There is a huge sign as you walk in that says "Free Battery Inspection" . Ok great! So I went to check in and they tell me it will be $15???Hmmmm??? Anyways, having said that that ...it was best $15/17 that I have ever spent!!! Long story short....I came initially to see if my battery was running low which was causing the power steering in my Subaru (electric powered steering). The battery was fine but the mechanic notice that one of the cables in the power steering was loose. He plugged it back in --NO Problem SINCE!!! Now, I have already made an appointment with Fox Subaru to get it fixed...(estimated cost $1300) . The $15 saved me over a grand!!!! They could have lied and not do anything but did not. These guys at Pep Boys showed some integrity and real class. They have earned my trust and I will be their customer for life. Thank you guys for your great service and honesty. read more

Horrible service. The staff is miserable, frustrated and rude to customers. I waited for 15 minutes to be checked in for a scheduled appointment despite being first in line. One man took phone calls and did paperwork while the other sat in his chair staring at the desk while on hold with a dealership. The first man asked what I needed and then told me to speak to the man in the phone. He was angry that he had to deal with the customers while his co-worker stayed on the phone. That man them proceeded to check in the man behind me first (I am a woman). When I finally got checked in, I was told they didn't know when they would get to me because I checked in online and "corporate shouldn't allow people to check in online when they didn't know how busy the shop" was. Finally, they told me the job was done and checked me out. I got two blocks away in the rain and realized they hadn't touched my car! I drove back and discovered that they had serviced the wrong car!!!! What a mess. read more

I'd give a zero star if it let me. i dropped my car off for a simple alignment, new tires mounted and balanced, and my tpsm sensors reprogramed. I dropped my car off at 10 am with an appointment, I didn't get my car back till 7pm that night. the time isnt even the beginning of the issue that I have, when I got in the car the light was on and that's the only thing i noticed that night. the next day I drove it i noticed the alignment was exactly where it was when I dropped the car off. (John the manager also clearly said to my face he Dosent even know if the alignment was done) given now two things I paid for clearly weren't done i began to look around the car just incase. I then found two lug nuts that were stripped clean out, I was told by the manager John who was nothing but disrespectful and unprofessional that "it's probably because the lugnuts were swollen". I just did rear breaks on this car a week prior and had zero stripped lugs. I brought the car back in nicely the first time in hopes things would be made right. I was then told two tpsm sensors were dead on the left side only. was never told this my first time picking the car up or when the car was there I was told everything went great and the car was all set. so I decided to pay an additional 136$ on top of my 240$ i already spent to have these things dealt with the first time. got the car back same night the light came back on again. at the end of all of this the general manager Johns only solution was to replace the other two sensors. when he heard that we weren't satisfied with that he than began lying and changing his story up saying he refuses to do a refund and that we can file a case with corporate if we want our money back. DO NOT LET THEM TOUCH YOUR VEHICLES they clearly cannot even handle simple tasks here and management is beyond me. read more

The worst palce to take your car in Liverpool. They did not fix my car properly first time. Second time I took it to them for the same issue (a couple of days after). I dropped my car 9:00am, and they did not touch it the whole day. They closed without notifying me so I ended up not having my car returned to me. It wasn't because it needed parts, it was just because they didn't even touch it. They did not even bother to call and let me know that they are not going to fix my car. Last October my husband went to the Liverpool NY PepBoys to get a synthetic oil change. His car was leaking horribly after. He took it back and they fixed the problem. They wrote him an IOU for an oil change on the back of their business card. In early May be returns for another oil change and uses the card IOU. Again his car is leaking oil everywhere he goes. He takes the car elsewhere to have it fixed. PepBoys put a stripped oil plug on the car. Problem solved. He took the bad plug back to PepBoys and showed them. He told them he thought they should reimburse him for the $33 it cost to have the plug replaced at the dealership... not to even mention the damage to our driveway from the leak. They said they can't do anything without the receipt. THEY DIDN'T GIVE HIM A RECEIPT BECAUSE THEY "CASHED" THE IOU! They suck!!! Do not recommend ever coming here for anything the manager is extremely rude and when asking questions about new tires he told us to stop talking because he had things to do. Called at 2:00pm Randy said it would be worked on but they have other things ahead of us, understandable but we had a 9:00 appointment. Showed up at 5:45 to check on our car as they close at 6:00 and nothing was done. Thankfully was able to speak to the nice mechanics that work there but the manager needs to be fired. These guys understood my circumstances and made my car a priority. I was preparing for a move (long drive) for work and Murphy's Law took effect. My phone battery died while my car was waiting for tow and they charged it for me. They let me coordinate with their phone. They promised that they would look at my car as soon as possible and did so the same day. They managed my expectations without lying and got my car fixed in less than a day. They did not overcharge me. In fact, I think they waived some of what would have normally been charged. If I had lived in the area longer, I would have brought my car here exclusively. This shop has gone to the dogs. During the day of my service they had 4 people working out in front and only 2 in the bays. Their technician couldn't tell the difference between gasoline and differential fluid, they attempted to persuade me that the car had a wiring short due to a blown sidelight (it was proven not to after I pushed back), they took 2 hours to perform a state inspection (while I waited), and then the service manager had the gall to call me out for the mediocre feedback that I left them. It appears that they have a high turnover in mechanics and from this experience I believe the Service Manager needs to be retrained. BTW their labor rates are ridiculous. read more

