I am traveling across country and stop in El Paso to break up the drive. I noticed my tire seemed LOW. The attendant at the motel I was staying in recommended the Pep Boys. I thought - as experience has taught - this might turn into a huge deal with me buying a tire or two. I walked in and explained my situation and the gentleman at the counter was brief. He said, "pull up to the first bay and I'll meet you there." I pulled in and waited about 2 minutes when he appeared. Before I spoke he told me, "All the tires look good. The heat does cause tires to feel a bit different but your tires are solid. You're good to go." I hadn't realized that as soon as I pulled in - he was already checking and adjusting the tire pressures as needed. Talk about great service. And all with a smile. Thank you sir. I bought some tires and a road hazard warranty from a different Pep Boys almost two years/25,000 miles ago. Today one of those tires was flat - a nail or other road hazard. Brought the car here and the guy said the warranty didn't matter. I'd need to buy a new tire. Why not buy four tires while I was at it?! I said he was crazy: if they wouldn't honor my warranty, why would I buy anything else from them? Decided to drive to the Pep Boys franchise on the East side and they hooked me right up. Let me start off by saying the staff has been nice and the work good. Their prices are very competitive and I like that. I get my oil changed here fairly regularly and one day they suggested I get my shocks replaced on the oil change receipt paper. The price said it'd be $312. Then when I called they told me it'd be ~$390. When I complained about the discrepancy the guy on the phone (I think he was the manager) took off the warranty and that reduced it to about a total of $346. Okay, sure, still the most competitive price for what I was looking for. When I come to pickup my car, he comes out and prints a new one ~$364. While making comments like "let me give you a big discount" Honestly, I just wish they were consistent with the first price of 312 they printed, or even the second price. read more

Prior to coming to this establishment I changed my brake pads due to a squeaking sound on the front driver side. The squeaking continued so I decided to let the "professionals" deal with this and diagnose the problem. The shop informed me that it was a rotor issue, I then agreed to let the staff work on my vehicle while I waited. Be mindful I arrived as they opened, they then told me it would take 1 hour to 2 hours. Fast forward 4 and a half hours later, they send me a text message stating my car was done. I have to be at work in 30 minutes at this point. The gentleman working the desk gives me the keys and I go outside only to find out they are still working on the car. The mechanic stated they have made little to no progress and the squeaking was still occurring. He then said he would test one more time if it is making noise. My retinas began to burn in despair as I watched him put my car in drive as the wheels were still reversing, causing a noise in the engine now. 168.99$ later and the car is in FAR worse condition. I would return to this location to get my money back but I have moved 9 hours east. Highly do not recommend this business. read more

I only rate it one star, because zero is not available My son dropped off our car to get the AC fixed, they gave him an estimate of $149.99. when we picked up the car, the bill was $1141.92, we paid it to get our car and asked how we can lodge a formal complaint. On the way home, my son noticed that the "check engine" light was on. We complained at the store, to the service manager and through their formal complaint via internet and phone. Two days later the AC quit working completely. I took it to another shop and they found that Pep Boys had completely misdiagnosed the problem. Not one thing they did was necessary and the work that was necessary -- was not done. The entire problem was a freon discharge manifold that was leaking. They also found where Pep Boys had damaged a vacuum hose. Melgar Auto replaced the freon manifold and repaired the vacuum hose and the AC has performed well since. The bottom line to this -- they recognized that my son was new to car repairs and they totally exploited the situation to keep their mechanics busy and make some money. The work by Pep Boys was totally unnecessary and not only did they not find and correct the problem, but they did additional damage to my car. Furthermore we found that on several occasions they had lied to us. We filed a formal complaint with the credit card company and our account was credited in full. Very disappointing. I went in on a Saturday afternoon around 1:30. I had called ahead and asked how quickly they could get to my car to do an A/C recharge. They told me approximately an hour if we got it up there quickly. We dropped the vehicle off approximately 30 minutes later. We were told they hoped to get to the car in 30 minutes or so but it would take anywhere from an hour or longer to run their tests on the A/C. I informed the technician that I had previously had the A/C looked at by two other businesses and they were unable to find the leak. It was too minute. I told the tech that the A/C typically lasted 7-8 months before it ran out again. I was willing to just spend the 50 dollars recharging it. An hour and a half later I went back to check on my car and it had not moved. I was informed it might be a couple hours. I went home. It was not until 6:30 that I received a call saying the car was ready (the message cut off half way so I presumed it was ready). I went back to store where I was told they had filled A/C will dye to determine source of leak. They had not recharged the A/C as I had requested. I was directed to drive around a couple days and bring back. They were optimistic they would find the source and they hoped they wouldn't have to replace an expensive part. I asked them why they had not recharged the A/C as I requested. They said they didn't want to refill it if it was only going to leak out. They wanted to identify the leak. They wouldn't warranty any free refills if it did. I responded that I did not have faith they would find the leak as two previous companies could not find it. Pep boys urged me to follow their plan as even if they didn't find the leak they would warranty future refills. Please try to follow this logic (I couldn't not). I asked them how long this free refill on Freon would last. They said three months. I asked how did that help me when I had already told them the A/C lasted 7 to 8 months. The tech begrudgingly admitted it didn't help me. After much discussion with their manager, they agreed to refill my A/C for the originally discussed cost of $50. Despite fact my car was with them for five hours, it took them 10 minutes to refill. I have no idea if it was a full recharge of if I got screwed. BEWARE. read more

