Been here 3 times for different services. Customer service is very good and I've never had a problem with their work. I like how easy it is to book services online and make appointments. Everything is linked to your account so it's easy for them to pull up and another huge benefit is that they have coupons! Pretty good deals on most things but not everything so def shop around and compare. They're usually cheaper than the dealership so that's a plus. I've gotten an oil change here and a 3 step fuel injection cleaning (wouldn't recommend that--good example of one of their overpriced services), a brake check for free, and a wheel alignment/tire rotation. Just like some recent reviewers have mentioned, I'm surprised by how bad the reviews on here were, that did not match my experience at all. I choose pep boys simply because they had the best deal on the tires I wanted for my car. Starting a story like this usually ends with me being disappointed b/c of uncharges, or poor service, or being given a hard sell. None of that happened here. I initially made my appointment for 8am, hoping to be the first one in and get the work done before I had to go to work. Unfortunately, when I spoke to the shop, they mentioned that the online system was wrong and that they don't generally take appointments before 9:30 because they want the extra time to finish any jobs from the prior day. Would have been nice if the online system knew this, but at least they told me before I showed up, so points for good customer service there. I showed up about 15 min prior to my appointment was was checked in very efficiently by the person working the desk. She was friendly but gave me the not-so-welcome news that even though my appointment was for 9:30, they like to allow a couple hrs for service and that It may not be until noon when they are ready for me to get my car. Unfortunately, I had nowhere else to go as I had been planning to just go to work late once the service had been done. I settled into their waiting room figuring I would just hope for the best. In another unexpected turn, the car before mine took them a little longer than anticipated and my car didn't get started on until almost 10am. Only a 30min delay, and they were apologetic, so no big deal. I was able to see them working on my car through the window. Although the service took a lot longer than I would have expected (aprox a full hour) I could see that they were working the whole time, and we doing a very thorough and professional job. In the end, I was out about an hour before the noon estimate. At the end they took my payment and alerted me that my breaks were in need of a service. They didn't hard sell me, they didn't say it needed to be done then and there. They were more professional and less pushy than almost any repair shop I have ever dealt with. TLDR: Great experience, great service, don't expect them to do a super quick job, but they will do it professionally within a reasonable period of time. read more

Ok service and sloppy work. I had a simple tire replacement. They changed the out ok but left all four tires a very dirty mess with white grease all over them. I was in a hurry and it was freezing so I didn't inspect the work before leaving. If they can't even clean up brand new tires to look nice before giving it back to rhe customer then what other things are they not doing right? read more

I'm very surprised at the reviews on here, as I had an excellent experience at my recent visit. My brakes had been squeaking for quite some time, and other shops I went to said the brakes were fine and couldn't seem to figure out the reason. My husband had a good experience with Pep Boys in the past, so I made an appt at the Catonsville location on a Sat afternoon. It turns out my previous mechanic had used the wrong sized brake pads which was causing the noise and damaging the rotors in the process. So I got both sets replaced for a reasonable price and my car was done by the time they closed. They even honored a coupon I presented at the last minute. So they fixed the problem, and everyone was friendly from the initial phone call to when my car was done. I couldn't have asked for a better experience! read more

On 11/27 I booked an appointment online to have my car serviced (tire rotation and oil change). On 12/1 someone from the Peep Boys location on rt 40, in Catonsville called me to tell me that they had a lot of appointments on Monday and if it would be possible to drop my car off on Sunday night and leave the keys in the drop box. I dropped my car off on the evening of 12/1 along with the keys in the drop box and filled out the envelope, I made sure that I heard the keys drop inside. My car appointment was for 12/2 @ 9:30 am. On 12/2 @ 11am I called and the lady in front told me that a tech was looking at my car and she would call me back shortly. I never received a call, so I called back around 1pm. The manager Pat answered and said, let me check on your car. He left me on hold for 15 minutes, and the call dropped. I called back every 1/2 hour and my call went to the answering machine. At 4pm the manager Pat answered as if he was answering his home phone...short and rude. I asked about my vehicle and he said they did not have my vehicle or keys. I explained that I dropped my vehicle off the night