    Spicy crushed cucumber salad

Stopped in on a Saturday night. Did not have a reservation but bar seating was available which offered the full menu. Very friendly and attentive staff. Provided recommendations regarding cocktails - the Gibson and the nod were what we went with and they were amazing. We split small plates of spicy crushed cucumber salad, sticky rice croquettes and chile crunch tofu. We split a large plate of crab fried rice. Delicious dinner and fun night out. Would recommend and look forward to a follow up visit.

We came here for restaurant week and absolutely loved it. The ambiance is cozy, warm, and also moody with nice colorful accents. Food was delicious. Loved the hamachi crudo and fried rice. Service was also wonderful, our waiter was friendly and accommodating!

Ambiance, vibes: 10/10 Mike at the bar was super cool. Our hostess was also super nice. She set us up at the bar and quickly got us to an available table. Food Menu: very concise. Love it. There's more small plates and a few large plates. My husband and I shared the octopus small plate, tofu small plate, and curry large plate. The octopus was way too salty. Octopus was soggy. Couldn't taste the other wonderful ingredients because of how salty the sauce was. Fried tofu was solid. Lovely texture. Black sesame sauce was nice too. Spicy green curry was nice not spicy lol generous portion of rice. I think the mint garnish would have been better as basil. Tofu was nice and silky. Drink menu: cocktails, mocktails, wine, etc. the drinks are better than the food. Got the hearts delight which was light and refreshing. My husband got the old fashion. Both good options. Seating: bar or seating. Good for small ground 2-4 people. Overall: lovely. Enjoyed the vibes. Nice, modern spot. Low lighting, good music. Good for a date too. Note: I'm from LA and I'm viet lol if this were a restaurant back home, this is a 3 for food.

Overall good atmosphere for a nice dinner. The food overall felt more Asian inspired than specifically Vietnamese. The papaya salad and crab fried rice were good, would recommend to others. The prawns were alright, however would not return for them alone

Really excellent dinner at Peridot during a visit to Ann Arbor to visit my sister over the summer! We snagged reservations for a Saturday night without issue. The restaurant is conveniently located on the main street in downtown AA, and we luckily found parking pretty easily. The space is modern and with a moody ambience but beautiful and cozy. We were quite comfortable in our booth towards the back of the restaurant. The menu is Vietnamese-inspired with very fresh ingredients and more unique spins. We started with the green papaya salad, which featured cucumber to mellow the spice, peanuts for crunch, a lime vinaigrette for acidity, and a touch of beef jerky to add a surprising element. Next was the ketchup fried rice, which was a top suggestion from our server. This was a simple yet delightful dish with great flavor from the ketchup and sriracha and a nice crunch from the crisped rice. The rest of our starters were rounded out with the fried tofu, which included pickled carrot and daikon and a black sesame puree (lovely combination), and the hamachi crudo with jalapeno and coconut and fresh herbs and veggies. We opted to enjoy most of our meal from the starter menu, and we really enjoyed each dish! The standouts were the tofu and the crudo. To round out the meal, we all split the sea bream, which was paired with a ginger citrus sauce and accompanied by lettuce wraps and rice noodles to construct each bite. This was an excellent main - quite fresh with a great balance of additional crunch, sweetness, and spice. We paired our meal with a few cocktails / NA cocktails (very much appreciate their extensive mocktail list), which similarly featured Vietnamese-inspired flavors. This amount of food was perfect for the 3 of us to split, and we wound up taking a bit of it home for the next day. Prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity, too. Overall, our meal at Peridot was memorable and enjoyable and we would love to return to try other menu items and see the options change with the seasons!

Peridot is a relatively new restaurant on Liberty, neighboring one of my favorite restaurants, Pacific Rim. It features dishes influenced by the flavors of Vietnam. The restaurant takes up two floors. I was charmed by the restaurant's ambiance and aesthetics: scarred brick walls, floral (crochet?) ceiling on the top floor, and large, leather booth seating. The menu was interesting. Divided into two sections, there were shareable plates and main/larger plates. I wanted to order so much from it: Brussels sprouts (of course), banh mi (always), pho, and cauliflower. I went with the papaya salad - I have been desperately seeking the perfect one since having it over a decade ago - and pork belly. The former was more savory than I expected, but good nonetheless. The pork belly was a huge disappointment - it was tough when it should have been succulent. For my main, I went with the Rohan duck. This included a wonderfully seared duck breast, tender and well-seasoned, crispy duck spring rolls, and pickled napa cabbage. I have to confess that I did not enjoy the cabbage; I found it too sour. Other than that, the dish was lovely. Other than a mishap with seating at the start, service was fine.

