The place was hopping on a recent Friday morning, but so was Jordan, the server. He had an infectious smile for everyone as he asked what they were drinking. I was solo that day and when he brought my coffee, he delivered orders for two other tables all from the same serving tray! I had a two-egg omelette with green peppers and onions plus a pumpkin muffin. This came from the senior menu and was perfect in taste, size and price. This was a perfect start to my day. read more

My husband and I decided to grab a quick dinner at Perkins after our long road trip to Kearney. The restaurant had a nice size dinner crowd, but it wasn't crowded or super busy. Our server never introduced herself, seemed a bit disorganized but was friendly. We both ordered the Country Fried Steak platter, one with sunny side up eggs and the other with scrambled, hash browns, and Belgian Waffles. My husband also ordered a side of bacon. The food was all done well, the fried steak a bit hard to cut, but still tasty with the country style cream gravy. The sweet tea tasted a bit off and was the only thing we didn't really like. For dessert we ordered both the Strawberry & Cream Cheese Crispers, and the Caramel Apple Crispers. The crispers were like dessert eggrolls. They weren't overly sweet, and a really good dessert. If you're looking for nothing fancy but a place with something for everyone Perkins is the place. read more

Hadn't been here in years because on our last visit the food and service was horrible. We did eat at the North Platte Perkins about a year ago and the food was good. We got a cheeseburger, side of onion rings and a steak medium rare with mash with brown gravy and green beans. They didn't have baked potatos. The onion rings and burger were good. The steak was overcooked and the gravy was super thick and tasted like canned. They did compensate for part of the meal. We will never eat there again. read more

A nice lunch break on a I-80 road trip. Place was moderately busy and was adequately staffed for the lunch 11am -2 pm time frame, I asked for a table away from everyone, if possible, with my laptop as need to catch up on some work which I was accommodated with. Had tomato basil soup with the meatloaf over mashed potatoes done very nicely and was fresh. Server was very polite and her tip reflected her great service. The coffee was terrific. The banana cream pie failed and was mentioned at check out. It was then scratched from the bill. A nice gesture. read more

I want to leave a 3-1/2 star but can't. Seated immediately. Server came to our table quickly thereafter. Drinks and food arrived promptly. When ordering drinks I, as always, ordered Dr Pepper. He started to walk away, turned towards me and said 'mr pibb ok?'NO NO NO! They are NOT the same. Never have been never will be. Simply say 'I'm sorry we don't have that" then show me on the menu what you do have. Food was good. My sandwich was dry but most clubs are. I didn't order any side and he seemed perplexed. Some people don't eat as much as you might think so don't be alarmed when they simply don't want a side. I noticed several time there were people waiting to pay yet the hostess was more focused on new arrivals and seating them than taking care of those that are ready to leave. We've been increasingly disappointed in Perkins as a chain. It used to be reliably good, but after several bad experiences in different towns, we look elsewhere. Seems like poor management and hard-to-find employees have led to less than satisfactory service, cleanliness and food. read more

The food here was good, but I have to give it a lower rating due to the service. And even then, I put this on management vs. my server as she was servicing the entire room BY HERSELF! She was constantly apologizing for being so delayed at my table, but I clearly understood "why" as did two guys at the booth across from me who I heard comment on the same as she was apologizing to them too. If you want to set your employees up for failure (or poor tips resulting in employee turnover) that's the recipe for doing just that. We walked in and were seated for a table of 5, and got menus right away. It looked like there was one server working the seven or so tables that were already there. There were a couple other waitstaff but they were doing their closing tasks (filling the shakers, sweeping, refilling the jelly caddies). This was about 2:30pm and one of the servers even brought out a vacuum. By this point we had been sitting for close to 10-15 mins without drinks or someone taking our order. I eventually asked the server who was sweeping if she would be able to take our order and she told us that she would not since she was not taking tables and it was not her section. Some nights you might get an actually pretty killer breakfast burger; others you'll find a lukewarm California Benedict & a pile of barely browned hash that makes me look tan. Pretty good for what it is. It's your run of the mill pedestrian chain diner. Service was acceptable, food came out in a reasonable amount of time. when we first got our food there was a giant brown hair in the skillet meal as we were eating, we ordered shrimp with our meal and never got it till the end, i asked for my steak to be medium well ; but it was medium rare. I wasn't officially a fan until grouper appeared on their menu. The atmosphere feels like a cross between a middle school cafeteria and a senior retirement home dining center but I can't deny that the food here is solid and especially the pies and gigantuan muffins. Also, at last check it was open 24 hours, so it's nice to have someplace that you can walk into at 9:50 PM and not have the waitstaff give you dirty looks because they're closing in 10 minutes. Or to have someplace to go to at 3 AM because you're in a terrible mood and ravenously hungry. Even though this is a chain, it's franchised so some locations are better than others. Excellent experience today! It was 3:45 on Sunday afternoon and I know the mid shift for many restaurants after the Sunday rush can be rough, but this Perkins in Kearney Nebraska was neat, had clean tables and carpets, and ready. I was seated within minutes, and the server greeted me immediately for drink order. Their menus were attractive with lots of choices at good prices, and I chose a breakfast skillet with pot roast on a bed of fried potatoes with scrambled egg and cheese on top...a great brunch choice. At the recommendation of the server I added french toast for 99 cents more. Food came out hot and perfectly flavoured. My server, Esperanz, had outstanding "dining room attentiveness" checking on up to 7-8 tables in 3 dining sections, and staying alert to greet and seat new guests. It's a chain and that sucks, I also have to agree with David A. about the atmosphere feeling like a cross between middle school cafeteria and senior retirement home... Showing up after the bar closes (thank god for it being 24 hours), being with friends who where ex-staff (and who would still go there), puking in the toilets, eating my drunk eggs and bacon. Normally I dread coming here because the service is so slow and people normally are super loud however our server Sam was exceptional, he brought us our food with urgency and remained calm during busy hours. Came here for pie and ice cream one night. It's your typical Perkins but it's pretty decent. We had apple pie with ice cream and then a side order of french fries (to dip in the vanilla ice cream of course!) Everything was great. I think that pie options are limited in Kearney so this fits the bill. read more

