I stop by Perk Coffee once a month, when I am in the area for a doctor's visit. The employees are always very pleasant to interact with. The coffee house is either busy or calm depending on time of day I go. Today i went in for breakfast. I ordered an oatmeal which they filled with milk of my choice and a pastry. Once i sat down I decided I also want a matcha latte. I had an almost a dozen of flavors to choose from and I chose rose which not all coffee houses carry. I always put in my phone number in and today I got a pleasant surprise! Apparently I had enough points to get the matcha for free!! Wow just wow! I sat down and ate my breakfast. The coffee shop looks small but actually has a lot of seats. It's a great place to come to work when you're in the neighborhood. Will definitely continue coming here for my matcha! Definitely beats Starbucks in every way! read more

This Is an easy Going And friendly And Quiet café w fast free WiFi. It's on 97th and 96th on 2nd avenue. They also have a bathroom, which is really nice to have in New York City. There's also charging stations and tables and chairs. It might be small, but it definitely works. You can enjoy doing your work while having coffee or tea and some bakery stuff. The male staff who worked on Sunday Mother's Day 5/12/24 was very nice and down to earth. People like him are hard to find in nyc. The drinks and bakery items are good. But it's the staff that makes the place ... hope the owner recognizes how precious this guy is. I'm sorry I didn't get his name but know that you are a Star in my eyes. Great spot to grab a coffee or tea and get some work done! The barista (owner?) is incredibly welcoming and friendly to everyone and makes a killer pumpkin spice latte complete with beautiful art on top. They play good music and have a nice atmosphere. They also sold out of their baked goods while I was there so they must be pretty tasty and keep a fresh stock! read more

Ordered from Ritual App with their $1 drinks promo. Wanted a chai latte, but they ran out around 12pm on a weekday which seems early. My friend was able to order a chai latte, but said it wasn't very strong and "tasted watery." I personally ordered an oat milk latte, which was not very strong in it's espresso. Had also seen a lot of pictures with latte art but disappointed to see that mine was not the case. Overall a bit disappointed, but it is a cute place to sit at and the Ritual deal is nice. Had come here multiple times at their very opening and middle of the day. Really adorable coffee spot near metro hospital. Their flat white, cappuccino, and matcha are excellent. They have every milk alternative available which I appreciate and do an excellent job. Their pastries are fresh that morning from a bakery and the croissant was delicious. Their wifi is reliable and there is space to sit and get work done or have a chat with a friend. This will be my go to coffee spot in the area! read more

Perk Kafe is a really cute little spot right near the Q entrance on 96th. Their almond croissant is my absolute favorite. They also always have a ton of cool coffee and tea drinks in addition to standard latte fare. The Staff is always super friendly as well! I so wanted to love this place, as it's right next to me, but it fell so flat! I ordered a matcha latte, and it was straight water. No flavor, almost clear in color/consistency, no milk in sight in the supposed latte. Other reviews rave about it, so I am definitely confused, but it was easily, and without exaggeration, the worst latte I've had since moving to New York. This is one of the Cups app partners in the UES neighborhood that I have been frequenting recently, and I've had good to great experiences both times I've been there! The first time I ordered a dirty chai latte. It was way too sweet for me, but they were happy to fill up my cup with hot water to dilute it out a bit. Even then, the latte still had a strong chai flavor. The second time, I went with the honey almond latte, and specifically asked for a little less sweetness. The drink was actually quite delicious (even though I'm not usually a huge fan of almond milk), and I enjoyed sipping on it for the rest of the afternoon! Earlier today, I opted for a 'cheaper' latte at the DD next door and ended up with a super artificial tasting latte that left a really gross aftertaste in my mouth. Needless to say, I've learned my lesson and will only be getting my afternoon pick-me-ups from Perk in the future. :) read more

The final stop on the Marianne W.'s tour of Yorkville was Perks Kafe on the corner of 2nd Avenue and 96th Street. We arrived early afternoon and the pastry selection was depleted, but there was still a sugar cinnamon donut singing its siren song. The shop is smallish, but has a number of tables and window bars/stools that allow a sit and chat or plug in and work moment. Their coffee is from Stumptown Roasters in Portland, Oregon, a passionate java provider that goes to the ends of the Earth to find the perfectly grown cherries (beans) that translate into a great mug of Joe. The baristas on duty on our arrival were friendly and had no difficulty putting out a regular brew or the chai latte I requested. Of course, being there with a local celebrity was a inherent benefit. Nice to be treated like royalty. We grabbed space at the window on 1st Ave. and settled in for conversation and to watch the world go by. No rush. No fuss. No worries. The chai had a premixed base limiting the creativity of the house, but it was still very good. M. seemed to enjoy her cuppa. Cozy spot to prop up at to grab some good coffee and get some work done, early in the morning.

It was a cute coffee place with just enough chairs and outlets to get some work done. The part that was most memorable was the barista- there was one poor guy working the bar, ringing people up, and taking care of cleaning, and I was waiting for my drink by the counter. I'm never really in a rush when I drink coffee, but the terrified look he gave me when I was waiting for my drink was one I'll never forget, almost like he was expecting to be screamed at or something, or to hurry up. I felt so bad for him in that moment, thinking of all the snobby New Yorkers who have no compassion or common sense. It must be stressful being the only person working here, and I hope the poor guy gets some assistance in the near future. I think he's doing a great job. read more

I will choose this place any day before I go to the starbucks down the street. This cafe has an array of baked goods and different coffee options. The barista was extremely helpful and suggested the honey almond latte. It was so delicious and sweet, but not too sweet. You could definitely taste the honey and the almond. This is also a good place to come and do work. There are a couple of small 2 seater tables but also one giant long table as well. Many people come here with their laptops so this makes for a good study place. The music plays low so you can concentrate. IDK why it took me a year to write this review. I guess I just recovered from how rude the barista was , I thought I was getting pranked or something. Used to get some work done here, and the service is by far the worst I've ever seen. This is a cozy little coffee shop but they ran out of a lot of the pastries and couldn't heat up pastries that I did get. Sold out of pastries could be a good thing because it is fresh but it is bad when there isn't enough to go around :( I bought a donut, almond croissant, latte, and expresso with soy milk coffee. It came out to about 17 and some change. There are also no flavors in the latte. The upside... there was wifi and the croissant was good. The passion fruit donut was weird but the coffee was good. Cozy spot but i personally like more in coffee shops I lounge in so though coffee (important for coffee shops...) was good, I'd have to give it three stars for not having more variety. It's mainly being bare bones for a coffee shop with manhattan prices. read more
