I used to go to this place for YEARS to have service done . . . not anymore! I have absolutely no idea what caused the decline in service, but something needs to change and it needs to change fast!!! Don't bother making an appointment to have your car fixed because they won't have mechanics available when you make said appointment. They told me I would have to wait 3 hours until a mechanic can even look at my car. I felt like I was in an episode of Seinfeld. Why make appointments when you can't keep them? Ugh!!! I called this store to get a price on buying 2 Monroe shocks and have them installed.I saw the ad for as low as $17.50 per shock installed.The price of each shock was $54 each. I talked to the service guy and he said $635 total. I said what happened to $54 per shock and $17.50 to install.He said that is the online price.He took off $100 after I questioned the price. He told me to call customer service. I called CS and that was a bigger waste of time.They had no idea and she said she had to call the store to speak to the guy I already spoke to.After 15 minutes she said it would be $108 plus $220 for the labor. I said I thought it was as low as $17.50 per shock. She said I don't know. I said the ad is very misleading. She said she was sorry for the confusion. I said confusion. I said false advertising. If I could give 0 stars I would. Customer service here is AWFUL. I am currently at Pep Boys waiting on an oil change. I have been here for over an hour and a half. I called before coming and was told to come right in because they are "not busy". It took me less than 10 mins to arrive. There were 2 people ahead of me when I arrived. I asked again how long will the oil change would take before handing over my keys. I was told "no more than 45 minutes". At the 90 minute mark I went up to the front desk to ask about the status of my car. As I am walking up to the desk, dude behind the desk sees me and runs outside to move my car into the garage!!!! Ummmm...I can SEE you!! So my car had just been sitting in the lot for 90 minutes. REALLY?? Never. Ever. Again. Heed the warnings of previous reviews. Go to Pep Boys at your own risk! read more

The most horrible experience I've had a repair shop to date. Waited for 2 hours for a employee to come over and tell me that my car had yet to be inspected. I came in with ample time to spare and waited for close to 4-hours before even having my brakes worked on. Once they checked it out, the inexperienced cashier lady explained to me how much my car would cost and the problems which totaled to near $1,500. I later googled the parts that needed replacement and found they totaled $200. Accounting for labor, I'm flabbergasted at how the residual costs were calculated. She then later suggested that my well maintained vehicle was too dangerous to drive although the brake light maintenance icon disappeared from my dashboard. I will try another shop tomorrow, and am positive that the results will be different. All-in-all, I will not be returning and owe Pep Boys to wasting away my day!! read more

