If Pepe's were in Portland, I'd be a regular! Just happened to be driving through Madras at lunch time and noticed all the Mexican restaurants in town so I asked Yelp for the best one to stop at and Pepe's came up first. Pepe's is EXCELLENT so it must be the best in town! Torn on what to order because it all looked good, my server pointed me toward the combination burrito (a small one) which they hand make the flour tortillas for. After asking her about most popular meat options, she told me about their steak. Sold! And btw, the "small" burrito is big enough for sharing or leftovers! The steak in my burrito was very good. Not sure if it's always like this but it was crispy, sort of like bacon. Not tough or dry, but crispy chunks. Blended with all the other ingredients, my burrito was quite tasty. For the other stuff you need to know: Order your food to go or eat there. If for there, you get table service. There's plenty of parking and the restrooms are clean. NOTE: Pepe's is closed from 3-4 p.m. each afternoon to prep for dinner. Then there's the service. My server got my order wrong and did all the right things to make it right. That alone is worth 10 stars but the entire experience was so above and beyond I'll gladly tell everyone I know to head to Pepe's whenever they're in the area because I know they won't be disappointed! read more

Moved to madras a few months ago and had been pushing off trying this place, but definitely should've gone sooner. You call in your order and then go through the drive thru about 15-20 minutes later and have amazing Mexican food. Got the verde enchilada lunch special and a large chicken burrito for $17 !! Great price, great customer service. Will be going back regularly. read more

Don't stop there unless you have all day to wait for your food. Finally got up and left after waiting 50 minutes for my food. Still didn't have my food and they didn't know when it would be done. I swung in here a couple days ago. It was good, damn good. My only complaint was that it was terribly busy and a wee bit cramped. The food was legit, though. It reminded me of the kind of authentic Mexican food you only get at a friend's house (or your own house if your a Mexican with a really good cook for a mom and a lot of relatives that sit really close together). There was an odd thing that happened here, which has no effect on this rating. A woman watched us sit at a small table until we realized we needed to get up to order. She was really short and roly-poly. When I turned back toward my table, the Ms. roly-poly had taken my table and stared back unapologetically with her cold, dead, table-stealing eyes. The fresh, quality food, nice staff and reasonable prices redeemed the whole experience. They had a nice little salsa bar too with all kinds of foreign sauces and pickled doodads too. read more

My husband has been bragging about this place for months, we drive through about once a month. Friday evening we stopped for my first time. Man, it's good. We live in central California where Mexican food is everywhere, and it's one of my faves. This restaurant is family owed and run. Our waitress, the daughter, was so sweet. She told me they started off as a bakery selling bread out of their car when she was little. Her sister would handle the money and she would bag the baked goods. I love stories like that. The food, of which I had the Steak Fajita Salad, was delicious and the portion - large. I've gone to Pepe's twice for their lunch special getting the barbacoa tacos and their verde enchiladas. So good! Reasonably priced as well. I had I social event last Friday and was asked to bring a main dish. Pepe's made an outstanding pan of cheese enchiladas. It was the hit of the dinner, fresh enchiladas, and on the side more than enough lettuce, sourcream,onions and cilantro. They were all gone in short order. Had a great lunch at Pepe's in Madras. We were on our way to the Erickson's Aviation museum so it was the perfect place. Our food was delicious. This is an extremely small building, but in a nice and cozy way. The woman who took our orders seemed to be the only one serving people, but she was extremely nice. Service in general was a bit slow and things seemed to be hectic due to the amount of people who where in there, but she handled everyone well. The food itself was good. Nothing incredibly special, aside from the amazing flour tortillas. Like, those things made the whole meal so much better. The chips weren't that good, but the salsa that was provided was great. I might come here again if I am traveling nearby, but I doubt I would go out of my to come here. read more

Good and authentic. Carnitas wasn't our favorite, but great pastor and pollo asada. Mini rbc burritos were great and they make their own tortillas. The Pepe Nacho was also very good.
