I brought my Mazda Miata here to request a cleaning of my Intake Manifold and EGR valve. Ray quoted me $504 for these two parts to be cleaned. I felt that it was pretty expensive but proceeded anyway because my check engine light was reading p0401 (EGR flow insufficient) They held my car for only about 3 hours. I was pleased with the quick turnover time but soon after I learned that part of the work I was charged for was NEVER even done. On arrival, the same check engine light illuminated within 1 minute of starting the car in their parking lot. Ray cleared the code with his computer and said to call him and schedule a new diagnostic check if the light comes back on. Sure enough the next day, the same check engine light came on again... I learned how to unbolt the EGR valve myself that day following some youtube videos, and it was then revealed to me that Ray NEVER EVEN UNBOLTED THE EGR valve, Nor did he clean it. (He did clean the intake manifold and provided pictures of that, but there was no evidence on his end of ever even unbolting or cleaning the EGR - which i was charged for) The pictures i've attached showing the completely CARBON CAKED egr valve will speak for themselves. Of course I did not trust Ray and Performance Haus to be honest with a second followup so I did not care to call back. AVOID THIS DISHONEST SHOP AND TAKE YOUR CAR SOMEWHERE ELSE - THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF. read more

I was looking for a new repair shop after I felt I was being taken for granted at my previous mechanic. I had been going there for over five years and was apprehensive about bringing my Volkswagen there again after I spent over $1500 the last time, which did not even fix my initial problem. Needless to say I wanted to try a different place because I was tired of the loud humming noise and my old mechanic telling me it "came from my new tires". Something was telling me otherwise. I decided to visit Performance Haus Volkswagen after driving by it so many times. I called and set up an appointment two weeks in advance. When it was my appointment day, I brought my car and everything was taken care of promptly. The owner explained what needed work and finished the same day. Reasonable prices. I did not hear the humming noise and felt a positive difference in the car. Will definitely bring my car back! read more

Took my car in because the check engine light was coming on. It was in there for a couple of days told me he had to do a diagnostic check which would cost $149. When I went to pick up the car he told me it was a gas cap I was charged $181 granted he charged my battery for nine dollars and replace the gas cap for $25. It's just really disappointing to want to trust mechanics these days I should've picked up the car and just thrown a gas cap on it myself. Most expensive gas cap I've ever paid for. read more

I brought my Speedster replica to Performance Haus for servicing and inspect the reason that the rear, passenger tire was locking up when I applied the brakes. It is basically a 1970's VW bug with a fiberglass body placed on the frame. I have owned this vehicle for 39 years, I am new to Dana Point, and feel comfortable with this repair shop. The staff was polite, knowledgeable, and the price seemed very fair for the work involved. Performance Haus is now my new destination for repairs and maintenance ! I am confident that you will be pleased, too. read more

Gary Is great, will give options on fixed, must fix, future, can wait. He is honest and hard working, I just purchased a used VW Passat and he went over it with a fine tooth comb. I will continue going back for all future repairs. read more

Yesterday I brought a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport XLS I had recently purchased to Performance Haus. The truck had suddenly began spewing oil and transmission fluid, and I feared the worst. Ray and his team went above and beyond even my highest expectations. The entire process from start to finish was open, honest and professional. And today the truck is running like new! I'd recommend Performance Haus to anyone. read more

Just got my car smogged and loved this place. Friendly staff, quick, and a discount for paying with cash :) highly recommended

These guys were so great to work with. I have an old truck and I get nervous every 2 years that smog time comes around. It wouldn't have passed because of a missing gas cap but before the test he looked at it and grabbed one from his warehouse before the test started. I know it sounds crazy, but other places would've failed it and charged the customer just because. read more

