I requested an oil change and tire rotation. Within 15 minutes they told me I need rear brakes and brake fluid drain and replacement at a cost of approx $700. I told them no thank you but they could proceed with requested service. I definitely got the impression that they don't like dealing with women as the tone was very condescending. When the car was ready they told me that the tire rotation could not be done because the lug nuts were too tight and were on wrong and they would need to replace all of them. I told them that they were the last ones to do tire rotation and I had the receipt in the car. They told me the lug nuts tighten as you drive. I questioned this and got a nasty attitude back. . I also asked them how they checked the brakes without even removing the tire and they said they could see through the wheel. I feel like this was an attempt to jack up the price. I had the tires rotated the next day at Costco and they said there was no problem with the lug nuts. I also had the brakes checked by a real mechanic and they do not need replacement. Also while waiting in the customer seating area I was subjected to listening to their conversations at the desk which included cursing, sexist comments and general conversation that is not appropriate for a workplace, especially next to the customer waiting area. While I'm almost always reluctant to rate a business poorly, some places make it easy for me to do so. From a customer service perspective, this Pep Boys location has failed time and time again over the years. I'll skip past the details of all the times I had to wait excruciatingly long hours for routine oil changes. I'll even avoid mentioning all of the apathetic employees that I've encountered over the years (starting now). I really just want to focus on my final three visits to this place. My last third-to-last visit to this Pep Boys was for an oil change and an inspection. I only had to wait an hour and a half in that depressing waiting area before I was summoned back to the service desk. I was told that the car failed its inspection due to the window tints being too dark. It was a hassle, but I got the tints removed at a nearby tinting place the following week. During my second-to-last visit, I found myself waiting in the same desolate waiting area for about 40 minutes, waiting to get the good news that my car had finally passed inspection. Much to my surprise, my car had once again failed inspection due to there being tint over the third brake light on the rear glass. Puzzled as to why that wasn't specified after the first inspection, I took my car back to the tinting place and had the rear glass tint taken care of as well. My final visit to this Pep Boys was, to my great relief, a success. Initially, I was told that the complex process of putting on a new inspection sticker would take an hour and a half, but when I asked if they could possibly do that colossal task a bit faster, they reduced the estimated time to 30 minutes. After paying the additional $10 to finally have to sticker slapped on, I left Pep Boys for the final time. The only reason I gave this place 2 stars instead of 1 star is because I didn't die of frustration, as I thought I would during my last visit. Small victories, I guess. read more

Do I really need to give this a star? My honey and I had gone to have his SUV inspected. My honey is very obsessed about taking care of his car and checks everything before he brings it in for inspection. After waiting 3 hours, they found $400 worth of repairs including $22.00 for a light bulb. He looked over the bill and all the parts were doubled in price, plus they charged a hefty price for installation. We were exhausted from all the waiting, and so he decided to just let them do the work, rather than have a 10 day permit and have to start all over again, plus the $37.50 again for re-inspection and our time and aggravation. Never, ever again will we bring our cars here. Please read this as having negative four stars. read more

I use a company owned car and I am responsible to maintain and take it in for maintenance and repairs. I am limited to where I can go because of the leasing company. So I have to take it to some big chain place that accepts their payments. Don't know how or why an Oil change takes 3 hours here. Or replacing a battery involves leaving it overnight. Or changing a tire is 4 hours. While waiting over an hour for an oil change I walked outside and around and saw the mechanics just standing around doing nothing. I went back inside and asked how long and the guy said "does it matter aren't you getting paid to sit here and wait" Thankfully my company changed the lease plan and we are able to take it to jiffy lube where it takes them 30 minutes or less. read more

