I upgraded my 110 to a 117 and now my 2017 HD Dyna Lowrider S is a God Damn Monster!! and runs flawlessly thanks to the ENTIRE crew at Performance Choppers. If I could give Performance Choppers more than five stars I would!! It all started because I was trying to find a place to upgrade the motor on my Harley Davidson and I knew I would need to also have it Dyno tuned so I was searching for a one stop shop, lo and behold I went on Google to search around and Performance Choppers popped right up and had my attention because all the reviews are positive and they say that Mikey is the best Dyno tech in San Diego and that's all I needed to hear! I called and spoke with Joe and he was able to get me a quote by the next day for all the work I wanted to have done, now let me say my work schedule got in the way of everything but they were able to accommodate me in every way and we're treating me as if I were family or a long-time customer even though it was my first time having work done at their shop, we pretty much only communicated through email or text due to my job but I was able to give Joe my credit card over the phone to get the parts ordered and once the parts arrived they let me know and I left work early to drop off my bike! It only took a few days for everything to be completed and where they really helped me out is because I couldn't be there to see it fired up and run on the Dyno because of my job so they shot a video of it and put it on their YouTube page for me to see and that was awesome and made me thrilled that I was giving my money to company that actually cares about their clients. read more

I remember growing up when your local mechanic did not just expect your trust but earned it. They use to explain what the problem was and then show you your old parts and explain what happened and why they doing the work necessary to repair the damage. Performance choppers is one shop that still operates this way. They take the time to explain what went wrong and what is necessary to fix it and suggest options if you want to improve your performance to better than factory specs. They are honest and don't just suggest upgrades or work that is not needed or not worth it. In fact two of my friends recently went to them to inquire about upgrading their motorcycles and were talked out of doing the upgrades because the upgrades were not worth the investment. (Cost more than the increase in performance warranted). Their prices are very fair and the quality of work is undeniable. And if you want to squeeze every ounce of performance out of your motorcycle, consider having them dyno tune your bike, you won't regret it. I have a 2011 CVO Softail Convertible with Vance and Hines slip on mufflers, it ran fine but had decel pop and ran extremely hot. I talked to Vance and Hines about thier Fuelpak for tuning my bike but they didn't support the CVO for that year. The people at V&H told me my best option is to go to a reputable tuner, and this is where Performance Choppers comes in. I travel all over the country for my job, and my bike goes with me everywhere, so I could have literally taken it anywhere in the US. I researched and talked to a lot of people, but Mikey and the people at Performance Choppers took the time to explain what my bike needed, and what they were going to do to get it there. I hung out with them in the dyno room the whole time Mikey was working on my bike, they didn't try to sell me a bunch of crap I didn't want or need, or throw out some outlandish torque and horsepower numbers to make me feel better about my bike, they did exactly what they said they were going to do. When Mikey got done, my bike is a completely different bike, great throttle response, smooth put you back in the seat power all the way through, and last but not least, it runs a lot cooler, the low end ping and decel popping are a thing of the past. Have had three of my bikes into the shop. A Dyna where the cam follower denigrated and contaminated the whole engine. PC tore the whole engine down, showed me the damage and gave me a few options on repair. I followed their advice and put a aftermarket follower and new cams in and WOW.... got me a hot rod... bike has been running great ever since! Second bike was a chopper, an Ultra frame and S&S motor. Bought the bike with issues, blown head gasket, leaky master, aftermarket ignition which was tuned to the max (most likely causing the blown head gaskets) anyway they got everything fixed, proper tune and it runs great... again, gave me options and advised best bang for the bucks to repair. Third bike an SPCN Ultima frame and motor I bought, it came with back yard wiring (dangerous taped connections and just general crappy work) PC did a full factory schematic rewire, raised the handle bars which used to hit the tank, added new tires and adjusted the rear spacing .no more rubbing, and made it cool instead of the "rat" bike it was... Bike runs and looks great.... plus its now safe and has a factory wiring scheme. Just got a 2014 Street glide with a couple of minor issues and guess who's going to work on it.... Performance Choppers of course..... never a doubt! These guys are the best in the SO/CAL area if not the whole west coast! read more

