Visited this sweet little Café today and was not disappointed. I really love that they have a blocked off children's area. We felt super comfortable and welcome and not at all like we were disturbing anyone that was trying to work (which usually happens in coffee shops). I wanted to love it but it just isn't for me, for multiple reasons. Spent ~$40 on lunch that consisted of barely any food. Waited a long time considering we only ordered two sandwiches. Didn't order any coffee or specialty drinks. The sandwiches were sooo boring. Realized they forgot one of the three ingredients (other than bread) on one of the sandwiches. Went back on the line to add it. Even though I had just received my food and had the box in hand, not 1 of the 3 servers (there may have even been 4 at one point) made eye contact with me on line or reached out. I waited a long time to let them know they forgot an ingredient and to have it passed over so I could add it to the sandwich. The vibe is there and I wanted it to be a go to spot in the neighborhood but I can't get behind expensive boring food plus poor service. read more

We had breakfast bagels. One was pimento cheese with Turkey sausage &egg. Very good. The other was bacon &egg on everything bagel. Yummy. Only comment was that for a large bagel they only gave a tiny sausage patty. I'd recommend the place. read more

I needed a pick me up and decided to check Perk out! I love the branding and have been following them on various social media platforms for awhile now. It's a fairly large coffee shop with adorable yellow metal chairs. The staff was really friendly and I ordered a hazelnut mocha and a banana chocolate chip muffin- both delicious. There's a kids' play area in the back, and lots of yummy food like scones, sea salt chocolate chip cookies, and more. Love it! read more

Ugh. What a disappointment. I met a friend after a medical procedure, and carried in my cup of coffee from the Dr's office. My intent was to finish the cup and order from the coffee clerk. Before I could finish, the clerk approached me and on a loud aggressive tone told me not to bring outside food into the store. She did say she'd allow not this time but not the next time I come back. I dont mind being told that, it was just the manner in which Iwas told. And the aggeeasion. This place bills it self as a tolerant, accepting venue.. I feel too uncomfortable to go back. This is my go to coffee shop. On the go, or to sit down for lunch this is my spot. I get a Mexican mocha iced or hot. The quality of their sandwiches and goodies are top notch. They support local businesses like Cupertinos bagels, and Bon Air Seafood. My faves are their water tower, tuna salad sandwhich. Or just egg an cheese bagel. Their banana brownies are ridiculously good. Try warmed! The cookies, deadly! Come hungry, leave happy. The staff actually listen, unlike the name brand chain who want you to be impressed by the fact that they waited on you. I like the relaxed vibe here! You wil too! read more

Stopped in for breakfast while attending the OTR Holiday Market. The place was jumping. There was live music for the kids. This is a nice coffee shop. I try to stop through when I'm in Bon Air. I struggled between breakfast and lunch but decided on the lunch box. The box comes with a sandwich, a side and a dessert. I ordered the O'Henry--Turkey, Havarati, Fig spread on wheat pressed. Delicious. I had to get the Sally Bells Potato salad which is also tasty and a pleasant surprise. I can get my SB fix on Sunday now! Yay! The Mexican cookie is really good. Service fast and friendly. Food delicious.. I recommend and will return. read more

I want to like Perk. I really do. They kept the play area from the fro-yo place that was previously there: that is great news for parents with small children. I get it. However, I am over my Cartwheels and Coffee days, so listening to kids scream and carry on in the play area while I try to chat over a cup of coffee doesn't do much for me. Seating is limited. Coffee is good. Lines don't move too swiftly. I will give them a few more tries because I do like to support local businesses. Maybe they still have some kinks to work out. read more

I've been waiting for Perk to open since I heard about it, because this part of town is in desperate need of a decent coffee shop. Perk is better than decent. I typically only drink black coffee because I I don't want to like coffee any more than I already do, so I can't personally speak to lattes and such, but their roasts are very good - perhaps not so good as say Lamplighter, but easily better than average, including several more established shops in Richmond. They make baked goods, and the two we had (an orange scone and a raspberry tart of some kind) were great, better than I expected. Their children's area was way nicer that I expected, and indeed almost too nice - I worry that once word gets out too many parents will come, spend $2 on a cup of coffee and stay for an hour. By all means stay, just order a lot so they stay in business. EDIT: They now serve decent lunch sandwiches, but you're better off getting a few of their excellent pastries/hand pies. They could do business just on those. There is some space for people to sit and work, but it is not huge. read more

