Let me start that I always come to pep boys because they are usually phenomenal. We were driving through New Mexico and got a flat tire. We came in saturday and the service agent tried to send us away saying they didn't have any more slots for the rest of the day. We were driving through and had a flat tire. We tried to get our tire ordered ASAP since they didn't have our tire size in stock. We were forced to stay at the hotel next door. We were under the impression that they would install it when it got it, and yet again we had to wait till the next day. Next day arrives and they said it won't be done till 6 pm. We've been stuck in Gallup and had to stay 4 nights here already since pep boys won't help us in a timely manner. We have been dealing with them since Saturday and it is now Wednesday. Didn't see my car, nothing.. immediately directed us to other places and just kept saying he can't help. I kept saying the place he was recommended was closed we drove by coming here. Where to start with this review? I will save time on all the details of my business with Pep Boys in Gallup NM. I have utilized their services a few times over the years while traveling through from AZ. Recently I needed tires for a car that was purchased in Gallup. Upon installing the tires one rim was found to be cracked. There are not many options to purchase wheels in Gallup. I ended up buying 1 to get me back to Phoenix. It cost approx. 300.00 directly across the street from Pep Boys. Myron the manager at Pep Boys was one of the most rude and condescending customer service reps I have dealt with in years. He tried to charge me 2800.00 for 4 wheels that cost him approx. 1200.00. Unbelieveable. He did inform me a markup would be added to the cost if he had to order them directly. He said around 20% but he couldn't be pinned down on a set markup. Sketchy. I have been a business owner for almost 20 years in the medical field. I have been the middle man in many sales situations. I would never rip someone off by charging more than double just to make my cut on a sale. After checking out at the end of the day I noticed that I was charged approx. 66.00 for the 4 tires for a Roadside Hazard Warranty I never verbally agreed to. We can debate as to whether I didn't ask what it was or if he never explained it to me but in the end I wanted it taking off my bill. I went back the next day for a refund and Myron was nothing but bad attitude. No customer service skills, no apology, no thank you for your business. Nothing of the sort. He seemed to be trying to have a verbal pissing match with me to prove he was right and had superior debating skills. I did get the refund in the end after I told him I wasn't going to pay almost 10% of my bill for the warranty. He had the audacity to make a snide comment about it being 10%. Myron I am guessing if your store was down 10% in annual sales you would have a lot to answer for to your regional manager. You should learn how percentages really affect your revenue stream in business or life. I will be giving my business elsewhere going forward. Took my Benz here to have tires installed. The guy at the service counter looked at me like I ran over his dog. Very unpleasant experience right off the bat. I normally like the young lady working here because she seems to know what she doing, ASE certified. I would've walked but it's such a simple job. Tires were ordered and showed up here for install. When I got it back two if the rims were damaged with scrapes like they put it in a vise. When I tweeted PepBoys they said they check senior managers & get back to me in 48 hours. I have been a Customer at the Gallup NM Pep Boys for going on 10 Yrs Now. I have Know Alec for most of that Time, and Know Everyone in the Store by Name. I have Five Vehicles to Maintain and Keep Running. 83 Ford 350, 86 Toyota, 97 Dodge Ram Van, 95 Chrys Lebaron, 09 Nissan. I always am greeting with a Friendly Smile, and Helped with Whatever my needs might be. Store Service Excellent, the Mgr Richard Friendly and Always Helpful. Service Mgr Alec, always Helpful and Solution Focused. Kudos to the Pep Boys at this Store. I recently bought my 97 Van in because the Engine was acting up cutting out and Dying, with no Engine Light triggered? Left it with them and the Tech Elroy, figured it out bc it had to do with my Alarm System and the Fuel System. This was in Oct 2019, Elroy found some loose wiring and I have had no Problems with it since. Among that I bought the Old Betsy in, the Die Hard Toyota, and they diagnosed that problem bc it would turn over but not fire? Sure enough, got it back home and it was the Timing Chain, after I tore it down. They saved me Thousands of Dollars, bc timing Chains on these Toyota's is easy to install? It's the Labor that is Costly. Fix it Myself, 250.00 my Own Labor. Woo Hoo. I have other numerous Stories, but they have been nothing but Great, in my Opinion. We got stranded on a Sunday in Gallup with a loud clunking noise when you turn the wheel..............the only place open was Pep Boys, thank god, we were greeted with a smile and told they would check it out!!! I assumed we would have a crazy high bill and leave feeling totally taken advantage of but an hour later we had a $23 dollar bill and they tightened some bolts!!! Wow, they could've told us just about