Several years ago Performance Choppers and I collaborated to severely upgrade a 2009 RoadGlide. All aspects of the build were considered. Ultimately, engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, lighting, seat, special electrical, exhaust and tune were addressed. Performance was thoroughly prepared and more than capable of doing everything it took to complete what I hoped to accomplish. By the way, if I suggested some modification that might compromise a sensible build, they had no issue with diplomatically discouraging me from doing it. Thankfully their breadth and depth of knowledge won the day often as well it should have. I now live in Prescott, Arizona, 440 miles from El Cajon. Recently I chose to do some additional and significant work on this bike and took it without hesitation to Performance. There is no other shop that I know of in which I would place such a high degree of trust. Of course, any shop can make a goof, an error or an omission. I took my 2005 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic to Performance Choppers. In the future any service I need for the Harley this is the go to shop for service and repair. I did take it to Grove Cycle and that was a FATAL Mistake! It started with a oil leak and Grove Cycle would not fix or address the problem. This is were Performace Chopper takes action. After all the seals were replaced by Grove Cycle, the oil was still leaking. Joe and team found the problem. Grove Cycle forgot to tighten the oil filter to specs. Problem Solved. Performace Choppers found other issues that were missed by Grove Cycle after full service as well. Guess what? Performance Choppers is the answer. Don't make the mistake like I did. With my warranty being expired on my 2017 CVO Limited, I went to Performance Choppers for my 60k service. Speaking with Joe over the phone made the decision easy. He went over everything that was to be done plus had additional recommendations that needed attention which he called me on for authorization with no pressure to myself to get done, my choice. Needless to say, I had EVERYTHING done and my motorcycle feels like a completely different motorcycle. It feels tight, responsive and smooth. I have never felt what I am currently feeling when my bike was worked on across the way to maintain my warranty. What tour shop did is magic! I will definitely be going back. i recently rolled in on my my adequately powered 09 Train& met this dude named Hans (I thought he was Arnolds cousin) about a Dyno tune and some pipes I had ordered (Samson Street Sweepers) to make a long story short Luke installed my pipes for 95 bucks (fair enough) and I stayed with Mr. Colvin for 9 hours as he tuned my Bike to a "T" and explained every thing so well as he went along... to make a long story short those dudes took my Bike and unleashed the Beast I never knew existed. I rode it 600 miles to prove to myself what its got ...More Torque,Power and Sound than I could ever dream of. I been riding for 40 years and never have I loved it more than I do now. *You get what you pay for here. -Still cheaper comparatively if you figure having to pay Harley mechanics to do the same work order several times. *Have a definitive plan and know what you want! - I can't stress this enough, as a customer who has Luke work on areas I that I KNOW he would be much better for that specific job. And I'm not the only one... We customers are tired of having our bikes stuck in "the waiting line" because you still don't know "what oil to use and what luke suggests." Bring ypu indeciveness to el cajon harley and they will be happy to play fck-fck games. -do your due diligence and research before coming here. He is not going to tell you how to build YOUR BIKE. Needed a no BS assessment on a used 2012 FXDB I just bought. They gave me one. The Name Brand wanted nearly $900 for "diagnostics"(plug in a computer) and "maintenance work" (oil change and few bolts tightened). This crew gave me an idea over the phone of what might be going in with an awesome quote. The damage was $400 cheaper than Name Brand all in for repair and maintenance. They said it over the phone and to me in person. They want me to keep coming back. They want to give people the best value in service possible. Well, these guys TRULY do it! Too my 2013 FLHX in for an Oil and Tranny fluid change. No problems. In an out in under an hour at a decent price. Then had to take her back to check the starter, battery, charging system, etc, etc because she wouldn't turn over and kept draining the battery. Took a couple days for them to see the bike, as they were a little backed up. Totally cool though. Got a call first thing Monday morning to let me know what the issue was and several ways that I could fix it myself. Since, I saved money, i decided to have my brake pads done as well. Was done by 2pm. Couldn't ask for better service or people. I don't trust many people to turn a wrench on my ride, but these folks will certainly have my business and referrals after the solid(s) they did me. Thank you Performance Choppers!!! read more

Great shop! I originally went here to have work done on my street glide because of other reviews. First day I wanted some info about which direction to go with my engine, Mikey took me back to his dyno booth and was showing me numbers that certain cams, pipes got and what not. They also did a brake inspection and test ride for free, wasn't expecting that. The only downside is that being the best shop around.. they're pretty damn busy so expect to wait a little longer. But.. all being said I'm super happy with my bike! 2012 street glide went from 103ci to 110ci with 585 cams, ended up making 94hp and 133 tq. Also got progressive rears and man what a difference! they were recommended by the mechanic who rebuilt my 120 st HD motor for dyno tuning And this is where I met Mikey Colvin, their dyno Tech. and Performance Consultant, first impression of the shop and owner and employs was friendly and welcoming, after meeting Mikey and getting an education on the difference in down loading a program and actually tuning a motor, I`m guessing the last three places I have had bikes dyno tuned was just down loaded programs. If you're getting work done anywhere else on your bike then you're getting robbed. Luke has more than once talked me out of modifications that aren't necessary to save me money. No H-D dealer would dream of that. He's gone way beyond what other techs have done for me. Tweaking small things on my bike free of charge and always willing to discuss future plans on my ride. They don't have a problem working on a 20 year old Harley. Local SD dealers won't touch my bike. Dyno. Customization. Manufacturing. A full service machine shop. This is a great shop. It reminds me of what the Harley shop USED to be like. Performance has done everything from simple services to tires, race tuning, and even installed an S&S motor for me. This shop is the real deal. When I laid my bike down they really came to the rescue. Literally, called them from the emergency room to pick my bike up that ended up already being towed. These guys went to the tow yard, worked some magic because they had no paperwork for my bike, and made sure to get it out before it was kept overnight (saving me like $75). Not to mention I thought this accident was going to cost me thousands and the these guys got me back on the road for $700. This kind of treatment goes a long way.