before and put my keys in the box. He said we don't have your keys so obviously the work hasn't been done, nothing else I can do for you and hung up the phone...WTF!! I called back and said is this a joke...I dropped my keys off.... again, Pat was rude. I had a neighbor bring me to the Pep boys and when I entered, I told the lady at the front who I was and explained what was going on. She immediately pulled out an envelope and handed me my keys. I said why didn't someone call to say she found them? She said Idk but my manger brought the envelope to me. I asked for Pat, and he was rude, arrogant and said my car didn't get serviced because I didn't put the keys in the box properly...and that the whole situation was my fault, and nothing could be done since they are booked. I was disgusted with this unprofessional behavior. This could have been worked out... I believe the store was overwhelmed with the customers and the manager has poor mgmt. skills. I wrote earlier of a miserable experience with the predatory fraudsters at a Pep Boys Store located at 6515 Baltimore National Pike, Baltimore, MD 21228. After my first review, I received this note (via email on January 31, 2021) "We apologize for the poor experience you had. Please send us your contact info and the details...." I wrote and received another email on February 4, 2021 "Thank you for reaching out to us. We do apologize for the poor experience. "We can file a case on your behalf to be reviewed by Senior Management in which you will be contacted within 48 hours..." I informed Pep Boys again and commented that I had already sent the details previously. All attempts to call have failed. No one has called me. At 5 AM 2/7/21, a poorly note from someone name L.Z. stated, " Thank you for your email, we spoke to you over the phone and filed case # ********* which was resolve at the senior management level." No one has spoken to me, no. one has called me, no one from Pep Boys 6515 Baltimore National Pike, Baltimore, MD 21228 has attempted to resolve a thing. PepSocial (I guess a corporate entity) adds to the attempted fraud by lying about a resolution and contact with me. The people who have written have no command of communication and make no solid points. They obfuscate all truth and pretend they will help with a resolution to the attempted fraud upon me. Picked up a new car for my daughter that was outside of Philly last week. Car drove fine for a few hours when all of sudden on the expressway the car would not accelerate, so we pulled over. Tow truck suggested we take the car to this particular Pep Boys and we are so glad we did! In my 45 years on this earth I've NEVER seen a shop care more about my car than me, and they did just that! The serpentine belt was shredded and came off the car so they replaced that but they went multiple steps further to find the root cause as to what caused the belt (which was 2-days old at the time) to shred the way it did. They kept it and tested it the whole day to make sure that our trip back to Louisville, KY was a safe one with no issues out of the belt again. Zero issues. It's hard finding good, reliable, and honest people in life in general...but it's most def hard to find them in an auto repair shop! They even called me to make sure we made it home safe. Daughter needed one damaged tire replaced and potential to replace others She paid a 90$ cash consultation fee?????? only to find out they wanted to charge 200 to replace the one tire and 600$ for all four with "discount". Tires were not even available and would need to be ordered as not in stock which was impractical as damaged tire needed to be replaced???? She left and was not able to get consultation fee refunded. I called a few Pep Boys while waiting to get my car towed from having a flat tire. They all said that they didn't have any available appointments today, I called this location and they said they would be able to fit me in no problem. I'm from out of town and headed back home so it was important to get back on the road. One of the employees even had to drive to another location 30 minutes away to get a tire that fit my car. Customer service here is nonexistent. Aside from no one simply acknowledging customers when they enter the store, everyone working here seemed to hate their job. There was a line at checkout, so I asked two of the guys chatting it up at the "Service & Auto Parts" desk if they could help me reach a bottle of oil on the top shelf (because every brand of what I could possibly use was out of reach or not replenished). The associate's response: "No, they can help you at the checkout desk." My reply: "Oh, wow...well can I ask you a question about something else I'm looking for that I need for my car?" The associate: "No, unless you're getting your car serviced here, I can't help you. They can help you at checkout." I clearly interrupted their personal conversation...nevermind the fact that the cashiers were clearly busy at the time. How dare I assume that someone wearing a Pep Boys shirt, while standing at a service desk inside of a Pep Boys store would be able to assist me with purchasing something from their establishment. I stopped in this location to pick up a cabin air filter for my car. I didn't really know which one to get so I asked one of the service guys about