The first place I went to help was Southside Auto Repair in nearby Deadwood, SD (See my very positive Yelp about them). After fixing an electrical issue, I was still concerned about my engine/transmission. Southside referred me to the Transmission Specialists. I went to the Transmission Specialists and their backlog of work was a week out. At the time, I did not want to wait, and sought out another mechanic to fix the issue quickly so I could be on my way. The new mechanic suggested a new transmission and over $5,000 in repairs, My friends, family, and social network advised me to run fast and far from them. (Beware of the Auto Doctor in Spearfish - I Yelped about them.) After sticker shock, and a good night's sleep, I called the Transmission Specialists and scheduled a diagnostic, a week and a 1/2 away, and stayed in a nearby camp ground for about $250 a week. When the day came, Brian test drove my motorhome, checked everything out, and suggested a few minor repairs (less than $500), and some of those could be delayed and performed by another shop. No new transmission, no rebuilt transmission, and no unnecessary repair bills. Thank you, thank you, thank you Transmission Specialists! As a side note, I noticed that progressive technical related-certifications, as well as thank you notes and acknowledgements from the community, graced the walls of the shop. Brian is a very upstanding, honest guy, and sincerely appreciate his knowledge and expertise. You also may wonder why I gave this shop 5 stars, since they made me wait over a week for service. Here is my philosophy on goods and services in general...You may have it good, inexpensive, or quick - pick 2, you don't get to have all three. The Transmission Specialists are good at what they do, and therefore have a wait list, they were also very cost-effective. I was fortunate to have the time to wait for the expertise.

We pulled into an RV park and began the search for someone who could work on the truck. Several local recommendations later we ended up calling Brian at Transmission Specialists. He was backed up with other customers but, since we were broke down while on vacation, agreed to look at the truck to see what he could do. We determined that a remanufactured transmission was the best course of action and Brian recommended two sources. We decided to order one. Took several days to arrive but when it did, Brian put us ahead of his other customers (again) and installed the tranny. We continued our trip to Georgia and returned home to Oregon. The transmission just failed on the highway -- no reverse, barely moves, fluid overheating and leaking. It's effectively dead. Reached out to the shop and was told there's nothing they can do because the 18-month warranty has expired, even though the mileage is extremely low. I wasn't expecting a full free repair years later, but I was expecting more than 3,000 miles out of a rebuild, and at least some willingness to work with me on a solution. Just something to be aware of if you're considering using them

(ive asked past mechanics). had to spend 800$ more to fix the fuel rails they bent and ruined 2 injectors. small claims has been filed. the front desk guy is a complete rude inconsiderate moron. doesn't know anything about vehicles. these people will rob you. good luck with the small claims

While I was at training a groundhog chewed through my wiring harness. A dog got out and tried to get the ground hog and chewed up the bumper and damaged paint on other panels. I was never contacted about the damage and the exhaust was never fixed until I was back and they gave me the car back with damages never being fixed. Sent the car back to get the grill fixed and so the bumper would stay on properly and headlights would mount. Called frequently and got ignored or told "we don't have time". After months of poor service and quality I got tired of playing games. Car still has damaged paint to hood, bumper and fairings. Lack of integrity and responsibility.

Labor estimate was $500 BUT they were "unable" to tell me what type of flywheel I would need. Somehow their computer couldnt look up what parts they would need to make the repair so my quote was an open ended $1200. They said they wouldnt know until they pulled the transmission....REALLY? They did the work and this may be an oversize. I went to get my oil changed at amazing place in rapid. I am notified that my plug to the transfer case was barely tightened. This was shown to me before they did the oil change. Because of this I give them 3 stars. This could have been detrimental.

I'm from out of state and come to the Custer area every summer. This Year my F350 broke down on the…read moreway to camp. Had it towed to Rapid Diesel. It was at the shop for well over a month for a repair that should have taken less than a week. Parts availability was not the issue. I continually struggled to get updates on the status of the repair via email or phone. When the truck was finally repaired I received an invoice that lumped labor and parts together. I requested a more detailed breakdown and was told they don't do that. I checked with other repair shops in the area and none of them bill like that. This was a warranty issue and I couldn't even tell what parts they received from ford. The lack of transparency in a bill is concerning to me. I had to explain I needed the breakdown because it was warranty issue to get more info. A fact they should have known. On my way home I stopped to check for leaks under my truck and they hadn't even attempted any clean up of oil and fluids spilled during the repair the underside was covered with spilled fluids enough that a film of it covered my tailgate while driving. This place may be good for locals . But they didn't seem to interested in customer service or pride of work on my truck and I can only guess it was because they knew they wouldn't have to warranty any of their Job because I would be in my home state too far away to return. Pretty sad I hoped for better.
