For us it is a great place for school supplies, printing needs and moving supplies too!

The shipping center is almost more trouble than it's worth, especially as it has been moved from the first floor to a far corner of the basement. Pre-paid package customers, doing what ought to be quick USPS and UPS drop-offs, end up waiting behind lines of Amazon customers bringing in upwards of a dozen or more return items at a time each; or stranded while people un-equipped to use computer terminals try to input their information for return items; and the staff of mostly younger, newer employees in the basement seem clueless as to what they can and can't accept. Add to that the fact that they get no mail pick-up on Saturdays, and your USPS parcel dropped off on a Friday might sit there for up to three days before entering the postal system, and the end of the week is even more problematic. Better to walk it to the nearest post office, of which there are two, one on 83rd Street near Columbus Ave. that's a six minute walk from this place, and another at 68th Street, that's within hailing distance of an excellent Morton Williams supermarket with a first-rate salad bar and some limited seating (not to mention Lincoln Center, The Juilliard Store, the uptown branch of the Strand etc.) read more

Poor customer service. The employees at the print shop/ UPS counter are rude and do not want to help customers. They only want to print stuff and tape boxes. They were all annoyed when I showed up at the counter to mail an ups box. None of the employees were interested in helping the real live humans standing there waiting for help. The employee at the ups counter had to finish taping the bottom of an empty box, go find new tape, and ask 3 people where the tape was before she decided to acknowledge the 5 people standing in front of her in line. She argued with the customers behind me. She also failed to give me my tracking number, which I realized later that evening was missing and not printed on my receipt. After numerous calls, I finally went over IN PERSON, in my pajamas, to find out nobody knew how to look it up. Finally, someone figured it out. This Staples store #746 is accessible within walking vicinity via MTA's 1 train at 79th Street intersecting 80th Street and 81st Street in Upper West Side, Manhattan. It is huge with three stories of printing and copying service (1st floor); retail products (2nd floor) of hard wood open staircase; and home and office furniture (3rd floor). Upon ascending the long-winding wooden staircase I was promptly greeted on the 2nd floor and serviced to attain my printer ink cartridge. Customer service is welcoming and resourceful as I was able to attain my immediate need. The sales associate was not very knowledgeable with printer ink cartridge brand names and the compatible with the device. Staples once, pre 2010 era, carried a master ink cartridge book listing all the brand name printer device models with compatible cartridge which has been eliminated all across the country as sales associates now search engine the cartridge number. If you come here expecting to print from the copy machine from your email, google drive, or any other third party online source FORGET ABOUT IT. The copy machines (yes, I tried all of them) run SO slow and do not have enough built-in WiFi capable of loading anything. No one in the copy center is going to tell you to just do it from the computer station before you have $30 worth of pending charges from swiping your card on multiple copiers multiple times in order to use the machine in the first place, including the gentleman who looks like he's helping but really isn't. Save yourself time, you owe me 30 minutes of my life back Staples, and learn from my mistake. The manager helped me out of my little predicament and was very nice so if all else fails go to her. On the other hand this store is ridiculously understaffed and the sale took a full hour because Sean was the only one on the floor with a line of people needing to check out purchases. Reminder: This is the home of the famous "EASY" button you've seen on TV. Keep this in mind, friends, for you are in for a terrible awakening. Both times I came to Staples, it was a disaster. I just needed a printer. A laser printer. No bells and whistles, no fax or scan or wireless capabilities, no apps. Just. A. Printer. On my first attempt to purchase one, the staff member at the door "had no idea" where the printers were located. Helpful, thank you. I assisted myself, walked downstairs, and found rows and rows of book bags, binders, and colorful pencils, but no printers. Went upstairs to the second floor. SCORE! Found printers. Wandered along the aisle, scanning the goods, looking for an employee with some knowledge. But there didn't appear to be any employees on the floor. There was one guy behind the counter, but the line was 6 people deep. So I walked back downstairs. At the register, I asked if there was anyone available to answer some questions about printers. The saleslady looked at me as if I were a nuisance, and said, "If you couldn't find anyone, I'm certainly not gonna be able to." And went back to her conversation. What's their slogan again? Oh yeah: "Staples: That was easy." I was so annoyed that I left. Given the convenient location and my desperation, I went back the next day hoping for some printer support. There was actually a guy on the floor!! Hooray! But just as he started to give me the low-down on my printer options, he was yanked aside by a mother and her son who wanted to know about scanners. I (im)patiently waited for 20 minutes. That's right, 20 minutes. And then bought the cheapest printer, all by my smart self. AND carried it home, after being told that they charge a $17 delivery fee. I've always been able to find whatever office supply it might be that I'm looking for here, and for a decent price. However there is a weird smell when I go downstairs and the employees are seriously not helpful. My most recent experience: I came here to pick up something for work and at first I walked in trying to look for an employee to point me in the right direction, but that was becoming a difficult task so instead I went up and down the aisles hoping that I'd either find someone to help me or i'd find what I was looking for. After about 4-5mins of searching, which is quite long when you're in a huge rush, I was finally able to find the tape. I then went to an open register that had an employee standing behind it, and she told me she was closed but she'd find someone to check me out. After about 2 minutes of waiting someone finally came to the register to check me out and I was on my way ... finally. If you aren't in any rush and are self-sufficient then you will be able to find what you're looking for without any issues and for a decent price. However I have been to many other Staples locations where you can get the same products, if not more, and good service/help. The choice is yours ... read more

