I received an estimate of just over five hundred dollars to replace the oil pan gasket on my 21-year-old vehicle. Once they determined the oil pan itself also had to be replaced, I searched online for the part, discovering such for $39.95 at a nearby auto parts store. THIS I verbally approved. At no time was I provided a written estimate for this work. When the car was ready, I was presented a bill for over eight hundred dollars. I objected but, obviously, had to pay. Just never seem to be satisfied with the service, or attempt to get service First experience was after I had purchased tires online from pep boys, set an appointment to go in and have them installed, Upon arrival, the manager was unable to find my order, then told me they would be unable to honor the pricing I had paid for!!! I presented the printed receipt and requested that the tires I ordered be installed at the price advertised or I wanted a refund. After much grumbling and 2 1-2 hours!!! I drove out with the tires Second attempt , I found a screw in one of the tires, wanting to utilize the road hazard , and warranty coverage, I stopped in to have a simple patch, and was told they would not be able to service me that day and suggested I make an appointment for another day, all while I'm having to air up the tire at least twice a day, Never will I ever again be using this company read more

Avoid this location because you'll just get lied to and ripped off. We called this store at least 3 times on 4/21 to make an appointment. The manager at the store, also only guy answering the phones, said they "were slow and an appointment wasn't necessary". The last time we called, around 15:30 we double checked that there was going to be time to perform a wheel alignment on the car if we arrived around 16:00. Again, we were reassured there was plenty of time. When we arrived to drop the car off the manager informed us they were too busy and couldn't fit the car in before 18:00 (during the last two open hours). I'm confused what happened in a matter of 30 minutes between the phone call and arrival that all of sudden got the shop slammed and couldn't fit in a basic wheel alignment???? The manager frankly called my boyfriend a liar to his face and said he never talked with either of us on the phone and he was the only one who had been taking calls all day . After some 'conversation' the manager agreed to fit us in. However, the situation gets worse. I specifically asked that the two BRAND NEW tires I brought in, to be installed on the front wheels and the existing two to be rotated to the back. When I asked the shop why they did the opposite I was given a BS excuse they weren't allowed to put new tires on the front of a FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CAR......seriously. None of the tires had the same Psi and the shop stole my OEM valve stem caps. We had to stop at WaWa after picking up the car and add air to even out the Psi on all tires. In summary: we over paid, were lied to, valve stem caps stolen and had to fix PSI in all tires. Save your money and keep stress levels down by avoiding this location. read more

I saw a add for a basic brake job for $114.00 and that is all that I needed. The man in charge said that they would inspect the brakes and if I needed rotors that would be extra. I have over fifty years experience working on cars and I know what I am talking about. Just as I expected they said that the rotors were bad. I left pep boys thinking that the probably never do a basic brake job. I went to an independent repair shop and they pulled the rear wheels and let me look at the rotors. They are in good shape, no grooves ,no warping. They replaced the brake pads and I was on my way in about 30 minutes ,with a smile on my face. The bill for this great service was les than one hundred bucks. LOOK OUT AT PEP BOYS!! read more

I made an appointment to get an alignment at 11 am. They said i needed a new tire due to my alignment ruining it (which was true) . I waited 2 hours and a half damn near for a tire change and an alignment. Mind you when i get my car back my drivers seat was dirty AS HELL. I know my car wasnt the absolute cleanest but im a girl and my work field doesnt involve any type of dirt nor does it get my clothes dirty where itll stain my seats. I let them know and they said that it wasnt them, that my seats were already like that.. if you work at a car shop and you leave someones car seat dirty with oil and dirt and car residue , what would you think? I was already super frustrated so after they kept insisting that it wasnt them but they would "wipe" off my seat , i just told them to leave it and to just not touch my car again. I left in tears because i am only a girl with no support, left with stained seats. After leaving my engine light turned on so i went to autozone and they told me that it was something with my tires and that the coding said there was no signal in the tired or whatever that may mean but they ended up telling me that pep boys shouldve taken care of that since they did replace my tire and did the alignment. I call back and they tell me i have to pay for a separate service for that. They failed to let me know that and just ruined my overall experience. I will never come back. I will never trust this establishment again. Worst experience EVER. read more

Went in for an oil change. Guy told me I needed new tires. I said that is impossible. I just got new tires. He then said just the front two. I said are you sure because I just replaced the driver side tire the day before Thanksgiving. (I also was on vacation so I had only been actually driving he car a couple of weeks after I bought it). He then said something about measurements bla bla bla. All these places are the same. They just try to get you to buy stuff when you have an oil change coupon. Otherwise, he was friendly and the place was clean. It took over 40 minutes to get an oil change. I will just go to valvoline next time. read more