A kid friendly coffee shop?! I had never heard of such a thing until I went to Perk! Walking in, you would think it's just a typical coffee shop but if you keep walking back here is a gated off kid's corner that is fill with toys, books and a chalk board. It was very tidy and had chairs for the parents so they could relax and enjoy their drinks while their children could freely roam the kid area. I was very impressed with it and will be back soon! read more

Whenever I'm in town visiting my parents, I stop by Perk! for a coffee and scone or other sweet treat. There really aren't any other coffee options nearby, but I'm glad that this place is so good. Their scones and breakfast sandwiches are really delicious, and their coffee (both hot and iced) is tasty. My only complaint is that they can be a little slow sometimes, but everyone I have encountered who works there is very nice and helpful. When the weather is nice, it's great to walk there, and it has a small town neighborhood feel. Having grown up in Bon Air, I'm rooting for the area to stay alive and thrive, and I think Perk is doing a lot to help with that! read more

If you like your coffee to taste like a paper cup then this is the place for you. Almost everyone I know would choose a local business over an international chain but this is not a place I'd recommend for coffee. Maybe their food is why they have a high rating but I'll never know. Great food and coffee , I had the lemon Greek yogurt parfait which is made in house a blueberry muffin and caramel coffee . The reason for the four stars is the place unfortunately seemed kind of stuffy but I think it was due to the person taking my order. No one asked if I had any questions as I kind of pondered around the menu on the board or the different areas of where they had the bakery items. This was my first time here and while I will be back I hope the greeting/service is more warm next time read more

Friendly staff, service was quick, a variety of homemade baked goods...like cheddar bacon muffins. They offer soy and almond milk. The walled in kids area is super cute. Coffee is good, Richmond Blend tea is incredible, but not much else going on. Prices are reasonable. Avoid the sanwiches. The pimento cheese is inexplicably flavorless, its neon orange hue reminiscent of carcinogens, and served on bread that is dense, dry, and crumbly enough to sand wood. The turkey and fig sandwich also suffers from dryness, and meat that is always gamy. Uncomfortable booth seating is backed by some goofy art installation (scraps of cloth weaved into a yarn mesh...ok) that doesn't impede leaning back but makes it awkward for the type of person that wonders whether it's OK to lean on an art installation. Kiddy corral is twice as big as it should be, in an area of the footprint that might otherwise offer more intimate seating as opposed to the rest of the wide-open space. Pros: ~Local, small business nestled into a cozy shopping center with other local, small businesses ~Adbibo (now Roastology) coffee is served ~GREAT BEVERAGES - My SO and I haven't met a beverage that we haven't liked ~Options are available for many dietary restrictions ~Supports other small, local businesses ~Family friendly space includes an area for kids to play ~Indoor and outdoor seating ~Saves their coffee grounds for gardeners (Free) ~Promotes activity as a, and within the community ~Sweets - OHMYDAMN good! (Brownie sandwich with pistachio cream -just eat it) ~The employees are friendly enough and the owner hangs out in store Cons ~Savory food quality is inconsistent- there are some items that are quite impressive, while others are mediocre. I've had breakfast sandwiches a couple of times- the bagels are good, the sausage has good flavor, the egg and cheese are hard to taste. The eggs and sausage are the kind that come pre-formed and frozen. I'd love to see a switch to real eggs, maybe a stronger cheese, and especially with all of the other local products in shop, a switch to one of the many amazing local sausages that are available. The breakfast tart was probably amazing when first cooked, but when I had it, the yolk tops were chewy and they were not warmed enough rendering them all right but not great. ~Only once have I felt underserved by an employee - busier day, but she clearly had no interest in serving me. It's worth saying that, while I've received underwhelming service here before, I've never experienced that complete lack of interest but once. I have been here prior to my last visit and the food was good, especially their home made breakfast Frittata. I went there about two weeks ago and ordered a Tuna Salad sandwich for me and a pimento/ham cheese sandwich for my friend. We took it to go. It advertised Bon Air fresh Tuna- well if I could find the tuna in the sandwich I would be able to tell- there was such a thin layer of Tuna that you could not taste it so were only able to taste the tomato on the stale bread. My friends ham was turning brown-so she took it off the sandwich- they offered only 1 read that day the stale whole grain- As I said they may have been having an off day- but I feel the owner should be aware of my experience there. read more
