If you know me, you already know... I don't mess around when it comes to tacos. Every place we go, I'm out to find the best taco. We ended up at La Posada Mexican Grill in Madras, Oregon... and this is one of those spots that doesn't try to impress you from the outside... but the food absolutely does. I ordered a carne asada taco and their three crispy bean tacos that they're known for. The carne asada had that real flavor to it, not over-seasoned... just simple and done right and the tortillas... perfect. And those crispy bean tacos... I get why they're known for them. Crispy, flavorful, and just the right ratio of filling to topping. And the salsa bar... this is where you can tell if a place is serious. While it looks simple in the photo, it honestly deserves a review all on its own. Multiple salsas, all different, all fresh... pickled carrots (one of my favorites), and of course, radishes. But the kicker... what really put it over the top for me and sold me on coming back someday were the roasted chiles and grilled onions on the side. That alone tells you everything you need to know about how good this place really is. And I'll say this, because it proves itself over and over again... do not judge a Mexican restaurant by the outside of the building. Ever. It is almost comical how many people have told me to try this place out. Several different Mexican food options in town, but this is a local favorite. Came here for a breakfast burrito. I'd give 10 stars to this place if I could! They have the best carnitas I've had anywhere in the world, including Mexico. The meat was perfectly cooked, the sauces and condiments were fresh and delicious, and the staff were friendly. My husband ordered the carne asada and it was equally delicious. read more

basically ok food. Not actually authentic as enchilada sauce is from the can, visible in the kitchen and bland in taste. Condiments bar has a few salsas, again.. just OK. If you want chips and salsa you will pay an additional $3. A combo plate is priced at 10 bucks for rice, beans, chimichanga and taco. This one must consume with the flimsy plastic fork they give you. Condiments bar has a roasted green pepper that is extremely hot, too too hot even for the most stalwart amongst us. All in all, our bill was over $20 for two, with one person having the combo, a drink, chips, and the other having only enchiladas ala carte. Spendy, all things considered. Won't go back and that's kinda sad. Menu has no descriptions so I had to stand and ask what was in multiple items (I'm not allergic or nuthin', but seriously, what comes in your beef burrito?)... and with the shields and masks it's a battle. Carne Asada burrito was deemed practically inedible (see meat-reasons below). Enchilada sauce in my burrito and fries were great, but the meat was filled with gristle, fat and veins. And we were sooooo hungry so that should've given the product a major boost but alas, not in this case. Gal at the counter was nice and patient. Drive through Madras on the way to Lake Billy, and Taco Bell was closed! It was 10:45 pm! I had never seen a Taco Bell close so early, but Sonic and McDonald's didn't sound good. We passed this little Mexican joint and despite the creepy outside, I had the urge to go. We went and there was an empty car sitting in the drive-in, but nobody else around. I looked for Sopes(my favorite to get everywhere) and they had it! Along with active of other inexpensive things! I chose a chicken taco also. Great prices, and pretty dang good food! The packaging is hilarious and like nothing I've ever seen before, but the food was great! I recommend stopping 100% for something quick and tasty! read more

It's time for an honest review and i won't be back. Twice now I've arrived after 9 in the morning and they are still closed. I want to thank you, you probably saved me from a case of irritable bowels. The building itself is dirty all the way around. The outside, the inside. Dirty, just filth. Ever heard of taking pride in ownership? Please clean your nasty place up. It's safe to assume your kitchen is just as dirty or worse. It should be renamed la cockroafh. On to the food. Once again, not going back. The "chicken" is cheap and fatty. The carne is grissel. They use only the cheapest of ingredients. No cooking with love at this restaurant. Food was an easy 4 stars, and the staff was friendly, but the place was a little run down. The bathrooms are outside and they were out of soap. Also the inside seating area didn't have napkins anywhere and the tables were wiped down, but not thoroughly. I got the carnitas burrito and my wife got the carne asada. I think between the two I would get the carne asada. The salsas were spicy enough to melt the hair off your walnuts, but I had to do the guesswork to figure out the spice level since the only labels were to identify what "type" of salsa they were. This is less a hit on them and more of a commentary of the vast differences some places have when it comes to spice levels of the same type of salsas. For them, they were all mostly spicy. And I'm saying this as a Mexican who grew up eating food with lost of spice. My overall recommendation, go to this place. Get the carne asada burrito, a side of the avocado salsa, and go eat your yummy lunch somewhere else. Also, they do offer carne asada fries, but I did not try them so this is more just to tell people that you can get them there. read more

Stopped in here on a road trip up from California. The tacos de lengua and adobada are by far some of the best I've had in a while. They also include a lot of salsa and some pickled carrots and peppers with your order which is definitely a plus. Definitely worth a stop. read more

Ah, ignore the haters. My family's eaten some of the best Mexican food the American Southwest has to offer, but here in Madras when we want breakfast burritos or tacos, this is where we go. I've likely eaten tens of thousands of calories worth of the La Posada breakfast burritos over the last few years, and I'm not ashamed to say it. The tacos are massive, cheap, and fantastic. The salsa bar has a variety of great sauces to slather over your food, too (six or seven, if memory serves). They also serve menudo, which is great but does *not* come with hominy (which I hear is more a regional idiosyncrasy than a cost-saving measure). It also sells out very quickly, so get there around opening Friday or Saturday or forget about it. A great strategy is to load up on tacos to go from La Posada, and go kitty corner across the street to the alleyway pub to get some beers to go with 'em. read more

Loved it. Ate there 2 1/2 times while in town for the eclipse. Open 24 hours, quite cheap and quite good quality for the price. I like Mexican cooking, but more on the Mexican side than the Tex Mex side. You wouldn't catch me dead in a Taco Bell, or worse, a Taco Del Mar for example. Is it the most authentic Mexican food ever? Probably not. Did it hit the spot, for the right price, at the right time? Definitely. They are not the fastest, count about 5-10 minutes before your food is ready. And it'd be nice to have real cutlery rather than plastic. read more

This is always a morning stop on our way thru town. The best machaca breakfast tacos ever - loaded with eggs, meat, peppers and onions! My man absolutely loves the chorizo breakfast burrito too. The five salsas are all great as well. The food may take a bit when there are several orders but its definitely worth the wait. read more

This is the old Burger Works which had the best burgers in central Oregon. We stopped there year after year going to Lake Billy Chinook. Now La Posada took it over so we stopped. They have decent burritos, decent tacos and I've never had a bad meal there but Pepe's up the street has much better tacos and friendlier people. Their beef burrito is one of my favorites with not a lot of filler. They have good condiments and the salsa is good not great.
