This shop is a stone's throw from where we stay and it is very easy to get to this location. The shop is big, really big. They did a nice job here and the staff was very easy to work with here. My biggest issue was that we had a 9AM appointment for a tire repair and after a brief discussion we elected to put on four news tires. They were very helpful and explained thoroughly why we needed a complete new set of four and he was completely correct. My biggest issue was that we started at 9:00 and the car was completed at 1:15. That's a long wait and we had a long drive ahead of us. I felt better knowing that we were now safer but... It was a long wait, happily... they gave us a Lyft ride home and picked us up to get the car. That is a nice perk of doing business here. KUDOs to the team at Pep Boys. read more

I called in advance for a quote on front bar links and was told $256. Got to the store, and told $256. On my walk home, got a call telling me I need an alignment first for $124. Why wasn't I told this when I first booked or checked into store? Guess what, I had an alignment at the same store when I got new tires less than 6 weeks ago. I took my daughter's car here for an alignment and they said she needed tyrods also. the price jumped from $145- $946. I immediately told the man not to touch the car, I'll be coming to pick it up. I then took it to my regular mechanic; only to find out that it didn't need triad tyrods... it needed lower ball joints. They misdiagnosed the car, and was trying to run me. I went to visit just for an oil change and it turned out my car needed more work. I had 4 tires replaced and a few other things done. I wish I checked other places like Firestone before making a decision. I was thankful that Francisco was kind of enough to squeeze me in. I really like that they offer Lyft pick up and drops of. Yesterday came with nail on my tire. 4 guys were chilling at the front desk and they look at me first from top to bottom, and when I asked to fix my tire, a big guy asked in the middle or outside, it almost in the middle, rubbed his palms and said, you need the new tire, we can't do nothing! I have almost new radial tires. I'm not stupid and I know that it can be fixed without tire replacement. They just want to rip more money off their customers. Of course I left them and went another tire shop. So I went to Mavis tire and friendly manager got my keys, lift my car with care and fixed tire without extra questions, without extra $$$ as Pepboys try to get - it calls scam your customer! I asked again and he threatened to not return my keys. I threatened to call the corporate company and he finally checked me out after screaming at me. I made a special trip to Tamarac from Deerfield Beach and they said the tire hadn't been carried by them for seven years. I had a flat tire on a Sunday afternoon and I called around to tons of places and this was the only place open and I was so thankful that they had the exact tire I needed and the price was very reasonable. I initally going to give this location 1 star , but due to ONE personnel, Dwight, who was VERY HELPFUL, I reconsidered the rating. I needed to get a headlight bulb installed, and I went to the Service Area - the young man at the counter said if I could come back in 2 days time b/c apparently, there were only 2 maintenance person working. I explained I could not b/c it's my headlights. The young man seemed cluless - this is the only service I've been to so far that made zero attempt to examine the issue. I guess the service counter personnel aren't trained in automotive. The young signals for the gentlemen supervisor the store area for the location, Dwight, who was VERY polite and clearly knew who to interact with customers from his service. He politely informed thr young man that when a customer has an issue, to go take a look and not be dismissive - PRETTY SOLID ADVICE!! The young man joked it his comment and attempted to make fun of me, the customer, as I stood there - this was not ok. I had gone to Pep Boys in Tamarac for years, just 5 minutes from my house and service was pretty good up until about 2 years ago. I had bought 4 tires there a few months before, then went in for an oil change and tire rotation. I was quoted $129 and seemed pretty high to me but had the service done anyway. When I got my bill showed the tire rotation was free, which I had forgotten so the $129 was just for an oil change. It should have been said when having been given the price, that it was just for the oil change, and the tire rotation was free. I never would have paid that much just for an oil change with "special oil" which I did not request. The man and woman behind the counter were unfriendly and not the least bit accommodating. I left and would never go back but a few months later I left my house and immediately realized something was wrong with my car and was nearest to Pep Boys so had them do a diagnostics on it for $99. They wound up putting in a new battery and replacing front brakes for total of $446. By the next day the car rode exactly the same, but I had to go out of town so couldn't bring it back to them until the next week. They said they would have to do another diagnostic on it for $99. I told them to use the one they had done the week before, and they refused. Having no confidence at that point, I went to another mechanic who wound up fixing the problem, which included replacing the front brakes again because Pep boys did not replace the rotors. I felt Pep boys should provide a portion of the bill returned to me, especially for the brakes I spoke to a number of people, at the site and within the region, who kept transferring me to other people then ultimately stopped responding. Also the people at the front desk don't greet you when you come in, were very unpleasant, never smiled. Customer service I would rate less than 1 star. Not sure about any other Pep Boys, but if you find yourself at the one in Tamarac, keep driving and go someplace else. read more

