Why didn't I read the reviews before wasting close to $30 to try the food. Also when they said it was extra for "red beans and rice or cabbage" to come with the jerk or brown stewed chicken, that should have been my big warning. No Caribbean accents were detected ... The food ended up in the trash. As much as I HATE to waste food or coins we literally could not eat any of it. Pepper pot is a staple in Jax. I've lived here all my life and there isn't any other place like it. I always get a combination which has chicken, shrimp, beef, broccoli, and a brown sauce over rice. The fruit punch is a perfect sweet combination that reminds you of something from childhood. Even though it's an old staple they gotten with the times and accept credit/debit so that's a plus. There is outside seating only, a drive thru, but locals usually order at the walke up window. There's plenty other Caribbean style, Chinese style dishes on the menu but the combination is so good I can't bring myself to order differently. It's my fave! read more

I respect this business as a staple I. Their community for 40 years but this was not authentic Jamaican cuisine at all. I received what was supposed to be jerk chicken. It was generally oven-roasted or baked chicken with a "brown" sauce that was not jerk but mostly tasted of brown stewing gravy. Rice was wet not fluffy and tender. I don't know what the purple looking slaw was. I was very disappointed. I have not tasted perfected Jamaican jerk chicken here in Jacksonville. read more

I'm hungry and I have no clue what I want. This rarely happens (side eye). Just left a community engagement meeting on the Northside (way north) and the bubble guts were getting loud. There's a line of patrons waiting at this small walk up take out stand! I park as tightly as I can and shuffle around some folks to peak at the menu. I was hoping for calallo & salt fish or ackee - but instead I see shrimp scampi? So this place has the bootleg Queens/Brooklyn vibe. Looked like several mothers were cooking away in the kitchen. Don't except smiles and warm welcomes. Place your order, pay, and step to the side and wait. Depending on what you order. That wait can get pretty long. (First time my patty took at least 10 minutes. But it's so good I couldn't complain - just go in with proper expectations.) There's a small outside patio for those that can't wait the drive/walk home to eat. But most take the food and run. As I'm waiting I notice a super tall built dude that walked out in a dockyard navy blue out fit that said "SECURITY"? Dude really? Me love: curry goat, beef patties(spiced nice), and carrot juice (so sweet). Be ready for all types of goodness. It's inexpensive and portions are huge. Spit fyah and a cuss: limited menu and no true vegetarian options - and no fish This small walk up has been a staple for the area for over 30 years so I don't see them going anywhere for a long time. The combination special, previously know as the "$10 Special" is now $11 but still worth every penny!! I recently found out they also offer red bens and rice in addition to the plain white rice, however they often run out early - I'm normally there after 7:30 pm. Ordered the curry chicken with rice. That is literally what you get. Not even potato with the chicken. Rice was hard as if it was old. Food didn't really have flavor making it bland. If you are in a hurry... don't waist your time! I called the order in, so it would be ready when I arrived. It's a precooked, they serve you, buffet. I was told they do not take call ins, that everything is already cooked and it would only take a minute once I arrived. Well, I arrived and 3 people were ahead of me. I recently had the most pleasant experience and delicious cuisine from Pepperpot! OMG I had their house fried rice & shrimp beef & chicken combo with broccoli extra extra spicy(i ordered my beaux the curry shrimp... But I prefer my shrimp not be cooked as long so while the flavor was outstanding the shrimp were a tad bit rubbery... But he loves his that way! ) All of our food was piping hot and wow prepared exactly as I ordered. I will definitely have these entrees at my next visit which hopefully will be sooner than later since I have to travel across town from the south side to endulge in their good eats!! Man I had an opportunity to go to this restaurant the pepper pot and I was not disappointed everything was outstanding.