This place is a shit show. I came in for an oil change and I had to wait FOREVER because there were other customers getting things done to their car. That's fine. What bothered me was that the service writer ( I believe his name is Adrian ) was working really hard to calm the other customers down and to get them in and out. The entire time, his manager (Benure Dixon) was just sitting down on his phone!!!! There are customers that need help and all he cared about was texting ( or maybe Pokemon). Giving them 2 stars because they didn't charge me fully in the end but I made a 9am appointment for a high mileage oil change. As said on their website it's a 30 minute guarantee oil change with an appointment. I picked this one because my car has a lot of miles and it comes with a complimentary inspection, brake light, head lights check, tire pressure check plus rotating and filter checks. I planned on traveling that weekend so I wanted to make sure my car was good to take the long travel. I was there until 11am and the entire time I made sure to make myself visible to thhe front desk so they knew I had been waiting for 2 hours! Only 1 time after an hour did the guy who checked me in tell me it should be done soon. I started wondering around the store and reading signs. I came across one that showed price matching, read it. Stayed they will price match if it's within the local area. They came back and said I needed a new air filter at 28.00. Okay fine go ahead. I then looked on auto zone, found 2 air filters that would fit my vehicle. One was $17 an another was $23.00. Car is done, time to check out. My bill is $86.00! For a 29.99 oil change and a 28.00 air filter?! They had also charges me for the managers special, which was never talked about. I brought up how long I've been waiting and I asked about price matching the air filter from autozone. The employee told me they don't price match and when I said there was a sign that showed it they ignored me and told me just to pay $28.00 for the air filter only. Thank goodness I didn't have anywhere to be during that time but for the customer that is in a time crunch and needs their vehicle to be done within 30 minutes would have been extremely late. Came here because they are really the only mechanic open until 9. I came here on Monday and there was no wait. There was also no one there because it was 8:15 so I'm glad they still took me. I read the reviews prior to coming so I was expecting the worst. 45 minutes later my oil change and inspection was done, not too crazy. They mentioned something about my brakes in typical Pep Boys fashion but I politely declined because I'd like to get a second opinion. I would recommend coming during their slow hours like late at night on a weekday or early in the morning on a weekday. I brought my car for a check-up they said 50$ when I came back to pick up my car it was left unlocked in there parking lot and all the " "mechanics" left so there was no way for me to get my car back lucky someone else in pep boys was leaving they jacked the price up to $100 just for a diagnostic also, after an hour of talking and calling the store manager I finally got my car back but a soon as I pulled off now my brakes are working I guess they were planning on charging me for messing up my brakes which worked when I dropped it off. I needed someone to install my headlight at 7pm on a cold Friday night, and Pep Boys was there to the rescue! I had my own headlight but couldn't install it myself. I walked right in, went in line at the service center, and the gentleman at the desk came outside with my right away and popped it in for me! Had my daughter bring her Honda Accord to Baldwin store because she was told by Good Year that she needed to replace her front tires and quoted her a ridiculous $$.So I called Pep store spoke with two people and finally service/store manager he quoted me a very reasonable price with 3 tires 4th being free. Daughter couldn t find wheel locks major problem spoke to manager offered to remove if we bought four tires from Pep , gladly accepted , tires replaced balanced aligned , new locks - fast and efficient - good to go ! I dropped my car off at 8:30am for an oil change and was told it will be 45mins (we will call you). When I returned at 9:45am ( by the way no phone call at 9:15) to be told my car is next and the excuse was one of the service areas is not working.This shit is ridiculous! Tell the customer it will be about 45mins to an hour, is better than saying 45mins and when your not done within 45mins you have to invent an excuse as to why! Some bullshit! Sexist store manager! Ladies beware! I went to this Pep Boys on a Monday because my front driver side tire was low. I was told after waiting an hour there was nothing wrong with the front driver side tire the issue was a back tire that had been previously plugged by Pep Boys. I was pretty sure it was the front tire, but hey they are the professionals so I trusted them and replaced the back tire that they suggested. Two days later my front tire is almost flat. When I brought it back to Pep Boys I told them I was not only concerned that they didn't find the issue in the front tire in the first place which is what I went there for but they charged me for a brand new tire "because that was the issue." I was told that the reason was that the plug in the back tire was done incorrectly. Of course they're the ones who plugged it. I asked to speak to the manager. He gave me several rounds of double talk I got frustrated and slammed my hand on the counter. While not my finest moment, I wasn't yelling or being rude, I felt like I was getting the run around. I was told that if I was going to be "emotional" he was going to walk away. Every woman knows that that is some sexiest bullpoop. I calmed down but they continued their rude and demeaning behavior. They resealed my front tire even though they didn't think that was the issue and then had the audacity to try to charge me for it. I refused to pay but asked for a copy of the paperwork to show what service they provided so when I inevitably this happens again I can show a real mechanic. They tried to charge me $10 for the receipt. SEXIST MANAGER. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

I have 2 boys who just started driving about a year ago but knew nothing about cars only want to take their cars to pep boys in Baldwin for service but I have my own Mechanic who I have gone to for the pass 15 years so I decided to go to pep boys with my son to see what make them like this place . I was surprised when I walk in Abdul the service manager knew my son by his name and while the car was in the shop he took my son and show him a few things that will need to be addressed soon and explain to him the functions that was the most amazing experience I have ever had at a mechanic shop the knowledge that he sharing with my sons is why they keep coming back to pep boys this is my new place and I love it Abdul is a great guy try this location. read more

