Wycombe's latest chicken shop did not live up to it's name. There was little to no "delight" in the experience whatsoever.
I had been in there twice before, but due to the slow service I had given up and gone to the much more trust worthy and efficient chicken cottage next door. However, this time I decided I would stick it out for curiosity's sake.
The nicely decorated and spacious layout of the "restaurant" was nullified by the disgusting state it was in. There was rubbish left out not just on the tables, but all over the floor, which was soaking wet and nearly slipped me up several times. I then got to the counter and could see the dirty floor was just as bad behind the counter in the cooking area. Very unhygienic.
There were Kids running around jumping all over the furniture and screaming babies making it impossible for me to communicate effectively with the server. Not the environment I want to be in when purchasing my hangover cure.
Furthermore, I had to wait 15 whole minutes for my food. 15! completely defeating the purpose of "fast food". I could have been served in a busy restaurant quicker, whereas today there was only a couple of other customers. It's lucky my bus was also late.
The price was not too bad. £6.40 for 2 pieces of chicken, 3 wings, a tower burger with chips and a drink. There was no pepper to be had from the side counter and no sauces offered. I was also not impressed when I was given 7 up after asking for coke, but as it had taken so long and almost made me miss my bus I had no time to complain.
The food itself was not too bad, though nothing special. The tower burger was sufficiently dressed with the right amount of mayonaise and lettuce. The burger was well structured and evenly composed. Nice bread, chicken not too dry. Was happy with it, but was not worth a 15 minute wait. The chips were marginally better than chicken cottage, but far from delicious, and as expected I didn't finish them. The wings weren't too bad, but if you like hot spicy wings you'd be very disappointed. I'm not a spice lover at all and I didn't need to reach for the seven up once while eating the wings. The breading itself was nice, good orange colour, seasoned well but patchy and didn't cover the wings very well at all. The chicken pieces were average. Very dry and did not come of the bone very easily.
All in all I was not impressed and won't be returning. Not a patch on the chicken next door and the service was ridiculous. Given it a two star rating on the grounds that if I search my memory hard enough I'm sure I must have had worse at some point....I think. read more