The WORST customer service ever. Dropped the truck off at 11:30 for an oil change, air filter change, and rotate and balance tires. I was told it would take 1 to 1 1/2 hours. I left numerous contact numbers and asked to be called when the truck was ready. As I hadn't heard anything by 2:00 pm, I called the shop. I was told the truck was not ready yet, and they would need another 15 - 30 minutes. I again asked to be called when the truck was ready. Again, no call. I went to the shop at 3:15 pm to check on the truck. I was given the receipt and the keys to my truck. As I got into my truck, I found half eaten jerky sticks had been left in my truck. This is the third, and last time I will visit this shop. My experience has been the same all three times. read more

Took my car in after engine was making a noise. Charged me for engine diagnostics test. They gave me a list of things they said needed replace, however stated they needed to do additional test to check for compression. And that it was possible I needed a new engine. I agreed to the additional diagnostic test with the expectation of having it repaired at this garage. I was told cylinder 6 was bad and I needed a new engine. It wax at this point that I was told they don't do that at this garage. I was charged almost 500 dollars for very basic diagnostic. I myself put a code reader on my vehicle prior to going to this shop... I knew by that alone that there was a misfire in cylinder 6. I would have never agreed to the compression test if I knew they were not going to be able to repair the issue. I would have taken the car to a place that was capable of fixing the problem. The 500 dollars would have been absorbed into the overall maintenance and repair. The problem with these places is the people at the desk don't know anything about auto mechanics. You rely on them to relay what you said and relay the problems to the technicians and hope they are able to explain things to them. Mechanics should be the ones who speak with the car owner. It leaves out any miscommunication and they can expand upon the issues and ask appropriate questions to help narrow down the problems. read more

Firstly, the employees were very polite and friendly. But, you have to take the initiative to make sure your vehicle has in fact been serviced. They say they'll call, but they didn't in my case. I had to call them and my car had been serviced by the time I had to call and find out what was going on. Then I was told they would return my call in 5,10, or 15 minutes with an estimate for the service I needed. Nearly an hour had gone by and no phone call. Finally I call again to get the ball rolling. So if you don't have all day to watch over these guys, you might want to go somewhere a little more reliable. read more

We went to Wal-Mart to kill some more time, and spent another hour there. Went back, and they STILL haven't gotten to our vehicle, and there was another in line ahead of ours! Today 3/26/18 i took my car in for a simple oil change to PepBoys on Mesa st. The attendant at the mechanic shop side quoted me an hour and a half wait time for an oil change which seemed excessive but I agreed to it. I went to pick up my car 2 hours later just to find out they never worked on it. He never called me to advise of a delay either. This was very unprofessional and a huge inconvenience. If I could have given this business a rating lower than one star, I would have. They replaced my clutch incorrectly, and it made noise for two weeks afterward. Called 3 times, was told noise was "normal." Took it in the week after and they charged me $550 for a new flex plate and then blamed me for the whole thing, even though they insisted over the phone nothing was wrong. Avoid Robert and Danny especially, they swing their dicks around and talk over any woman who dares question them. Avoid this place and save yourself a huge headache! I would give no stars if I could. They DENTED our car and our door was damaged because it rolled off the lift. I get that accidents like this happen, but the very frustrating part is that the management brushed it off repeatedly. Initially they were helpful but after a while, they were hard to get a hold of and didn't follow through with us. We still haven't gotten an insurance claim. Super frustrating. read more

