I gave him a call and told him what the test that O'Rielly's did said. I needed a new EGR valve and all the EGR ports cleaned. He actually gave me an estimate over the phone, which my old mechanic said I needed to bring my car in and leave it over night before they could give me and estimate. (RED FLAG) I took it up to Anna to Ricky's and it was well worth the extra miles from the old place I used to take my car. He assessed the issues, gave me an estimate and was finished with the job in 1.5 hours. The engine light was off, but I needed to drive it for 50 miles at least to reset the computer so I took a drive to Sherman got some gas and meandered back through the country roads to Ricky's with just a little over 50 miles. He scanned my car again and it wasn't quite reset and suggested I drive another 20 miles. I took it down to Melissa, then out on 75 to Van Alstyne then back onto the country roads and it still wasn't completely reset so since it was almost closing time he said just drive it some more then bring it back if you like before having the emissions test done. I will be taking it back up to see him next week as I have not been out much this past week. But I cannot say enough about how personable, kind, efficient, he and his staff are and the place is immaculate clean. And they even have a little humor on the bathroom wall that made me chuckle. I know that honest mechanic can be an oxymoron these days but Ricky is the paragon of integrity, honesty, reliability, intelligence, ethical, and respectable. I highly recommend you make the extra trip to Anna if you need a reasonable, honest, skillful mechanic.

Turns out it was the water pump, and it was throwing a code for the fan clutch, so he suggested I replace that as well - since it had to come off to get the new water pump in anyway. The new fan clutch was unbalanced and failed after driving for a day, ripping its own harness off, causing a short that prevented the vehicle from starting once I arrived home. I called and talked to Elite Performance, and they had my vehicle towed back in to repair it. They switched to another brand of fan clutch and replaced it at no charge. Stand-up guys! I will be taking it back to get the engine tuned soon.

Sure, still charged me $185 for diagnosis. Thought I was getting taken for a ride by my Carmax warranty because they were only willing to pay $66 towards the $160 charge for the part. Turns out that is exactly what the part retails for, checked AutoZone and genuine Chevy parts online. This place doubled down, they reserve the right to mark up the parts as they choose on some margin they weren't able to disclose to me, wouldn't tell me how much they paid for my part, just that they weren't gonna budge on what they charged me. Ladies, make sure you ask ALL the questions, don't let anyone think you don't know what you're talking about before you leave your car with a mechanic shop like this one.

They informed it was just time to recharge the refrigerant and it would be around $430. I said this seemed steep and they said it would be $120 if I did nothing and just picked the car back up for their diagnostic fee, they gave a big pitch about why it cost so much for this type of refrigerant and their work includes a warranty and yada yada. I said fine go ahead. At which point I looked up Autozone's cost for a can of the refrigerant with a gauge and it was $150. So I called them to tell them not to do the work, I would just do it myself. A full 8 minutes had passed and they said "sorry, he's already finished and parking it now." $430 for 8 minutes of work must be nice especially when they don't stand behind it at all. Fast forward to the end of February, it finally had a day warm enough for me to turn my a/c on again and now it's doing the same thing it was when I brought it in. Called them up and they said yes I'm still in the warranty. Take the car in. They determine there is indeed a leak in the valve and argued with me for having the car for a few months since the last time, I informed them that the months between September and February are known as winter and I hadn't been using the A/C. They agreed to honor their service warranty and fix the leak but asked me to pay for the lost refrigerant which is magically now only $108 lol. I was about to resign and agree when Kyle kept on about how the leak wasn't present in September, I told him I think it could have been because that's a big coincidence, at which point he then scoffs and said FINE WE WILL JUST FIX IT THEN. When I went to pick up the car he handed me the card for another mechanic as a way to say he didn't want my business anymore, which was never ever ever in danger anyway. Now HERE I AM JUST A FEW WEEKS LATER and guess what isn't working again? So congratulations on the $430 for a job you clearly did not do. I'll find somewhere else to fix it this time. It is Tuesday, May 26 and after a week of this nonsense that you "mechanics" at Davidson started, I finally received my vehicle back from the other mechanic shop I had to tow to from YOUR shop. (Read that sentence again and understand its absurdity). I had to tow it from your shop last Friday because of the botched work you guys did to my vehicle. My car runs fine now. All they (professional mechanics) had to do was replace the coils. You scammers at Davidson tried to sell it off as a transmission issue, telling me I need a new transmission. Now, I question if you damaged my coils from an improper spark plug change, and I'm sure you guys knew the coils were bad and it was a misfire but you insisted it was a transmission issue even though I showed you the receipts from my two previous mechanic visits that cleared my vehicle in March and April. How did you figure that my perfectly functioning vehicle prior to visiting your shop, that I suddenly, coincidentally had transmission issues after a spark plug change? Your scare tactic did not work on me. Knowing that I needed to start driving to Boston next week, you guys took advantage of that information and tried to force my hand. Actually you guys owe me $80 for that diagnostic test I paid for, and possibly $1000 for my coils you guys damaged, not to mention the time and energy wasted on this endeavor all because you guys wanted some extra cash from me. At the end of the day, you guys did nothing net positive for my vehicle. You installed spark plugs wrong and charged me a diagnostics test for the errors YOU caused. The spark plugs I bought were from RockAuto and researched prior and they are the original spark plugs that Mazda uses on their new vehicles. If the other mechanic can fix and diagnose my vehicle in half a days time, you "mechanics" are held to the same standard and should not spend three days diagnosing a problem and then to say "I don't know what is wrong". FOLKS, PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR VEHICLE HERE FOR WORK. --- Original Post: I'm sitting writing this right now as I wait for a tow truck to tow my truck to another mechanic after their botched attempt to replace spark plugs. Yes you read that right, these guys ("mechanics"", "hobbyist mechanics", "amateur mechanics") can't do a simple spark plug install. Context: I had no issues with my vehicle prior to service at this shop. It was running smooth. I only came in for preventative maintenance and a spark plug change per my maintenance schedule before my drive to Boston. Day 1 - I bring my car in to get a routine check and spark plug change. They tell me after installing the spark plugs there were error codes and say my car runs strange so they want to run a diagnostics test. I say okay and few hours later they said they cleaned the coils and my car is fine as they tested it around the block. Day 2 - I drive to work in the morning. When accelerating on the highway the car rattles and rumbles. The car is basically undeliverable. I bring it to the shop to look at. You would think a spark plugs change is a simple procedure any mechanic can do right, but not here. Day 3 - They get back to me and tell me they can't find any issues with it. I tell them to try again and they call me back and say it's a transmission issue with low fluids. That can't be right as I had my car just serviced for transmission in March and then routine checked for my Texas road trip in late April just two weeks ago (I showed them my receipts) No transmission or any issue whatsoever. Actually the vehicle has never had any major issues prior to this visit to Davidson Car Care. I get my car back and there is a Check Engine Light. SO somehow my car was worse than it was yesterday. How is that possible? What the hell did you guys do to my car? I'm am seriously wondering if they are maliciously damaging vehicles to get repairs done. At the end of the day, these people are careless and unprofessional. Their work standards are not ethical and they are dishonest. The manager is saying one thing while on my receipt for payment it is saying something entirely different. Manager is saying there is transmission issue, whereas the service report done by technician said there was no transmission error codes prior to installation of spark plug. This tells me they are making up stuff to on the fly to make you pay more money. I had to beg them to give me a refund because they did net negative work. It would have been better if I did not bring my vehicle in for service which is in itself an insane thing to say. PLEASE do not give this place your money and certainly do not have them touch your car.