Then I called Pep Boys, Spoke with Kirill, The Service Manager directly without being placed on hold like every other place, He Greeted me kindly on the phone and even asked How I was doing? Out of the Ten phone call's I made that day he was the first to. I got a good vibe already. I told him the height and weight of my van he said no problem, Then my Tire size which is an odd size, They didn't have them in stock but said he could have them the next day which was when I wanted to bring it in any way, Perfect! And to top it all off, They price matched an online competitor for me :) !! I arrived on time, Handed my Key's to the Gent at the service desk, My van was promptly pulled in and driven responsibly I might add! And work began right away, and the tech had a good hustle in his step him making me feel like I wouldn't be there all day just for four new tires. I sat in their waiting area which has plenty of seating and a divider around it to keep out and chilly gusts. I hopped on the free wifi and in no time at all I was all set, check out was quick and they ran down the bill for me to make sure i understood it all before I left and asked me if there were any question's to give them a call and wrote the store number down for me. I hop in my van everything was just as I left it, No Tires pressure lights on the dash, and it rode smooth as glass. I took my car into Pep Boys in Liverpool for a tire rotation. I was told that I needed new lug nuts and sent on my way. The next week when I went to get my brakes done it was discovered that they never did the rotation. They told me to bring it back and they would take care of it. Pat and Jon are very pleasant to talk to and they provide excellent customer service! I recently had a check engine light on in my car and Jon was more than fair about the price owed for the amount of labor and time spent working on this. My brother first told me about taking my car here and I'm so glad I found such a great shop! I have now taken my car here a few times and have been happy with each service! They truly make you feel like you are valued and appreciated customers and treat you like family. I will no longer be taking my car anywhere else for service and/or repairs, even if it means traveling over an hour to get here (from where I live in Sherburne to Liverpool). A couple years ago they left the cap off after my oil change so oil went all over my windshield as I was driving. I went back there to tell them and they tried acting like I must have taken it off myself and drove around like that on purpose. Then they tried to look it up on their cameras to figure out which person did it and claimed they couldn't find it, so I had to fight tooth and nail for them to clean my car and redo my oil. Another time I took my car there to have a loud noise looked at. I knew it was exhaust/muffler related. They wanted over 800 to replace the entire exhaust. I said no, because I ended up buying the parts on rockauto and having someone else do it for a fraction of the price... however the part that ticked me off the most is when I picked up my car after saying no, it sounded 5x louder than when I dropped it off. I pulled back in to complain and they said there was nothing they could do about it. I have never gone back since. read more

Now for the really despicable part of my experience---Scott in the service center was completely horrible and rude. I have no idea why he is still Employed there. He was not knowledgeable. Defensive and argumentative. He shouldn't be employed there. Management is well aware of his behavior. Brought my car in for an oil change. When I arrived I was greeted by Scott at the service counter. He was very friendly and took great care of me. Scott informed me that my car would need brakes soon. He let me know that it was not something I had to have done right away but in the near future. I really appreciated his honesty and how he did not pressure me to get more work done, because of this I decided to get the brakes done at that time. The people working at the parts counter are morons who can't even pull a part. I walked in with the correct Toyota Parts numbers I needed written down on paper and asked them to look up the generic equivalents, and told them it didn't need to be the Toyota OEM part, so long as the packaging referenced the Toyota part number. That was apparently too much for these idiots to figure out. I wasn't looking for anything unusual either, we're talking air filter, oil filter, pcv valve, plugs and wires for a tune-up on a Corolla. The only items that were out on the floor that I could pull myself were the air and oil filter. Everything else was stuck back in the parts area where I had to wait ten minutes for tweedledee and tweedledum to not find them. Don't waste your time with these jagoffs. read more