what I should get. Instead of giving me options the guy just picked the first one that came up.. No one in the store was really friendly but not rude either.. Just kinda blah. I'm not sure I would trust them working on my car based on the reviews but i can see running in to pick something up when I'm in the area. I was pleasantly surprised by the service work and condition of the waiting area. They have worked on the store's layout and updated the service waiting area. Had 4 new tires installed, purchased via web. Great deal, scheduled service online. Tires waiting when I presented for the work. Technician was very competent and was thorough in his work. For example, cleaning the wheel hubs before reinstalling wheels or pointing out that the alignment could not be completed because the inner tie rods needed to be replaced which I knew and was waiting to see if they were going to try to do the alignment anyway just for the billable hours. Internet is free (Pep Boys Guest network) with multiple charging stations and comfortable seating. Coffee was fresh and free!!!! Only draw back was the service desk attendant. Just average. Made me wait to check-in while he completed stocking and had a hands-free connection running while checking my out. At least, he did not carry on the phone conversation while ringing me up but it was an open line with a friend on the other end. read more

If you need parts, come here first! Pep Boys had a hard to find oil for my diesel car that most bulletin boards said I could only get at the dealer. Paul at Pep Boys was amazingly helpful in a genuine way when I went in looking for the oil, convinced I wouldn't find it (I had missed the parts counter at my dealer closing by 1 minute!) It's really hit or miss with this Pep Boys location. Some of the associates are really nice (TJ) others are just really not at all professional. I took my car here to get some work done on it and an oil change. I picked it up later in the evening right before they closed. As I was driving off, I noticed that it just didn't feel right. I turned around and explained to the automotive associate that my car was making a weird clicking noise. He basically told me that I can either keep it at the shop or return in the morning because the person who worked on it wasn't there anymore and they were getting ready to close. This is 30 minutes before closing and there were other mechanics at the shop. I decided to take it home. However, I got less than a mile away before I heard a clank and pop. My car jerked to the right resulting in me almost hitting the barrier wall. I was able to safely pull over. I called the shop very shaken and upset. They basically told me that they couldn't do anything and that I needed to call the tow truck. At the end of the day, I had the car towed back to a shop. The next day they said they looked at it and found no issues. I explained to them that not only did I hear the noise but the tow truck driver heard it as well. They still couldn't find the problem. I left it there to be looked at even though I had several important deadlines coming up and needed my car. The following day, I returned with a friend to pick the car up after being told it was ready. I heard the same noise and returned the car back to the shop. My friend (male) even heard the noise and explained with even more clarity that my car was not fixed. I left it there over the weekend which was a very big inconvenience. After the weekend, I returned to the shop to drive the mechanic around in it. The noise was mysteriously gone. However, the gears were jerking each time I shifted and the check engine light stayed on. The mechanic tried to tell me that I needed to get my transmission fluid changed. At this time, I was so annoyed because I knew that they were trying to cover up the fact that there was a noise by fixing the issue. Three people heard the noise and clanking, it wasn't just me! Also, after taking the car, I noticed that my speedometer and odometer stopped working along with the clanking noise each time the gears shifted. I took the car to another shop and it turned out that it was a wire that needed to be replaced and that I did not need have my transmission fluid changed. After my ordeal with Pep Boys, I doubt that I will return to this location. They didn't offer me an apology or any type of discount. Just tried to sell me more tires. This is not my first negative encounter with them. I bought a tire for my other car years ago only to have it go flat half way down the road. I'm sure they have some really good mechanics but I won't trust them with any of my cars anymore. Not to mention their key drop off box hasn't worked in well over a year. Called on a Saturday to make an appointment to get 4 new tires (purchased elsewhere) installed and an alignment. The female employee gave me an appointment for the next day, Sunday, at 1 pm. I appear at the empty service desk at 12:50 PM on Sunday, and have to ask one of the checkout employees to find the service guy. Several minutes later, Mohammad appears. He tells me there is 1 technician and multiple vehicles ahead of mine, so it will be at least an hour before they can take my vehicle in for service. Then another 1-1.5 hours for tire installation and alignment. I had no ride, so I asked for an appointment