The instrument cluster in my 2003 Ford Focus died, so I got one on eBay. I called my local Pep Boys where I'd been taking my car for service for the past five years and asked how much it would cost to install the "new" one. He said he looked it up and it would be a 5 hour job and cost $800.00. I watched a YouTube video on replacing it and sure enough it was a 15 minute job, so after replacing it myself, I took the old one there and said I'd received this replacement from eBay and again asked how much to install it. This time he said it would be a 10 hour job @ $130.00 / hour. That's when I told him this was the old one and I'd replace it in 15 minutes and why should I ever trust Pep Boys with my car again. read more

Over due for an update, and here it goes...I returned to Pep Boys in Tamarac, and Jamar is now the Manager in charge. I now have a 2019 Honda Civic, and I brought it in for servicing for what I thought was just an oil change and brake fluid flush. The technicians at this Pep Boys have been there for many years and when they inspect a car, they check for everything. They are even willing to show you on your car, that the recommendations are really needed. One of the things I actually needed was a serpentine belt, and while they worked on other things, they sent someone to pick it up that day, and replaced it. I may have had to wait there a bit longer than expected, and my bill may have been higher than expected, but I was discounted, appropriately. I also opened a Pep Boys Credit Card and was approved immediately, with no interest for a year. I know I will pay it off before a year, and with that said I will now be driving with Peace of Mind, knowing my car is in great shape. More importantly, when I am driving my car, I do notice a big difference in how the car functions and drives so smoothly. Jamar and all of your wonderful technicians, I want to shout out a great big Thank you, for a job well done! I definitely will be returning to your repair shop, as needed! read more

I'm kind of mixed in my review for this service location. The mechanic that worked on my car did what he was supposed to do; performed the two tire balance and parked the car. Now the front desk is where my issue lies. I had an appointment for 9 am, my car was taken in for service at approximately 9:05 am. At about 9:40 am i started wondering what's taking so long to balance two tires; so I asked the 3 advisors at the counter "how long does it take to balance two tires?" (not in a nasty attitude, but in a "concerned" posture). A person I assume was the manager stated "it MAY be he is having a problem with the machine". I believe he should have informed me of the issue which was delaying my service. But wait, that's not all; my car was completed at 10 am because I saw it parked in the service parking lot. I asked the mechanic who performed the service on my car was it done and he said yes and briefly explained what he did (10:05 am). The mechanic also said you need to go inside to complete the service order. Well I went back inside waiting to be called up to pay for the service. At about 10:25 am I approached the service desk after being completely ignored and asked " what do I need to do to get my car, it was done 20 minutes ago parked in the back". The person who I assumed was the manager had the nerve to tell me what I had said earlier regarding how long does it take to balance two tires was inappropriate, and that I was not the only person there (that was about the extent of what he said, voice elevated somewhat, but not too bad (I don't lie when reviewing; people deserve to know the actual truth). FYI, there wasn't that many people in the business as the assumed manager portrayed.) Now I was very upset especially after being ignored for so long, and my voice was a little higher than the assumed manager, but never violent, not part of my DNA. I'm not saying they were doing nothing, but if you have a customer waiting and the car is done get them out of there, one less thing you have to deal with. In my opinion, this conflict could have been avoided had the advisors updated the customer on the status of the repair / service. I normally go to Pep Boys that is located in Davie on University, which never really gives me any problems. This time I decided to go to the location that is closest to me which is the one on commercial in tamarac. Worst decision ever. I brought my car in for an oil change like I always do. I dropped it off so they could call me when it was ready. Oil change was quick which wasn't the problem. When they called me to tell me my car was ready, they also tried to inform me that I needed my two front tires replaced which would cost a little over $700 including the oil change. I said no thanks and that I would do that another time (which I wasn't, I was going to take it to another tire shop where I know I could get that done for much less). The man I was in communication with was named Jamar. As I'm on my way back to get my car, he all of a sudden informs me that I need a new car battery which was very strange because there were no warnings about my battery dying. He then says it will be $400 for a new battery and the oil change. I told them no because that price was insane. I knew I could go to a place like auto zone and it get a better price. I arrive at pep boys and as I'm about to pay, he says that my car is not starting because of the battery and that I would have to buy a new one and have them install it. By that point I was livid. I brought my car there in good condition just to get it back worse than what it was. Im trying my best to not pay for the battery so I ask them if they have jumper cables. Guess what they said? They had the nerve to lie right in my face and say they left the only jumper cables they had in a customers car.... Complete bullshit. How are you a auto supply store who takes care of cars with NO jumper cables?! All in all, they swindled me into buying a new battery when I know mine was perfectly fine. This review is solely based on my one and only brief experience with this location. My wife had a flat tire, so I took her vehicle to Pep Boys as the Firestone across the street had closed early on a Sunday. My wife and I walked to the tire counter 30 minutes before closing. Before we could even finish telling the gentleman at the counter that we needed a quick plug or patch, he repeated "we aren't taking anymore cars at this time" in a voice low enough so no one else could hear him. He did not offer an explanation, did not offer his hours for the following morning, nothing. I should have stuck to my guns and NOT gone here. Yes they were open and a guy stayed late to change my starter but I was lied to and taken to the cleaners!! I was told I had to pay extra for a new starter as they had NO remanufactured starters on hand but yet my receipt says "reman" . They insisted I needed a new battery even though I damn well knew I did not. Once I started asking questions about how many volts my old battery tested at, I was expedited and out the door in 51 minutes. 12:30- I told the service desk that I needed front breaks and that I had a coupon from the mail. They said the wait would be about an hour and then 30-45 min to do the work. 3:30- They finally got too my car and I was told I needed front breaks. They said another hour for the work. 4:45- They inform me that I'm going to need new rotors which costs over $100 more. 5:30- My car is finally done and now the guy doesn't want to honor my coupon that I told him about in the beginning because of a mail in rebate they do automatically on the breaks. These guys should tell you the truth from the start about discounts and if the coupons work. They should tell you the truth about wait times, every person was told about a 1 hour wait and they all sat there for at least 3. The place was chaotic with nobody around to answer the phone. When the workers were around they were extremely rude. They locked some guys keys in his car while I was there. Some old lady waited 4 hours for a oil change. When my car was done being worked on the mechanic was just leaning on my car for additional 15 minutes in the parking lot with his girlfriend right there... her or any random person could have gone threw my car and stole whatever they wanted too. I've come here a lot over the years to have my tires plugged or replaced. The staff has always been friendly and helpful when I've gone but I will admit that sometimes they are pretty slow with doing the work. It looks like they may work on multiple vehicles at a time but in my opinion, it shouldn't take 40 minutes to check one tire, plug it and fill it with air. I definitely recommend making an appointment and definitely making it for first thing in the morning. This place gets pretty busy quickly so the later you get there, the longer the wait. Prices seem fair and equal with other companies. I noticed that they also have a drop box where you can fill out a form of what you need done, and you can drop that with your keys if you want to drop off your vehicle before or after hours. read more

