Overall, my experience of a delivery from Wok Express was disappointing, particularly given that there seems to be a 30% premium on prices compared to other chinese take aways in the locality.
I ordered:
Prawn Dumplings (har gau)
Siu Mai
Salt and Pepper Ribs
Sweet and Sour Chicken
Blackbean Beef
The dumplings were rather small and although I was not expecting authentic restaurant quality, it was still on the lower end of the spectrum of expectations.
The Salt and Pepper Ribs were way over cooked. The spicy batter coating was ok, taste-wise, but the fatty bits of meat commonly the associated with ribs was far too over-cooked and was hard and brittle. This was the biggest disappointment of the dishes I ordered.
The Black-bean Beef was too watered down and lacked the strong pungent black-bean taste you'd expect. However, there was a generous amount of meat tenderised a bit too much for my liking.
The Sweet and Sour Chicken was probably the best dish overall, albeit slightly too vinegary and acidic, if i'm to be completely honest.
I was also unimpressed with the mandatory £1 delivery charge, regardless of the fact my overall total came to over £20.
Unfortunately, the expectation of a better quality chinese food due to the 30% premium was not met. There are better chinese take aways in High Wycombe which also offer better quality and value for money. read more