anything and we wouldn't have known any better! Firstly, the actual parts store is pretty good and the workers are helpful. The service department however is a complete Joke. I had an appointment this morning for a simple coolant pressure check because I was leaking coolant. It took them an hour and 45 minutes to do the check, even though I had an appointment (This check involves hooking up an air pump and pushing on it to see where air/coolant is coming from, it should only take 5 minutes). They said I needed a new temperature sensor/seal, and a hose (this was accurate). But they were going to charge 90 dollars labor just to change out the sensor!!! are you kidding? Here is a youtube video showing what they charge 90 dollars for... But apparently changing an air filter is a complicated task because it took another half an hour to put it in. I was in there for 2 hours and 20 minutes and could have done everything they did in literally about 7 minutes. The guy at the front desk has an attitude like the customer is there to wait on him and he'll get to you when he feels like it. Complete waste of a morning. They are extremely slow and they will rip you off. Go somewhere else for service. If you just need parts, the store guys are pretty friendly. read more

I came all the way here from Arizona after talking to Alec on the phone asking if I can do a simple oil change when I get there and he said of course you can. But when my girlfriend and I did get here Alec said he was Not able to do any more oil changes because he had only One Tech to do oil changes and the Tech was going to do a brake inspection right now that will take 2 hours. WHAT? Techs are only supposed to do simple tasks because they are Not licensed mechanics and there Tech was doing a brake inspection? that if not done correctly can get you Killed if you don't know what to look for and your brake system goes bad on a freeway. Had a flat tire, brought the tire in about 10:30, they had zero cars in the bays and they told me" we can have that fixed before12" as if they were doing me a favor. They called me about an hour later. $23 to plug a tire. I've had this done several times before for $10 or less and a couple of times it was FREE at a used mexican tire shop.he leans the tire against my car, i asked if they could put it on. "oh you would have to leave your car here" It would have taken literally 2 minutes for ONE tire. Instead I changed it myself in the parking lot. My experience here was awesome! I was passing through in my new car from Oklahoma back to Vegas, Baby! The bulb in my headlight went out. Alec and his team were so funny and awesome! They have the best customer service skills I have ever ran into in a very long time! With the volatility of the nation and race relations in our country right now, this was truly a breathe of fresh air! This store needs to be the flagship! If I could give a zero star rating for this place, I WOULD! I've heard such bad things about this place, but I thought I'd give a local spot a try since my dad has worked with Alec, the "supervisor of sales". I WISH I WOULD'VE LISTENED AND STAYED AWAY! I bought a set of tires and the installation package for my car. From the moment I left the location, the tire pressure light came on...and stayed on. I called to schedule an appt for my "free balancing", informing Alec about the tire pressure gage. My appt was at 1 pm. Alec told me my vehicle wouldn't be serviced until after 2 pm, but I couldn't wait in the waiting area and needed to find a place to wait. My vehicle wasn't done until after 330 pm. That's 2.5 hrs for a balance...AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT!! I called for a 3rd time and Alec took no ownership for his company, stating, "you probably just need new sensors" and "it's likely a computer problem". He said if I wanted to drop it off for any entire day, they MIGHT be able to take a look at it. I'm a widow with 4 kids and a healthcare worker in a pandemic. IDK who this kind of service flies with, but the Pep Boys in Gallup and this "supervisor" Alec are unprofessional, unrealistic, argumentative, and completely disregard their customer's time and money. I even tried to ask for Alec's supervisor's information or area operations contact and he wouldn't give it to me. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GO ELSEWHERE!!! read more

I live in Gallup and Pep Boys has generally been a place I shop for oil, or filters, or brake pads, etc, but the customer service has always been great! Once I had second thoughts about rotors I had purchased and took them back. The manager gave me my money back without any hassel. read more

Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful are the words that come to mind!! I blew a tire in Arkansas, and then blew another one in Grants, NM. I was towed to Pep Boys and they initially didn't have a tire or rim to fit my car, so we ended up staying the night in Gallup. That next morning myself and boyfriend returned to Pep Boys to start the search process for a tire and the manager Alec was super helpful and nice. He took myself and my boyfriend around to try to find us a rim and a tire. He spent the whole morning with us searching, driving us around. I could not believe how helpful and just overall genuinely nice Alec was to us, felt like he was a God sent angel. And the killer part was that we didn't purchase a tire or rim from Pep Boys, yet their whole crew, especially the manager Alec was extremely helpful and nice! Garrett was super nice! And I feel bad that I have to write this review but we had the worst customer service experience. We had to come back after getting one tire replaced because a couple of alerts appeared on my dash immediately after pulling out of the parking lot which was way too much of a coincidence. When we got back the manager Alec was unapologetic, showed no sign of humanity. Not even a "man that sucks"- refused to acknowledge the coincidence that was incredibly obvious and refused to have it checked out without CHARGING for the car to be serviced even though he just had people with hands on my vehicle. I think he's forgetting the fact that if something were to go wrong while we were driving that that's a huge liability on him and the pep boys corp. what a bummer, any small car shop would have been happy to lend a hand for the sake of safety. My brother and I went there and the counter guy in the parts department was great, he helped us get the parts we needed. They had one in stock but had to transfer the other and when my brother went to pick up the other part they wouldn't give it to him. He had the receipt and the cashier said I'm sorry I just don't give out free parts. The manager was just as rude. My brother didn't leave until he got his stuff, it was a pricy part....I just don't understand why they are so rude especially the manager. I was thinking about getting a set of tires from here but with the customer service we experienced I don't think I will , imagine buying the warranty and having to deal with the rudeness. After spending over $1,000 on a repair at Santa Fe Volvo dealer, my car broke down at the Continental Divide. I was towed to Gallup Pep Boys on a cold winter night and they not only stayed late to diagnose the problem, they also got a nearby car renatl agency to do the same so that I could get home to CA, while they fixed everything the dealer in Santa Fe had done wrong or failed to do. Best of all, they did it for less than the dealer originally charged me including new parts they had to order from Albuquerque and have shipped! Because of the location and large number of out of state vehicles they service, they could really take advantage of customers, but instead, they have the opposite attitude. Very helpful, I broke down on I-40 and the tow truck driver took me there, because that is who he recommended and I have to say they were awesome. My car was towed in around 7 pm, they didn't get to look at it till the next morning, they had quoted me a price for the repairs, which I thought was pretty fair, but when I came in to pick up the car, they even lowered the price. I will never forget what they did for me, I was driving from Wisconsin to Arizona and then I broke down and was very stressed and nervous and they took such good care of me. Very bad experience. Had two tires replaced after a flat, and they rotated the wheels, placing my uni-directional tires on in the wrong direction. Took my car to Toyota for a vibration a month after replacing the two tires and a big chunk of my tire was missing and the tread was worn completely off on my 1 year old tires that was placed incorrectly on my car by pep boys. Took it back to pep boys and the service manager Alec did nothing but give excuses, saying it was a manufacturer defect when Toyota said it probably is from the wrong rotation. Never received an apology. I know it's not his fault but never once said, "I'm sorry this happened to you." No responsibility whatsoever. He said the tread was already low. If the tread was already low on my 13 month old tires, why wasn't this brought to my attention at the time?? I checked the tread on my tires after my service, and it was not even close to the tread now, which is non-existent. Couldn't answer either for the oversight or incompetence of the mechanic who rotated the tires incorrectly or for the service. Said that since it had been a month since the rotation there was nothing he could do. Once I took a closer look at my receipt from my original purchase, it said I had declined an alignment as well. Never once did their employees ask me if I wanted an alignment. If they offered, I would've said yes to the $90 charge. Once I brought that up, nothing but excuses again. Doing my civic duty here by letting people know the manager and guys working in the service department operate with few business ethics. In my case, they lied often: told us they would need to order a large expensive part, would take more than a few days to repair, caused damage to area they worked on, entered grossly inaccurate information on the work order. In actuality, they repaired with a small part, tried to charge for the expensive large part, tried to say the car came in with the damage even though it was obviously new, tried to charge storage fees and tried to use the false information on the work order to their advantage. Doubt we were singled out . . . they seemed comfortable treating us this way. Oh, if you talk with corporate headquarters, they act interested, ask for documents and pictures, then refer you back to the shop . . . which only gives the shop-guys a chuckle. So be aware.
