This place is a total scam. I went in because I had a light bulb out inside the car and I needed a battery changed on the key fob. Immediately I could sense they didn't want to be bothered since it was a big enough job for them. First the started by telling me that I had to pay them cash under the table to pay for the battery in the key fob. They then started doing a "complimentary" inspection on the car instead of fixing the light build and next thing they were claiming the car wouldn't start and that they needed to figure out what was wrong. When I refused service, they pushed the car outside and left me and my 81 year old father out in the cold. Completely heartless people. Car started no problem and we took it to our usual mechanic who changed the light bulb and the car is fine. These people will try to break your car to drum up unnecessary repairs. ZERO! I came here after I got a scan on my car so I know exactly what needed to be done. When showing them the scan I was immediately told 2xs we can fix this issue if the light comes on it's on you and not us. Ok I understood however I did feel the way I was spoke to was very abruptly and rude. Moving forward I wanted an idea of what fixing this part would cost me it was about $500 alright now the same guy who told me about the light situation walks on over and says we can do it now we're not busy at all. I decided to bring the car early in the morning instead. So the following day I bring the car they are going to do a diagnostic test on the car which is $100 and we can go from there. I get a call maybe an hour and a half later about the car the guy is speaking so fast all I heard was you need, you need, you need and finally it comes up to 2,300. I was trying to see if there was a way to fix the main issue and I would move forward there was no bending he was very pushy and stuck on me getting everything fixed that was wrong with the car in one shot. I then receive a text your car is ready for pick up. I go pick up my car and it's firstly parked in a handy cap parking spot the car is crooked like it was just thrown there and when I got inside the same person that was there no name because he was not wearing a name tag asked me cash or credit charged me handed me papers and walked away. I then said No Thank You, No have a nice day ZERO customer service!!! Someone else then yelled "Have a nice day" obnoxious! These people are money hungry if you do not do business with them they treat you like crap! My car feels like it's even more questionable condition after them doing a simple scan with this all of a sudden shaking I feel. For their sake I hope it's not in worse condition. This is my first time getting my car serviced here. I came here before for inspection and everybody was nice and the car was done on time. Today my car needed some new parts and they called me after inspecting the car and gave me an estimate. There's a mall nearby so I went there while my car was done. I always trust pep boys will do a good job and this location was no different. My car feels great and they gave me advice about how to keep it well. read more

Appointment doesn't mean you get seen anywhere near your time. Went in for a diagnostic 5 minutes before my appointment. One person says he's working on my car. Look in the back and my car hasn't been touched an hour after my appointment. The nasty attitude from the store reps because I dared ask what's going on is even worse than the bold face lie. DO NOT COME HERE TO GET YOUR TIRE REPAIRED. Took my tire here to fix a leak and they left black glue all around the rim. When I took it back to have it cleaned they refused to clean it and told me to take it to the car wash. Couldn't even give me a car wash voucher to have it cleaned. Terrible customer service. This is my go to location for my oil changes, tire rotations, and NYS inspection. Since I lease vehicles- hence no wear and tear- my inspections are generally $10. I think this is the best Pep Boys location within my surroundings. They have a nice, clean roomy waiting area and customer service is the best. And I want to say is Sharvaine is the best (along with the mechanics)she kept me updated and her customer service skills are A+++. I truly would and do recommend this location...when I am not there. Lol My only complaint is that they parked my car in the handicapped parking spot and they should not have. read more

Come here if you need to waste some time. If theres obligations like dental drilling or visiting inlaws that you need to weasel out of doing then schedule an appointment. Guaranteed you will be waiting, sent away, and different store reps will tell they can and can not do the same services. They don't even bother to unlock their doors early in the morning, so schedule an early appointment to sit in their parking lot to wait or a late appointment to be told everyone went home. They stand by their work and don't nickel and dime you for every little thing they needs to be done during a typical service. That's why all 3 of my family's cars come here for service. When you work full-time and sometimes on the weekend too, you'll travel to get something done because they're open later than most places. That's what happened here, I had dropped the ball all month in getting my car's inspection done and found myself looking at my schedule and seeing no open windows. Luckily, I found that the Pep Boys in Elmont is open a few hours later from when I get out of work, which was perfect, because even if I did have to wait, and I believe me I did, it still fit into the schedule that was best for me. Fortunately, I didn't have to wait long to hand over my keys and fill in the data about my car, and, it was inspected quite fast as I noticed my car only moved from where it was right away, and then returned a few minutes later. It was the line of people that came in after that tacked on an extra 40 minutes to my waiting, even though my car had been inspected. I felt bad because there was only 1 guy on hand to do everything and you could tell he felt swamped. He profusely apologized when I got up to the counter and, having been in similar situations like the one he was in, I told him it wasn't a problem. He seemed relieved. My issue here is just with the general management of the place, who don't seem so concerned that they would have a single person working a mass amount of people. read more