I went to Pep Boys because my regular mechanic was unavailable. I needed an oil change and a wheel alignment. I asked for a semi-synthetic oil change as that was what the dealer had been doing, along with the guy I used regularly. First I was told they could not do that for my car. I said, I have been getting semi-synthetic for 3 years (I have a 2014 Corolla). He looked it up and found he could do it, but they didn't have the oil. Tried to talk me out of an alignment. I didnt care at this point. Just change the oil. After 1.5 hrs, I am called to the counter. My oil change will be $20 less because... I need tires. I say no, I just got tires less than 6 months ago. Then he starts going on about the belts in my tires shifting bc of how I drive. I reiterate that I do not need tires. The tread is perfect. So, I guess because I am a female, he figures he can try to get something over on me and I wasn't falling for the tires. So he says oh and you need shocks. Should have seen his face when I said I dont need shocks and he says yes you... I say no, My car has struts not shocks AND they were also just replaced. No respect and tried to make me spend an extra $600 ish on things if I wasnt knowledgable about I probably would have paid. read more

THEY KEYED MY CAR. DISGUSTING. I brought my car in on Father's Day to have my brakes checked. When I was told I needed new brakes, drums, and rotors (after only 45,000 miles) which would have cost me $775.00, I politely declined to get any work done. I paid $16.28 for the brake check and left. I drove directly to my local gas station and noticed that there was a long scratch and dent across my car. This damage was done to my car at the Pepboys location in Baldwin, New York. I know this to be true because I checked my car for any additional items I might need while at Pepboys (Wiper blades, tires . . .) Honestly I'm not somebody who cares too much about my car's appearance but I emailed them just to document it in case there was a pattern. I never expected Pepboys would do anything about it. A call center representative replied right away apologizing and saying he would forward my complaint to Pepboys. The guy told me he doesn't work for Pepboys, only the company that handles customer service for Pepboys. A few weeks went by and nobody got back to me. When I emailed the guy again, he said he would contact the regional manager. Again nothing. He then said he was contacting 'upper management'. That was three weeks ago and nobody's contacted me. Either he was just putting me off until I just gave up, or the actual managers from Pepboys just didn't bother. Either way, it's pretty bad customer service. I can't really do anything about it, but I'm happy to let others here know about it. If it leads to one customer deciding to pass on this location, as they DEFINETLY should, then I'm a happy man. read more

The absolute worst place. If you're thinking about going to this place-- please find another place that actually knows what they're doing! Went there because my check engine light was on. I don't have a mechanic and since I'm a female I felt local shops would try to rip me off but not a chain like pep boys. I made an appointment to bring my car in at 10 am. The woman at the desk said she would call when they're done doing the diagnostic. I asked how long, she said about 1-2 hours. They never called me. So I finally called around 1:30 and she told me what the problem was-- everything adding up to around $350. I told her I couldn't have the work done that day because I had things to do. They charged $50 for the check engine diagnostic. I went a couple of days later to have my car fixed. The same woman said she spoke to her manager and $50 would be taken off from my bill. Dropped my car off at 10 and I get a phone call at 4pm saying it's actually going to cost more. I ask how much and the same woman I've been dealing with, tells me 425. I tell her fine, I just want the work to get done. Finally I get a phone call at 7 saying my car is ready. I mention the $50 being taken off the bill to one of the guys upfront. He said there's nothing taken off the bill then he tells me the bill is $640! I then lost my cool and proceeded to rant about that not being the price I was given and there was absolutely no way I was paying $640! That's $200 more than the price I was given. The manager then came over, reduced the bill to $428 and I didn't mention anything about the $50 being taken off. I just wanted to get the hell out of there. Long story long, don't go there if you can help it! Customer service is absolutely terrible-- it's like the free health clinic for cars! read more