"The BEST auto service in Orange County!" I recently relocated to Orange County. I was anxious to find a good and honest auto shop to service my classic German sports car. Several friends and family members said, "No worries! Ray at Performance Haus in Dana Point is THE BEST Auto Mechanic in Orange County." And they were 100% right! 2 days ago I had an unexpected emergency with my cooling system. Ray patiently explained what needed to be done. He fixed the problem perfectly in one day. . . and at a very fair price. I'm thankful to have found him. If anyone needs a great mechanic- take your car to Ray at Performance Haus. You'll be glad you did!!! Marcia Marinovich read more

AWESOME-That describes Performance Haus perfectly. On two separate occasions we have suffered some pretty serious mechanical issues that were very unexpected. On each occasion we were on a very tight time schedule to have the repairs done. Ray is the shop manager and on both occasions he got our cars in immediately with the repairs done in a very expeditious manner. A business could not have a better representative than Ray. He is a kind man who goes above and beyond to take care of his customers. Performance Haus gets my highest recommendation. Great shop, Great mechanics, and a great clerk/receptionist in Claudia. Thank you again Ray and Performance Haus. read more

I am grateful a shop like this is in town. You call and make an appointment for service. If your car needs anything other than what you came in for they let you know. They do not sell ridiculous add ons or services common with many service shops (including dealers). Their prices are reasonable and their work excellent. read more

The people at this shop helped us out when our VW van had an issue while on the road. Good people to work with and fit us into their schedule . When researching a place to get a VW worked on this shop came up repeatedly. No wonder , nice people and they took great care of us . Highly recommended. read more

Ray is the best, most honest mechanic I've found since moving to Dana Point 3 years ago. Any time I've had an issue with my 2003 Chevy S10 he's been quick to diagnose it, give me options, and fix it. I thought I'd lost a good mechanic when they moved from the Shell station last year but thank god he's at Performance Haus now. I will never take any of my cars anywhere else. If you're looking for an HONEST mechanic that will give you a clear answer on what's going with your car, look no further. read more

Don't go here... I'm not the first one to basically rudely get thrown out for having the wrong bus year. Listen here you kooks... Just because you can't time a dual carb don't make the customer feel like they are the ones with the problem. You kooks can't time it because it's a " hassle " makes you look like an inferior mechanic... Which you are. If you love your VW, take it somewhere else. These guys are rude, even to the point of insolence and immaturity. How can I leave NO star ? read more

Very DISHONEST. All they want is your money. I brought my car in for my back light to be replaced and they said they " changed the blub" well fast forward to two weeks later my whole taillight was out and they said it was a "socket issue" I took it to two other repair shops and they said NO ALL YOU NEEDED WAS A NEW LIGHT BLUB. I don't even think they changed my light and just charged me for it. These people are very dishonest. DO NOT GO HERE. I spent a lot of money for no reason on a damn light blub that wasn't even replaced. JERKS read more

"Excellent Auto Repair!!" It's so nice to have a auto repair facility that you can trust and that goes above and beyond to service its customers. Ray is well educated in car repair issues and usually figures out your problem before you leave the shop. Thank you Performance Haus!! read more

My GMC Sierra truck had a leaking front shock absorber after 145,000 miles so I took my truck to Ray to replace both front shocks. These were expensive special order parts because they are electronically controlled. The installation went smoothly and it made the truck ride like new again. After a few weeks I noticed there was another leak from the new right hand shock. I took it back to Ray, he removed the leaking shock which had a failed seal despite being a brand new factory part. He dealt with getting a replacement under warranty and installed it all on the same day, which was the Friday after Thanksgiving. When I picked up the truck the charge for labor was zero, despite the problem being with the part not how it was installed. I call that outstanding customer service and so I will continue to use Performance Haus for my repair needs and I'm happy to recommend them to anyone in South Orange County needing work done on their vehicles. read more

I had a problem with my entertainment center in a 2003 Cadillac SRX. Ray explained all that needed to be done and that it would take a while since the unit had to be sent out. I took the car in for Ray to remove the unit and send it out to have rebuilt since that unit was no longer available from the factory. Ray quoted me a price. Ray called me when the unit was ready to be installed. I took the car back and left it. Unknown to Ray, the company rebuilding the unit did not inform Ray the unit would have to be finally reset to match the VIN as a means to prevent auto theft. That required Ray to take the car to the Cadillac dealer to have that done at an extra expense. Ray was probably now out of pocket on this transaction. However, as a man of his word, he did not change his quotation to me. Ray showed himself to be an honest man. For that reason, I will continue to have him service my car. read more