Couldn't have had a better experience with this shop today. Kenny and Omar were nice as could be. I had ordered 4 tires online and showed up for my install so they knew I was prepared to buy 4 tires. When I get there I asked for their opinion on my existing tire tread and they advised that I really didn't need to replace all my tires - just the one that had blown. Just Brakes I went in for a new front disc pads they quoted a price lower than I expected ($119) - I was pleasantly surprised. I was nonetheless very specific that I wanted only the front brake pads replaced. They told me it would be about two hours. Almost 4 hours later, the service manager called and said "we found THE problem with your car". He went on to say that my rear axle was leaking. I told him "don't touch another thing - I will be there in a couple of minutes". Sure enough when I got to the shop, they had removed all four wheels and brake drums and the hood to my car was open. I was immediately suspicious and pissed. The service manager then pointed to normal dirt buildup on my rear axle and tried to tell me that I had a major problem. I reminded him that I instructed him to replace only the front brake pads - nothing more. I questioned why they were poking around in other areas He said it was their "policy". I smelled a scam and told him so. I told them to put my car back together immediately. I watched intently as they did. I then took my keys and left. Be aware, and use caution dealing with this place. I suspect the upfront quote is just a ruse to sucker you in to additional (unneeded) work. read more

I have been to other Pep Boys locations and had good experiences. So today I was in need of some break work and though I would try this location out. It's near my house and right off 41. They were very professional and quick. They called and went over everything that needed to be done and suggested a few other items to take care of. They were not pushy when I asked to just take care of my immediate concern with my breaks. They earned my trust and when I am ready to get the other work done I will defiantly go to them. read more

I was warmly greeted as I walked through the front door by the manager, Roberto. He was aware I had an appointment for a battery installation and quickly processed my paper work. He answered all my questions and acted very professional. He took my key and my car was in the bay within minutes. Twenty five minutes later my car was ready. Had them inspect my brakes, they manager told me I needed a complete brake job (new pads, rotors and calibers). He could have got me with just the pads and rotors but I knew calibers normally last the life of a car. My VW was only 9 years old. So I went to Goodyear and got another estimate. Turns out I only needed pads and resurfacing of the rotors. Avoid this place. Not honest or just incompetent. read more

If you want to get screwed, do business with pep boys..... very misleading and deceptive advertising... the salesman filed out the work order and had me sign it, only to find out after the work was completed that it wasn't want I wanted, and he knew what I wanted...... 1) they show expired coupons on website 2) I asked only to put pads on front and back of my van. Salesman said I should get rotors serviced with pads for $150 3) he then calls me out to garage to tell me my rotors are down past serviceable zone. My rotors were 1.07 he said specs are min. of 1.04. so he said my rotors were below specs. I said no, he said yea, I said no, he said yes, I finally said lets move on, what do you want. He said that means now that there is no warranty for pads so he said he will go back to pads only for $100 each. I said that's what I wanted in first place. do it.' 4) later he said power steering fluid and brake fluids looked a little dark and I might need tires. once again, within safe specs but he suggested to change tires at a brake shop. (yea right) I said how much for fluids. he said $100 for power steering flush and $70 for brake flush. I said no. He said there was a deal and he pointed to sign. Sign was for shocks but there was small handwritten statement saying $20 off all fluids service. so he said brake fluid flush was only $50. I said what about power steering flush. He said he took $20 off that amount already so its still $100. (He cant even lie well) So I asked what will total be for those two flushes and brakes. He said $350. I said fine. 5) When it was done I asked what amount would be. he said he will tell me in a second. He says swipe your credit card. I said I still don't know total. He said he will show me after I run it. SO he says its $425. I said how did it jump by $75. he said I must not have added tax. I said.tax on $350 would be $25.wheres the other $50 come from. He said theres $35 service fee all mechanics charge. I said not true because I was at a mechanic 2 days ago and if there was a fee he added it into work done and not hide it til the end. I asked why he didn't say anything when I asked him earlier what total would be. He said, I'm pretty sure I said $350 plus taxes and fees. I told him he didn't and had he said it, I would have questioned the fees part and why not add it when I asked for total. I didn't ask for partial total but total of work and I can do tax math myself. I told him he was dirty and paid and left 6) on the drive home I noticed my entire glove compartment was ransacked. I have factory tires and I never mentioned I had lock nuts and any moron would notice there were no lock nuts on van so there was no reason to search my car. Unacceptable behavior there. read more

After having inspection from Kia, we decided we wanted to have our service done elsewhere, as dealerships usually up charge the service. We told "Bud" the manager that we were told by Kia that we needed a full service brake job, including pads and rotors. We specifically told him that if the car needed new rotors, please have it done at the same time as brake pads so we don't get double charged for labor. Bud told us we only needed brake pads and the rotors were fine. ON HIS SUGGESTION, we did not replace the rotors. Brakes were fine until a few days later when the whole car started to shake when hitting the brakes at high speed. Upon calling Just Brakes, we were told we would have to pay for parts AND labor because the rotors probably had to be replaced. Do not go to this Just Brakes location, they will try and scam you to make more money. We, however, went to another Just Brakes location and found that the service was excellent and prices reasonable. The service manager, Tobin, was very helpful and informative. This location is in Sarasota on Bee Ridge & McIntosh. DO NOT GO TO JUST BRAKES IN BRADENTON. read more