Went to this location to get work done to my vehicle to only get bamboozled. Received diagnostics but they didnt give me a print out. The manger of the service location explained to me what i should get done and gave me a price. I agreed and the work was done and payment exchanged. When i got into the vehicle the check engine light was off so i was happy and the inspection of the vehilce was done. but after driving around it came back on. So my husband went back to the same location and set a time for me to bring the vehicle back. Thursday morning i went back, they reviewed the vehicle again and two more sensors came up. The emoloyee i was speaking to was rude and could not explain what was wrong with the car. He tried to tell me what happened the first time i brought the car in but i didnt speak too him the frist time. So i explained that the diagnostics was done I asked why it didnt come up when the diagnistics was done before? He stated that those sensors came up i said no it didnt bec it wasnt brought to my attention that day. I asked why cant i see the diagnostic report? They basically said they dont keep a record and that its not there policy to give the report to the customer. Wow its 2019 and they dont have a record of the report they printed up through computer. So i asked to speak to the manger Ok so now i have two other sensors and an additional $600 worth of work. Really. It will not be done by this location. The car still idles and now theres a smell of fumes when im driving the vehicle. It seems to be worst then when i brought it in. Seems to me that they didnt do anything to the car. AVOID AT ALL COST! I WOULD LEAVE NO STARS IF I COULD REMOVE THE ONE! It's fine for buying parts but do not bring your vehicle in for service.Took my car for an inspection and it failed. The guy wrote down a long list of things that needed to be fixed, mind you my car is brand new only 2 1/2 years old. When I told him I needed to review everything thoroughly first and he gave me my receipt there were only two things that needed to be fixed which was a break light and back break pads. The price went from around $1000 to just $224.00. I asked the kid what happened and he said that's all I needed fixed, oh and he hand wrote rotors on the receipt snd said it was part of the breaks and he clarified that the price was $224.00. When I asked about the other stuff he said it was optional like my tires needed to be replaced (and he is infact correct) but I don't need them changed right now in order to pass inspection & he admitted to it. Once I came back an hour later to have them fix my breaks and light he then racked on another $150.00 for the rotors. Ummm why didn't he tell me that before??? Very sketchy. Took my car to another place and sure enough my back light and break pads needed replacing and my rotors were fine, cost me $175.00. My car now passed inspection oh and Pep Boys also broke all my screws bc who ever took my tires off jammed the screws incorrectly the mechanic said who ever worked on my car was inexperienced. I will never use them again. Lesson learned. read more

This place is the worst. They really have know idea what they are doing. We get a run of the mill tune-up they change the spark plugs and and ever since each week the "check engine" light goes on and a new coil needs to be replaced (mind you there was nothing wrong with the truck before). It is clear that the spark plugs or the installation of them are causing the coils to burn out. So after being ridiculously frustrated with the back and forth we suggest that they and not us pay for the coils or at least for the labor. They tell us they will pay for one but that they will not pay for the rest. So my tune up is going to cost and additional $300!!!!!!! But I will say that I should have learned my lesson as previously it took them 3 times replacing a starter before they got it right. Lesson learned now!! I am not sure anyone that works there is an actual mechanic! read more

I read Yelp reviews often, but rarely if ever have written one. But this time I just couldn't resist. If only there was a negative star option. I made an appointment online for 8:00. When I arrived, the disgruntled gentleman at the service counter said the online reservation system is not working. I needed new front brakes, pads, calipers, and rotors, I knew this going in. I've had this job done many times and never cost more than $250, the only reason I went to pep boys is because my regular mechanic couldn't take me that day. After 2 hours, he tells me its going to be $750+.... I should have known better than to take it here in the first place, but I figured I was in a pinch for time so I was willing to pay a little more than the usual price. I obviously declined to have the work done there, but they still generously charged me 16 bucks for the "inspection." While I was waiting I also had to listen to the two service counter employees arguing with each other about previous mistakes that were made to other customers cars/ invoices. This place is such a joke, unprofessional and unreasonable. I will NEVER come back to pep boys for anything, not an oil change, not a part, not tires, nothing! I get that parts need to be marked up etc... but what an outrageous estimate. read more

I received awful customer service. Unfriendly Manager. They sold me what seemed to be a used broken Bosch battery that began giving me problems less than 3 months later. I had to have my car jumped three times in one week. Finally received a different battery after being told that the battery was probably broken by me after it was installed. Really? How?. I had to wait almost 4 hours for the new battery to be retrieved from a different store and then installed. They did not even clean the battery terminals or anything else. The apology she finally gave at the end of the visit was not even sincere. I will not visit this location again. I was very disappointed with my overall visit. read more

At least three different occasions I was told something that was unfounded in Truth that they told me like I knew nothing about cars.My last experience (and I do mean last)was a three-hour wait for an oil change.