I've been here four or five times and have had a great experience each time. Some favorites are the crab fried rice, kampachi and prosciutto, and the duck bahn mi. Their cocktails and mocktails are AMAZING, I should honestly just come here for drinks more. Service is generally pretty good though occasionally the kitchen may get backed up on an item or two. It's usually pretty bustling in there, full of couples on dates or groups of friends (there is always one LOUD table for some reason). A nice place to spend a night out, just be prepared to spend a little $ unless you're just stopping in for a drink and a small bite.

Peridot is such a great spot -- a fresh, elevated twist on Vietnamese flavors. Kicked things off with the cucumber salad, and wow... the chilis gave it just the right amount of flavorful heat without overpowering it. The hamachi crudo was another favorite -- a perfect mix of sweet and spicy that made every bite pop. The cocktails here are seriously next level. Jonah is an amazing mixologist -- he took a bold rhum agricole and somehow turned it into a perfectly balanced, crisp beauty called Earth Angel. One of the best cocktails I've had in a long time. Delicious food, creative drinks, and a fun, welcoming vibe. Worth a trip to Ann Arbor if you're not a local!

The service and the food in this little hidden gem in downtown Ann Arbor are great. Our waitress came back again and again to check on us. The cocktail menu is quite extensive, including a nice variety of mocktails for non-drinkers like myself. The food is tapas style, with small plates and large plates. For a party of 4, 3 small and 2 large gave us plenty of food. The only knock was on the size of the croquettes. They were tiny, and we all thought they would be more substantial. And as it was my birthday, they gave me a free dessert!

I stopped off here after another restaurant had a wait. It's a small quaint place with a bar. it's a Korean based spot with small plates and some main entrees The host seated us pretty quickly. I ordered a nice cocktail called Viper. It had some herbal notes with gin and was pretty good and unique. I also got the crab fried rice which was also pretty good. Good flavor and a real crab based flavorful creation. Pretty good stuff. I also got the mango salad. It was good with a good unique taste and crispness. All and all, I'm glad I tried this place. I look forward to going back.

Went here last minute for a girls night dinner, there is a downstairs and upstairs and we got seated in the upstairs area. The ambiance was nice and our waitress was attentive and friendly. We tried a few different cocktails from the menu and appreciated the unique options! For food, the crab fried rice was our favorite but overall was not blown away by any dish. The duck bao bahn mi was tasty, but the grilled octopus was slightly chewy. We got the chocolate choux dessert to go but were very disappointed with a dry bread like texture. It was overall a good atmosphere with some tasty dishes but would probably only return for the drinks.

When you walk into the restaurant, the brick walls covered with beautiful artwork take your breath away. The food was spicy and delicious, and our server was kind and professional. I really loved this restaurant

Came for cocktails on a Saturday early evening, as we could not get a reservation. Sat at the bar, although there were lots of tables both inside and outside available. Girlfriends, they don't carry cranberry juice so keep that in mind. I will admit, I like a good cocktail, but don't like gin or whiskey much, so there were not many cocktails on the menu that sounded good to me. I discussed this with the bartender and he recommend the Odin& Fenir. It is a shaken drink with mint and cucumber. It was ok, and they offered to make me something else. The bartender suggested a vodka daisy. It was excellent. It is a craft cocktail bar, so lots of complex drinks. The ambiance is a cool, hipster vibe. I would go back to try the food. It smelled great.

