Performance Imports in Danbury further reinforces the reason society has come to distrust used car dealerships and sales people. This place represents itself as a specialist in quality, high-end used cars from BMW and Mercedes. Do NOT trust them with any of their more affordable options. We purchased a moderately-priced vehicle here in the beginning of March and have had to perform significant repair on the vehicle since purchase. When asking about having a PrePurchase Inspection at an outside mechanic, we were told, "It's an inexpensive car, people who spend over $40-50K tend to get an inspection, but for this price range it is not normally done." We were "graciously" offered to inspect it ourselves on their lift, with their mechanic. Once on the lift, I pointed out that there was oil dripping from the pan. Once the car was back on the ground, the mechanic looked at the car and reasoned that since it ran clean (no smoke, a sign of leaking into the cylinders) and we saw no signs of oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil, then the most likely problem was the oil temperature sensor. When discussed with the sales person, she stated that they would NOT be fixing the leak. They had already scheduled to replace the front and rear brake pads and rotors before we had set foot in the dealership. This would later be stated that this was performed as a no charge service for us. No, it was their own planned service as it was needed to be able to pass NYS inspection for sale. I will say that the mechanic did find the serpentine belt worn and that was replaced at no cost. As for negotiation, there was none, take it or leave it. We went ahead and purchased the vehicle, more fool us. After weeks of inspections, multiple trips to two different mechanics including the use of florescent dye in the oil, the diagnosis was the leak originated from the head gasket. Upon contacting Performance Imports, it was re-iterated to us that the car was AS-IS, and they questioned the ability of the mechanics who diagnosed the vehicle. $900 later the car is finally leak free. The major issue with this dealership is lack of transparency and honesty. Two specific times I asked if the car needed any further repairs. Once when I first called about the vehicle, and once again onsite before taking it for a test drive. Both times we were told that besides the scheduled brake replacement, no further repair was needed. It comes down to one of two things: 1) they have terrible mechanics who cannot see an oil leak or 2) they knew about the oil leak and did not disclose it when asked. The car had been given a very thorough cleaning, including a steam detailing of the engine bay, therefore the lack of knowledge of the leak is not the probable answer. And thus, it leaves us with what we have come to expect from used car dealerships: lying, cheating, and doing whatever they can to sell a car. If, however, they did not know about the leak, do you really want to buy a car from a dealership that allegedly inspects the cars thoroughly and cannot see an engine oil leak? If such a simple observation can be overseen, what else would be missed or mis-diagnosed? We purchased an "AS IS" vehicle here and got burned. If you choose to not listen to our tale, and go here, GET YOU CAR INSPECTED from an outside source. Do not trust the staff here, they do not represent their vehicles accurately. read more

In the words of YELP, this place is as good as it gets. We're talking about buying used cars after all, which isn't necessarily as straightforward as buying a car could be... but as others have said, it seems that PI hand-picks their cars and has a great shop to keep them all in mint condition while they're on the lot. They have a great cars at very fair prices. On top of that, the staff (Hi Kimmy!) at Performance Imports are incredibly helpful and WILL go out of their way to ensure you drive away in your new car as quickly and seamlessly as possible. I was expecting to spend hours at the DMV registering the car after purchase, but it was all taken care of, registration and copies of my insurance already placed in the glovebox, with new plates on and ready to drive. PLUS the car had been totally detailed and hand waxed... I mean, come on! That is service, and with a smile! Love love LOVED my experience at PI and I will definitely be back for more! read more

It has taken me months to write this review and the reason is that I have been completely blown away by JUST HOW GOOD THEY are. I have been a habitual leaser of new high end cars forever, and I listened to BMW and Mercedes haters for far to long ( most secretly really want one) telling me how expensive they were to keep up. Additionally I have to confess that I stopped by the local Mercedes and BMW new car shops ( the temptation was too great) - bottom line - not impressed with the experience - I passed performance lot a lot and there inventory is impressive , pricing great - still I waited - till two friends who are within the arms reach a slap-able distance bought BMW's from them , 2 years no issues - OK OK I know when to surrender ! I now own a " high mileage" Mercedes and a "high mileage" BMW that I bought from Performance - WOW they are honest, accommodating, personable, (both the front of the house and the back) don't make faces behind my back when I come in without warning for some really dumb stuff and they laugh at my jokes! read more

