I have been so sad to see brick and mortar stores disappearing. I thought my Staples experience…read moremight be a bit rough - I needed to ship something and ended up on the basement level of the UWS Broadway store. A bit of a strange experience when I got off the elevator, but I made my way back to the shipping counter. Long line. The line moved very quickly, mostly because of the heroic efforts of one Staples employee named Virginia. Fast, friendly, SO helpful. She probably saved me $15 in shipping fees and, despite the looming line, took time to find the smallest box she could use to pack my things. She was patient as I fumbled my forms and was even nice to my old dog. I stopped and told the managers on my way out, and they were just as nice. Don't give up on brick and mortar stores! Kind staff make it so worth it, on every level. And Staples: Virginia needs a raise or a tip jar!!! She's the reason I will be back.

UPS drop off? Not unless you'd like to do all the work yourself, including being told to go behind…read morethe counter and fill out your own shipping information on their computer. And of course, once I reached a certain point of inputting my own information I walked out from behind the counter and waited for someone else to walk up to help me. Because I don't know how to operate their computer system. I put the shipping address as the return address. To which the next individual said, "Oh you made a mistake. You put in the return address as a shipping address. Where are you shipping it to?" I SIMPLY POINTED AT THE ADDRESS THAT WAS IN BIG BOLD BLACK LETTERS THAT WAS ALREADY ON THE BOX. I stated, "Look, man. I'm just trying to ship a package. That's all I need to do." (I had my shipment, packed, labeled clearly with the address on the box! All of the information was there right in front of them.) I had absolutely no confidence in their ability to ship this package so I simply grabbed my package and said, "I think I'll go to an actual UPS store to make sure it's done right. I truly thought that if I walked in with the box ready to be shipped with a return address and the shipping address printed and taped to the box that it would be the simplest thing to do. I was wrong..

Just like the other location on Broadway, this location is equally stocked and just as overpriced…read more It is the closest stationery/office supply store to my office, so if we run out of our bulk manila envelopes, or colored paper, etc. we typically run downstairs and to the left, to buy them at a much higher price at Ivy League Stationers. That said, they basically have any and all of your basic office needs: ink, toner, assorted paper (colors and sizes), notebooks, envelopes, and so on. You aren't getting anything special here, but because they put the words "Ivy League" in their name, they feel obligated to overcharge you. Not to mention, where else you gonna go around these parts? They've kinda got a monopoly going in this 3/4 mile radius, so good for them...bastards. Anyway, I ran in today to grab some new Moleskine notebooks for my daily musings, goals, and snarky remarks.
