Pep Boys on Ina has lousy service. Not only do they overcharge and delay labor time, they don't bother to follow through. They tell me it will take a month for a part to come in for repair. So after a month passes, I call to verify if the part came in and the guy says "No, I don't know what's going in with the part. I'll call again about the part, it will take two weeks to find out". Yeah, it's already been more than 2 weeks and you never called. You probably never ordered the part in the first place. Don't bother leaving that BS about calling customer service to work something out. I'm done. read more

Was on the start of a road trip when check engine light came on. This was the nearest stop after that could check what might be causing it. William was extremely helpful in pulling the error code and helping us find a dealership nearby that could help us as the issue was beyond the scope of what they could do. When for an oil change and tire rotation at 8am with an appointment. Was told when I walked in at 8 that the oil change employee was not there and would have to wait and they have no clue when he would be there. Then was told my tire rotation could not be done when the gauge was still green when he was checking tread. Wasted my time. Plus the employee had a dumb mask on. read more

The staff is rude from the top down. They installed tires on my car last year, which I was pleased with, and gave them a top rating. one of the tires now has a constant leak. I had some extra time so I stopped in for them to check it out. The kid in the back could not find my wheel lock and didn't think to go on Google or call the Lexus dealership to ask them where the tool kit is stored in the trunk. I pointed out that they would be the last ones to have touched the tires. Suddenly, they were suggesting that somehow someone who did an oil change, might have done something with the wheel lock. Then I was accused of having all kinds of equipment in my trunk - It was a golf bag! which the kid was too lazy to lift out on his own. They never found the wheel lock so they took the car off the jack. When I asked whether they had at least put air in the low tire, they said they had not. I asked them to at least do that and the kid overfilled it to 41 pounds! I found that out after I had left. When I called, they falsely claimed that it was "over pressurized" to look for the leak, even though they didn't fill the air until I was ready to leave. A crock. The manager was all forms of defensive and stated that the equipment they are using is defective and does not Accurately measure air pressure so they mistakenly overfilled it. They blamed me -the customer for their incompetence. All I wanted was them to fill the tire and check for a leak. I guess that was way over their heads. Will, the manager, was a real peach to deal with. read more

I had a tire that was losing air, going flat. Unfortunately I had to buy a new tire. The guys at Pep Boys were courteous and fast. They explained what happened with the tire and showed me the old one. They didn't pressure me to buy the top of the line tire and gave me an honest recommendation. It was also easy to make an online appointment. Their waiting room was clean with nice amenities like water and cell phone charging stations. I definitely recommend! read more

Update (6/16/20) For PepBoys Response: Got a phone call from a Harvey Norman, Dover, DE. (302) 363-0642. Basically, his call was to shame me for complaining about my $800.00 bill for a simple R&R of a $40 water pump. No apology, just a lot of snarky remarks. So, if you left a negative review and you received a comment from PepBoys requesting that you contact them... Don't bother. Their gesture is pure theater to make people who read your comment believe that PepBoys actually gives a flying crap about you... They don't. Ending: Find an honest mechanic and stick with them. PepBoys will only "Stick It" to you. Mine was a 100% totally honest review. ---------------------------------------- Pep Boys at this location (maybe all) will take advantage of your situation at every opportunity. Excessive bogus/suspicious charges are only the tip of the iceberg. If one even questions them about a repair or charge, they become very rude and abusive. Usually my wife will take her car there when she has an emergency situation. Why? Because they are rarely ever busy and she can be seen when other shops are backlogged. Her car overheated on her way to work, she dropped it off and called me to pick her up to take her to work. The water pump had gone out. To remove and replace a $35-40 part with less than 1 hour labor, she was charged nearly $800.00. I don't know about you, but I would say that charge was not only excessive, it was criminal. But that is what they do. If they have any inclination that they can take advantage (like a desperate woman) they surely will. Note: Brake Masters (after the fact) quoted $365 for the same job. If I can pass any word of advice on to anyone who is not mechanically inclined, I would advise them to get a good OBD2 tester and run a diagnostics on your car before ever taking it to a mechanic. Also, if possible ALWAYS get a second opinion and estimate before EVER agreeing to repairs. Finally, I would never in a million years take any car of mine back to Pep Boys, or recommend them to others. There is VERY good reason why their business is so poorly rated. I just saw I have a headlight out and went to go buy it here. I usually do all my auto business with Pep Boys. Yes, they close at 7, and I was walking to the door at 7:02 and the kid walked out, looked at me and looked back down and lock the door. He could've open the door asked if it was something fast maybe he could help? He just ignored me. To lock the door right in front of me just infuriates me. Brought my truck in for tires, oil, and alignment and spoke to Jason at the service desk. Jason was great and very helpful. I asked how long the job would take as it was a work day and I had limited time, Jason told me an hour and s half. The mechanics stood around leaning on the equipment for the first hour, I asked Jason if there was a problem and he told me someone would start on the truck soon. My truck was pulled into the bay very soon after. I then watched one of the mechanics fiddle with an air hose for 20 minutes while another strolled the bay like he was walking to the fridge. Still no action on the truck. The tires are finally being changed an hour and a half after I got here, apparently there are only three mechanics able to perform such delicate repairs to my vehicle....one of the three continues to stroll the bay and I do believe at this point he is lost. It is now going on 2 hours and there is still the oil and alignment to go, I was not aware that I would be staying into the evening. read more