I bought a product, I was told it would not fit into a bag, therefore I could not have a bag. The damn store is 4 stories high, the person who laid out that store was high when they did it because there is no semblance of order whatsoever. Buy on-line and pick up is quick. However, you should check before leaving the store because they left out 1 item and now we have to return back to the store to pick up that 1 item. The store location is ideal and great close to public transportation and they stay open late. If your using the print service on the 1st floor beware when faxing out documents. I'm sorry but the service here is no good. I was in the neighborhood and remembered I had something I need to print off. I went in and stood there waited on the reps to acknowledge me, this was a while. I asked for the kiosk which was hidden from my view because it's facing away for the entrance so if you don't already know where it is located you would be walking around looking for it or had to stand and wait for a rep to please them self before attending to you, then point across the room in it's direction. There were 4 computers but only 2 worked so there was eventually a line waiting. The 2 stars is for the very helpful attendant on the second floor walked with me to show me where all the stuff I needed was located. He was very nice and attentive. The most awful customer service I've ever encountered - anywhere. After waiting in line for binding, they told me that their machine was down. Ok, understandable. But then, they tell me to come back in an hour and a half when it would be up. Of course it isn't. They say, look, we're sorry, but we'll take care of you first thing tomorrow morning. I'll even write a note down to let them know tomorrow morning that you're comin in. Fast forward to the next day. Of course that note was missing, they have no idea about the machine being down and won't push my order to the front since they have other orders. After 30 minutes of arguing and a shouting match, manager comes out and handles it herself in 4 minutes. This sort of thing happens ALL the time there. This hasn't been the first with me. This place is just awful...steer clear unless you absolutely need this place for some supplies. read more

This review is based off one experience. I was previously at Best Buy with bad expensive choices. Staples popped into my head and I called. FELIX answered the phone and helped me find a cheap alternative (Staples has more options of what I was looking for). I went right over to Staples and got the customer service that blew my mind (no really I don't expect anyone to be nice in New York City...ever). Apparently, this is the birthplace of my little itty bitty printer. *pats it on the...er...output tray* The only place where it was in stock, this Staples is across town. *le sigh* BUT, thanks to the beauty of the in-ter-net, I was able to order it online...to be shipped directly to moi...from this store...for FREE. (Well, the delivery was free.) The printer is seriously cute! Now some of you may say "Er...pieces of technology are not cute." But this one is! It's a chic BLACK color (hellooooo opaque fluorescent pens...OR...just think of how my Hello Kitty stickers will POP up against that background!...which I guess defeats the original intent of its being a chic black). And it's small. So cute! BEST of all, it was $150 - $50 rebate = $100! And did I mention the free shipping, which is especially important when you live on a fifth floor walkup??? On top of all that, as cheesy and corny as it is to say, when I went to submit my rebate online, those Staples commercials were TOTALLY right. That WAS easy.
