I previously had a poor experience at this location. The other day, I needed an item and they were right there on the right so I umphed a little and pulled up anyway remembering my previous interactions with the staff. Upon entering, I was greeted and asked if I needed assistance. It was great to get what was expected! There were three staff members at the counter, and they were all more than willing to help me this time. I hesitated giving a full 5-stars, but this visit was a 5-star experience. I'm not really familiar with Pep Boys, I tend to avoid these types of places. But unfortunately, part of my package with my dealership, was to get oil changes here. Looking them up, they seemed pretty decent, lots of locations, it'd be nice to have a chain you trust that you can go almost anywhere. I dropped my car off for an oil change and waited about 45 minutes. When they approached me, I was shocked that they had not even started to work on my car. There was some kind of code error, where they could not submit it, so they weren't even able to do any work on it. At this point, in our journey with technology... how is something like this, still an issue. They said there was nothing they can do. I do not have some rare car, it makes no sense. I got my tires replaced by these guys a bit over a year ago, and came in to check out if I had purchased a warranty since one of my tires got an issue. Well this lil guy, Jesse I believe, came to assist and the entire interaction with him was just bad. He's being rude, rolling his eyes, not giving much info nor assistance. I was ready to spend more money here to replace my tire, but decided I'd best look elsewhere because I will not be doing business with this place again. Shame. read more

Went in for a simple in and out fix a flat. After waiting an hour the desk clerk came out and told me the tire was irreparable and would have to be replaced. I insisted on going to the bay and looking at the tire. The hole on the inside was a key hole as opposed to a nail hole and was less than 1/4" wide. When I called BS the clerk went into "the treads are worn on all four tires and if you're going to replace one you may as well replace all four. And there's a band inside the wall that is broken. You can't see it from the outside." I resisted the temptation to waste time on an underling figuring I'd vent here and I am. Their email to me summarizing recommendations showed each tire with 3 to 5 mm of tread. Most states don't require a change until 1.5 mm. The wall crap is just that. And I got the flat fixed for $15 at a no-name place I found just driving around Tucson. That was yesterday. It's fine today and I don't doubt it will be fine for the life of the tire. Research and reading reviews suggests that PepBoys has a policy of instructing their clerks to upsell when possible, and lie when necessary to do so. But whatever idiot in the Pep Boys heirarchy ordered this dishonest policy should take his head out of his colon and realize that you can get away with being dishonest with old ladies and young men who have never changed a tire themselves, but to try this crap with men of a generation who have changed a hundred tires and possibly fixed a few is not good for the general sales picture because it just encourages us to write reviews like this. My perception is that Pep Boys has a glaringly obvious policy of trying to cheat customers out of more than a couple hundred dollars. read more

Absolutely avoid this place because it sucks. I wish I checked the reviews prior to arrival. Ironically, the Toyota Dealership was directly across the street I could've went there so that made it worse. I went in with a light for low tire pressure. I paid for a synthetic oil change and even upgraded to some bogus upgrade package, upon completion I got the car back with the same light on. Absolutely 0 courtesy work (no vacuum, even the sticker doesn't provide recommended return mileage) which would be fine if this wasn't completely over priced and I had no less than 4 upsells attempted to me within the 1 visit. Much different than last night, and they are open until 8pm. The people were very helpful and the store was clean. Update: 3-30-19 I took my car for an oil change and everything started out great. As I waited for my car I kept looking in to see if it's been done and the last time I looked the car was still there I sat down and saw them pull the car out assuming it was done. I waited for the person to come get me and waited and did some work and waited some more. After 15 minutes I walked up to the counter and looked for my service advisor. He came walking out of the shop and I asked " hey my car is been sitting there for 15 minutes and," he replied to me I'm working in the shop on something and then walked off. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one was the gal that helped me check out apologized and was very nice. To top it off I walked back in and told them that they were a quart low on my car because I checked it before I left and the gal said pull around the back we will take care of it. It just seem like a service of visor didn't care at the end and as professionals I would think they would know how to properly fill the oil and double check rather than just telling me hey I looked it up and here's what I called for. I was there "waiting" for 12 hours for a work they created from $99.99 to $1,900 + and I saw, that all the customer that walked there were cheated. This is not the Pep Boys that used to be! Guys did me right again today. Sunday pandemic service had to mount three tires for my trailer after I had a blowout this weekend. $10 per tire and done in about 2 hours. I dropped all the tires and wheels off in the morning and they took care of it and called me when they were done. Good service and friendly guys. Will continue to use this place. read more

