Here for Pennsylvania state inspection and a new tire. We had called prior to appointment and got good service and have decided to purchase the tire recommended by Pep Boys personnel. It's a major brand tire sold under the Pep Boys name which adequate for daily use. We had an 815 o'clock appointment and we were taken in promptly. Our car was ready by 10:45. The front desk personnel were pleasant and very helpful especially Frank. We believe the price for the Pennsylvania state inspection and for the tire replacement were good. The Pep Boys building is undergoing renovation (downsizing), and their name was removed from the front of the building. I thought they had moved to a new location on McDade Blvd. I had to ask three people where and how to enter the parking lot and building since the parking lot was being repaved. No sign said the place was open, where to enter the parking lot [in front of a bank] or how to enter the building once you are in the parking lot. I left my truck there for repair to my exhaust system at 8 AM. Later that afternoon, I received an email stating that the parts were not available for my truck. I did not even receive a phone call. Finally, no explanation was given when I retrieved my truck. In addition, the truck was left unlocked when I went to pick it up. The only positive comment I have is that they are open until 7 PM on weekdays. My rating is zero stars. read more

Do not go here. The worst customer service we've ever experienced. We gave them two chances but first time ended up just asking for our keys and leaving and the last time we stood there for an hour waiting for the panicked, unpleasant woman to stop chatting on the phone to check us out; she complained about us to other customers(?) on the phone because we were just standing there being patient to check out, but apparently that means we're 'in her face'. Also she's the *only* person capable of checking people out which is insane. She needs to be relieved and replaced with someone else (or two) yesterday (or like, let others check customers out!). Apparently the manager sucks cuz she told us they left early and didn't let her have her lunch or assist her with all the calls. The lack of compassion for their customers and accountability for their wrong doing is shocking. I had my car serviced at pepboys Glenolden on Saturday, 8/2/2025, for an oil change. I realized needed spark plugs a couple of days later, so I took my car to our family mechanic and he mentioned that my oil filter housing is broken. This means that whoever performed my oil change on Saturday broke the oil filter housing to the point where it would be hard to open and access my filter. The assistant manager was completely useless and afraid to provide any service without the manager, who wasn't there. The point is, my car was in better condition before I let pepboys glenolden service my car. Since they lack accountability, I now have to pay an extra $150 to fix a problem they created. This establishment is the most unprofessional and incompetent pepboys I've ever visited. DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE!!! If I could give them negative stars, I would. read more

I've had a friend drop off her car for a basic AC fan repair and she received her vehicle back with an overheating engine and electrical problem and they did not fix the AC issue. Pep Boys did not take accountability for anything now she has to spend thousands of more dollars to get her car fixed possibly replaced. I have a place for most of my car repair needs but if I need some tire work I usually (reluctantly) come here. It's in a convenient location not too far from my house. I don't want to bury these guys. They are friendly and do decent work. It's just that I seem to remember tires and tire work being cheaper. $140 for the replacement of 1 tire seems steep although I don't have any comparison to back this up. Also, I work in customer service and understand the concept of "first come first serve" I understand that others may have made reservations. I understand that a weekend walk-in is going to be iffy on getting in and out with ease. That said, I still think that 3hrs is a long time to wait for a simple tire replacement. Maybe an express lane for things such as this? Ha! I was tempted to have them just sell me the tire, remove the maintenance fee and let me just roll it out and put it on myself. Overall, I'll probably go back for tire issues because none of this is gross customer negligence or shoddy work but I may do some comparison shopping beforehand to see if Pep Boys is all there is in the local tire game. read more