Items were missing and then skillet was made with egg whites instead of an over easy egg, french toast was barely grilled, and only one of the two pie slices we ordered was correct. Maybe because it's only 5 in the morning, however, the staff was so warm and welcoming, even to two rough looking travelers, and the food was absolutely amazing, AND an amazing price!!!! After honoring stay-at-home directives, I looked forward to relaxing with friends and a meal at the Kearney Perkins Restaurant. I felt comfortable that the directives required workers to wear masks. Unfortunately, two male waiters were not wearing their masks correctly. One wore the mask over his mouth but under his nose. The other wore his mask on his chin. I thanked my waitress who wore her mask correctly, as did the hostess. I mentioned the incorrect mask wearing waiters as I checked out and was told she had mentioned it to them as others had complained as well. The restaurant was filled with older residents who by their age are at high risk. I think it was totally disrespectful of the waiters to not wear their masks correctly. Perkins management should have taken action against their employees for potentially spreading a lethal virus to the customers. I will not be visiting this establishment again anytime soon unless action is taken. read more

We were there during the pm hours of 9-26. Hostess completely ignored us upon entering - walked by us 3 times without saying anything. Finally got seated. Waited 15 minutes before waitress responded to our table of 4. Took our order - waited a good 30 minutes for our food - salad was brought the same time as our meal. Waitress handed the food over the divider instead of coming around to the table. - your waitresses need to be trained on proper waitress technique. The first waitress that took our order sat down on the side with another customer and talked for over 15 minutes. Another table of 4 next to us was also very upset with the service - ordered fish, and made the comment to us that they probably had to go catch it first. On the positive side - when we DID get our food - it was good. I really would rate the service, but it was SO poor it does not desire a score. read more

I got the build your own that consisted of 2 sunnyside eggs, 2 sausage links, wheat toast and Hashbrowns.. food wasn't too bad the hash Browns were undercooked. Cost was pretty affordable for 2 of us to eat there Service - the lady who sat us at our booth was friendly. She stated it was her 1st day. I don't remember her name but she was great. We have been on the road to Denver and pulled in to what we thought was a great restaurant. Perkins needs to close the location. The food was horrible and the service was below a 1. Very rude staff and not trained to be in the food industry. Our table had no napkins , silverware. We have 2 babies and asked for 2 high chairs they tried to seat us in a booth and was annoyed they had to move us. Why would you order a omelette (Perkins specialty) and expect a slice of kraft cheese on top instead is shredded cheese in the omelette!!! Very lazy is our conclusion for the staff and management. Struggled to find something not fast food in Nebraska. Decided to stop here. It was about 5pm, ordered a chicken pot pie, they were already out. I ordered a bowl of soup, it was a pretty small bowl but at least the soup was good. Place is clean, staff is friendly. Portion size is a little small. Person I was with ordered turkey dinner and the turkey was so dry he choked on it. I don't think we will be eating at a Perkins again read more

Horrible experience. rude hostess, waiter didn't write order down came back and asked 3 times what we ordered asked for different server, when the 1st server brought our salad out the forks were in the salads, he then took them out and placed them on the dirty table with ranch on the forks. At this point we still had only got two of our four drunk orders. Got our entree order wrong and then didn't get a chance to ask for a Togo box or receive our check, had to go to cashier and tell them where we were sitting to pay. I partake in many KCT plays and the cast and I like to go and eat at Perkins in there back room. Our waitress; Maria was so nice and really made sure that we were accommodated!! I did however eat some chicken strips and a piece of Chocolate Pie - and I then felt sick to my stomach later at home. But overall my experience was extremely pleasant. I just probably wouldn't recommend the chicken strips. read more