Absolutely the worst experience of my life, I was charged literally twice as much as any other mechanic in town (my fault for not checking) and lied to about a coupon/overall pricing. After spending over $1000 and being without my vehicle for a full week... replacing the struts wasn't the issue! Taking the vehicle to another mechanic immediately verified it was an issue with the lower control arm and ball joint - he recommended reporting Pep Boys to the BBB, which I will be doing as he quickly determined there was absolutely no reason to spend over $1000 on working struts, when the issue could have been resolved for less than $200 in total repairs. DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE, THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF! read more

Took my tire in for repair because it was punctured with a nail. The nail was close to the middle of the tread, a good distance from the sidewall and shoulder. The guy working at the service counter adamantly told me that the tire was unrepairable, and tried to sell me a new tire. Luckily they were out of stock or I might have fallen for it. I have been to this location twice. I had to buy four new tires this year and, after calling around to a few locations, decided on this place, largely because one of the sales representatives was more knowledgeable and cordial than all the others. Let's be honest. When we are dealing with buying food, drinks, cars, homes and other items of this sort, people tend to expect a certain level of attention and treatment. So, yes -- I was very drawn to the fact that this particular location had a rep who was very gentle in his interactions, probably quite aware that I was not nearly as knowledgeable about tires as he was. The store is Pep Boys-general. It looks like most every other Pep Boys location you have ever seen. I've already mentioned tires, but they've also got your air compressors, seat cushions, car audio equipment, cables, filters, jumper cables, belts, lights, batteries, gloves, gas cans, jacks and other kinds of lifting tools, storage boxes, heavy duty and curious flashlights, iPod chargers for the car and even those scented things you hang in your car/truck/SUV/wagon/school bus/U-Haul. Anyone still use those little scented things? Anyone? Anyone? Why not full stars? OK -- this place can be crazy busy! Much of the time I was there the staff seemed overwhelmed with the calls and customers coming in. The day I had my tires changed and rotated it took more than four hours from the moment I arrived to the moment they handed me my keys -- including the roll-out inspection. Yeah, like forever folks. But this may be standard. Good news: I walked down the street to the nearby Starbucks and, with my laptop, got some work in for the entire time they were working. So that worked out well. Also, check out that nearby Frys. They have a nice produce section and a cute little deli. read more

If you want to get ripped off then go to Pep Boys. Took my car for inspection to their Patchoque Long Island Store ( the manager is Dave by the way, but don't expect him to help). In New York there is both an Emissions Test and a Safety Inspection. I paid for both but they only did the safety inspection which they were quick to fail, stating both my rear brake calipers were frozen and the pads weren't even making contact with the rotors. They gave me an estimate for over $900 to replace the rear brakes. I've been fixing cars for over 40 years , must have done over 50 brake jobs including calipers , rotors, drums ABS sytems, master cylinders you name it. Told them to fail me took the car home jacked up the car so both rear tires were off the ground, got my video camera out and totally discredited them. I jammed the brake pedal shut and tried to spin those tires with all my might. Those tires didn't budge, I wonder what kind of test they did as professionals (lol). **UPDATED** I spoke with Carl at this store and he gladly refunded me for the work done at Firestone. Thanks Carl! You are a rockstar! Nightmare oil change! I normally get car work done at Firestone, however they were closed for the evening and I needed an oil change before going out of town. The people were nice and the oil change (full synthetic) was quickly done. I left happy until a couple weeks later. After two weeks, I began smelling something burning. There was no smoke, but I was a little bothered by it. I brought my car (2016 Corolla) to Firestone and they had shown me the issue. Pep Boys mechanics did not screw in the drainage cap properly causing the oil to slowly leak out. The oil would spray onto my muffler causing the burning smell. My car had zero oil in the engine. I was a few miles close to blowing the engine!!! I was fuming in anger. So now my mechanics at Firestone fixed the issue and my bill was in the hundreds! Now I need to make sure no knocking sounds come out due to this. Pep Boys will be paying for any and all damages to my car. read more