Loved my experience!!! My daughter was visiting her college friends this morning when her car just stopped running! Fortunately she was already off of I95 when this happened. Wouldn't jump so she had it towed to Pep Boys. What we thought was a more expensive alternator repair turned out to be a simple battery exchange! It started out well, with Jamison at the front desk. He was polite and professional, and informed me they could take the car right away for my oil change/tire rotation/windshield wiper change. I saw my car go up on the lift, and then the agonizing wait began. The mechanic slowly began working on the car, stopping frequently to work on another car, or go in the back. The car was untouched for a solid hour from 12 - 1 which I assume was lunch time. It was finally finished at 2:30 PM, 3 hours after it went up on the lift. Had the skid plate under our car damaged by a careless towing company and then mangled driving the hilly roads of rural Pennsylvania. Brought the car in and the staff was both friendly and professional. They solved our problem quickly and - graciously - free of charge. The only downside was we were in and out so quickly that we didn't get to enjoy the waiting area with it's leather chairs, free coffee, complimentary WiFi, and large TV. I came into store 13 to get a new side mirror for my car, I'm a young guy who knows nothing about vehicles including how to change a tire or do an oil change. But little did I know an angel would save the day. David Gordy was off duty and showed me exactly how to change my car mirror. They didn't have long paper to print it on, he said he can write it on the receipt for what we already paid for. Um no, I need something official. Asked us to wait and he would see what he can do. After standing there for about 20 minutes, out of nowhere he said the best he can do is fax it. I asked him what were we waiting for this whole time b/c I thought he paged someone and they were trying to see what else they could do. I'm usually not a huge fun of chain auto repair shops, but this particular Pep Boys is Glenolden isn't bad. I recently had to replace my tire after getting a huge bolt stuck in it. The price for the tire was reasonable and very comparable to a site where I would normally order tires. The installation cost was definitely to my liking. SERIOUSLY DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!! If I could give them a ZERO I would !!!!!!!! I scheduled an appointment online for 6pm to have tires installed on my car and an inspection done. Pepboys around me does not close until 9pm. When my husband arrived with my car I am told that even though I was scheduled to have an inspection done it could not be done because they do not have any mechanics who can do the inspection. So we took the first hit and said ok. Just install the tires. (Which meanwhile I bought somewhere else. I guess they weren't going to make enough money off me so who cares) Well after sitting in Pepboys waiting room for 2 1/2 hrs the mechanics calls (yes calls on the phone) my husband and tells him that the mechanic has done his last job of the night and that my tires will not be installed!!!!! What 2 1/2 hrs and they can install tires !!! These losers should find another profession because being mechanics is obviously not working out. What a load. If you value your time do not go here or any other Pepboys. You know I read the reviews before going and thought they can't be that bad BUT YES THEY CAN !!!!! read more

