Went here yesterday (Sunday) to get a tire replaced. Mine popped and completely shredded. I have no idea about cars except I had looked at a few other places to compare pricing and here was the best. Called Wednesday morning asking about tires and if I needed an appointment. The manager told me no I don't need an appointment, come by whenever and that I would be out in an hour. Called again later to ask if they had the tires I wanted because online said they had it. A lady answered and said yes. Great, so I went in around 5:30pm, was told no they didn't have them in stocked. They can order it and to come in Thursday to do my tires.. came in Thursday around 5pm. Was told they had 3 cars ahead of them. Wait shouldn't be too long. I was here until 6:50pm and my husband ended talking to the manager and said we will come back because this location closes at 7pm and won't have time to finish doing my tires. Manager said to come back in the morning, came back in the morning and the mechanic/ technician wasn't even here. Purchased tires nearly 75 days ago and two of them have started to show horrible damage. They state it's due to the alignment--which they failed to offer at the time of purchase. Charged $101 for an oil change and was supposed to get a tire rotation and never happed. Avoid this shop like the plague. Not my first issue with the pep boys. Never again. My good friend, a woman, went to pep boys months ago and they told her she needed new brake drums and new tires. The tires looked good to me. I took it to another shop and they said the drums and tires were all good. The tires just needed rotating. She took it back to have an oil change and Rotate her Tires. Back to the front. They told her they rotated them. We went on a trip and got back, I noticed they didn't rotate the tires. These people take advantage of women. It is pathetic. Women. Don't go here. Men either, These people are liars and rip off artists. Another incident at this same store, my Mom and Dad were taking their car in for tire rotation also. They were in their 80's. Made an appointment for 8am. I was at work and called them at 2pm. You guys hadn't gotten to them yet. Be careful if you go in to get a tire fixed. Went in to the store Friday because the tire I bought from pep boys two months ago was leaking air. The technician comes out and tells me I have a nail in the "sidewall" of my tire and it can't be fixed and not under warranty of tires. Tells me I will have to buy a new tire. I'm not from Mobile and told them I would go to my local tire store. Went in and they fixed my tire with no problem. I even questioned them about it and the technician I trust told me it was in an easy place to plug. So if you are told they can't plug a tire check somewhere else before buying. read more

It was almost impossible to find someone to mount our tire in a timely manor so we can get our truck to the truck show before judging. I would not recommend this location. I had new tires installed a month ago and ended up back at the store when one was completely flat. I took it to different shop to have them try to patch it first and he said it was an installation issue and I needed to take it back up to Pep Boys. The customer service was terrible throughout the entire process. When the manager called me the next day, he insinuated I and the other mechanic (who spoke directly with the store) were lying and that the other mechanic had done something to it. The manager refused to help, or even try to find out what was wrong with my tire, we just went in circles with him telling me the store did nothing wrong and they wouldn't do anything for me. He was extremely condescending and unhelpful. I am now taking my car elsewhere to have it repaired to avoid further interactions with this store. read more

I showed up a little before noon on a Wednesday to get a standard vehicle inspection. Immediately, an angry woman was banging on the manager's office window, yelling that she'd been waiting for half an hour just to drop her car off. I should have known then to just go somewhere else. Over the next two hours, I heard various other customers complaining between themselves regarding the time they'd been waiting just for service to begin. Most had been there for hours. I went online and made an appointment for a basic oil change for noon the following day. I made sure to mark that I would need to wait for my vehicle. They did their best to talk me into synthetic even though I told them that I had contacted the dealership the day before and confirmed that they did not put synthetic oil in my car when I purchased it a few months ago. It is now 1 o'clock and my car is still in the parking lot. I was told by two employees that making an appointment really does no good. No apologies were made although one service lady (Amy) did say she would do her best to get my car taken care of as soon as possible. Horrible service. I go in there for exhaust hangers and the sales person has no idea where they are then leaves me to take care of another customer- leaving me confused in the middle of the aisle. I finally find a manager who takes me to them and then tells me that they only have one kind and they aren't sure if they are the right ones for my car but he THINKS they are all universal. They had buckets by the register with a sign on there saying free with $25 dollar purchase. Then when I get to the register the sales person says that's only with car wash supplies but nothing was on the dign about that. Very unhappy and bucket-less. read more

I have never had such bad experience getting work done on a truck. I took my truck to them at 11.am Saturday to have a brush bar installed and lights. Employee at front counter did not know what she was doing so she called a service manager to make sure she put the right codes in. I explained I waned the lights put on that it was the most important thing. she said that he told her that it was covered on the code she inserted. That the truck would be done by 3pm. NO IT WAS NOT. At 3pm I called and its not ready. 4pm road by my truck has not moved. At 5:30 I call the truck is done. Arrived to pick-up my truck at 6pm and no lights. the one thing I needed done. took it in and 3 other people in line waiting to talk to a manager. there was two men and a lady at the desk the men looked at the lady and had a funny look. was not going to wait any longer so just paid for the bar and left. I had been in the store for 20 min and 3 other people were waiting to see a manager. Called the next Monday waited on the phone 10 min and got a manager. She told me she was there that day at the desk. She was the lady at the desk with the other two guys that was not talking to costumers. She told me that see would look at my ticket and call back. She did left a message that she would talk to service manager and make it up to me. That was the last I herd from them. I have called twice waiting 15 min after asking to talk with a manager with no one answering or even coming back on and taking a message. I called this pass Saturday after asking if the lady was there and finding out she was. I waited 20 min with no answer or someone taking a message. If your looking for quality work and good costumer service do go to Pep Boys. Also their Costumer Service you can call from their web site is a joke too. NO Help. read more