Back in feb of 2020 had about $3000.00 worth of work on car. I had replaced tires the year before but was told new ones needed come to find out not true. After doing the tires my tpms system doesnt work on two of the tires went back 5 times and recently and still not working. It doesnt seem to matter which one I take it too they are all the same. I will never again do business with this company. I had 60k mile tires that need to be replaced 16k miles early. Ivan in the tire center proceeded to tell me I was neglecting my car!!! I take my car to the dealership every 6k miles for a full service. He continued to tell me I was neglecting my car and blamed it on everything except the tires. He then refused to honor online pricing. He told me I had to buy them online even though it was not an online special. Pepboys.com wasn't working so he told me to call the 800 number. My neighbor decided to sell his Saturn automobile because he was told by the mechanics at Pep Boys at 22nd St. and Kolb that his radiator was bad and that the whole front end of the car had to be disassembled in order to change the radiator. He decided to sell it to me and I happened to be a mechanic. I put my pressure tester for radiators on to it to manufactures specs and I noticed water dripping from opposite side of the engine compartment from the radiator. Turns out it was a heater hose leaking to the tune of between $17 and $25 for the part on Amazon. This is another classic example of someone being dishonest and making all of us look bad if there was a way to put no stars I would. Shame on you Pep Boys!!! read more

Poor experience at this location. Employees were extremely condescending and rude, were unable to find the problem with my vehicle, and refused to answer my questions clearly. Overall very unprofessional service, will not be returning to this location. Giving two stars because they were communicative and discounted the cost of the service they provided after I expressed my dissatisfaction. I had a 'tire pressure low' alert on my car. When I got to Pep Boys they discovered my right rear tire was almost flat due to a nail in it and the tire was not repairable The gentleman who helped me was nice and gave me a good deal on a new tire as the other one was only 6 months old. I would leave a negative star if I could. Don't bother making an appointment because even if you do your car may not be serviced. Absolutely no courtesy calls to their customers to let them know you may have to leave your car over night because they are down men. I drove all the way in town to get an oil change and tire rotation to be told I would have to leave my car over night. Because we only have one service man. The guy acted annoyed with me that I was shocked and said no to leaving my car. Awesome thank you SO much for letting me know BEFORE hand. I'm pretty sure one of the woman standing around could have picked up a phone and given a phone call to your customers who HAD APPOINTMENTS and let them know. Being new to the area I needed to find car care. Took my Pilot for new tires. I knew I had a problem with the front passenger side tire so I asked them to check it. I was questioned..."how do you know somethings wrong?". After telling them the front end shimmys at speed and that tire showed more wear than the rest. They gave me "the we'll check". The place was empty which show have given me a idea of what I was in for. In went the Honda, up the lift and wow a bad control arm. All I wanted was tires but I was talked into having them replace the control arm and have it all done by the end of the day...4 hours later. Cool one stop and done why not? I didn't see my car until just before end of business the next day. "Had problems removing the part" was the only reason I was given. Got the pilot back..... down the road I go... only to see the steering wheel was misaligned. Back I go get that fixed. After all that I still have a small shimmy above 45. I have no interest in returning to have them get that right. My hopes of finding someone to take care of my Honda won't be them. I have no trust that it will be done right. read more

They were the only place open on the 4th of July able to mount, balance, and align my new tires after I ordered them on Tire Rack because of damage sustained driving through the construction area at Valencia & Kolb. Avoid at all costs! While on an outing near Patagonia, AZ, my self and two others blew a tire and swapped it out for a donut (T-Type) spare tire. It was Sunday afternoon and the closest services were in Tucson. Tire shops were starting to close and I knew I would only have time to drive to just a single shop. We called around and settled on this Pep Boys. Big mistake! We rolled up about 30 minutes before their (and every other tire shop's) closing time. Now I had a good experience with a Pep Boys on the other side Tucson just one month earlier when I was in the exact same situation. I showed the clerk the paperwork from a month earlier and she was able to match the tire the previous Pep Boys installed. The service technician took out my old tire and rolled into the bay. That's when Tim, claiming to be the store manager, stepped in and compromised both the mechanics of my car as well as my life and the lives of my two passengers. He halted service on the tire siting "standard operation procedure" that all wheel drive cars must have all four tires replaced and matched. I have gone through four separate tires four separate times with this car and it has never been an issue, INCLUDING AT PEP BOYS. We explained to Tim that we just needed to get home to Phoenix. We offered to sign a waiver. I asked if they could just put the new tire on the rim, and I would install the tire on the car. Tim refused all of these. By this time it was five minutes to closing time, Tim sent us away knowing we would be driving another 120 miles back to Phoenix on the temporary spare tire. By doing this Tim and this Pep Boys jeopardized not only the mechanics of my car, but the safety of all those inside. read more