On many occasions Michael has shown his extraordinary skill and expertise in problem solving issues with all of my 1980's Mercedes diesel cars and keeping them running in top shape for many years. First of all I've been coming to Performance Imports for years for my BMW x3 and have normally had a good experience with the repairs. But after getting my car repaired last week and paying upwards of $1500 I was left stranded on the highway for hours after picking up my Car, I assumed it was fixed or at the very least test driven! Aside from the additional tow from I-684 ($250) not bad enough I now found that additional repair ($500) should of been caught from the begining. Now for me my time is more valuable and I felt at the very least Don, Mike or Dianne could of expressed some responsibility for the situation but instead they lied to me about "making things right" and "taking care of me" because when I pick up my car not only was I charged full price for both Parts and Labor they did nothing in terms of making a long time customer feel taken care of but rather insulted. Needless to say i'll be looking for a new repair shop and dealer for my BMW needs. I too feel scammed!!!! read more

This is one of the best car dealers and mechanics for imports around. We drive an hour just to make sure they work on our cars. It is a family owned business and you will feel that right when you come in. They treat you like family - and your car is their car, so they will investigate and research until they have solved the problems. We have also purchased 4 or 5 cars from them over the years. Just a heads up about this dealer. MAKE sure if you buy a car here that everything is in WRITING DO NOT TRUST there words. I learned and ended up cost me money. The car I got was inspected, I drove it home and got a error about brakes. I checked the brake the next day guess what the pads were worn out. Then the car needed a spare tire guess what the tire they got me was the wrong size. Then was stopped the next day guess what no middle tail light. They were to get me a new arm rest cover. They could not find one but was going to keep looking for one. The owner told me I could spend 75.00 if I found one and they would repay me for it. GUESS what I found one but they would not pay me for it. Also for got one more thing the high beam on right side also was out. Remember this car was INSPECTED. NOT. Feel scammed by this auto shop! Don't take your car here - there are better options. - I picked up my car and there was a large dent on the roof - it definitely wasn't there when I dropped it off and Performance Imports denied doing it - charged me $122 for a diagnostic - told me I had $6,300 worth of repairs. - after I paid, they brought me my car and then denied putting the dent in it. They said they didn't do it because they only drove the car a few minutes and parked it - I said how did you get to $6,300 if you didn't even look under the hood or put on a lift! They said when they drove it they could tell clutch needed replacing and based on age and history of car, the brakes needed replacing - WHAT!!!!! - I asked them if they wanted to buy the car, they said it wasn't worth much but they would dispose of it at no charge or I could donate it. When I left the dealership, I went to the Audi dealership and they bought the car for $2,600 and would have given me more if there wasn't a big dent on the roof! What scam artists Performance imports are. I have tried to work with them - Ron is a nice guy but 3 times I have called to tell them how upset I was and I have asked only for the diagnostic fee back - he says he will check with the owners and call me back and he never has. Worked with the owner Diane on purchasing a 2006 Porsche Cayman S. I had the vehicle pre-inspected by the mechanics at Danbury Porsche at my cost ($300) who gave the vehicle a clean bill of health. The very next day I drove out to Performance Imports to visually inspect the car and take it for a test ride. Afterwards I worked with Diane on a punch list of small odds and ends the vehicle was missing and/or needed which she agreed to take care of. We observed some scratches on the rear bumper and it was decided that she would have her body shop look at this because there were some paint concerns matching colors. We agreed to speak later in the day which we did and i informed her that I would follow up with her first thing the next morning on whether or not I was going to purchase the car. She informed me that if someone came to the shop to look at the car, she would call me first before she made any deals. The following day I sent two messages with via emal & txt informing Diane that I wanted to buy the car, my purchase offer, and willingness to give her a $1000 deposit to hold the car. I never heard back from Diane until late Monday morning, two days later when she advised me she had sold the car- Very unprofessional business practice. Unless your prepared to deal on the spot, don't trust their word. If you can afford to buy a pre-owned luxury automobile, my suggestion is, purchase your next car a dealership which is monitored & audited by the brand and take greater pride and integrity in the deal. read more

Buyer beware. Last year I purchased a beautiful BMW for $23k with 68k miles. Eight months later and $6k worth of serious mechanical issues, this car was clearly a lemon. I told Performance that I wanted to trade the car towards something more reliable. They offered me $10k towards a car in their inventory or $10k cash and were not willing to help at all with the repairs. Worked with Dianne over the phone, had a test drive with Jack worked with Mike on some of the final details. All were fantastic to work with. These are car folks who know their stuff. Seems like they tend to focus on having interesting cars in their inventory. They had a manual BMW 335i sport package sedan (which isn't the easiest car to find). The buying process was hassle-free and pleasant. They gave a 60 day warranty with purchase. After purchase, I had a small problem with the car and I worked with Ron in service to resolve the issue.