I stopped in with a group on a weeknight recently, and even on a cold December night, we found that there was a small crowd inside, with groups of all sizes grabbing drinks and catching up. The inside of the establishment is a mix of super high ceilings and surpisingly limited seats. There are a fair amount of tables and bar seating as well, but just less than you'd expect by looking at it from the outside! There are a ton of TVs inside, so I could imagine this would be a good place to watch sports -- while we were there, they were playing a Lord of the Rings movie and we heard from the bartender that they often have movies of such high caliber playing! Now onto the important part - the cocktails! We tried a couple of cocktails from their menu and found that though they tasted good, they felt somewhat lacking in alcohol... either the bartender did an amazing job with the mix, or they were light pours. I will say I got an old fashioned after that, and the old fashioned was excellent! Handmade, not pre-mixed, and both the flavor and presentation were excellent. Overall, I'd say we had a pretty solid experience - I'll be back to try out some more drinks for sure (both cocktails and coffee!)

What I do love about Ann Arbor is that they balance out the drunk haunts of young adults with great restaurants and high end bars for the people looking for more than a pitcher of cheap beer. Down the same little alley way as Circ Bar, this underground bar is tucked away, stone hallways and open up and lead to different openings that provide seating, a dance floor and an amazingly stocked bar. If you like bourbon you will love this spot. Our bartender was fantastic, absolutely worked with me on working out a drink. I know I took a pic of an espresso martini, but my drink was made perfect also. The servers are not very friendly, helpful or welcoming. Service is very slow even on slow nights. No one seems to care either. Given the exceptional service at other restaurants it is a deterrent for returning. Drinks are reasonably priced and a good selection. For being scratch made they are not able to accommodate allergies well. Most things are marinated or prepped ahead. Besides Sushi or ordering plain noodles there isn't much I could order. My husband did enjoy the Burger and would order it again. I just wish there was more I could eat. For the Sushi its not anything outstanding. The flavor of the Crab Salad isn't our favorite. The Black Pearl Roll unfortunately, is not worth the pricing. $25 for a roll with mostly cucumber. It's also not very consistent in sizing. Once it was so large I could barely fit it in my mouth and the other times very small. If you plan to charge $25 for a Sushi Roll it should contain a good amount of Sushi. I can go across the street and get amazing Tuna Tartare for under $15 with plenty of Tuna.

The weather has been lovely for late September, so we sat on the patio which I thought was the better move since honestly the interior smelled like fried food. We ordered: *Coconut Shrimp (GF) Black tiger prawns, coconut, tempura batter, honey-lime chipotle sauce - big tasty pieces of prawn that were really nicely fried! I didn't care for the honey-lime chipotle sauce...I honestly wanted the chipotle mayo from the fish tacos instead but solid starter! *Spicy Tuna Roll (Spicy tuna salad, jalapeno, sriracha) - I was pleasantly surprised by this. First of all, there were large pieces of tuna which tells me it's better quality rather than scraps just mushed and minced up. Also, the sushi rice was legit - the right texture, the right amount of sushi vinegar. If I were more hungry, I'd probably have ordered the California roll or shrimp tempura (since the coconut shrimp was so well fried!) *Salmon Tikka Masala (Pan-seared Atlantic salmon topped with yogurt compressed cucumber and Fresno, couscous, roasted broccolini, sweet potatoes, garlic sauce. Served with grilled lime and toasted pita) - I enjoyed the flavors and texture on this one! I would've preferred more of a medium salmon as this was a little more well done than flaky BUT still good. The compressed cucumber, the cous cous - all awesome. I had left overs and ate it the next day. *Fish Tacos GF (Tortilla encrusted tilapia, cumin salt, chipotle mayo, spicy cabbage slaw, pico de gallo, lime) - this is apparently THE dish to get here. It's an OG menu item. I will admit that I kind of pupu'ed it since it is tilapia but my husband ordered it and I was really surprised by it! They cut their tilapia a bit differently and it's really well fried (just like the coconut shrimp). The bar was pretty backed up at some points (pretty expansive bar seating) so cocktails took a while. Make your reservation via RESY! It was super busy on a Friday night.