I went in to remove a nail in my tire and was told it would take 15-20 minutes. Although there was no one in front of me, I ended up waiting almost an hour to get my car back. Without me complaining, the clerk offered a 10% discount but the supervisor gave me the service for free. They have free WiFi in the waiting lobby with a tv and access to the remote, so that was useful for the wait. read more

CHEATS! My wife brought her car into Pep Boys to find out why her check engine light was on. The charged $99 for the diagnostics and quoted her $2400 for the necessary repairs. We the took the car to Brake Max and they fixed the problem for less than $600. When I asked for the diagnostic charge to be refunded they refused. They turned around a very bad situation where the desk clerk on my initial visit tried to overcharge me and then argued with me when I insisted that he put the right size battery in my car. I was never going back to Pep Boys and was going to tell all my clientele and friends about the bad experience. Called this morning to make an appointment for an oil change. They told me they were pretty much open all afternoon so I made an appointment for 4:30. I arrived a couple of minutes early, waited 15 minutes to get checked in. My car wasn't pulled in to be worked on until 5:05. They weren't done until 6:40. 2+ hours for an oil change that I had an appointment for. I realized halfway home that they forgot to give me my service plan paperwork back so I had to turn around and go get it. The waiting area was dirty and hot. Needless to say, Pep Boys has lost my business. I'm not quite sure why something that takes Jiffy Lube 20 minutes as a walk in took them over 2 hours. read more

VETERANS BEWARE!! I'm a disabled Army veteran that's relatively new to Tucson and like most people, am leery of taking my car to a new mechanic. These guys represent what those nightmare stories are all about!! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!! I took my Infiniti in for an oil change and was told my rear struts were leaking. I agreed to have them replaced because my car was not driving smooth at highway speeds and was convinced by them it would eliminate the issues. After the $700 repair the problem was still there so I stopped by a tire shop that found one of my tires to be out of balance which solved the problem. My Infiniti's ride never felt smooth after the rear struts got replaced by these guys, but I figured it was just due to the rough roads here in Tucson. I've got less than 3,000 miles on my new struts and the ride has gotten noticeably worse! The rear end has started bouncing as I go over a speed bump or a rut in the road. I can't pin this on them because I did not witness it, but I recently noticed my Infinity logo on my engine has been pried off. I don't tend to leave business reviews, but consumers need to BE WARNED that this Ina Rd. Pep Boys location performs poor mechanical work and has an extremely rude guy working the front counter, who claims to be the store manager, a very unprofessional guy named William. I gave them a chance in hopes of finding a trustworthy local mechanic, man do I regret ever dealing with these guys!! As of writing this, I have complained to Pep Boys Corporate and am waiting for a call from an area manager named Harmon to see how we can resolve this warranty issue. read more

Disrespectful auto care service counter staff and a total rip off location. Went in to have a new battery installed and was quoted an extra $120 service charge to install it. I called after leaving to complain and a different store employee told me $84 service charge to install it. Hum, wonder which cost it is $84 or $120... Regardless, I went to different store on INA Road and purchased same grade battery with same warranty for less with free installation in 5 minutes; no service charge for installation. I saved $149 over Pep Boys quote by not paying the install service cost. I will never bring any of my 3 autos to Pep Boys again. read more

About three weeks ago I was on my way to Pep Boys on Ina Rd. (I made an appointment at this location because of the close proximity to the freeway for test drives) to have a brake issue looked at when suddenly all hell broke loose in the air conditioning unit and it conked out, not a good thing in the Arizona heat. When I arrived Jason got my 2008 Nissan Sentra right in and Mario discovered the motor needed to be replaced...due to a pack rat nest! Yuck. Living in the middle of the desert has it's downs and this is it. The next day brakes & blower motor were repaired and replaced, Mike went to work sanitizing the interior of my car, and I was on my way only to return again with the same issue in the air conditioning unit a few days later. Pack Rats are creatures of habit and for that reason I purchased a warranty. Manager Javier agreed to go into the blower motor again to clean out yet another nest. By this time I called on my Geico Auto Insurance who came out to Pep Boys to survey the infestation and reimbursed me for the damage on the spot. I went to Pep Boys about 30 minutes before closing on Saturday night. I had a nail in one of my tires that I was very concerned about. Instead of sending me away they stayed late to take a look at my tire. The tire wasn't repairable and they didn't have my brand of tire in stock. I'm sure they were all anxious to get home but instead of sending me on my way they insisted on putting the spare on my vehicle as they felt it was unsafe to drive. After a long hard day, they were still very nice and treated me as a valued customer. I didn't buy my current set of tires from them, but I will buy my next set from them! read more
