Our visit to Cunninghams On The Lake was appalling. The owner/manager was using profanity (mainly the "F" word) while talking with other men, loud enough that everyone nearby -- including kids -- could hear it. When my husband respectfully asked him to tone it down, the owner actually walked around the bar (where we were seated) to confront him and insulted him, calling him self‑righteous and that he wasn't apologizing for his language. As customer's were leaving they stopped to tell my husband that he was right in asking this man to be aware of where and what words he was using while women and children were dining. What owner/manager thinks this is beneficial for his business?? If he treats the customers as such how on earth does he treat the employees?? I am so sorry for the young ladies that have to work for this man. I've never seen a business owner behave with such arrogance and disrespect toward paying customers. Cunningham's on the Lake We're visiting family friends who love this place, so we were excited to try it. Visually, it's a great spot--beautiful inside and out, an amazing patio, lots of TVs, and an impressive bar with 48 beers on tap plus beer flights. Unfortunately, during our visit, both the food and service fell short. We started with the pork belly bites. They were okay, but the texture wasn't what we're used to--we typically prefer them cooked a bit more. We also ordered the crab cakes, which came as three large pieces on a bed of lettuce (basically a big house salad). After a few bites, we realized they were ice cold. We let the bartender know and they were sent back, but they came out ice cold again. To their credit, they removed the item from our bill, which we appreciated. We then ordered a burger. The patty was very thick and had potential, but the fries were ice cold. Service slowed at this point--it took a long time to get ketchup or any follow-up. We noticed staff eating in a booth behind us while two employees behind the bar appeared busy, which was disappointing. The beer selection is excellent, but my Dirty Shirley tasted off. I switched to a Tito's and Sprite, but it still didn't taste right--likely flat soda that hadn't been changed. Overall, the patio and beer selection are highlights, but the execution on food and service missed the mark on this visit. Based on this experience, I'd give it 2 stars. We picked this because we wanted steak. First we ordered our drinks. Wanted to have a couple sips before ordering. Another sever brought our drinks since our server wasn't old enough. OK. My Husband then received the Tall beer but he ordered the smaller (pint). We had to physically wait on ourselves and to take the large beer back. Server cones to once again take order. We still didn't have the drink situation fixed. Drinks came. Server comes and we tell her we just received our drinks and said "Please give us a minute". When we were ready....at least 20 minutes later, she was busy mingling with the boys up by the bar and didn't come back to take our order. By this time we were so ticked off we asked for our bill and left. We had planned on ordering 2 orders of the Filet Medallions...looked yummy. Their loss. They need to hire mature people who really want to work and make good money! We are excellent tippers as well, especially if you get the service you want. There were 5 customers at the bar and 2 booths of 2 people beside ours. We're talking early...not late. We arrived at 3:30 and in the end we were charged for the biggest beer. Would NOT recommend and wish we had red the previous review. Very disappointing. Need a better Manager too as we called to let them know we were charged incorrectly. Came here for a late lunch while visiting Kearney. Location was gorgeous and interior had such a good feel to it. Service was friendly! I got the steak quesadilla which was okay. It only had steak, cheese, and mushrooms so there wasn't much to it. I also got a side of the loaded baked potato soup which was good. read more

I don't understand it. Half the time they have ten staff members hanging at the bar neglecting customers. They sit there and just talk and goof around. I get it most of them college students. I Just sit at the bar. Customers had to come ask them for things because the servers haven't been around. Been here multiple times because it's close to the hotels. I'm not picky with food but just usually order a steak medium rare. Always comes out well done. Ambiance is great. Great place for a beer or hanging by the lake. Great location. read more

My husband and I sat at the bar for beer and meals. We were given a printed menu of beer on tap, but several on the menu were not available, so by the time I struck out on three I tried to order, we were instructed to scan the QR code on menu for what is truly available. The barmaid who started to take care of us, and was going to bring me a sample of a beer, weirdly abandoned us for other customers and another bartender ended up taking care of us. A lot of staff hanging out at one side of the bar area and not enough attention paid to serving customers. Another miss mark on service is the server who brought our food to us. She roughly set the plates down and in the process the au jus from my husband's plate spilled onto his clothing. She did a very quick drop and run. My fav is the steak medallions with the grilled veggies. Everything was fantastic! We slid right in towards the back with a great view of the lake while still sitting inside! We tried the cheese curds, steak bites, and pork belly, all were great, my favorite was the pork belly! I had the blue cheese burger, I loved that the blue cheese was real crumbles and not the sauce, but the burger itself wasn't great, kinda burnt, dry, and not seasoned. They do take reservations, which I always recommend but the restaurant is HUGE! There was so many servers and they were all helping each other out, we never went without! A late night snack for two before turning in at our hotel was what we came in for on a Monday night - an hour before closing. We shared a Dijon Chicken sandwich plate which came with battered/seasoned french fries. I also ordered a House Caesar side salad. The Dijon chicken was a little dry, no juiciness left but I liked the charring on it. It could have used a little heavier application of the dijon sauce or the addition of some mayonnaise on the bun. The Caesar salad had the usual ingredients except they added white onion slivers. Didn't think that worked well with the rest of the salad ingredients. The Root Beer and the IPA I ordered (Kinkaider Death from Above) were fine and we drank our glasses dry. The servers are well trained l, attentive and make good suggestions when asked. We ordered the combination skewers and a garden salad. Highly recommend the jalapeño bacon chicken which is chunks of chicken wrapped in fresh jalapeño and bacon and grilled. So flavorful and not too spicy. The filet skewer is also delicious, but they serve it medium rare which was too rare for my taste but they were very tender. They also have good locally brewed beers. Special shout out for the Nectar Fairy from La Vista Brewing- a tasty hazy IPA. If the weather is nice, they have a great patio overlooking the lake and if it's chilly they have fire tables! Came here with our family as a group of 8. We came in the evening and there was a quick wait of 10 minutes. Service was great and food was served quickly. Food was fantastic! We shared steak bites and the dipping sauce complimented the bites well. We devoured all our dishes. The bacon burger is thick, juicy, and the bun was fresh. The fries were seasoned to perfection. We always eat at Cunningham's when traveling through Kearney. The food is always top-notch, the outdoor patio is beautiful (and pet friendly) and the service is always above and beyond. I loved the firecracker salmon with mango sauce, and my husband says the chicken quesadilla is the best he's ever had. The prices are reasonable given the quality of the food. When we first arrived they weren't offering patio seating, but they were quick to accommodate us. Our waiter, Mikkel, was friendly and attentive to every need. He even brought water for our dogs.