My friend had high praise for Spencer, so I was excited to try it out when I was in Ann Arbor. My…read morefriends and I arrived 10 min before they opened for brunch and there was no wait, though the restaurant filled up quickly behind us. The space is rustic and simple, with fresh cut flowers on the tables. A majority of the walls were occupied by floor to ceiling racks of wine, as that is their award-winning product. Their brunch menu changes weekly and is extremely tight and cohesive. My party ordered the entire food menu sans olives (2/3rds of us don't like them), and two plates of the potato pelmeni. My thoughts below: Amaro Apertivo: mocktail based on the namesake dessert wine. This tasted like candy but not too sweet, and we enjoyed it a lot. Lovage soda: Google told me that lovage is an herb that tastes like citrus and celery. I am a huge fan of drinks with a twist, and I'd say that celery is a pretty big one! Crisp and not too sweet, the citrus flavor definitely balanced the Celery, and both flavors kept the soda fresh and crisp. This was great paired with the rest of the herbaceous menu and balanced out the richness of some later dishes, though it's not necessarily something I would enjoy by itself without appropriate accompaniment. Pickled egg, fried shallot, dill: I had only heard of pickled eggs in the context of strange British food on YouTube, so I was a little hesitant about this dish. The concept of an egg floating in vinegar brine is a bit off-putting, but once I powered through that mental roadblock, I found myself enjoying this bite. The egg is perfectly cooked with a slightly jammy yolk, and the shallots added a much needed crunch. Dill enhanced the pickled taste while cutting through the richness of the fried shallots and yolk. Sourdough focaccia, whipped butter: Never in my life have I ever made focaccia this tall. This focaccia was raised by a loving family and nurtured to develop a golden, non-greasy, crisp crust protecting its tender, pillowy innards. The classic sourdough tang is a novel addition to each bite, and cuts through the creamy, whipped butter to keep me wanting more. I could eat a whole pan of this alone, but we had many more plates to sample. Saucisson sec salami, pickled carrot: This is a simple, charming, carb-free mini charcuterie; place a slice of salami, some of the mozzarella (next dish on this list, below), and its oil atop a pickled carrot base, and you are in for a perfectly balanced treat. My favorite part of this dish is the fact that the salami was incredibly savory, and not too salty. The more you chew it, the more the flavors express themselves, so be sure to chew slowly and thoroughly! The crunch of the crisp, dill-pickled carrot and the soft chewiness of the mozzarella give each bite a lot of good contrast. Mozzarella, green garlic oil: Fresh, hand-stretched mozzarella is something that even I, a notorious cheese-hater, can't say no to. It is not sharp or funky at all, nor is it too salty. Most of the flavor comes from the green garlic and olive oil smothering each bite. Fresh and floral with a little bite, this was delicious with the salami and carrot above. Potato pelmeni, asparagus green adjika, sour cream: Given the portion size of the previous dishes (small, tapas vibes), we were not expecting the platter full of double carb heaven that met our eyes. And we ordered two!!! This is a gorgeous dish with plump, quarter-sized pelmeni nestled in a vibrant green asparagus and herb sauce with a dollop of sour cream on top. This was a classic comfort dish with a verdant twist! The pelmeni were stuffed full of creamy potato, and the dough was cooked perfectly al dente for a satisfying, pillowy bite. The sauce was homey but packed with zippy flavor and tender asparagus. The major feedback I have for this dish is that it was way too salty, to the point where the flavor was a tad too sharp because of it. Lettuces, radish, pumpkin seed, caraway vinaigrette: It was through this dish that I found out what caraway tastes like and through this dish that I figured out that I'm not a caraway fan. The lettuces were bitter and when combined with the slightly medicinal caraway taste, wasn't for me. The crunch of the radish and the nutty pumpkin seeds were great in this dish though! Fennel cornmeal biscotti, rhubarb compote, cream: This was a single biscotti with generous dollops of compote and cream. We were quite full when this dish was set in front of us, so I was frankly relieved for the small portion size. The fennel in the biscotti paired wonderfully with the tart rhubarb, and the rich cream rounded things out nicely without tipping into cloying territory. The savory cornmeal complimented the fennel and provided additional depth of flavor. A great small bite to end on! Overall, Spencer's strong fundamentals allow them to take risks with in-season local produce. Some things worked for me and some didn't, but I would love to come back to see what they can create next!