on another day. (Smart choice, given what happens next.) Appointment #2: Wednesday at 5 pm. I appear at 4:50 pm at the again empty service desk, and again ask one of the checkout employees to find the service guy. Deja vu: Several minutes later, Mohammad finally appears. He tells me there are 2 appointments for 5 pm, and 1 technician until a second comes in at 6 pm. The other appointment brought their vehicle in before me, so they're first in line. (In what world doe it makes sense to schedule 2 appointments at the same time with only 1 technician? In the world where Customer Service is the last & lowest priority.) What Mohammad did not mention, but that I pointed out to him, was that there was another vehicle being worked on by their 1 technician, so the other 5 pm appointment was already late for being serviced. I thought about leaving, but I really needed those tires on my vehicle, and this time I had arranged a ride. Mohammad told me my vehicle would be ready between 7 and 7:30 pm. Having caught on to Pep Boys' ridiculously slow timing, I returned at 7:50, aware that the store closes at 8 pm. The vehicle from the other 5 pm appointment was in the alignment box with one technician; and another vehicle - not mine - was being serviced by the second technician. Mohammad (who again took several minutes to appear at the service desk) advised me the new tires were on my vehicle. He said alignments take 45 minutes and mine was waiting for the other vehicle to come out. (Note: that other vehicle with the 5 pm appointment had been there longer than mine, and hours later was still there.) So I was looking at waiting in a closed store for another hour: time for an alignment after the other vehicle came out. I cancelled the alignment, paid the bill for the tire installation, and left. There are any number of other places to take my vehicle for an alignment where appointments are honored, and service guys don't have to be hunted down. read more

Pep boys are untrustworthy. They intentionally tried to con me on work that I didn't need to have done. I waited over two hours to have a diagnostic test to see why my check engine light was on. I told Pep boys that I probably needed a tune up and I was told by Pep boys that they needed to test the o2 sensors, catalytic converter and so on. After paying $100.00 diagnostic fee to test those parts, I was told that I needed a catalytic converter. I declined and took my car to Honda and was told that I needed a tune up. So Pep boys, wasted two hours of my time, charged $100 fraudulent diagnostic fee, and tried to con me out of $1000.00 for a catalytic converter that I didn't need. Pep boys are a SCAM and they will milk you out of your money. Stay away from them and take your car else where. read more

Went in on 11/12/17 to get tire fixed and battery checked since both were under warranty. The never acknowledged that I was there upon walking in the store maybe because they was standing around talking. The service guy told me they was busy and to either drop it off or come back another day. When I told him I had no one to pick me up he told me to come back another day or go to another Pep Boys. Well I went to the one on Liberty Road and got much better service and the guy there said "when we call the Catonsville store they are rude or never answer the phone to help us" you know it's bad when another store complains about another store's customer service skills. read more

Apparently, I had a different set of employee's working here when I had my car worked on. I went in to have a tire replaced and my oil changed. I had absolutely no problems, and Steve at the front desk was one of the nicest people I ever ran across. The other guy working there, I can't remember his name, even maybe a fresh pot of coffee. Granted that this may not necessarily be the cheapest place to get a tire, But certainly not quite as bad as some the other review state. I cannot attest to their mechanical ability, since all I had done was an oil change and a tire replaced. But they seemed like they were doing a fairly efficient job. I made an appointment a week ago for saturday 10am and I drop of my car at 9.30am to get replace defect axle( they broke my axle before and they replaced with defect re manufactured axle) today is sunday 5.30 pm, 2 days already passed they still did not fix it. And they say we are going to finish it monday morning and of course they are not giving exact time to finish it. Because they don't want to fix it quickly in warranty. Axle replacement takes only 30-45 mins. And they called me again they say your tire has a big glass. When I drop my car was ok nothing was wrong with my tire. They want $100 to fix it and they say we are not responsible for it (like a joke). I don't trust pepboys services anymore. pepboys does not even deserve 1 star feedback. I wish I could give this location ZERO stars and wish I would have read these horrible reviews before my husband took his van here for service. If you are reading this review PLEASE do NOT take your car to this Pep Boys. We spent $518 to have the van break down on the way home. We were lied to by Mohammed who agreed to the work we wanted completed, never contacted when the van was ready (we had to call them to be told he left us a message they couldn't complete all the work we asked for. NO message, NO missed calls. How are you going to decide to NOT do all the work agreed upon and not call us back for approval and charge us $518?!?!? I called and spoke to the manager, Kevin, who believes Mohammed tried to reach us. I offered to bring him my cell phone and show me the missed call and message. Even if Mohammed did leave a message, why do the work without speaking to us?!?!? So basically we are screwed out of $518 because I don't trust them now especially after calling them again today. And yes, I saw the cut and paste message from Pep Boys to email them to discuss in more detail. I will email but don't have any expectations. Will NEVER enter this store again. Spent $518 to have a hose replaced that my husband could have replaced. Pitiful. read more

