From keeping expired products on the shelf like dole mandarin oranges that expired Sept 2024 yet it's Jan 2025... the ceiling tiles are missing in some aisles, the freezers are constantly going down. This store is slightly convenient sometimes, and that's the best I can say about it. It's expensive, for less quality products. I am 100% okay with spending more money if it goes to a local business and thus gets invested back into our local community, but the products need to at least be up to par and that's not the case here, unfortunately. I know from experience they have low quality and expiring items on the shelves. I can't say I've ever experienced any containers having been opened after buying them, but other reviews saying that here is incredibly disturbing to me if they are being truthful. I've just never personally seen it, but then again, I don't make a habit of going here. I know there are expired products, I've seen them, and a little birdie told me that the counter that serves up fresh meat had chicken in stock that was 2 weeks out of date and had turned green. Among the people I know, I call this "the green chicken story." The employees are nice or at least do their jobs properly. Some people on here complained about cashiers not being friendly or talkative, but I've not experienced that first of all, and second of all, cashiers and service workers aren't there to be your friends. They are there to pack your bags and tell you the price. You want friends? Find a hobby group or see what the local library has to offer, instead of complaining about how the cashiers didn't become your instant best friend. Stop acting so entitled, I hate that attitude. Though the business owners are nice people from everything I've heard about them, being nice doesn't mean you know how to run a business, and it also clearly doesn't mean you replace expired products fast enough, either. It's really sad what's happened here. Donelan's was always a little pricey, but their produce, meats, and specialty items were always extremely fresh. They had an excellent selection of unique food items. They had lobsters, fresh fish, fresh salads, and various ethnic foods. The prices are outrageous! More than a little higher. The fruit and vegetables are often expired or starting to rot. I've seen meat that had a green tint to it still in the refrigerated case. They removed a whole section of fresh foods so they can put overpriced beer and cheap wine in. Pepperell doesn't need another package store. Lastly, the store is in disrepair, and is a mess. I've seen refrigeration units not working, shelves empty, no bags for vegetables, freezer burned ice cream, open containers, etc. They are completely understaffed as well. I avoid this place like the plague, and it really hurts me to say this. For 25 years i was a loyal Donelan's customer, and enjoyed supporting a local business, but this place is disgusting now. read more

There's almost nothing good about out this store. It's expensive. The quality is not good. The freezer and refrigerator units don't work well. If you buy meat here, you are doing so at your own risk. It's only worth going here if you absolutely need a canned good or maybe toilet paper. My husband and 7 year old daughter stopped in quickly to get one item. My daughter bought me flowers. When I got home I was surprised to see them all dead! Granted my husband should of checked this but you know guys and he is way to busy to notice. They were $16.99! I can't believe they would leave dead flowers on their shelves!?. Pepperell Quality Market appeared one day, taking over the existing Donelan's Market. Sadly, in the 2 months since the change of ownership, this market has become a large convenience store rather than a supermarket. What I mean by this is that I will run in for a few items to complete a meal where a few months ago I would have done a full week's shopping. I see most shoppers around me also buying a few fresh items and mostly snacks and soda to fill out their baskets. A big part of this is the appearance of neglect the store has, as though payroll has been cut, and the bare minimum is being done to maintain the stock levels and cleanliness. Also, prices are high and sales are not as abundant or clearly marked as one would like to see. Bought a bag of tortilla chips... Got home to find them opened, but TAPED shut. Carrots that were squishy and smelled like vinegar. Expired chips by over 30 days. Queso can that was unsealed/opened. Store is starting to look much better than it has in the past. Focus seems to be moving to more of a liquor and quick trip convenience type store and less like a neighborhood grocery store. I'm happy to spend a little more to support local businesses and have been shopping here for over a decade. While the staff is very nice, the building is falling apart - ceiling tiles falling down, floor tiles disintegrating, freezer lights out. Products that are listed on sale on the shelf do not come up on sale at the register. Manger will not give you the sale price saying that the register does not keep up with the changing sale prices! This market had a slow start. The transition from Donelan's market was difficult but I do believe they are heading in the right direction. They have recently modernized the freezers, upgraded the deli area, and are putting in new floors. They have expanded items to include more natural & organic products and have farm fresh produce. Yes, they are a bit more expensive but if you follow their sales flyer you can get what you need at a reasonable price. They are not a large chain so they will be more expensive but we have to balance that with the convenience of having a market accessible to the community. I enjoy shopping there. read more

Yesterday I checked out this market, needing a few items. I was not impressed and will not be back. I can understand higher pricing (however, double the price on some items (as compared to other local supermarkets) is unacceptable, in my opinion. But, my major complaint is the "best if purchased buy date" on many items. Just one or two days from the day I visited the store. Donelan's was a central part of Pepperell for many years. Then, without a word, it was sold to some foreign company and became "Quality Market" with an ugly sign, the shelves were changed and the meat department fell apart. Just the secretiveness of it made it obvious that they knew they were doing something wrong. Now even a bag of "Best Buy" brown sugar is 30 cents more than any other market within 20 miles! As residents of Pepperell, we feel betrayed. But then...no one cares, but we're finished with that store. Will the reflooring of this less than super market really make up for the super high prices and questionable quality that currently exist here? The answer is NOPE !! They should be forced to remove the word Quality from their name and replace with Convenient. As that is all that it is. Business from the community has certainly dropped off, leaving one to wonder just how fresh their produce, deli and meat selections really are. I used to shop there weekly but now I have to go to Market Basket in Nashua since Hannaford's is just as dirty and overpriced as this market. I will say that the customer service staff is mostly friendly and quick to help when called upon. Good Luck with the new flooring but I don't think this will help Pepperell Convenience Market to grow. Pepperell Quality Market blows Donelan's out of the water. I like it way better, as Pepperell Quality Market holds weekly raffles on Tuesday evenings. I won an entire turtle statue carved from ivory just the other month (August). I find that the selection is also bigger, more produce than I've ever seen before in the world ever (quickly). This is exactly what Pepperell deserves, I am vibing over here, loving it. Every day I breathe in Pepperell Quality Market is another day I look forward to being alive. I hope I can die inside of Pepperell Quality Market so that I can die happy. I just want to die in there. Not really a quality market. I keep trying to give this store better reviews, but I can't. Prices are high, but they were always high, even with Donelan's. However, the quality just isn't getting any better. Fruit and vegetables don't look fresh, and about 1/4 of what I have purchased turns out not to be usable. I now try to limit my purchases to packaged goods and cold cuts, but then today the ham was so bad the deli person threw it away and opened a new package......good customer service. Overall the people continue to be good and helpful, but my spending has definitely dropped about 80%.....I now will go into Townsend if I need to buy a lot of things. I agree with another reviewer.....my shopping there has turned into convenience store purchases and not grocery shopping. To the new owners.......start taking the customer reviews serious and increase the quality, cleanliness, and pricing. read more
