Absolute rip off. They changed the date without my consent and when I canceled upon receiving the notification, they tried to keep $50 as an admin fee. First - We had a few date discussions but selection could not be made until after deposit was paid. Once deposit was given, I asked for one date change, with a week notice, which we went back and forth on due to them not working Fridays. Second - No where in the estimate or any other communication, written or verbal, did they convey any admin fees other than actual paint related. Third - As I was moving into a new home from out of state, the painting date had to be moved to accommodate furniture placement. This was only done with their consent (one time) and at the time of request, I told them any day a particular week would work. They confirmed the change to 14 Sept. However, approximately a week and half later, as we approached the date, I received a confirmation for 15 Sept. I immediately reached out and said the date was 14. Ms. Jathiya responded that yes but since I stated any day that week (over a week ago) they took the liberty of changing the date. I explained that a lot has happened since you confirmed the 14th with work so I couldn't accommodate the 15th due to me planning meetings around the 14th. With COVID, work schedules have been crazy and trying to coordinate availability for multiple peers is difficult so to move a few days before wasn't possible. Anyway I asked for a deposit ($750) refund so that I could find someone else to paint. They agreed. Nearly three weeks later I didn't see the credit on my Amex. I reached out and Jathiya stated she'll get right on it. Well she sends me a receipt and it's for $700! I'm like what the heck. I call and she proceeds to tell me there are admin fees. I replied that you can't charge fees that the customer didn't know about nor agree to. Additionally you changed the date. She replied that the date was changed a few times, I said once, that was agreed to by both parties. She kept talking and I was done. I'm disputing this madness. We had a plaster disaster right in the middle of the pandemic, so after the repairs, we needed the room repainted. I used their website to schedule a consultation with Muhammed. Peppermint gave us a good bid, booked us promptly, handled the payment smoothly online, and did great work. They have excellent Covid precautions, and everyone wore masks the entire time, which I'm sure makes for uncomfortable working conditions, but it saves me fretting of everyone's safety, theirs and ours. Just wanted to warn people away from using Peppermint Painting. I hired them to work on patching up various plaster cracks around my house. I was in charge of tracking down all my old paint colors and buying them so that they would have the supplies. They knew I was having trouble finding some of the colors, and let me know during painting that one green I got was not quite right. I immediately ran out to the local hardware store and got the supplies needed and came back. Well, for the ceiling paint, I had been given the wrong white by the store employees. Instead of telling me (like they did for the green paint), they went ahead and painted all my ceilings with huge patches of non-matching paint. It looks horrendous. Then they tried to charge me $200 to come back out and fix it and were really rude about it. We ended up not letting them fix it because we didn't trust them to do a good job and didn't want to give them any more of our money. Lastly, the clean up was not done well. Paint dust was everywhere, things were not replaced where they came from, and a curtain rod was bent. I have NO CLUE how they did this, but our front door lock (they painted our front door) locks in the opposite direction now. Why on earth would that happen? The guys who came to paint were really nice though. I just wish they had stopped the job when they realized the paint didn't match instead of continuing and charging me for all that labor. read more

I contacted Peppermint Painting after hearing about them from a friend who had a great experience. I had a basement flood which ruined the floors and resulted in the removal of a few walls. I decided to remove all of the paneling and replace it with drywall, a major project that encompassed virtually the entire basement. I requested multiple quotes for removing the wood paneling in my basement, hanging insulation and drywall, baseboards, and painting throughout. I could not be happier with the results. The walls look great and it is a completely new space. While they did the work, they hung plastic over the doorway to the rest of the house and covered the stairwell down to the basement in order to keep things as clean as possible. Not included in the quote, Peppermint Painting also painted over the few walls that were not replaced to ensure the paint was matching throughout. I typically don't go with the lowest quote but after hearing about the great experience my friend had (where he was out of the country, he contracted Peppermint Painting to fix the wall in his bathroom that management had torn out due to a leak, and also where his management would not provide information about the paint color to Peppermint Painting, Peppermint Painting was not only able to not only do the work but also perfectly match the color but also deal with a difficult management company). Shareef the manager coordinated with me via text message because I was busy in the middle of moving and traveling, and the staff member Muhammed who came to do my walk through and the painting job was wonderful. The 2-bedroom condo I own in the Park View neighborhood of DC needed a paint job before the turnover to new tenants; the walls had a ton of scuffs and drilled holes. The job needed to be done immediately, which also happened to be over the Labor Day holiday weekend. I contacted Peppermint Painting after receiving an exorbitantly high quote from another painter. I spoke to Shareef, the chief project manager, on Friday, and he scheduled an estimator, Douglas, to meet me on site on Saturday. Douglas was extremely helpful during the on-site estimate and provided me with two quotes: one for touch-ups only and one for a full repaint of all walls with eggshell finish. Either way, the price was right: the quotes Peppermint gave me were far better than the other painter's. I decided to go with a full repaint and handed off the coordination to my property manager. Unfortunately, there was some miscommunication between Peppermint and my property manager, particularly on the billing side. I won't comment on it because I honestly don't know what happened. The gist is that Peppermint requires a 50% deposit before they will start work, and they require the balance to be paid immediately after the job is done. At the time, their online payment system was not working, so my property manager wasn't able to make the payment. I had to step in and pay the deposit by Paypal so that work could start. Potential customers should be aware that because Peppermint uses Paypal (at least for online payments), the 3% Paypal fee is charged to the customer. Aside from the strict and tight timeframe of their billing policies (unlike a 30-day billing cycle that many other contractors use), the quality and speed of the paint work and minor wall repair was great. They finished the job in one day on Labor Day Monday. Overall, Peppermint came through for me when I was in a pinch on a holiday weekend. And the price was definitely right. I will be calling them again the next time my condo needs major paint work. read more

I recently used Peppermint Painting for ceiling drywall repair (caused by water damage), and I was extremely pleased with their professionalism, work ethic, and the results. I requested a quote through Yelp, and Shareef responded within one day. Muhammad came out and saw the damaged ceiling and gave me a quote for the work. He told me that they could do it as soon as the weekend, but I needed to clear it with my building manager, so he told me to contact him whenever I was ready to start the work (he didn't pressure me at all to make a decision on the spot). The building manager asked for an insurance certificate, and Shareef was very prompt in providing one. Muhammad and his crew showed up when they said they would, and left the area clean at the end of the work day. The next day they came to finish up the work, and even though I was not there to inspect the work, they completed it to my complete satisfaction. I could not be happier!
