brunch, one of whom has Celiac's, while the other is striving to be gluten free. Both decided on the Farm Fresh Eggs and Corned-beef hash with home fries as the starch. One niece requested cheddar instead of goat cheese but ended up with goat cheese anyway. The other asked about gluten-free toast, but surprisingly it was not available. Nevertheless they both enjoyed their dishes. My wife ordered her favorite, the Challa French Toast and I opted for the berry-laden Belgian waffle, having admired it longingly from afar on several occasions. Both were excellent but not the ultimate best we've ever had (that would be at Cafe d'Alsace on the Upper East Side). All in all a great place to meet up with facility and friends where everyone will likely find something they like. Vegans, however may feel slighted though; for example there's no non-dairy milk option. Those who like to make a lot of alterations/substitutions to standard menu items will likely be disappointed. read more

The brunch menu was the only one available at the time we came (2:30pm) however our waiter was very accommodating and graciously allowed us to order chicken tenders and fries. They were delicious! The brunch menu did have a great selection; just wasn't what we were looking for. We paired our "snack" with 2 classic glass bottles of Diet Coke (beware $4 for 8oz). Perishing Square is in the heart of Midtown East right near Grand Central and offers great American food. Me and my girlfriend got a lot of different types of food Shrimpscargots - Shrimp baked with lemon. We had Sunday brunch there, the food was delicious and served quickly. The waiter, however wasn't the most attentive. We asked for water and he either didn't tell his helper and completely forgotten. We had to asked the helper who brought our food for water and it was done immediately. Our waiter never once came to check on us or asked about our food. This was our first stop after getting a ride into the city. We chose it for the convenience of location, & because it was attractive from the outside. My daughter & I were attired in travel comfort, while the rest of the patrons were more elegantly dressed. We felt out of place. The food was good, but not at all fancy, and prices within reason for NYC. Service was lovely. Then we left to visit The Summit, where we were told they didn't check bags. So we thought we'd check if the restaurant might hold our bags for us while we toured the building. They could not, as they were closing too early. HOWEVER- the manager broke out her phone & helped us find a storage facility, which was very nearby at a deli, & reasonably priced. She took the time to help us solve a problem that was percent NOT HER PROBLEM. And this type of kindness is why NYC is the best city in the world. What a great first place to go when arriving in the City. It is literally across the street from Grand Central Station. It has a fabulous casual vibe. Every table is spacious. The food at our table was great: the salmon burger is so large. The Waldorf Salad is unique and absolutely delicious. We were impressed with our server who got all our orders right. The place was buzzing, lots people (presumably workers in midtown) the place seems like it had lots of energy. The food was good but not memorable. We had waffles pancakes and a burger. The dinner menu is very limited and the special of the day was a Talapia!! Really? Talapia is a special??? We had burgers and at gnocchi to which I need also added some shrimp. The gnocchi was dry and way too much parma cheese was added to it on top. Overall, a decent place with great location for some after work appetizers, but not really if you want a good meal read more