Long history with PepBoys in many other locations and states. This one is close to my house so I frequent this to service both my cars. This particular location for me means multiple trips and poor scheduling service. Miscommunication is a big one here. To be specific, purchase tires one day and setup the appointment for the install 2 days after. I was told that the tires are on stock and ready. I still kept my appointment to get them setup 2 days after the purchase as i had other things to do. Time for the appointment comes and a mechanic issue with the door of this shop prevented them to align my tires, so I was referred to go to the 44th street location instead. I go to this location and proper coordination wasn't in place between this store and the other. Come to find out the 44th store (kudos to Jose which helped) didn't have the tires as they didn't make this sale. The 44th store contacted this store to have the tires sent and were told they did not have all of the 4 tires available. I recall having an appointment to set them up this same day, how is it possible that there are no tires? Back and forth to have the day save at least by the 44th store manager which I saw them trying to re-mediate the mess in communication created by the store in commercial blvd (this review). Through out this I learned at least that 2 blocks down the road there's another location that offers better service and have at least good communication. You can sense this by just seeing how employees interact in both stores. Wont be coming back to this store anymore. read more

Great service! I went on a Saturday to get a tail light fixed, which cost about $15. The car was somewhere between 1,000 - 1,400 miles overdue for an oil change, which I didn't know about (not my car), so the mechanic working on it brought me out to the shop to show me everything going on inside and talk to me about it--no oil came out on that dipstick! When he was changing the oil he noticed a near bald rear tire and worn front tire that he took me back out to show me. They never pressured me to get anything done, but he went over the consequences. Before doing anything he always notified the manager, and she quoted me the new price for my approval. I think the manager's name was Juanita; she was working the counter and was really great. I felt that they were honest at this shop (which I am always worried about when I go to a mechanic) and they had great customer service. Later, I noticed the tail light was out again. I'm not sure if I had told them the wrong one and the mechanic didn't confirm by checking the lights first or if they did fix the right one and it just went out again. That was after not greeting me for 15 mins when numerous workers were just standing around or walking right past me. I have used Pep Boys for simplicity in the past. Batteries. Tires. One semi large job in 2009. But just received a price on a part and installation that was double what I found in a few other shops. When I talked to this "Whatever" at Pep Boys. His excuse was that because they are a large place their price's are higher. I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants! I then gave this knucklehead a short lesson on how business really works. Why a place like "Home Depot" or "Walmart" is "SO BIG" and why their prices are "SO LOW"! I took my car over to Pepboys in Tamarac on Commercial Blvd to replace my tires. I made an 8am appointment online. I got there asked how long the tire replacement and alignment would take, was told 2 1/2 hrs. Thats fine. I decided that if I have to wait I should eat, so I went to the BK next to Pepboys. I sat at a table with a window facing the parking spot where my car was so I can see when it was ready. Well I saw a mechanic get in my car and drive off. He must have been hungry cause he walked in to the BK, saw me, knew he was driving MY car, and turned around got back in MY car and drove it right into a bay to put it on a lift to finally start what I made the appointment for. So I called my husband to take care of it, because he is the calm in the storm, and I'm the TOTAL opposite.