(yes 40 mins is quick since they were super busy) Everyone was friendly and they even give us tips on some good restaurants to try. Oh and by the way, inspection is pretty cheap! My engine light came on and Pep Boys said they had fixed the problem. About 50 miles later, the engine light came back on. What Pep Boys did was disconnect the battery which turns the engine light off temporarily, because they could not actually fix the problem and they're looking to charge more money to fix another problem. I needed to change all four tires on my vehicle back in 2012 and costco didn't have the size available. I drive to pepboys on north mesa and get it done. So there I go, thinking what a great deal I got and then out of nowhere see a light on my dashboard start staring me down. TPMS it said. Ok, lets get home and research it. I find out it is the tire pressure monitoring system at fault. I call pepboys and they said it ahould disappear after driving the car for a bit. A week later I drive over to pep boys and explain to the guy at the front desk my situation. He calls over the main mechanic and I explain my situation once more. The main tech guy educates me about how changes in temperature outdoors can affect the pressure in the tires. I explain to him that my car is equiped with both a pressure warning light and the TPMS light and my car had the TPMS light on ever since the tire change. He said they would take a look at it. 3 hours later and my son doing his homework in the waiting area, they said its good to go, drive it a little and it should go away. So I drive to las cruces and back home and no change. Next day, I call back and they ask me to come back. Well, dejavu because the same thing happened and after the three hour wait, the main mechanic says it is most likely one of the TPMS sensors in the tires and that I will need to take my car over to the dealership for repair. Ok, but who is going to pay for such repairs I ask....and both main mechanic and manager stare at each other with the goofiest ???? face they could make. Knowing then what I was up against, I go home and call the 800 number for pepboys to file a claim/complaint. They, in turn, get the same pep boys to call me back and the manager asks me to take the car back. There I went thinking that since they gor some attention put on them from corporate, maybe they will do something. I take my car back and guess what? Dejavu once again. Three hours later, main mechanic explains to me once again about how tire pressure can change with the environment and that I should tace my car to the dealer. I start to think...6 years in the NAVY as an Electronics Technician and finishing up my bachelors has put an IDIOT stamp on my forehead?... Not wanting to argue nor reason with ignorance, I drove home and called the 800 number to update them that there was no resolution and it was wasting my time and money driving back and forth. Manager calls me back a day later and asks to take the car back. Heck no! I simply feared that they would put another fault in my car out of spite. I leave a review on google and the manager responds how sorry he is to hear blah blah blah scrypted response and asks for me to take my car in so they can take a look. By then, I was past angry and could only laugh at the moronic behavior. 4 years later (April 2017) of driving with that annoying orange TPMS light on my dashboard, I had to replace the tires once again. So I drive over to pepboys.....hahaha just kidding. I order the tires from Costco online and they got installed days later. I explained to the tech about the TPMS light and to replace any sensors that they had to replace. And just that easy, no more TPMS light and no extra charge for any TPMS sensors because nothing was wrong with any sensor and simply readjusting them solved it. So be warned with the kind of shady customer service you will be putting up with if your service at pepboys goes awry. read more

My truck was there for five hours and nobody called me with an update. I called them four times and was put on hold and never given any answers. Terrible service. I got my car inspected here a week ago, and did not notice until later that they only gave me the receipt and not the inspection form. I went back today to pick up the form. Upon arrival, i was ignored by at least 3 staff members (Robert and Don were 2 of them) for several minutes before they finally acknowledged me. I asked if they could print the form for me, and i was asked to wait outside while they printed it. A few minutes later, a 4th staff member came outside and asked for my keys. I asked why he needed my keys and he told me my car was never inspected in the first place. He then proceeded to inspect it and handed back the keys and said i was good to go without any apology. So basically they charged me for an inspection last week, made me wait several hours, and then sent me on my way without ever inspecting my car. A simple "sorry" would have gone a long way, but they couldn't even manage that. read more