I made an appointment for 10 to have tires put on my car. That's an hour after they open. I showed up at my appointment time, and they said "so you are dropping your car off right?" I told them I hadn't planned on it and I didn't have a ride. They said "well since it's Sunday we don't have as many techs working and it's taking longer to get things done. And the ones we have working are older so they don't really move that fast. But we will try to get you in soon." I said okay and waited. About 45 minutes later they asked if I could bring my car back another day because they wouldn't be able to get to it today. I told them I made an appointment for a reason. And I would not be bringing my car back ever. They said sorry we really can't get to it until later tonight at the earliest. If I could have done it later tonight or another day I would have made my appointment for then. read more

I went to Valvoline first to have my inspection done. They said my parking brake cable was loose so they failed it and told me to go down to Pep Boys to get it tightened and it would then pass inspection. I dropped it off with Pep Boys, they said they couldn't look at it until the next day so I should leave it. Next day, they call and say I need a full break job with rotors and everything on the back end, which is all part of the parking brake issue. I say I just had the rear brakes done and ask how much are they talking about. The guy said he "couldn't say until the parts from the dealer arrive tomorrow" - I tell him I haven't authorized the work yet, so why order parts? I push him and ask how much he's talking for the repair. Again, he refuses to say. I ask him a third time to at least give me a range for it - "a couple hundred? Five hundred?" And he says no, probably in the THOUSAND dollar range, but he couldn't be more specific since the parts have to be dealer parts and they can't get them in until tomorrow. They didn't plan on giving me an estimate! They were just going to do the work and hold my car hostage until I coughed up $1,000 or more?!?! Seriously??!? I told him not to touch my vehicle again and I'd have someone pick it up the next day. I said that I had just had the rear brakes done and I was taking it to someone else. How does a mechanic assume the customer wants the work done and not tell the customer how much the repairs will be before they do the work? They never even asked me to sign anything when I dropped the vehicle off so I should have known. Most mechanics have you sign an agreement saying they won't do any work until you get an estimate. well i cant post my review for some reason , Had to deal with the manager lady well after dealing with her and how bad her attitude was towards me and the situation. She wouldn't just do her job. Won't be going back there unless they do something about it. i got an optima battery from there a time before i brought it if to be charged since i didnt have a agm battery charger every time the workers there charged it wrong and kept frying it. well after the 3rd time ( PEP BOYS tried to tell me the warranty didnt cover it even though i called optima and conformed it ) i asked for my money back or exchange it for a lead acid one by bosch plus the difference back... nope they made it so i paid more money to get a new battery cause they screwed mine up. that was December 29th 2013 ( not even 2 years yet. ) and mind you when i got the new battery i had to give them my number , my rewards info, my license for the trade to ) and the original optima they fried all 3 times cost me over 250 dollars and the bosch is 145 a difference of 105 dollars and when i got the Bosch battery that had me pay 20 dollars...so technically they should of gave me 105 price difference back or something so lets say they owe me in good faith 125 dollars. so 10/19/2015 my newer bosch battery that had about 10k miles on it randomly died..so my father came out and helped me bring it to pepboys to exchange it out ( since it was still covered under warrenty )... had the older guy put it on the tester where it kept fluctuating the CCA up and down...it was suppose to have 800 cca and only had about 500 at the time of testing...it ended up reading by the end of the test 712 CCA and came back as a good battery...the older guy ran the numbers into the computer and found they sold me battery wasnt the right one for my car.... so i asked if since it tested as good if they could swap out for the correct battery.. then the manager lady came over asked for my receipt ( which i dont carry with me ) so i gave her my name and phone number...and she came back and said im not in the system for anything....and that theres no proof i even got the battery from them...and she came back said i dont even have a rewards account at all...and somehow their workers screwed up lost my paperwork etc and she made it out like it was my fault somehow. so they did the exchange ...then i was just trying to be nice and talk to her and all she was being was rude back... she had asked the older guy working there if he had printed the paperwork for the testing he said no cause it wasn't working and she treated him like hes an idiot in front of my father , myself , and another customer ( who was just as annoyed her her attitude as i was ) .then i asked about the warranty and she told me that you wont have a warranty anymore ( because it was a trade and the warranty is null and void ) and she told me she wouldn't honor Bosch 3 year free replacement warranty as well....so i respond with "if anything happens im shit out of luck" her response was "pretty much" and you can take it up with Bosch and then they can deal with us....her attitude towards me was terrible shes been rude / smug towards me as well...i just ignore her and try not to deal with her at all, but this time was the end. i did call and make a complaint with the service manager there. and pep boys customer care on 10/21/15 , and had to call back again today (10/22/15 ) to find out when someone would contact me..now im just waiting to hear from Daniel today ( 10/22/15 ) hopefully to fix this. and just talked to Bosch and they told me that the manager is not telling me the truth and the warranty starts from the day you get the new one regardless if was an exchange or not . so my guess is she tells unsuspecting customers that their products are out of warranty so they will buy new ones and spend more money....which is wrong and thats what she basically tried getting me to do. ive been a long time costumer here...but after this ordeal and another time i ordered brake rotors and i had the email saying it was ready for pick-up and they had no clue what i was talking about and they couldn't find the order ( and then they canceled the order as i was on my phone in the store ) but the way this lady acted to me in front of my father and another costumer.....she talked to me like i was stupid and she was better than me....i had to leave before suffering from a panic attack because of her attitude... read more