My last 3 visits- first one, had an air filter installed and they didn't put it in right. There was a 1" gap on the bottom. Granted, it's not easy to put it on but that's what you pay them for. It's a $30 filter and $10 install. Do it right and don't just pretend. Next trip, tire repair (covered by their road hazard warranty)- took them well over an hour when there was no one else there. They are not fast. But they fixed it no charge. If your time is worthless. 3rd trip, I had a gouge in a tire (sidewall, cannot be repaired). The tire wasn't there because the manufacturer is giving a $40 discount (on a $100 tire). They order one and say they'll have it the next day. Go in next day and they wasted over an hour of my time while they tried to find it. I eventually got to leave the keys and about 3 hours later they called to say they had it fixed (they said they'd call me as soon as they found the tire, they didn't). The road hazard warranty on a 4 month old tire with less than 3000 miles on it got me a new tire for $13. And $40 to install. And a $3 disposal fee. So thanks to my warranty, I got a $60 tire for only $55 with tax. And an hour and a half of my time. And it took them 3 hours after I left to get it squared away. No matter how many deals they offer it's going to cost the same as elsewhere, and you'll spend more time waiting. Again, they do what they say they'll do, but you'd best have a lot of free time. Update to add after posting this review they called me and spent 15 minutes on the phone asking what they could do. They offered to refund the $10 I paid for the filter install since it was done incorrectly. It's been 4 months, I've never gotten it. So even after the sale, they'll call you and waste your time. read more

I can resuscitate computers, repair ripped pants, and even re-wire washing machines, but when it comes to cars, I'm pretty clueless. That's why I really appreciate places that help me find the right doodads to fix my little white hatchback, and maybe even give advice on how to do the job. Alas, PepBoys is not one of those places. Not even close. I stopped in on my lunch break because I needed a couple of very minor things: WD-40 to fix a sticky seatbelt clip, and some sort of putty to repair the clips that keep my trunk molding in place. I wandered around for about 15 minutes looking for the two things (and it's NOT a big store), and got zero help. There were no other customers around, there were at least five employees milling around, and I was looking quite befuddled. I even tried to flag down at least two employees with a polite, "Excuse me...?" but they just kept on going. I found something to try to solve my molding issue, but I have no idea if it'll work. It's a good thing I didn't need help with anything more complicated, like plugging in a lightbulb, because it's pretty clear that they don't do that. There are signs outside the store that clearly state that customers are PROHIBITED from working on their cars or performing any repairs in the parking lot. HUH? Guess I'm SOL if my car is in trouble, I buy a winshield wiper, and I want to put it on before I forget how. Next time, I'll head to Autozone instead. It's much easier to get help finding things, and they'll actually give advice if you're as clueless as I am. read more

I sold my home in So Cal and was on the road moving to Florida. I didn't have a chance to get my oil changed and tire rotation before getting on the road, so I went to this location to get the work done. Thank goodness I did! There was a broken bolt on the front left tire. It took them quite a bit of time to get it corrected, I watched thru the glass window into the bay. They were all super helpful and professional. This particular Pep Boys location is the only one I find myself wanting to go back to over and over again. The service not only continues to be friendly, but also fast! Brian Cowherd and the others are professional and know their stuff. Upon paying for any services, Mr. Cowherd always asks me if there was anything they could do to improve their service and always welcomes feedback. (That's rare unless the person asking is the "owner" of a mom/pop establishment) Pep Boys also offers good deals and love the mailers we receive with special discounts. Dawn is another person whom is not only knowledgeable, but knows where everything is in the store and helps me find what I need in a pinch. As a woman, it can be somewhat intimidating to walk into a retail establishment that sells car parts and tools and try to find something I need and not know where to begin to look. Dawn was there for me and her service was great! I love this Pep Boys on 22nd St. and plan to continue using it as my main resource for my car... read more