That being said, Pep boys is a total SHIT SHOW. I had a leak in my tire so I made a service appointment online for 7:00 pm. Arrived early at 6:30 pm, was told they can't take the car yet. Fine. 7:30 pm...car still hasn't gone in. They finally take the car in around 7:40 pm. I'm looking at it through the service window just sitting there in the garage. It's now 8:00 pm. Patching a damaged tire should take all of 20 minutes. I've been here an hour and a half. (I should add that multiple people were waiting for their cars for hours, and no one's work seemed to be getting completed) I get the car back around 8:20 pm. 2 hours of my life gone forever...but hey, at least it's fixed right? Wake up the next morning...SAME TIRE IS GOING FLAT. I have to take the car back to Pep Boys at 8:00 AM, Service Manager finds the hole that they obviously MISSED the night before (because the tire is deflating at the same speed it was deflating at the previous day), but he tries to tell me it's A NEW LEAK. Wants to charge me AGAIN...C'MON MAN... **THE ONLY REASON THIS WASN'T A 1 STAR REVIEW (AND A CORPORATE COMPLAINT TO PEP BOYS) IS THAT THE SERVICE MANAGER ENDED UP DOING THE RIGHT THING. I've been here with many friends over the years, only because I'm a good friend, though I refuse to bring my car to this dump for any reason. If you want an oil change, especially if there is an advertised sale, you will still be overcharged even after you member card is rung in. If you have a nail in your tire, they will still try to tell you that you need to purchase 2 new tires, no matter what. They will recommend 3 other services that you are not interested in, no matter how firmly you tell them YOU ONLY NEED ONE THING. If you for some strange reason, decide to let them rotate your tires or perform some ridiculous service that you don't need just because they said it would be free, it will not be free and they will use any excuse to try and scam your money. The last time I was here, a friend needed a tire plugged due to a piece of glass. He told us to come back in 2 hours. Wow. We had no choice but to wait because the tire was leaking air badly. 3 hours later, they were still not done. The employee at the desk could not help us ring up and go home because he was trying to explain to a teenager and her 2 elderly relatives that they lost their car keys and thought perhaps the employee left their keys underneath the seat of someone else's car, whom had already left. Ok...I go there for a simple inspection. I'm in the waiting area for about 20 minutes and an associate comes in and asks me for my wheel lock key. I go to my car and get it for him. Another 20 or so minutes go by and I get my car back. When I get inside I noticed that my glove box was emptied and thrown about, my door cargo area was rummaged through, as well as my center console. Their answer, they were looking for my key....I was in the waiting room 10 feet away why not ask me initially???? Instead you go through my stuff? And leave the contents on my passenger seat? I brought my Car in for an oil change, I had a scheduled appointment. I never took my eyes off my car while it was being serviced. I watched the mechanic put it up on the lift. I saw him move the giant funnel and catch can for the old oil under my car. I saw him take out the oil pan plug and the old oil drain into the large catch can. I never once moved or took my eyes off my car. The mechanic then put the plug back in and lowered the car. He filled the car with a jug of oil pumped from a large drum. It turns out it was the wrong oil he put in. My car had 28,000. miles on it. They put in high mileage oil? I specified semi synthetic. I dont know what thats about? He then checked the level of the oil and closed the hood. But wait a second whats missing from this oil change? Exactly, he never removed the oil filter cartridge from under the hood where its located. I noticed right away and immediately told the person working at the counter. He went in the shop, spoke to the mechanic and then brought the manger into the shop area too. They all talked, and then the mechanic opened the hood & proceeded to remove the engine cover and located the oil filter cartridge cap. He then went and got a ratchet and removed the dirty filter cartridge from the canister. It was pitch black and well used. Now notice, if the car was not even started yet and already had a new filter in it; it would have shown up as a still new white or a yellow filter element. They never intended to change my filter, but I caught them, so they did reluctantly. I dont know how often they pull this stunt on people. But I was pissed. The manager, never spoke to me about it and the guy at the counter said he was unavailable. I also had discount coupons, I told the guy what I paid last time and he lied to me about the bills too. I have all my receipts in a file for the past 4 years using pepboys. Im deeply disappointed with this experience and most likely will not be a return customer any longer. Dont bother with using this place for service, try Jiffy Lube instead it may be the same price as Pepboys but aleast they will honestly change your oil and your oil filter. read more

Scheduled an appointment for oil change at 4pm and its now 5pm and my car is still sitting in the parking lot. I'm the only one sitting in the waiting room. The people at the front desk are useless! They keep asking me about my jeep when I have a Honda accord! Why take an appointment if you can't keep it? You make an appointment at jiffy lube and they come out in the parking lot and bring your car right in. Would have never made this appointment if I had known I'd be sitting here for an hour and still looking at my car in the parking lot. This place is a joke. A complete waste of my time. I usually take my car here explicitly for oil changes and have been wary to have other things done. Usually they get me in and out in about an hour or so, no problems. But recently I've needed an alignment, and with Pep Boys being the closest and convenient place to my house I said why not right? They haven't failed me yet despite being aware of all the terrible reviews and things everyone has told me about this location. Well here we go, so I take my car in there and say I need an alignment, it's about 5pm, forgot if it was Christian or Abdool but they told me it wouldn't even be until around 8pm until they could get me in. He told me come back in the morning, So I said fine I get it I'll come back. Come back the next morning at 9:15am, and it apparently can't be done until 1pm. At this point I'm kinda annoyed but can't be that upset since I never made an appointment. So I said you know what? I'll just make an appointment for TOMORROW then, 9am. Should be fool proof right?? Wrong. I get back there for the THRID TIME in four days expecting to get in and out with my appointment and this is when it really gets good. I walk in and get behind the only lady in line at the service desk. One advisor helps her out and I overhear she's getting two new tires and an alignment. They get her in no problem, then a new service guy who wasn't at the desk when she was being helped comes out. He tells me the alignment machine is down and cant get it done until this afternoon and he has no idea exactly how long. At this point I'm furious and am confused because the lady in front of me was clearly getting an alignment on her car, albeit the two new tires. Also, if someone has an appointment for an alignment and the alignment machine is down, wouldn't it be a smart thing to call the customer and tell them that so they don't come in? Completely unprofessional. It just sounds fishy to me, and I'm annoyed that I woke up early to get my car taken in even after two attempts of getting work done. I'm giving up on this place literally don't even go there for an oil change unless it's your last resort! The service advisor called and allegedly discovered all these other issues including the removal of the factory tint on the rear windows!!Just to note the car was previously checked by another mechanic who said the car just needed tires!!! I had a scheduled appointment for a Radiator Flush and Exchange and when I got there was told it would be 3 hrs wait. Fine! Two hours in I see and speak to the Manager who wasn't there at first and was the one that booked my appointment and he finds out the employee wrote the ticket as a coolant evaluation. 30 mins later I'm told they can't do the flush because the machine is broken plus they don't use it often.