I am writing this review because of my experience today. I see a very low rating for this store. I must say that I was worried when I read the reviews, but my car was on a tow truck and I'm from Florida and had nowhere else to go at 1am on interstate 95 being new in town. So I had the tow truck drop my car off. I returned at 8am to check on my car and to see if I could have it fixed. I had narrowed the problem down to the starter on my 2007 Honda Civic. I met Dave as I walked up to the service counter. Dave could see that I just walked an hr to get there and was in need of a miracle. After telling him my issue and Dave checking the computer he advised me that they were all booked and I couldn't have my car looked at for at least 24 hrs as per the computer system. Dave realized that I had nowhere to go and was stranded. He helped me locate a refurbished starter saving me $56, as well as an additional $51 for swapping the core of my old alternator. I told him I just needed somewhere to sit and rest after the long night and morning I had and he set me up in the guest lounge. After 30 min he came back with great news. He went into the garage and spoke to the mechanics and fit my car into the garage. I sat in the AC, for another 3 hrs or so and to my delight I saw my car come off of the lift and start up. I knew the financial burden of the repair would not be pretty, and it hurt, but being helped and treated like a person made the experience tolerable and it felt good to know that good people are still out there willing to help a man when he is down on his luck. Dave used his discretion and made a call to help me while I was in need. That made all of the difference to me and I'm extremely grateful. My car was running and fixed in 3 hrs, and I was able to get to work and support my family. Bad things happen, but it's great to have a friendly face and a helping hand. If you haven't been here, and you need a fair shake, try them out and ask for DAVE. Nothing is for free in this world, but a smile and a helping hand. I got what I paid for and more. Hopefully Pep Boys hires more people like Dave, and people will give this location another chance that have been previously unhappy. As of July 8th 2015, the service is great! Just pick up our vehicle after getting a complete brake job with all new parts. I brought in a mail in coupon for 20% off. Once I left, I mistakenly thought there was an error in calculation. I returned to the store and the staff was very understanding and patient as they explained that over 30% in discounts were calculated into my bill ( they showed me on the bill) and the showed that they had used the coupon to discount the fees that were not previously discounted. I called pep boys in the morning to have an appointment to fix the flat tire. Frank picked up the phone and said I can just drop in with out appointment. I asked him again whether he is sure because I had issues couple of times before. He was confident and told me to come anytime in the evening. After work, I reached there around 630 pm. I was told that they can't accommodate my car because I didn't have appointment and there is only one mechanic. I explained him about my conversation with Frank. But was told that is in the morning and now it is evening. After long conversation he accepted my car but after an hour I was told that they can't fix it because they pep boys do not have bridgestone tires. This is not my first bad experience. Mickey is the man! I've been a pepboys custom for years but I've recently moved to the Collingdale area. Of all the times that I've gone to pepboys I must say I've never had the service that Mikey has given me. Each time I go there he is swapped and being pulled in multiple direction but somehow manages to acknowledge every customer in his line and provides a sense of reassuring that my need is just as important as any other customers. As I patiently waited in line I watched him jungle multiple customers needs quickly and effortlessly. He went above his role to help me with my issue and even when I told him I didn't mind waiting or coming back he insisted on doing everything he could to help me at that time and did so efficiently with a smile and friendly demeanor. I would also give them a Zero if I could. They were pretty dishonest with me both on the phone and in person. My car died on I-95 and we had trouble getting a tow truck. We called Pep Boys towing and they were able to dispatch a tow within a half hour (I would give the tow process 5 stars). I called the following day for the price of the diagnosis (we knew it was the alternator) and they said that it was the alternator and that I needed a new battery. Wasn't sure about the battery, but was fine with the alternator diagnosis. When I asked how much this would cost, they said about $750! When I asked why it was so expensive, they told me the labor. I responded with the fact that the alternator was at the top and that it should take them less then 1 hour to put on. Price of the alternator is just under $200. I was more than willing to pay whatever the price was for labor - it's winter and I need my car! I got on the interwebs and researched how long it takes to put an alternator on by the average person (not mechanic). Overwhelmingly, on every forum it said just under an hour. Therefore, by my count, it would have been $103 (1 hour labor) + $200 (alternator + pulley) + $50 (the tow) = $353 TOTAL. Now add in a battery that I did not need but they said I did and that probably would have cost $116 + $103 (1 hour of labor even though it is usually free to have a battery installed) = $219 Here is the grand total -- $572.00 TOTAL and they QUOTED ME AT OVER $750.00. When I asked why, they just stumbled over words and told me it takes longer to put the alternator on. Fast forward to when we pick the car up. The guy lowers the amount of time that he actually told me on the phone for the alternator install time. Also, when we looked at the charge graph for the battery to see if we truly needed a new battery my dad noticed that they tested it at only a 50% charge. That would yield incorrect results. My dad found an alternator at $190 at Church's auto and he charged the battery just enough to get it to the Advance Auto store parking lot in Clifton (which is closer to home for tools). We replaced the alternator in the parking lot right there as it flurried and it took him just under 45 minutes to do so. Just as the forums stated -- getting the bottom bolts off was tricky. This 45 minutes also includes the time it took to walk into the Home Depot in the middle of the project to replace my dad's stripped ratchet which happened to be under a lifetime warranty so he got a new one for free! Oh... and I do not need a battery. I have at least a good six months left on it. Bottom line is -- Especially for the LADIES -- do your research if you are going to use this branch of Pep Boys (I do use the one is South Philly for little things and have never had a problem). Google the diagnosis they give you and see how long it actually takes to complete the task and then subtract about 3 hours. I felt as though they stood their ground when I spoke with them on the phone but then when I brought my male father with me they were pretty quiet. The car industry is the worst! Or just do your yourselves a favor and take your car to Marty's Auto Repair in Primos, PA near the train station there. That is where I have always taken my car for the big things and never have had an issue there. Marty and all his guys are the best! read more