If I had known beforehand what would happen with me bringing my car there then I would never have gone to Pep Boys in the first place. Where do I even begin? For starters they never called me when they said they were going to. They said they would call me in the middle of the day the day after I brought my car in, telling me I could come pick my car up. Next day, don't hear a word from them. I call them closer to their closing time and they tell me they will call me the next day but with no explanation as to why they didn't call me before. This went on for 5 more days. So when they said it would take only one day, it ended up being 6. On top of this, they charged almost $100 just to examine my car and tell me what was wrong with it which is obscene. After all the work was said and done and I finally got my car back I noticed my check engine light was still on, my steering wheel was unaligned and one of the noises my car was making that I brought it in for, was still being made. Also, one of the main issues my car had was some issue starting. It was the primary reason I brought the vehicle in. Not even a week later, my car had to be jump started. Every problem that I paid Pep Boys to fix, still exists in my car. It was a huge waste of money and I strongly suggest anyone reading this to find some other business to bring your car to because apparently when they say they do everything for less, they are talking about their quality. read more

For starters I'd like to say that I never write reviews because my time is precious and I would either need to be completely wowed or so disappointed that I feel no one should do business with a company. Unfortunately in this case it's the latter. I'm a very forgiving customer when it comes to bad service in retail and service industry, having previously been in management in a similar industry I realize that even a well managed company can have isolated instances, with Pepboys on rt57 in Liverpool it's clear now that it is not isolated to one off experiences. I have had a few experiences with this location over the last few years that I have drawn this conclusion from. In the summer of 2014 I had an oil pan replaced and 4 new tires put on my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, after picking up my vehicle I was greeted with oil residue on my steering wheel and on my center console it was very obvious and took time to clean it off. When I brought my jeep home I inspected their work on the oil pan, I didn't want to do this job because the exhaust has to be removed to fit the pan. I noticed that instead of removing the exhaust they just dented in the pan slightly to make it fit, I decided not to notify them of the issue because the pan would still work it would just corrode faster due to being damaged, and I didn't not want to deal with more downtime. Now to my checkout experience last week for a very small item in the store, I had one customer in front of me that had many questions about the product he was buying and concerns in his checkout experience. A new employee was checking him out and had a lot of questions and concerns to ask to a senior employee/manager near by. The manager scoffed at the new employee each time the new employee bothered him because he was busy having a conversation with his friend about having fun with 4 wheelers. He was so determined to not be bothered that he made sure to ignore my presence entirely while continuing his conversation as I waited for the new employee to finish checking out the customer ahead of me, for more than 10 minutes. Once the new employee finished he was able to check me out quickly enough and I was able to leave, all while the senior employee/manager continued to talk to his friend. Now to my most recent experience, the other day I noticed a nail in my tire and made plans to drop my car off to have it plugged, I called the store and was told that I could drop it off that night(last night) in the overnight drop off and it could be done quickly the next day and I would receive a call when it was done. I dropped off my car and filled out my information for the work to be done. Today at 5pm I still had not received a call from them so I decided to call, it took them a while to figure out that no one had picked up the overnight requests or notice my car there all day. Only slightly frustrated I was fine when I was told that they would get to work on it right away and they would call me tonight when it was done, after all it was just plugging a tire. At 8:15 I decided to call them and found out they were closed, no missed call saying sorry we needed more time, nothing. I grabbed my spare key and my wife's car and drove up the road to the store, hoping someone had stayed late to finish my car so that I could pick it up. I reached the store to find out that no one stayed late at 8:20 to finish it and that my car was locked in the bay so even if I needed it, there was no way I could get it back. I went home and called the 1-800 number to talk to consumer relations, a nice women picked up and told me that she would create a ticket and a manager "might" call me in 48 hours. Tomorrow I plan to pickup my car, done or not and discontinue doing business with Pepboys all together. Thankfully for me I'm able to make arrangements to get to work and back in this situation while many other people cannot. There are a lot of places to get parts and have service done on your car, from my experiences, even if the price might look appealing don't go to Pepboys. read more