went to get a tire replacement on my car and informed the front desk it was a manual. i was told I'd most likely have to drive it in for them which I was fine with. one of the workers insisted he knew how to drive manual. he was already lost on how to turn it on, he then proceeded to red line my car trying to move it. he put the car into first gear instead of reverse and hit the curb. asking me why it went forward if the car was in reverse? Nightmare experienc, never again. Was not compensated for having my time wasted and front lip of my car scratched up from underneath. Pepboys, If your employee doesn't know how to drive the car then he shouldn't be insisting on driving it in the first place. Also paid $92 to replace a tire that started bubbling. Terrible terrible place. Promotional Discount didn't come off at the register, this guy so called manager and Cashier Eric said I got the wrong ones without checking it. By the way hands in the pocket. I went back and changed so I picked the exact one that is shown on the flyer and item code. On Sat Jan 22 my car only needed new break front break pads. Pep Boys claimed the car also needed new 2 front rotors and 2 calipers. Total cost of repair would be $1800. Thank goodness I left. I bought the pads online, and went to shop that installed them for $75. Peps Bobs are crooks. read more

If you ask for explanation of bill/services the answer is Manager at Lunch/ Technician gone home..... .Service advisor shows a grim face says "Package. Package" and runs away. When you come with a deficiency in the services the next day they shout in front of Public " Step back, step back , I don't know you." advertised coupons are not honored. System not accepting. This was the most awful experience I've had getting my car "repaired." First, they charged me a 102 dollar diagnostic fee to tell me that they could not in fact repair it. I had brought the car in because it wasn't starting. A fuse had blown, but only the dealer could fix it because the computer needed to be reprogrammed. The mechanic "helpfully" jumped the fuse so I could get the car home. This was grossly incompetent on his part as it caused the entire fuse box to blow the next morning. Of course Pep Boys refused to pay for the 500 dollar repair. Avoid at all costs. read more

Whats even worse they claimed the previous company that did my oil changed had broke some small bulb which was supposedly making my oil leak but i never saw any oil leaks. I came here to get a tail light and head light fixed. They give me the bulbs and charge me for the labor which was ok. The price was decent. I give the guy my number to call back and we calls me back with so much crap. He said oh my back breaks are bad and something was leaking in my car. Horrible! I just got my breaks done last month! Worst place I have ever been too.. I wish I could give no stars. Waiting in line for 20 minutes when I had an appointment and came early to it. Oil change took an hour and a half when the guy told us it would take "no more than 35 minutes". I will never return here or any pep boys chain EVER. we asked to see a manager and some worker came out holding his phone with his hands in his pocket and said "you're gonna have to just wait". Came here when a tire was going flat. Decided whilst I was here to get all four done. My mistake! "technician" damaged car when tires were being replaced my name was taken down by employee and was told manager would call me. Whether or not he was given message was debatable, but be assured I wasn't called. While still waiting for manager to call, noticed car wobbled at medium speed. Brought car to dealership where I was told: 1) they had done a lousy job of balancing tires. None was done right. 2) wheel alignment wasn't done-or was done poorly. After the dealership fixed what Pep boys had already screwed up, I was out another 350. I used to be a regular customer at this location for years. They lost a customer yesterday. Discovered the mechanic left a part inside my wheel in May after strut repair. Went in and told them of wheel thumping, managed to get an extra discount, but then they never bothered to check the wheel for damage or to fill tires like I asked. I had to stand outside and make a scene with mechanic to make them actually look at it--there's no excuse for that! And after waiting hours(!) I'm pretty sure the kid just put the car on the lift and took it down without actually doing anything. This location changed management and mechanics this year, and I will never go back. read more

OK ... I guess. I had 2 tires replaced and an alignment ... and was satisfied with the service ... until I got home. My husband looked at the tires and noticed they were different sizes. I'm not sure what it meant but one was "195" and the other was "185". I took it back and they replaced one of the tires. As for the alignment ... they said it wouldn't make a difference. They replaced the tire so I guess I'm satisfied ... but I wasted my time going back there again. read more

So I decided to give them a 2nd chance (dumb mistake). I had a nail puncture my tire resulting in a flat. I took the tire off, found the nail, and brought them the tire thinking they would just plug it and be done. 45 minutes later they say they found another nail, and due to the "angle" of that nail, they couldn't fix it and proceeded to sell me a new tire. I decided to get a second opinion and brought it to a mechanic at a random gas station nearby. The mechanic submerged the tire in water and determined only one nail (the one I found) punctured the tire - between the diagnosis, removing the nail, plugging it, and mounting the wheel, it took him 20 minutes and cost me $10. I gave him a $10 tip on top. In summary: Pepboys - 45 minutes, only a visual diagnosis, refusal to fix, and a sales pitch for a $90 tire Random mechanic - 20 minutes, full diagnosis, fix, $10 cost, and restoration of my faith in mechanics that don't work for pepboys read more

i called ahead and was told wait time was half an hour it turned out to be over an hour. I asked about a replacement battery for my car for the specific make and model. they told me about installation would be free. When I arrived I was told again installation would be free. After they pulled my car in the desk person told me that my car was a difficult installation and labor would be $70 additional. I knew all along that my model was more complicated to swap out a battery and free install was the reason i decided to purchase there. only after i complained i was told repeatedly it was free to install they claimed to waive the labor.