I needed a fuel pump changed, which is a bigger job then a tire change, but they said they could do it. They charged $293 (after rebate) for an estimated 3 hour job. The job should actually take about 30 minutes, but whatever; its the same time estimate you'll get anywhere. After 30 hours they said the job was done. I drove it home, a quarter mile away, and didn't drive it again until the next day when I went two blocks to fill my tank. I then drove, by coincidence, to the business next door to the Pep Boys, and when I came back out, 30 minutes later, there was a stream of gas pouring from under my car. Fortunately, I was next door to the Pep Boys. Unfortunately, it was Pep Boys. Long story short, it's been three weeks and they have additionally broken my gas tank, fried the relay, and possibly fried the new gas pump. I asked for my money back, since I am now losing more money without my car, and they acted shocked, and implied that they were doing me a favor by fixing what they had broken for "free." I'm not one to take the time to write many reviews on yelp however I had to share my experience, sorry it's long. Many people write negative reviews for the sake of complaining. I hope this review is taken as feedback and approached constructively to help a business change. I took my vehicle to the store on Montlimar in Mobile Al. When entering the building I was met with a line of individuals waiting to be assisted at the counter. I immediately noticed that several of them were aggravated with their experience. I didn't let that deter my initial choice to receive service. Upon approaching the counter I was met with a counter person that was completely apathetic to the customers. I asked if I was able to get an oil change and a general car inspection. I also asked how long it would take for the service to be complete. I was told yes and that I would be in around 30 minutes. I began the process of signing paperwork to release the vehicle. During that process I overheard the counter person state to a female employee close to the counter that he was over this "expletive". I had finished signing the paperwork and simply asked the employee if everything was in order. I was told yes in a very matter of fact manner and then he turned away from me back to the conversation with the female. At that point I didn't know where the waiting room was so I asked the best place to sit. I was told "over there" and pointed to. I figured before sitting I would look around the store. While browsing I found a few items that I liked however they were not priced. I approached the counter go get pricing for the unmarked items as well as others, about 7 in total. Another cashier, who was polite, offered the pricing to me. The two items that were unmarked were reasonable however the others rang up different than what was on the tag, all higher priced. I mentioned it to the cashier and I was told that they don't keep up with prices. At that point I had time to kill so I selected about 10 other items from various categories and they all rang up at an incorrect price. A 100% failure in pricing, if I bought them I would have been charged more than the tagged price, no consumer protection in the store. At this point my car was in the shop. I watched through the window as the technician walked around the vehicle and then began the oil change, completed it and pulled the vehicle out. My tire rotation was not complete as I watched 100% of the process. When the paperwork came inside I questioned the rotation and was told they would take the vehicle back in to complete it. I requested to see the paperwork. On the form it stated that I needed new brakes/rotors, shocks, struts, belts hoses, and a list of other items. My car only has 33k miles on it? I questioned the need for the items and I was told that the store is "required" to sell those items to every customer. I was appalled that I would be sold items that I may not need. If I needed the item it would be one thing but if not I'm being ripped off. I asked again why I would be told something I needed and I was told they are required. I asked what if it's not needed and I was simply told it gets sold. At this point I asked to have my car back and finish the process. When I was being rung up the oil change prices was different than what was advertised/spoken of and I also noticed that the cashier entered information that didn't match the condition of the car. My mileage was wrong, my tire pressure was entered and it wasn't written on the initial form, under the hood was never checked but there was values placed, my tires were listed as measured however I never saw it happen. I personally saw at least 2 times where information was just "keyed" in. I asked if it was normal and I was told yes if it wasn't written on the form...wow misleading. During my conversation I noticed an individual fairly close to me. He was talking on the phone and I overheard part of the conversation and it shocked me. The male voice on the other side stated something to the effect of you should never hire/that's what you get for having female employees!! He greeted me while walking by and I asked what his role was. He stated was a director for the area or area director named David. I didn't engage further as he and the company/those above him, to me, set the standard for the business. I am still shocked at my experience. I feel that people are being ramrodded into buying items they don't need, there is no pricing integrity, and the leadership/team is lacking in ability. I am certain that these practices are prohibited by some sort of consumer/eeo law etc...If I had to make a suggestion I would simply state. * Hire the right people, train, and foster passion in what they do, hold them to the job * Have leaders who lead, Have a practice of respecting ability of all employees regardless of gender * Integrity Hope this review helps, this cant be taken lightly, willing to chat with others if they have same experience. read more

Excellent customer service! Traveling on I10 headed for Florida when my power steering/brakes went out. Called to see if they even had the part and was greeted by a professional and very helpful employee. Was told they could "probably" fit me in by end of day (Saturday). When I arrived, they honestly told me that it would definitely be end of day, then they actually called around to other Pep Boy shops and found one that could get me in within the hour! All of this on their own accord. Thanks to their awesome customer service, my trip was only delayed by half a day rather than multiple days. read more

Went to Pep Boys on Montlimar 7-5-13 to get a fuel filter change. About 10 staff behind the service counter. One lady asked if she could help me and I told her what I needed. She said she would go back to see how long it would take. I don't mind waiting for affordability and convenience. I even had my Kindle book with me. She never returned. Finally, after about 25 minutes of me standing there another lady asked if I was being helped. I said I am not sure at this point. She asked who was helping me, I wasn't sure the name, so she went back to search. She never returned. I stood at the counter about 35 to 40 minutes, then walked out. A very poorly managed Pep Boys. Had many staff falling over each other behind the service counter, probably not many mechanics working. Should be the opposite. read more