I moved to Dana Point a couple months ago leaving my trusted mechanic. Came across what I thought was a small oil leak and decided to bring it to Performance Haus as they were across the street. What I thought was small turned out to be a bigger issue than a stripped oil plug. Water pump and belts needed to be replaced costing over $1,000 in repairs which I was not expecting especially days before vacation. Heading out of the door to leave for Labor Day weekend I get a call from Ray saying that he was not going to change the water pump nor the belts. Confused for a second he explained why. The clip to my oil dipstick broke hence the major oil leak. There was no oil in the water pump not on the timing belts enough to replace. Ray could have changed everything out and made the extra money of unnecessary repairs but was honest and thorough with his work. Rays honesty and trust by saving me hundreds of dollars will keep me coming back for future repairs! Thank you so much Ray! read more

I have brought my vehicle to Performance Haus twice. Gary and the guys are exceptional. My experience BOTH times is that they go "above and beyond" to make the experience pleasant. No one likes to go to the doctor or to the car doctor. But, it's important for longevity. Never miss a check up. It sure makes the experience much less grueling when you've got a good one (doc/car doc). Good ones are hard to find. Great ones are even harder. Gary and they guys are GREAT! Super personable and HONEST. I'll be back. HIGHLY recommended. read more

This place is great! I've been taking different vehicles for service at this location for 25 years and I've always receive the best service. I came in here for a smog check after seeing that they services Honda as well as VW. I was in and out in 15 minutes, and Gary was super friendly and totally professional. Very competetive pricing for the work, as well. The shell station across the street wanted 3-4 hours and almost twice as much as what Performance Haus did. I'll be coming here again for work! read more

I just had my 1976 VW Bus serviced here and was very impressed. They checked the whole bus out for me and advised on a few things I kind of knew needed to be done. Overpriced!! And I heard them talking smack to one another about me, guess they thought they hung up the phone first. Never going back!!

Did came in with my '89 Westy with rear wheel grinding problems and Gary told me they could get to it a little later the same day. They did find out that the previous owner made some mistakes working the brakes. Gary fixed it for a reasonable price same day with no appointment under just 2 hours. Very friendly and knowledgable. Would return any time! read more

There was no dispute on the smog check. The issue is that there was no discussion of the diagnosis fee. No estimate of service was provided In writing for the diagnosis, only the smog check,-/ I have all the paperwork that was provided. The only time that the cost was written was on the receipt. Even more disappointing than the price is the dishonesty shown in the response. Poor business practices and dishonesty is what you will get at this shop. Buyer beware. read more

I stopped by for a smog check, and it took only 15-20 minutes. Everything was fine. Ray, the owner, was super nice and helpful. While there, I couldn't help listening to his customer call backs, including a walk-up customer question and instructions to his assistant. It struck me that Ray is clearly very experienced in all types of car repair, he is very helpful in explaining details to customers and he gives honest advice on car repairs. His assistant was wickedly good at researching and locating miscellaneous car parts and costs on the internet to help their customers. I think you will be VERY happy by getting your car serviced here. read more

We were traveling a very long distance and our car was overheating. We searched the area for a reliable automotive repair shop that was open on Saturday. We would highly recommend this business. read more

I began taking my VW's to Gary in 1988, and from then on, that is the only place I took my cars. He serviced my Jetta, my BMW, my Toyota Highlander, my Toyota Camry and my VW Cabrio (which I recently re purchased from my buyer). It's a convertible, what can I say. Since I repurchased the VW I'm heading back to Gary and Performance Haus. They are the absolute best and I would recommend his shop to everyone - no matter what you drive.