I received exceptional service from this specific location! I came in after having Sears break my tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) on my 2015 Scion TC and gave me a "new" tire that blew after 2 weeks of driving it. I then called in to this location and was assisted by a very patient and informative person by the name of Zach. He gave me a few different tire options and we finally decided on 4 of the cheapest ones they had available. We were able to schedule an appointment for the next day since they only had 3 tires in which was fine since I called so late in the day. Once I came in I was greeted by TJ who has since helped me numerous times for a few reasons. The sensor that was originally replaced my Sears was still not working and my car was now shaking after they replaced and balanced all the tires. So I brought it back in to have a new sensor put in and to have them re-balance my car. TJ explained to me why the car was shaking and was able to fix that as well as install the sensor at a discounted rate since I had to bring it back in. I came back to pick up the car and the new sensor was still not working, TJ suggested I bring it to the Pep Boys on Liberty Rd stating that they have the "cord" to reprogram the sensor. This was after he came back out to my car for the second time (because he had to the first time as well) to use the "sensor checker" to see if they were working. He was always willing to wait for me to test drive it or walk out to the car with me so that I can show him what the issues were. (To make an already long story a bit shorter) Chris from the Liberty Road location who was also very friendly and helpful redirected me back to the Baltimore National Pike location and had me ask for Mike and Zach. Luckily Zach answered the phone and I explained to him what was going on. He suggested I take my car to the dealership to have them reprogram it. He said he would incur the costs if there was a sensor issue, if it was a computer issue he would not since that would be out of his control. It was indeed a sensor issue but, that is only because (which I later learned) Toyota makes it to where only Toyota sensors can be put into Toyota vehicles and only they can reprogram it. I probably called Zach at least 100 times that day (12/12/16) and never did he act annoyed or was he upset. Normal customers would probably be extremely upset/annoyed/pissed off but, because of their patient attitude and willingness to help to make sure a resolution came out of this I truly would highly recommend them. Also, it is not their fault that Toyota creates products that forces you to use their brand in order for it to work. The tires sold work perfectly fine, the car still shakes a bit but that's because my rims are apparently slightly bent due to the potholes in this area. The prices are reasonable and they will most likely honor online discounts in the store or they will work with you the best that they can. This Pep boys managed to house all the incompetent car service peeps to ever apply for a job. From the service manager David, down to John, the man who cannot figure anything out on his own. I brought in my car on a Tuesday for 12pm appt to diagnose and fix check engine light. John didn't actually get the appt in system since he was distracted. Kris, the other manager was rude and unnecessary. Pierre (one of the mechanics) said he'll do diagnostic no fix and I'll have to come back. 9 hours and 90 dollars later I got my car back that Tuesday night. I made an appointment for 9am that Saturday while speaking with David Williams. He said it was a 2 hours job and I should have my car max by 2pm. I stopped by 2:2pm, and David laughs in my face and says he's going to Toyota right now to get my part. He reassured me he'll have it done by end of day. I came back at closing time only for John to ask me "Were we supposed to work on your car?" ohh noo, I just dropped it off for mani/pedi. He didn't get the sarcasm and told me to come back monday to get it. As if I don't have work, or family, or errands to run myself. Neither David, John, or Nicole (the store manager) bothered to call me to tell me it'll need to stay longer or I can pick it up and bring it later. They just held my car hostage for 20 hours only to do nothing and I have to bring it again and arrange transportation. If I wasn't getting it free of charge after all this, I would have taken it somewhere else. But alas, don't go to this location (I have had better experience with one in Towson).