Earlier today I realized I had a flat tire. After my husband took the tire off we realized that the tire was actually fine, though it had been losing air through the bent rim (thanks potholes!) My husband took the tire and rim to Pep Boys, anticipating on buying a new rim. When he arrived, the associates at the store offered to try to reshape the rim and see if it was holding air. They called us about twenty minutes later saying they were able to reshape it successfully. My husband went back to pick it up at which time they told him it was no charge. It was a great way to end a frustrating ordeal (especially since I originally thought I would be spending hundreds on new tires). read more

On June 27, I went to the store to purchase tires and Dave could not find my records from before when I purchased 4 tires only when I replaced 2 tires also didn't see any records for 2 radios I bought and installed by pep boys!! So I called customer service, she said that she had No Records of Anyone! What is that?? She said call reward center, the supervisor there said he only had records of when I joined reward program 2010! On Sunday July 6 I went to purchase 4 tires and Dave said they went to him Why?? He had nothing to do with this?? Why are you passing the problem to him when the problem is yours PEP Boys!! I am very disgusted with this I want my records! The only reason I am giving them a star at all, is because they were friendly. I took my car in to get an inspection, some new tires, an oil change and a wiper blade. They fixed all of this for around $600. I got a call after the inspection, w/ bad news. My car failed it's inspection because there were 2 things wrong with my car (an additional $700-$800) and they didn't have the parts on hand to fix them, so I would have to leave my car overnight. I asked if I could possibly get it fixed elsewhere quickly, and come back so they can slap the inspection sticker on there. They told me no, by that time the inspector would have left and wouldn't be in until tomorrow, and how it was a 4-5 hour job...and blah blah blah. I don't speak car, so it sounded like a foreign language to me. So instead, I took my car to Midas in Upper Darby WITH the Pep Boys report so that they could kill time and know exactly what needed to be fixed. Midas looked at the report and immediately saw that with these two issues that needed to be fixed, that they beat Pep Boys' prices by $125!!! Which was great, I let them know the price wasn't an issue...I just needed the work done. (They could have taken that opportunity, and ran with it) Not only that, but after inspecting my car....Midas gave me a call and let me know that my car SHOULD NOT have failed inspection due to the one issue listed, and they couldn't even figure out where Pep Boys had pulled the other issue from! Aaaaand, Midas found a nail in my back tire, that Pep Boys had failed to even notice...Hmmm, interesting. Seemed to me that Pep Boys was looking so hard to find something wrong w/ my car, that they missed what was actually wrong with it in the first place. I have never been so happy and pissed off at the same time in my life. I appreciated the friendly staff @ Pep Boys, but the dishonesty has infuriated me. I'm upset that I even spent the money with them to get my tires, oil, inspection and blade. Lesson learned. Again...I did enjoy the staff, and I do like the store itself, but as far as mechanical work... I will never bring my car here again. :0( read more

I had not been to Pep Boys in quite some time but I am really glad I tried them again. I got to work and realized I had a flat tire, knowing I had a tire maintenance package I purchased from the dealer when I bought my car, I called the dealership for assistance in getting the tire replaced as well as 2 other tire repair shops and no one at any of those locations would assist with calling the maintenance company to file the claim to replace my tire. I decided to give Pep Boys a call and spoke to David who was very professional, friendly and didn't hesitate to offer his help. He informed me of the process, had the tire replaced and spent a good deal of time coordinating with the warranty company to make sure everything was covered. Very satisfied with the service at the Glenolden location, would recommend them to anyone who has a similar situation and they will be 1st on my list to call with any future issues! read more