Went in for a radiator flush, they told me my radiator was bad, I'd need a new one plus water pump, thermostat, would cost over a thousand dollars. I asked them to just replace the coolant and they refused, said it would be a waste of money for me.........charged me $45 for the "evaluation". I went to another auto shop, they did a pressure test and said there was nothing wrong with my radiator, flushed and changed the coolant and I have had no problems. My husband and his friend were left stranded on base because my drain plug (or whatever it's called) fell out and every drop of oil came out. Mind you I had just had an oil change done at this location about two weeks ago. Luckily there is a Firestone on base so my husband took it there to see what happened. Basically the guy at Firestone said that whoever performed my oil change didn't torque or tighten something and it loosened up over the few weeks and decided to leave me and take the oil with it. So I call Pepboys and they tell me to call their towing number and they will have it towed to the store. The tow guy was supposed to be here at 3:40 pm. He didn't show til 5 pm. The communication with the tow company was nonexistent. We talk to pepboys manager. I had the awesome chance to overhear their frustration in the garage that I couldn't get it there earlier that morning which was at the fault of pepboys tow service and the tow company itself. We were told they had no written policies over situations like that and the employee will lose his job (most likely still working there but it's cool). Then the manager told me that this happens at a lot of auto shops when they get busy. So basically a lot of ppl out there in the country is being left stranded because their plugs are falling out. Def not an excuse. With my husband and his friend being military, they would have gotten chewed out for being late so this was serious for us. So they kept the car overnight, examined it and gave me another oil change. They refunded me the money from when I had the oil change done before and a coupon for a free oil change. I appreciated it but as I have always been taught, you don't trust someone to perform the same exact task if they royally screwed it up the first time. So I won't be using it. I am honestly upset about it because one employee there was my ultimate fav. He was nice and funny and just genuinely cool. Almost feels like a breakup lol. read more

I stopped by today to get my tire looked at, as the low pressure warning keeps turning on after I put air in it. I was quickly greeted by Troy, who was friendly and directed me to the service desk for tires. Here is where my review gets 1 star. Guillermo, ( I believe the service manager) was rude, not friendly at all, seemed irritated to have to help me and overall unpleasant. He said it was an hour and a half wait and he couldnt help me. I asked if they were open tomorrow and if I could make an appt. he again was irritated to look on the computer to see if there were openings. He offered one appt at 3, I explained I worked at 2 and he said I could try a different shop. I was walking out and Troy stopped me and offered to call another location to see if they could get me in today. I think he may have heard the horrible customer service from Guillermo and was trying to make it better! Troy called another location and gave them my info, they couldnt see me today but I have an appt first thing tomorrow. I'm sad to see so many negative reviews for Pep Boy's. I've always been a customer with them since my grandpa started going there when I was a wee child. I brought my car in because I thought the serpentine belt was going out on my 2010 Ford Mustang. After they reviewed the noises under the hood it appeared to be a crack in my radiator housing and was leaking on the belt causing the squeaking. The service advisor had contacted Ford for the piece however they were all out and advised that they would call another company that was more expensive but didn't charge me the higher part price. That was sure nice! After that was replaced, an oil change and tire rotation the price came out 300 dollars cheaper than Ford was going to charge me for repairs. I always get annoyed going into car stores or shops because 95% of the men working in the store dumb females down because they instantly assume you don't know anything about cars. Luckily pep boys didn't treat me that was and there was no judgment or strange looks when I stated what I thought might have been wrong. First Surprised on the negatives until I read them. Basically a few people crying because they didn't roll out the red carpet and kiss there butts. Its a auto parts and service center not a 5 star restaurant. I have been here a couple times to buy things. The staff is very knowledgeable, knows the products they have. Being a DIY/shadetree mechanic I do most of my own work. I ha d stripped drain plug that I tried every known trick and googled a few more with no luck. I spent at least 2 hours on my own. So it was expected that I was going to have to replace the oil pan. Thats about $300 job. I also needed my spark plugs changed which requires the intake manifold to be removed which requires a gasket which no parts stores had. Well first off they got the gasket from a dealer at a reasonable price. Did the spark plug job for less than I was quoted at other places. Then they called and told me a experience mechanic was able to extract the plug which translated into a $300 job only costing about $100. All work is guaranteed for 90 days with option of extended warranty. They didn't try to up-sell, they were courteous and professional. They do service on Saturdays and Sundays. Even saved me money when they had an opportunity to get more from me. So thus when I have a job I cannot do or lack the time I will be back. Hard to find a skilled and honest service center. The price of everything was very reasonable and the work was done well. I was in and out of the store in under an hour. As a young woman, I am often brushed aside when walking into car repair shops. This was not the case. I received thorough and clear explanations of what was wrong with the car and what my options were to proceed. It was a refreshingly pleasant and easy experience. read more
