Atmosphere is really cool and interesting. Kind of feels like an old throwback to eating at a traditional New York diner. Menu is consists of classic American breakfast options such as waffles and pancakes, eggs Benedicts, beef and hash, etc. However, from a food perspective, it certainly doesn't live up to its appearance. I ordered the Salmon eggs Benedict and while not bad, it's definitely not great. The Hollandaise sauce tasted kind of sour both the English muffin and Salmon tasted kind of old. Prices were a bit pricey for the quality, though it is midtown so what did I expect. Ate here at 5 pm on a Thursday night. Has been used for lots of movie and tv-show scenes, so a fun place to visit for a bite, or simply just enjoy a drink at the bar area (quite a few people did this; probably after a tough work day). Located directly across from Grand Central station. Prices are a bit higher than I would expect for fairly standard menu items, but the quality of the food makes up for that. I popped in here after an exhausting day exploring lower Manhattan after coming off of the subway in Grand Central. It looked like a cute place and it was in the perfect location for me to get into. The atmosphere is great here, you can definitely get your dose of people watching. The decor and set up are cute. The staff was super friendly and attentive. There is plenty of seating here. The food on the other hand was nothing to leave a great impression on, the price was very affordable though. I wouldn't highly recommend going out of your way to have a meal here but it was worth the money spend to fill my belly up a bit and let my feet relax while continuing my trip. read more

Simple but nice! We rushed to this place on Sunday to get our casual breakfast. The place was big enough that we didn't stand in line- we were seated right away. The waitress was accommodating and helpful. Food came fast- for us, it was essential because we were rushing to the airport. I really don't have that impactful a review to contribute here as I was having a fast work meeting over breakfast there. It is a cool, only-in-Manhattan location right across from Grand Central Terminal and under Park Avenue. Points for that. Once you enter the place, it's nice enough and certainly spacious, although I have to admit it has that Cheesecake Factory vibe about it. The glam veneer just felt a little too packaged since I would imagine this place attracts business folks and tourists more than locals. Food was not my focus - but I did try the $8 McCann's Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal with Fresh Berries and Bananas. I don't know what steel cut means, but it sounds brutal with a hint of laborer exploitation and maybe a whiff of some Dublin ale about it. Nope, it was just hearty old-fashioned oatmeal in a soup serving bowl. And for $8, I would have expected a neck rub and a manicure along with the fruit. However, this is deep in the heart of deal-making Manhattan after all, so I didn't grimace when I saw the check. FOOD - 3 stars...it was oatmeal...overpriced, image-conscious oatmeal AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...the line between glam and cheesy is oh-so-fine, don't you think? While prices are average for a midtown spot, Pershing Square is better served as a hook for gullible tourists rather than a quality brunch destination. The buttermilk pancakes ($12) were highly recommended by our waiter, but the quality is merely diner-esque. The texture was soft and fluffy, but that quickly gave an unpleasant saltiness. The Belgian Waffle ($12) was overbaked and soggy. No amount of butter and syrup could save that disaster! On a positive note, the side order of corn beef hash (topped with scallion) was tasty and worth the extra five bucks. As much as I enjoy atmosphere and decor, food quality is what makes or breaks a brunch experience. Anyhow, in the middle of Pershing is - aptly titled the Pershing Square Cafe. Located right under the Park Ave viaduct and what historians state was once a tourism guide. Because of its location (across Grand Central, close to the UN, not that far from Times Square, etc.), it's a popular place for tourists and work colleagues alike to enjoy a meal or after-work drinks. I came here with one of my college buddies for dinner and drinks. The food is standard American and we both ordered burgers with fries. The veggie burger was pretty good in my opinion. The prices are standard for Manhattan dining/drinks. Funny story about this place was that I came here like 7 years ago while in college as part of an all-day interview for my former employer. They booked the entire place for speed networking and dinner. They basically hinted to me and a few of my other fellow interviewees back then we'd get job offers. Really slow service. 1 waitress is not enough to tend a cafe. The location is brilliant. Constructed out of empty space under a bridge across from Grand Central. Half of Pershing Square is a cafe, the other half a restaurant. Outdoor seating available. Honestly I was tempted to give this place a try after seeing New Yorkers lounge out with their wines and cocktails but I ended up sitting in the cafe as the honking, engine noises, and wind with grit particles outside is just hella annoying. Their bakery display is one of the saddest displays I've ever seen. Old and sad looking pieces with poor lighting. Had their smoothie which only comes in berry flavor. Smoothie was freshly made and good- you could taste all the strawberry and blackberry seeds. We came here for breakfast after an overnight flight to NYC. Location was super convenient - across from Grand Central terminal and our hotel. We were seated promptly by an efficient, if not very friendly, hostess. Our waitress was very friendly and very efficient. Food... seemed like it had to have been just sitting in bins in the back waiting for order tickets to come in. There wasn't even 5 minutes between placing our order and the food showing up. Scrambled eggs were a bit runny, bacon was just ok. Potatoes were really good. The jam they give you with your toast was delicious. Overall it did the trick but it's not a place I would choose to visit in the future. My husband wanted to go in because the restaurant was apparently in some movie. Had brunch here 3 weeks ago, and again last week. Happy to see covid safety measures were adhered to-temperatures taken, and masks and gloves were worn by servers. Patrons were generously spaced out. Leonardo was our waiter both times we dined here. Our coffee cups were refilled several times without being asked. Coffee was surprisingly strong and robust, not the typical watered down diner coffee. 1st visit -Farm Fresh Eggs: 2 eggs over easy & 2 slices of bacon was perfect diner breakfast, although portions could be a little bigger! Home fries were delicious, usually i'll just pick at it, but i finished everything on my plate. -Omelete was cheesy and delicious. 2nd visit: -Salmon benedict: Yum, the sauce and poached eggs complemented the salty salmon perfectly. - Seafood cobb salad: One huge shrimp and bits of crab meat in this Cobb. Satisfying but overpriced at $22. -Brioche French toast: i think there were 4 or 5 pieces topped with slices of banana and strawberries. This was our "dessert" and was shared amongst us. Needed some breakfast, something fierce. I was with some impatient people so chose the nearest joint. I went in with low expectations. Walking in I saw a lot orange juice being passed around so I'd be remised not to partake. And it is fresh squeezed, slightly sour which is expected. I ordered scrambled eggs with toast, bacon, and home fries. Toast was likely Home Pride or some other soulless sliced bread that has been sitting on a shelf for months. It was flat, lifeless and tasteless. Eggs were your standard hotel buffet style. Overcooked, creating that rubbery skin with a bland egg flavor. Home fries were decent slightly crispy with a soft center, best thing on the plate. Bacon was crispy and boring. My friend ordered the pancake with banana. It was not fluffy, but thin and spongey so all the syrup got absorbed quickly. No real flavor other than the banana. I will say that they did provide real maple syrup, which was nice. One star might seem a bit harsh. But I could have made something better at home for cheaper. So why bother with a place like this? If you can make decent toast and eggs, yes you should avoid this place and places like it. Furthermore, NYC has infinitely better breakfast joints to visit. Even a food cart would be more worthwhile especially considering the price point. read more
